**continuation** I once heard a quite tricky question from a rap song which got me thinking, the rap artiste was like; 'Is 'bad' a bad word?' I know you can't answer that question directly. What does that have to do with my story? You may want to ask. Well, nothing actually, its just one of those random thoughts that pops into my head that I guess should get you thinking too. Now back to my story... *** Temperature was rising, yet the body felt cold; heart was pounding so fast and loud that I could hear the sound; entire body was shivering in absolute fear of the unknown. All of that and alot more were my exact predicament and how I felt as the armed men ordered us to lay flat on the floor. Before going to uniport to acquire both knowledge and most especially a degree, the only time I had seen a gun was when it was held by the police or any other member of the Nigerian armed forces. But having stayed in Port-Harcourt for barely a year, I had not only seen a gun but at several times been threatened with it pointed at my head. 'Was it a bad idea to school in uniport? So many bad things had already happened to me and more seemed to be coming my way, is this just fate or is someone from my village sitting at the front of a big pot, trying to bend take my destiny?!' I pondered totally lost in my thoughts. 'Infact if I survive this one, I'm leaving uniport and going to another school' I foolishly concluded, don't blame me for letting my mind wander so far, but when you are scared, its hard to think properly. I was brought back to planet Earth when the armed men made known thier sinister intention. 'Bring out your wallets and phones, remove your wrist watches and jewellery, infact remove everything of value and drop it in the nylon that is being passed around' One of the armed men said, he seemed to be the leader of the gang, as he had been doing all the talking so far. At hearing this order, I felt the urge to stand up and flog all of them. Asin they bought all those ammunition and raided a night club for what? Just to steal things as small as people's wrist watch. I was kindof happy because that's what they all wanted, but I was pissed at the same time because thier mate were robbing big banks and stealing millions and this foöls where here spoiling the fun I was having all because of my empty wallet and 'Aba made' gucci branded wrist watch. I've always said to myself; 'I won't be a robber and would never steal, but if am forced by forces that I beyond me to steal, then I would definitely steal 'big'. I'll simply rob the CBN' PS: CBN- Central Bank of Nigeria. Anyways, long story cut short, the armed robbers succeeded in ripping the entire occupants of the club off our valuables and then escaped. As usual and expected of our incompetent Police force, they came an hour after the thieves had long gone. We all went home after the police made us all to write a statement, which I knew won't help matters. What a long night indeed. *** With every sun comes a new day, a new beginning, a hope that things would be better today, than they were yesterday, but not for me. I had woken up unusually early the next morning even tho I had no morning lectures, atleast not till 9am. I looked at the wall clock in the room and the time was roughly 6:30am, what am I doing awake? I asked myself. Just as I was wondering, I got a text message from a not so weird number. It was one of those numbers that shows on your phone screen when one sends a bulk message via the internet. Wizzy of recent has been a good course rep as he now used out departmental dues to buy things for the department and ofcourse, send bulk messages to pass informations. The only problem with bulk messaging is that the messages don't deliver in immediately attimes. They can take as long as 10 hours or more before they reach the recipient. I clicked on the envelope icon on my phone screen to open the message and the contents shocked me as I was a victim of the the message not delivering on Time, it read; 'Great Management students, we would have an impromptu MGT 250.1 continuous assessment test tomorrow morning by 7am, please be on time as DR. D.C. Prosper said he won't handle late comers with mercy. Wizdom (Course rep)'. I looked at the wall clock and the time was around 6:45am. 'Nawa oh, Uniport and thier wahala' was all I could say. **continuation** 'Don't make a mountain out of a molehill' that's all my mind told me as the annoying MTN programmed female voice said the number I was trying to call was busy. So since I've always followed my mind and it had never failed me, I decided to follow my mind once again and just believe it was just a coincidence. Funny enough, it turned out to truly be a coincidence, because few minutes later, I got a call from Chidinma while Urch was still in the room making his call, I gave a sigh of relief and gave myself a mental knock for even thinking that Urch and Chidinma could go at my back and stab me, or so I thought. I picked the call and made the first statement in relief; 'Hi babes?' 'am cool sweedy, and you?' She replied. 'never been better' I replied. 'urmm.. Baby?' 'yea? Any p?' I inquired. 'Not really, I know I haven't been the best girlfriend of late and I just wanna apologise, its just that I'm scared of totally falling for you' 'Scared? Why?' I asked with an eyebrow raised. 'the last time I gave someone my all in all, he took me for granted, I don't want that to repeat itself' 'wow! But you of all people should know am different na, am quite offended that you saying such things' I replied. 'that's why I said I want to apologise, I'm going to let my heart take control from now on, no more games' 'No more game?' I asked. 'Yea, no more games' I looked at my wrist watch to check the time, I saw it was just evening, as the time was about 4:21pm. 'Can we hang out now? Its been a while you know?' I suggested. 'Yes, sure. Where do you have in mind?' 'Lets go watch a movie at genesis' I suggested, I had to make it special, since it was sorta like a reunion, 'that one at G.R.A?' 'yea, sure na. How many genesis cinema are in PH?' 'hmm, isn't it too late?' 'nope, its just 4:30 na, if you not comfortable with that you can bring up a suggestion' 'ermm, lets not go anywhere fancy at all, when last did you go clubbing?' 'ermm, my birthday I guess' 'You see, that was like a month ago na! Lets go clubing tonight, you can invite your roommates too' That sounded like a good idea, since I had long gotten over my fear for clubs and cultists so I agreed and we agreed I would pick her up by 11pm. I suggested the clubing idea to urch and Tayo and as expected, they both agreed, whatelse can you expect from two party freaks. We all played the JACKPOT game till later on in the evening. *** After much contemplating on what club to go to out of the many options we had in PH, we all agreed to go to 'Illusions Night club' at 'Orazi' since we had never been there. Tayo somehow got a ride from a friend of his, a 'Range-Rover sport', and after we took hours to freshen up an prepare, we started the journey to the club, we dropped by Chidinma lodge to pick her up. Sandra didn't agree to go, claiming she had a class test early the next morning, so we left her and the rest of us left. If there is one thing I've observed about Nigerian clubs bouncers, it that they are really rude and partial. *** I could remember when I was a broke äss nigga, and the day when I and some friends decided to go small night club in Ire Akare estate in Lagos state (name withheld) and after planning for a whole week, the D-day came and for reasons untold, we were bounced at the entrance. The fact that we were bounced wasn't what pained me, it was the stupîd request the bouncer made, he said; 'Make una show me the money we una wan use buy drinks and I go let una enter...' can you imagine? What concerns him with the money?!. Anyway that was quite a long time ago. *** As we arrived at the club and parked our borrowed Range Rover which we handled like it was ours right at the front of the club, we majestically bounced into the club without the bouncer looking at us two times. I smiled and a Yoruba phrase crossed my mind; 'Owo lon soro' simply translated to as 'Money Talking'. The club in itsself wasn't half bad, unlike other clubs I had been to which was mostly small and had little grounds to dance, Illusions was rather big and really spacious, we all looked at around and after admiring the club, we gave ourselves an approving nod. Urch Money! Was with us so we all headed to the V.I.P section as usual, I was already getting used to it as a matter of fact. Drinks were ordered and the main clubing started as we drank and at some point Chidinma who was fond of whispering in my ears, whispered; 'come and show me how good you are on the dance floor'. I knew it was going to be a fun and long night, little did I know that fate had a different plan in stock for me. TO BE CONTINUED |
