Hello my people. Been ages since i last saw myself online here. This Forum used to be home. I have decided to take out some time to say a few things about my experience thus far.

First is that my expectations were not cut short. They have been duly matched in terms of Education and Living.

Over here the professors believe not just in knowing but in doing. You will be exposed to lots of practical sessions. I remember during my first year in school back in Nigeria, the lecturer who taught us C Language back then would walk up and down the class dictating the programs and then the equivalent output. We never for one day saw what the compiler looked like. The reverse is the case here as the professors are ready to help you succeed. When you come here, you have to 'Unlearn' to learn if you really want to go far.

Living here has been seamless. Life is easy in Germany in the sense that you have virtually all you need to make it here. If internet and constant light are your problem, you have it running 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. You will find free wifi in some bus stations.

Student jobs are in Hamburg but this brings me to the best advice i will give anyone who wants to listen. I and Chinok have been lucky to find a very cool job we do only on Saturdays for a few hours but if you will listen, try by all means to learn the language. I have missed out on a handful of Jobs since i came here all because i have no good knowledge of German but na me n them next year. Another thing you will learn when you get here is that there is dignity in labour. No matter what you do to make a living, You are well respected.

I haven't looked the way of women but i know people who did and got in no time and some who are still on it. So i cant really talk much on that.

My city is very nice and welcoming as 60-70% or more of the people here speak English (but would refuse to speak most times). I had this experience when i was processing my resident permit. I spoke to the man in English but he responded in German. I told him that i dont speak German and he responded in a very clear and concise English saying 'I am sorry i cannot help you. Kindly go and get a translator'. I was shocked. Sounded like a programmed machine. Once again, try and learn the language.

Talking about resident permit, do well to print out your account statement before making withdrawals as you will be required to show you have living expenses for one year before your visa can be extended and Please try and extend the visa once you come in. I came here with 6 months visa but i had to go for extension because by the time it expires, i would have gone half way with the money in my blocked account. So after your Anmeldung, Resident permit should be the next thing on your mind. Just show them the statement of account you printed even though you must have made a few withdrawals because you have to pay accommodation and caution fees.

There are a lot of blacks in Hamburg. As a matter of fact, whenever i pass by HAUPTBAHNHOF i usually look out for Yellow buses(danfo) just to be sure i am not in Surulere. Occasionally when we pass ourselves, some will nod at me and i will reply with a nod of my own....and then we walk away wondering where the other party is from.

I have made some nigerian friends. Friends who came here about the same time with me.... Chinok(from home though), John, Surveyor, Othniel n so on and a lot of other senior colleagues. They were instrumental in helping me settle down.

You will most definitely not hear from me very often because of workload from school but when i can, i will definitely breeze in to intimate you guys on proceedings.

I remain ARMANIII of HAMBURG. I greet you all.

Politics / Re: Recession Worsens On Niger Delta Crisis, Despite Agric Rebounds - Thisdaylive by Chiznonso: 12:01pm On Nov 22, 2016
OLADD:
SUMMARY:

1. Contrary to the widely held belief, Niger Delta crisis is not the main contributory factor to the nation's recession since the oil sector only constitutes less than 15% of the GDP. The president and VP are wrong to always premise the economic woes on plummeting oil revenue.

2. Lopsided foreign exchange policy is substantially responsible for the lull in productive activities in the manufacturing, agriculture and other sectors of the economy which constitute the remaining 85% of the country's GDP. In other words, Buhari's economic policies are the main reasons for the recession.

3. Even if hostility in Niger Delta ceases and global oil price rebounds, it doesn't guaranty our speedy recovery from recession since our GDP growth is not mainly galvanised by oil revenue inflow.

U don't have the full picture, 15% ofNigeria's GDP is directly THE oil sector, while an additional 70% is indirectly affected by the oil sector because 70% of Nigeria's GDP is Consumer Spending , since Nigeria is a highly import dependent Economy , Nigeria as a whole rely heavily on oil exports (Oil and gas is 95% of our Exports) to finance it's imports since U can only use foreign and international tradable currencies ie Dollars to import, u have to export to earn that income. Foreign Investors are shying away from Nigeria's economy due to largely reduced Oil price and are wary of reduced Oil Production, if we had increased oil production during this oil price crash, investors would have been more confident to invest in our economy

There are plenty of positives here. The agric and other non-oil sectors have started yielding positive result.

Let Niger Delta continue with their bombings. We're in it together.

If anything, the region suffers most than any other part of the country.

It's not a rocket science and there is the common saying that "he who fetches firewood infected with ants invites lizards to his house".

The same way that the North East suffers the worst consequences of its support & harboring for Boko Haram is the same way the Niger Delta will suffer the worst consequences for the militancy. Already their governors are crying they're most affected by the bombings of oil facilities; such cries will increase by the time they can't even pay a dime any more.

No need to preach to a young man not to court leprosy if he's prepared and determined to live alone in the forgotten forest.

See Nigeria is @ the mercy of those Militants

The argument for electoral college is ridiculous.A republican voter in Wyoming is for times more powerful than a California voter.

Wyoming is about 600k in population with 3 electoral votes.

California is 38million in population with 55 electoral votes.

There's 1 electoral vote for every 200k votes in Wyoming.

There's 55 electoral vote for every 700k votes in California.

The idea that liberal voters have more voice because they live in largely populated cities is ridiculous because their votes doesn't count as long as the 3 electoral votes in Wyoming is 4 times more powerful than the 55 from California.

Electoral vote is the smartest style of Voting, I have ever seen in my Life, the reason why America is Great is because their Founding father's had a vision and made fewer mistakes, America is Great shun

Hey guys, greetings from Hamburg. Got here this week. its very cold and beautiful. Transportation network here is topnotch, lectures has been great too. settling down slowly. Learn Deutsch and don't be sacred to speak it helps a lot. Ask questions when you have to,else you will keep walking and meeting yourself at the same spot it can be confusing at first. If you're still coming this winter, get thick jackets temperature can be as low as -3 degrees (and I was told we ain't started yet). Make provision for accommodation so you won't be stranded. Also get someone who will pick you up when you arrive- its a different ball game here. Bring your naija food if you have to ( you need to see the look on the faces of my block mates when they saw me cooking my Ogbono soup and Garri yesternight - it was epic). its been interesting all the way.

If you have any issue with Deutsche Bank. I can be of help cos Alter wall (Db headquarter) is not too far from my place - Just PM me.
PS: I have missed three weeks lectures already and so I can only take few for now cos I have to catch up with classes. Am doing this because I know what we're facing in the hand of Deutsche Bank back in Naija.

Lemme stop here, Ich habe groß hunger.

See you all in Deutschland. Bis bald

They said they have been mandated by law to issue visa only by DB alert. They have, however, not sent me AM mail despite receiving my funding mail.
