Kayceenaz: Dear Butanep, your assertion that ''a woman that can't cook is irresponsible'' is too hasty! Your contention implies that ability to cook is a sufficient and necessary condition for the term 'responsible'. Thus once that peculiar capacity is absent in a woman, she becomes ''irresponsible.'' But is this really the case? Are there women out there that can cook but still fall short of expectations as seen in their rudeness, garrulousness, mannerlessness, provocative and indecent dressing habit, proficiency in lying and scheming, and what have you? If there is, would you still regard them as responsible nonetheless? These questions carry in them a succint indication that the term 'irresponsibility' comprises various elements, not just one (not knowing how to cook), that constitutes its meaning.

Moreso, if you argue for the fundamentality of the knowledge of cooking in women in that it is crucial for their being marriageable, then it follows that the end--getting married--makes knowing how to cook pertinent thus justifying its necessity. Thus once the end is no more, the means to it becomes redundant. The existence of reverend sisters in the society, who do not get married, renders the cooking necessity in women as non-mandatory. Even without experiencing the culinary skills of these reverend sisters, society still regard them as responsible. This goes to show that being responsible transcends expertise in cooking.

However, dear Butanep, your contention presupposes that if anyone wants to determine whether a woman is responsible or not, she should be asked whether she can cook. And if she says yes, then she should substantiate this claim by cooking a meal. But if she answers ''No'' ab initio or couldn't justify her claim, then it follows that she is irresponsible. How does that sound? Gibberish, isnt it? Suffice it to say that the statement that ''a woman that can't cook is irresponsible'' is rife with absurdity. I rest my case.

RomanceRe: Dating A Broke Guy(my Experience); Is It Worth It? by chlowi(f): 6:46am On Oct 01, 2014
I remember a thread similar to this years back by another Op, where I made a comment about sticking To a guy who has nothing But a hard worker, And we both work hard to earn and make it!!!

I was bashed by guys in that thread! You wanna Knw? They said I must be ugly for wanting to settle with a broke guy cheesy,

Now in that thread, my comment was my opinion, I did not just accept that the guy who is broke But with potentials deserved true love, I also accepted that i,the lady(that is if am the one in question) would also work hard to earn and support the little she could!!!

Money remains An essential. Ingredient. In any relationship, be it brother and sister or man and woman, and as such both parties wd have to support each other emotionally, financially etc and irrespective of whom it comes from, adds a spice to that relationship.

I have witnessed many situations where a lady sticks to a particular guy tru thin and just when it became thick he dumps her

I have also seen where. A man would go extra miles for his woman and when things become less rosy, the lady in questions cowers ...

that's life, however it comes we make due and The most of it and be better...

I understand the Op( altho not with the part her friends were mentioned)
I must give her credit most women would zoom off bfor it hits a year but she has stayed(bearing in mind all the negative vibes dt cmes with being broke) 3years and as a matter of fact would still stay investing time, money and wisdom (correct me if am wrong OP) common, let's give credit when due ! But. That aside, the whole essence Of the thread was to expose how it feels to be in a relationship with a broke guy!! Which she successfully did in a nutshell.

May God see. You both through!!! Keep praying for you both! And if u feel u can't stick any longer well he ain't your hubby yet!!!

demotivates a hardworking girl...PERIOD!... BtW, this is my opinion, I very much respect your view and opinion albeit.

3sha4lyf: Its he who wears the shoes that knows where it pinches...
if you are a lady and you're of the opinion that you shouldn't mind/depend on ur man's finances, welldone.
I can relate very well with the poster OlamiB. Even if you are a multi-billioniare duchess, there's this satisfaction as a woman if and only if you can boast TO YOUR SELF that at least, the lingerie youre wearing today was given to you by your partner.
So if a man is broke, if thats what it is, is not healthy for a relationship...

I call money a "hygiene factor" (from Herzeberg's motivation theory) in relationships, be it dating or marriage. If money is present, it doesn't mean the relationship wont crash, but if there's no money, that relationship will struggle to survive. Even a broke guy knows he's not happy; hes only hopeful that things will change pretty soon. And if he cant handle the effect of "brokage", several factors can creep in, even being unnecessarily possessive over the (only) girl who can tolerate his weak pockets even if she has hers.

Back in the days, my big uncle told us that its the poor boyfriends that yell at you, ask you questions like "where'r r u coming from"?, "Who's calling you?" "who gave you that money? etc, yet they be the ones to come to your room, open ur fridge and drink those exotic can drinks you stuffed in there, but u bear it all for love.

My dear poster, one deep suggestion is that as long as you see some harness-able potentials in him, let the love you have for him encourage you to support him get there--->the promised land.

For others, please dont bash yet until you've taken the challenge to date a broke guy while you are "hardworking" and "ok". I bet you wont even be able to buy yourself that lovely average wrtistwatch you've always craved when you know your guy hasnt even got a wristwatch. You cant even spend your own money openly near him cos youre just inviting palaver for yourself (Guys you know this very well).

Like i said, please only bash if you have survived, and STILL surviving in a relationship with a broke guy.

tx

RomanceRe: On Nigerian Women And (lack Of) Future Ambition by chlowi(f): 12:25am On Sep 23, 2014
Onegai: Try telling this to even men of nowadays.

I got a job last year (very prestigious if not big on salary, could make my career) that took me out of Lagos for less than 2 months. My bf started avoiding my calls and broke up with me on the phone after, saying "oh I can't give you what you want, you were gone, I felt neglected, blah blah". I hissed (okay I pretended to be upset to make him feel guilty grin ) and moved on.

Next guy who came toasting, I was working long hours on and off in Lagos, maybe 2-3 days a week, other days I'd be home. He started complainig about "so is this how it will be after marriage??" We were not even dating sef.

Current bobo, I'm slowly training him to leave me over weekends grin to give me space, he's not too happy.

Everyone asks women "when are you getting married?" One relative declared to me (when I told her about something I had achieved) "the crown on a woman's head is Marriage".

When Society and Nigerian men expect you as a woman to be constantly available at their beck-and-call, you're not going to be motivated to achieve much.

You cannot have it all. Every hour you spend worrying about your business is an hour away from your loved ones, every hour you spend with your loved ones is an hour away from making money. What you can do is achieve a balance, maybe 60-40 in whatever way you choose.
Most realistic response so far!!! Makes better sense it's from a lady's point of view!!!

@op nice post!!! But I think Nigerian women r gradually changing, look around you, essp. The active workforce, u can see that the number of women who work is rapidly competing with their male counterparts, business world not excluded. I work with a government organization, and you need to see my boss, she is at her late 50(s) am yet to see a man who works as hard as that woman! Yet still a wife and forever a mum!!!
