Police in Kano State have arrested one Nura Hamza, who claimed to be a 700-year-old spirit. Hamza was arrested after he allegedly duped a man of N800,000. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, told reporters on Wednesday in Kano that the suspect, who resides at Kurnar Asabe quarters, was arrested on August 23, following complaint from one of his victims. According to him, the suspect used his mobile phone to call the complainant several times claiming to be a spirit aged 700 years. He said, “He (the suspect) directed the complainant to source money and take it to a nearby bush for spiritual duties. “When his compound was searched, the following exhibits recovered. Seven pieces of fake $100, three bundles of cut-to-size papers with pretext to be $100, four MTN SIM certificates, three motorcycles, generator and one mobile phone.” Idris said after the complainant had deposited N800,000 as directed by the suspect, he decided to inform his relatives. The CP said, “This culminated in the arrest of the suspect after luring him to the destination.” The commissioner also said the command had arrested 150 suspected criminals and smashed five robbery gangs within the last two weeks. www.punchng.com/news/police-arrest-700-year-old-spirit-for-fraud |

If in any case you dont want a job, just enrole in any short self developing educational programme that would not overlap with the time you are going for your service.. |

This I believe is a step towards a right direction. If sincerity and stiffness can be allowed, we will see some good improvements. But jonathan still needs to show us further how committed he is, and restore our former love for him. |

Indications have emerged that President Goodluck Jonathan is set to sack some of his ministers by January next year, following the Performance Contract signed by the ministers before the commencement of last Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. Sources close to the ministers told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that some of the ministers who have had the hunch of the impending cabinet shakeup trailing the introduction of the performance bond introduced by the President, in which all the ministers have since the first quota of this year made themselves available to the Presidential Villa to give account of their stewardship, were not behaving as if things are the way they used to be. Jonathan had told the ministers out-rightly that their minimum target in terms of performance in his administration was 70 per cent and above. In his remarks at the signing of the Performance Contract ceremony with all the ministers present before commencement of the FEC meeting, he warned them to avoid the temptation of leaving their jobs in the hands of Permanent Secretaries and other top directors of their ministries. However, a dependable source close to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, who is also the Chief Examiner of the President’s assessment test of the ministers, told our correspondent on condition of anonymity that from the body language at the Presidential Villa, “it appears some of the minsters already know that their jobs are in the pipeline”. “The Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy might not want to make it seem as if the honourable ministers are undergoing assessment, but the truth remains that the President wants to know who to sack for non-performance in a manner that is transparent without any political sentiments attached. Recall that in past regimes, lazy ministers, who had little or nothing to offer, had been shown the way out in what appeared to be cabinet reshuffle. “But President Jonathan feels that in the present administration, retaining of political offices by his appointees must be based on merit and not political manoeuvrings, orchestrated by god-fatherism.” But dispelling this position, presidential spokesman, Dr. Abati, said the signing of the Performance Contract is a further codification of a process that has been in existence. “Now, a lot of people have been saying maybe the President is doing this because he wants to sack his ministers and all that. No. That was why he said that look, “it is not to witch-hunt or indict anybody. It is just to remind everyone why we are here. Of course you know that the consequential effect is that, having signed the performance contract, if you don’t deliver, if you don’t perform, then of course, it means that you are not part of the team. You are not part of the vision of Mr. President. I think it is a trash point” he stated. “These are steps taken by President Jonathan for which he must be commended. So, the whole emphasis is to send a signal, both to Nigerians and every player within government at all levels, that the mandate that Nigerians have given to everyone in government is to deliver, and that President Jonathan is here to serve Nigerians, and the best way to serve Nigerians is to deliver; it is to perform. “The first thing that should be noted is that this is the first time in Nigerian history that a sitting president would ask his ministers to sign a Performance Contract. http://www.247nigerianewsupdate.com/jonathan-to-sack-non-performing-ministers-in-january-2013/
