There is also a Robson-Kanu in the Irish national team. I don't think it has anything to do with the abolished slave trade. Although there are several part of Brazil where we still have enclaves of ex-Nigerian (mostly Yoruba) slaves. But one thing about slave trade, the slaves hardly keep their original native African names as the new owners forced foreign names on them. So u will hardly see a slave lineage that has their original African surname preserved to this mordern time.

That Kanu of Brazil or Sierra Leone are not likely related to Nigerian origin. They most likely do not even have the same meaning. Just different words or meaningd with same pronunciation. I have seen similar words in Igbo and Yoruba with same or similar spellings but completely different meanings.

When I talked about slave trade, I meant the Kanu's of Freetown (Sierra Leone), not the ones in Brazil. The Brazilians are clearly due to Kanu's heroics in Atlanta 96 just like the one below; Does the boy's physique wring a bell?

This question goes to the history lovers in here. The name "Kanu" is gradually becoming a household name in Brazil(one Kanu even plays for Kortrij in the Belgian first division) due to Nwankwo's heroics in Atlanta 96, now, what inspired same name in Sierra Leone? I av come across some Kanus from Freetown that I mistook for Nigerians. Does it have anything to do with the defunct slave trade?

His ilks are Dwight Gayle, Ruddy Gestede, Lambert, Tammy Abraham etc. These are tier 2 strikers who only show some flashes in the lower divisions to dim off when the stake is raised a whit higher. Onuachu, Odey, Osimhen, Eduok all play in better leagues and have all been delivering, they deserve their chances ahead of the so called tested Ighalo that always chokes to death at the tourneys. It will be ultra delusional to expect ineffectual Ighalo to deliver in the AFCON 2019. Like I always say, his showing against Libya is nothing buh a pig with lipsticks who is sure gonna go back to his usual self.

A battering ram like Emenike came from nowhere to carry the Eagles on his shoulders, gave us an Afcon ticket, won the Afcon for us, gave us a world cup ticket and served Osaze, on a platter the decisive goal that took us to the knockout Stages. Today, we are stuck with a certain misfiring guy in Ighalo who has been a mess in all the tourneys he has repped Nigeria, from the youth teams to the senior teams.

These guys would do better, if given the opportunities Ighalo has enjoyed;

Solomon Okoronkwo was part of the Eguavoen's boys to the 2003 U17 WC in Norway. That class had Mikel Obi, Chinedu Ogbuke, Ezekiel Bala, Isaac Promise, Emmanuel Sarki amongst others.Solomon's performance at that U17 level earned him a look in by some foreign clubs. We was with Gabros International FC until 2005 when he went to Hertha Berlin. Solomon Okoronkwo was part of the Siasia's 2005 U20 but not a starter. John Owoeri and David Abuo were the first team wingers.
Just like most other former youth internationals Solomon's career did not progress well. Solomon was again also part of Siasia's Olympics team. Whether he merited it or not is not an issue here. But he was a confirmed Siasia's boy. When Siasia was made coach in 2011, again he invited Solomon Okoronkwo, Chibuzor Okonkwo and Isaac Promise (3 of His boys). This led to an outcry by the press. This trio were not national team materials and so the outcry was justifiable.

Solomon was Talented no doubt. But his career did not progress well and he should remain grateful to Siasia for the continued faith in him which made him feature for Nigeria at all the age grade levels: U17, U20, U23 and Super Eagles.

Shuaibu Amodu handed Solo his first senior national team call up, not Sia1. This was in 2008 when he was balling for Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga.

Sia1 didnt really help him, Solo was super talented and Sia1 explored it. His talent took him to the height he attained, not Sia1. He made the youth teams on merit and he delivered each time he was there. The only time Sia1 invited him bkus he was his boy, the media went berserk. Then Solo was with Aelsund of Norway.

There are some shits that went down, which I wouldn't wanna discuss here, buh, trust me, Solo would have been a bigger player. He had the talent and was always a delight to watch.
