Some of our players are beginning to come into their own too. Last season Ndidi and Iheanacho's contributions helped Leicester win the English FA Cup, Chukwueze contributed to Villarreal winning the Europa league, Onuachu helped his club win the Belgium cup, Aribo and Balogun helped Rangers win the Scottish premier league so it's not as if our players are complete bums. They know what it is to win a trophy too. Agreed reputations do not play on the field but when you have better talent more often than not you will prevail. Respect to the Egyptians but they are not the team that dominated Africa in the mid to late 2000s. They will give us a game no doubt but I'm optimistic we can handle them. If they do defeat us when we meet which is a possibility it won't be because they have superior talent to us now speaking generally. Barryseal: |
To be fair both teams have come a fair way since then. The SE were relatively not as stacked as we are now even at that we almost beat them that day if not for poor finishing and loss on concentration when it mattered most. Nowadays we have a better strength in depth in our attack, midfield not perfect but ok, defense decent and more experienced, goalkeeper relatively stable. Egypt is still rebuilding to the strength of their 2010s squad and they are quite heavily reliant on Salah. The advantage they will have is that most of them play domestically in their league so they should be able to blend better. Don't get me wrong I'm not implying that facing them will be easy but I'm reasonably confident that based on the current quality of players in the SE we should be able to defeat the Egyptians if we play to our full potential. Barryseal: |
I thought Bordeaux was broke charlesemeka85: |
andrew444:yep it's decent but it won't easy |
safarigirl:Egypt is basically pass to Salah and inshalah ![]() but seriously speaking we have the tools to beat them but we absolutely have to bring our A game because they will surely play as a team because most of their players play in the domestic League and their clubs a pretty solid and very capable of defeating any African country on their day. |
I wonder o then some random official will then give a 20-25 minute speech nobody gives a damn about. Plus they should tone down the musical/cultural performances. If we want to watch traditional dances we know were to go watch them definitely not at draws for a football tournament. Ppogbae: |
Cool Troost-Ekong interview with club teammate Ben Foster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYEoa7wbkxg |
Nice great way to win the fans over. Have to say I'm quite surprised clubs having been falling over themselves to sign Onuachu. To score 30+ goals in a decent league like the one in Belgium is no joke. Good that Dessers is taking his playing time seriously and seeking options. TheLoneCitizen: |
I guess I should have said scared not to face any opponent. Of course we should be cautious with any team we face. Even Man City will be cautious all the time even if facing Katsina united. I just don't want us to go into the tournament with any inferiority complete at the end of the day to be the best you have to beat the best. andrew444: |
Looking forward to the draw don't have any particular preferences regarding which team we should face. With the level of talent we currently have at our disposal we shouldn't be wary of facing any opponent. |
Might be the biggest indication that Onuachu is moving charlesemeka85: |
Big fan yes but not number one. I remember him arguing with me against his own guy based on present stats on who is better between Saka and Simon. andrew444: |
Serious respect to the Nigerian military for restricting Boko haram to their current enclaves seeing what has unfolded in Afghanistan should tell us how everything could have seriously unraveled if not for the determination of our brave men and women of the Nigerian armed forces. A lot of people are worried about the ripple effects the victory of the taliban will have on the fight against terrorists/jihadists especially in Nigeria. Apart from the moral boost it will give to ISWAP I think the Nigerian state's situation still defers from that of the Afghans. Unlike the locals in Afghanistan I don't think boko haram enjoys the support like that from the populace in Borno, Yobe or Adamawa. The atrocities they have and continuing to commit in the NE will never get them that level of support they first enjoyed when they emerged. Definitely not taliban levels of support. I think the current strategies being deployed of intense military bombardment and the caring reconciliatory approach of Gov Zulum has really helped and will optimistically bring this war to an end soon. That however doesn't mean we shouldn't be on our guard remember how just like that around 2013/2014 boko haram controlled almost the entire NE bombing parts of Nigeria with impunity. We must do everything so that doesn't repeat itself again. |
Man seeing the Taliban easily seize cache load of weapons and aircraft the Nigerian government had to cough out dollars with blood to purchase just has me all ![]() |
They were both related to extremely hot weather but nevertheless he needs a complete medical checkup. jihday: |
Thank God Samuel Kalu's collapse wasn't more serious than feared wish him the best and quickest recovery. Hope he gets thoroughly checked to make sure he doesn't have any underline condition because two collapses in 2 years is not funny. Big ups to the Bordeaux and Marseille players for taking care and shielding him before medical help arrived. |
obaaderemi:my brother I was wondering before where all his shalaye was headed ![]() |
solonnachi:great headache to have |
same here. KC should be able to do something this week. maidaboi: |
Best scenario Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone (them again ), Malawi Worst Nigeria, Ghana (because of the rivalry), Zimbabwe, Sudan Danielnino00: |
hmmm and these are their stronger players Eizzy003: |
Same as me I thought the blues lacked a cutting edge upfront but the Lukaku signing has changed all that. Yes Liverpool is always dangerous but they haven't strengthened enough for me. Midfield is slightly weaker with the departure of Wijlnaldum. Attack still relying on the same trio of Mane, Salah, Firminho which the bigger teams have started to figure out. Personally I think they have peaked and diminishing returns is setting in albeit slowly. If Harry Kane still somehow ends up at City before the transfer window closes then I would use my full chest to predict City retaining the EPL. andrew444: |
Seems the MKO Abiola pitch is almost ready https://www.nairaland.com/6700395/mko-abiola-stadium-abuja-ready |
Terem Moffi in action today at the principality while Onyeka should be taking his premier league bow can't wait ![]() Definitely one of The Manchester teams or Chelsea is winning the league. Liverpool look slightly weaker. Leicester could surprise if one of the big 4 messes up. I predict Newcastle, Burnley, Brighton, Watford, Norwich and maybe Southampton to be involved in a relegation scrap |
Yeah forgot about Mexico. I think the cumulative results from previous matches would have affected our ranking reason why I added Sierra Leone jihday: |
Yep inactivity, results against Sierra Leone and Cameroon probably contributed. Ppogbae: |
True but for whatever it's worth you still respect the feelings of club supporters sometimes they can be irrational and make or mar your time at the club. One simple misstep on the pitch they might start questioning his commitment to the club talking about his hair color and flashy lifestyle. Might sound silly but you know how some critics can be. Even though Pogba scored twice and don't think that has still exactly made him the darling of fans at old trafford. Plus it's not the act of dyeing his hair that is the issue but choice of color. We may not be partisan like that but you know how crazy European fans can get. Anyway this is still conjecture. Wishing Henry all the best. BascoVanVeli: |
Maybe calling Henry's actions stupid was a bit harsh but Onyekuru should have done research on the club he is joining and modify his behavior accordingly. First impressions matter a lot. To you and me dyeing your hair color is no big deal but to Olympiacos fans it might be more serious. Remember how Man U fans some seasons back gave Pogba grief for changing his hair color blue before a derby game against Man City so it's not unheard off. Henry should just make sure his football does the talking for him positively. BascoVanVeli: |
Honestly you have said it all. I like Nwakali but he's yet to do anything extraordinary that has warranted the hype he gets on this thread. For me performances in a friendly kick about and the spanish second division is not something that will set my heart racing. Hope his matter won't become like that of Rabiu Ibrahim who had a lot of hype around him but eventually fizzled out. Like you said this might be Kelechi's last chance to impress rohr this season. humility33: |

I will not say anything to derail but the bold ![]() sheyishemba: |
Good list. Kind of surprised you omitted Onuachu. For all his flaws Onuachu is a proven goal scorer every squad needs such people. Omeruo too is an unnecessary addition. If it's experience we already have that in Ekong and Balogun. The Kenneth I've seen in a few of our last friendly matches doesn't bring anything new again to the team IMHO. Yes he's decent but I would rather give younger upcoming CBs like Awaziem and Akpoguma a chance to stake their claim. If Musa regains his form in Turkey I would include him as well. charlesemeka85: |

If he does all that and doesn't perform would he still be a fan favourite? They are paying for Henry Onyekuru so they should accept the complete package. He always colours his hair and now he wants green simple as that. Pogba scored 2 goals against city with blue hair so go figure.
