Batshuayi? lol, Origi decent but not exactly awe inspiring, plus a Benteke on the decline. I think Dessers would have had a fair chance against these guys.

Samueltemi337:
3 years ago Dessers was playing for Cremonese
He still wouldn't have made the team
There was a Batshuayi, Origi and Benteke who would all have been picked ahead of him

We've generally had very poor cadet coaches post covid.

The Olympics would have been a perfect place to try out all our prospects but the unseriousness of the NFF really cost us. Imagine we qualified for the last olympics in Paris it would have been a no brainer to take Ebenezer, Eletu, Daga, Benjamin Fredrick, Osuji. I'm sure featuring at sure a high ;evel of competition would have made them extra ready for the SE.

Napoleon55:
Including U-20 and U-23.

Appointment of the wrong set of coaches late and abandoning the system that use to work are the main reasons for this.
There are still talents at the academies and beyond across the nation.

Our U-23 team for instance should be best used in trying out some of these upcoming players and some of the not yet established foreign borns to give them a sense of belonging.
I remember when Siasia took Ekong to the Olympics, because if his good performance at the Olympics, he went straight to the main super eagles team back from the Olympics.

If we're talking 2-3 years ago I think Dessers would have the very least have been squad member of the Belgian national team. Apart from Lukaku which decent forward did Belgium have 3 years ago?

Samueltemi337:
Dessers is 30 years old and plays for Rangers
The Belgium team wouldn't be rebuilding with that

Currently Belgium has
Lois Openda
Leandro Trossard
Charles De Ketelaere
There is even a young Norman Bassette if they are looking to rebuild
Even Mbangula who can play as a second striker

There's no way Dessers will even make the bench

If the deal becomes reality Akor should give his agent a raise. Adams hasn't exactly been wow this season but see he's now going to La Liga.

Agree that we shouldn't bring in too many new faces. Uche to strengthen the middle, Tella/Ejuke to put pressure on Chukwueze, and a fresh forward to bring dynamism from the bench.

Mujtahida:
Yeah
It's in one of those clips that I saw the guy. Chelle should not bring in more than two or three players now oo. We are at a crucial time. He should not make the mistake Eguavoen made in that our crucial world Cup qualifier against Ghana where he featured Bassey and Lookman as debutants

Yobo made his debut for the national team in 2001 plus what did he do extraordinarily in the time frame you mentioned?

Which Joseph Yobo? Same Joseph Yobo that Keshi benched for the majority of our 2013 AFCON win?

Same Yobo I saw play in the national team?

Ok

Subzerooo:
You answered your question, our defenders have glaring limitations that could be exposed in a 2 man defence, the last defender that we had that could comfortably hold his own in a 2-man defence was Joseph Yobo

True but at least he scores the easy ones better than most. To score double digit goals for 6 seasons straight is no joke.

BascoVanVeli:
U can say the same thing about Victor Osimhen. There have been plenty games where he scores the harder chance.

Bro I'm really amused at this your Amunike agenda.

First of you make it sound like Emmanuel was some extra ordinary manager with innovative ideas whereas his only claim to fame is winning a cadet championship countless others have won.

Before you bring up Tanzania many coaches have managed and done even better with smaller African teams.

Now this sabotage and tribal talk is just excuses. Every national team coach whether u17, u20, SF, SE you name have suffered from maladministration, poor preparations, and 'sabotage' but we never used it to shield coaches when they failed why should Amunike be different?

If the late Amodu Shaibu could relate what he suffered in the hands of the NFF you would write a petition to Hollywood to produce a biopic directed by Steven Spielberg with Forrest Whitaker starring as Amodu cos the story is damn too emotional.

TheGoodJoe:
Let me still rephrase myself again.

At this point in our history with the NFF, I believe we are with a ring of people that are not patriotic or detribalized in their judgment.

I believe, Amunike's ethnicity played a part in so many rejections from the NFF chamber.

I also used his open sabotages he dealt as the reason to back my belief. It was too harsh and consistent. Giving Finidi the job over him was still the continuous sabotage he has dealt with when it concerns the NFF.

To chip in, Oliseh didn't understand the challenges Keshi was dealing with and thought it was all smooth. When he got in and saw how bad things were, he had to scream out and leave. Keep in mind, Oliseh was also sabotaged. His CHAN team was a crazy one. Oliseh was spending thousands of dollars of his personal money to feed the team. Peterside Idah said he flew to South Africa, paid the CHAN team a visit in camp and Oliseh begged him for money to feed the players.

However, Amunike's own was long and severe. I believe some bad eggs in the NFF are tribalistic.

Egbon I still feel Keshi should have found a way to take Uche to the 2014 WC. After all this same troublesome Uche was recalled by Keshi for the AFCON 2015 qualifiers when Nigeria was in danger of missing out.

Kog45:
Keshi was not, fact if am in Keshi shoe Uche will not make my team.....Uche frustrated Keshi during Afcon. He dropped him for bad influence, criticizing your coach and still want to be part of the team...I thought Osaze made the team..Echiejele replaced Taiwo perfectly.

At the end Keshi reached 2nd round of WC that Westerhoff reached,so nothing like fraud.

Westerhoff and Keshi remain the bests.

I will be lying if I say I'm enamored with Chelle's appointment as SE coach. That said I mentioned before and I still maintain that the players are the major ones to step up and show character. If they can't be motivated to beat the likes of Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho (with due respect to them) then even hiring Ancelotti won't do the trick.

You're fully justified in your skepticism of this appointment and it will be left to Chelle and the players to win you over.

For now all we can do is give the new coach our full support until he proves (hopefully not) not to be up to par.

Goke7:
Let me quote from the article

He (Chelle) is a young coach, his record is blank at the moment but he's an ambitious coach

Will personally try MRS to see what the fuss is about.

The petrol may well be of higher quality, but the amount of articles popping out looks like coordinated campaign from Dangote

I dey always knows when Dangote done pay media people to write because they will push the same agenda for 2 weeks, then the agenda will disappear, just like the time they were posting that refineries in "the abroad" are closing down because of Dangote. An organic narrative does not suddenly appear and disappear.

Happy consecutive double digits day to the monster machine himself.

Still maintaining his reputation as one of Europe's elite forwards.

Bro should take his time and select a great club with an upward trajectory that will propel him further.

Looking more confident with his penalties lately like that should keep it up.

Victor Osimhen's goal 🆚 Göztepe today marks:
- His 💯th league goal in his career.
- His seventh consecutive season of scoring double digit(ed) number of league goals.

Yes being played in a position you thrive in is ideal but if you're a tactician who knows his onions you will know how to use the tools (players) for every match situation not necessarily relying on the position they play in their club.

Still remember how Bonfere Jo deployed Tijani Babangida to devastating effect against SA in the semifinals of the 2000 AFCON on the left side despite being a right winger. Mikel too that featured as a DM for Chelsea was mostly a CM and occasionally an AM for Nigeria.

EEGA:
I reiterate, that every player should be played in the same position they play in their club and not in their preferred position.

Iwobi needs to play on the right as a winger, while FDB plays in the advanced midfield role.

Raph can take the CDM role while another CM, preferably Uche Chrisantus takes the CM or b2b role.

Plus Uche is a DM/CM not that kind of profile player who will be dropping goals and assists every match day. Happy New Year Egbon.

Kog45:
Thank you....Mikel in national team gave us good performances despite no goal or assist with Chelsea....Uche Christanus I watched is not about goal or assist but a player that closes spaces and give passes with ease even in difficult situations.

They really laid the foundation for lots of Nigerian youth to take Afropop/Afrobeats seriously.

afrodoc2:
I watched the first half hour. E no easy to watch 2.5 hours of image whitewashing. LOL.

On a more serious note though the PR job and image rebranding Kenny and D1 did for Nigerian music can’t be quantified.

This was a time when Nigerians themselves did not really like Nigerian music like that. No matter how wretched the Naija song was, Kenny would still call it a “haat new video”.

I get your point although I think since they made their debuts fairly late in 2023 and haven't featured much they can still fly especially Dele-Bashiru. Even Yusuf in your pick was called up in 2023.

Danielnino00:
Just to point out you number 4.... Bruno and Fisayo aren't exactly eligible for the category, seeing as they didn't make their debut in 2024...
I was thinking of not including Nwabali too, since he already played for the CHAN Eagles in 2021
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 7:23pm On Jan 02, 2025
Mikel had always been off and on as regards how consistent he was for the SE. In club football he was ok but ask Chelsea fan between him, Kante, Essien, Matic, and Makelele who they rated most in the DM and the answer will stare you boldly in the face.

Sorry I don't rate an underage tournament that much like the Olympics so using it to score points for Papilo won't fly. I admire Kanu but failing to score a single goal in 9 senior tournaments doesn't exactly wow me but that is another discussion for another day.

To remphasize Osimhen is the highest ever ranked Nigerian for Balon'Dor and FIFA awards. Lookman is the only Nigerian heck African to score a Hatrick in a European final feats the great Yaya Toure never achieved.

The only area of mutual agreement between us is that both need to win tournaments with SE to cement their legacy.

Goke7:
The thing about players like Yaya and Eto is that they were doing great stuff season after season and their impact even at their clubs was too much to ignore, you know why some folks here slam osihmen despite how excellent he is? It's because they want to see that dominance like Eto or Yaya cos that's how he can have 2,3 or 4 APOTYs. Mikel was also consistent despite the criticism and he was a major reason we won Afcon 2013, He's the reason Yaya couldn't do much damage to us in the quarterfinals that year. Lookman or Osihmen still needs to power us to an afcon title before we can finally consider them as one of our greatest players ever, Kanu won Olympic Gold for us despite not winning Afcon and that's why he's still miles ahead so Osihmen and Lookman still need to land us something big for us as a nation or surpass Yekini's goal tally. My view please
