Christianity Etc › Re: How Can We Rely On The Power Of God? by chrmn1: 11:02pm On Dec 03, 2016 |
OLAADEGBU: How can we rely on the power of God? Why is relying on the power of God so important? I'll tell you why. Now there are some conditions that are easily resolvable and there are issues that aren't so easy to resolve. Take health related issues for example. You have someone who has been diagnosed with an ailment, received medical attention but the issue lingered and probably was invited for a healing program and got healed. Whilst you cannot depend on the anointing of a man of God to run your life, there is something you can do. The Bible says, "physical exercise has its advantage but (spiritual exercise) culminating into godlikenness is profitable for all things and in all situations" (paraphrased) Point is, you need to build your spiritual capacity to handle situations that an ordinary human being may be unable to handle. I have an aunt and her son stopped breathing but she was able to revive the boy back. When she was telling us about the experience, she mentioned that she had handled a similar situation (along with a company of her friends years back). She had so built herself that when death knocked on the door of her son, she would not accept it but took charge of the situation without having to see a pastor. It takes more than bold face to do this sort of a thing and so that's why we need to depend on the power of God by building our selves spiritually, studying the Word of God, worshiping, praying in the spirit and taking out time to fast and pray. "God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above what we ask or think, according to His power that works in us" (Ephesians 3:20) i.e. the power of God that will work in your life is the one you have been able to appropriate, in simple terms These things when done consistently, are the keys to experiencing the supernatural in your own life. This will not only help your power bank for the proverbial rainy day but it would open you up with fellowship with the sweetest person, the Holy Spirit, who guides and shows things to come to anyone who cares to allow Him room in his/her life. Hope this clarifies |

michlan: Thanks a lot. The major thing Christians need to know in this generation is that a personal relationship with God is the most important. No matter how anointed/respected a man is, the moment he does/says something that is against scripture, we reject it. It was Christ that died for us and not any pastor/prophet. You've really encouraged my heart. Absolutely correct dear brother. There's a passage where Apostle Paul warned the Galatian Church (if I remember correctly), saying that even if an Angel came and declared another gospel, it should be thrown to the bin. You see our faith is not based on supernatural occurrences but in the Word of God. However, because God is always true to His Word, He would always honour our faith with tangible proofs and signs that baffle human thinking. Let's look at one scripture that buttresses this point. Mark 16:20: "And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following" Anyone who would pay the price and do whatever is required to have God do what He says in His word would have what they seek. God is no respecter of persons so it doesn't matter if your white, black or Asian or a chelsea fan. Just do what is required. That's the area that we (Christians in this generation, unfortunately) have to do more. There's a lot of spiritual laxity today. For us to achieve Azusa street type or the Welsh revival type spiritual awakenings, we've surely got to do more. God has all the power but are we ready to work with Him? You made my week when you said you were encouraged by my post. I wish you all the very best dear brother. |

CharlyG1: Please i would like to know if i should go ahead in sharing some hidden facts in the BFG movie i was talking about some weeks ago.
I want to share this message knowing fully well that many of us here have seen the movie.
There has been a long time plan by Satan to unite Man with Beast (demons). This has been an agenda by the powers of darkness for centuries and ages. And slowly, this has already began to happen. Many people are secretly mingling with demons. Some do it deliberately, and some do it indeliberately.
So many Hollywood movies subtly hide real satanic agendas and demonic symbols in them. When you see the directors behind such type of movies, you realize that they're either in the illuminati secret cult or they're Atheists.
We need to pay attention to things and people around us. Pay attention not with our ears, but with our spirits. Let your spirit be under the influence and guidance of the Holy Spirit, that you may see things for what they really are, that you may see people for who they really are and that you may be kept safe from impending danger.
Not everyone you call friend is a friend. And not everything you see with your physical eyes is as it is.
God has revealed to me so many things in my life, that i actually ignored some of them thinking it wasn't real. I mean how can my Primary school Teacher be in a secret cult? Why would God show me that after about 9years of knowing him. I didn't take that revelation serious, but now it's playing out before my very eyes. Now I have learnt never to doubt the Spirit of God again in my life! Many other things i've learnt from the Holy Spirit..
We need to be more open to the spirit.
God will use us if only we let Him. God bless us all. Man of God I thought to say hello. May God increase your anointing in Jesus mighty name. |
Christianity Etc › Re: A Response To Hardmirror's Post About Converting To Atheism by chrmn1: 9:42pm On Dec 03, 2016 |
michlan: I read the post by hardmirror about his renouncing Christianity and I must say that I am glad, sad and mad at the same time.
I am glad because his story has caused a personal revival in my own heart (1 Cor 10:12 is really welling up a revival in my heart as I’m getting fresh and deeper understanding), sad because it is an anguish for one who has seen the light before turn away from the path even in the heart of the Lord Jesus and mad because the devil is not resting in ensuring that he takes as many down with himself as possible.
As I kept on reading his piece, many scriptures kept flashing that made me cry back to God for a personal revival. Therefore, I see it as a need for some of us who has seen God’s goodness to testify of His works and how real he has been to us. My aim is not to start an argument nor defend God but we owe it to Him to always tell others about what he has done for us and I am convinced in my heart that truly, there is a God in heaven. I may not have seen as many “spiritual manifestations” as him, yet my experiences are real enough such that no man can convince me otherwise.
I became born again in my second week on campus and that was September 10, 2006 when some group of Christians were on evangelism on a Sunday morning and I immediately joined the fellowship and was being taught the rudiments of a Christian life. I got introduced to spiritual books and some of the experiences increased my thirst for the supernatural and I also started seeking such experiences like seeing visions, angels, miracles etc.
Now, I must confess at this point that I have never seen angels nor visions but God has revealed himself in ways I have come to love so much I would not give up for any “spectacular” experience.
When I became newly converted, I found myself still struggling with certain sins and I would cry afterwards to earn God’s forgiveness, but it was a major problem for me to be assured that God has heard my prayers, then I resorted to some tests which I used many times but I can vividly remember 3 distinct times. At 3 different locations when I finished praying and I wanted to be sure I was heard, there was no electrical power and I asked to make sure that power came on if he has really forgiven me, it was not up to 10 seconds after I said this that it happened, 2 times I asked for power to be restored and one time I asked for the power to be off. Please notice these were not same locations and the areas were not places that had erratic power supply. All this happened in my first year of being converted and God answered this spiritual babe in my ignorance.
Another event that I can never forget was on 2 different occasions on campus in my 2nd year, I was about to leave school at night and it was raining heavily, I prayed that rain should cease for me to get home (there were urgent needs for me to get home at those moments), the rains stopped immediately and the moments I entered my room, a very heavy downpour started both times (I had to trek for about 20 minutes to get home).
Please note that all these were during my days as a spiritual babe who was just curious about how real God was and these occurrences went on to cement my faith (at that time) that they were not ordinary nor were they coincidences. I am not saying that God is always bound to reveal Himself in such manners. Then He helped me and showed me a more excellent way and since then, I have not tried those methods again.
I got baptized in the Holy Ghost on July 26, 2008 and afterwards I started noticing some changes in me. I discovered that whenever I spoke, I usually speak with more authority (I had been very timid and an introvert before now) and my words usually came with power especially when I talk to people. Then a major turnaround happened some few months later.
A popular minister was to come to our campus to minister for 3 days and we had different units in preparation for the meeting, I joined the security/protocol unit and when he was coming for the evening crusade, I was the closest to him so I approached him to collect his bible, he just smiled and laid his hands on my shoulder for some seconds and said “God bless you brother” without giving his bible to me (I later learnt he doesn’t give his bible to others to carry).
I had never learnt about transfer of anointing neither was I seeking for any anointing, I only learnt what happened that day in some books I read afterwards. I also did not feel anything as he touched me but I observed the change when I got home afterwards. I opened my bible to read and anywhere I opened to read became life and practical to me, I discovered that when I am faced with any situation at any season, scriptures will just jump from my heart describing my situation and showing the way forward. I could sit down with a verse of scripture and write pages on the issues there especially as it pertained to our contemporary world. Let me take my time to share some of my experiences on the word of God becoming life to me.
My set finished from school in December 2012 and we were hoping to go for service in March of 2013, that was when they started the issue of JAMB regularization. Some of us including me came in through pre-degree and were told that we could not make the first batch in March but rather wait for July. Suddenly, when the mobilization list for July came out, my institution was excluded because the staffs submitted our names after the deadline due to their negligence, we were all told to wait for November. It was very distressing because we had other things we needed to achieve in life rather than wait endlessly for NYSC. I could remember that few weeks before the orientation camp for July would commence, I was just lying on the sofa in our living room that afternoon and I was reading John 4 then I came to verse 35, I was about to pass it through until a voice in my heart (whom I’ve come to know as the Holy Spirit) called me back to it. I was reading the king James version “Say ye not 4 months and then cometh Harvest” (it was 4 months between each NYSC batch) and the word “Harvest” was interpreted to me as “Service”.
If you see the way I jumped out of the chair that day, I was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that I will be going for service that July even if our name was not on the mobilization list. That night we heard a news from school that the NYSC has asked them to resubmit our list just 2 weeks to camping. When the call up letter came out about 1200 of us were given call-up letters out of the remaining 2500 students. Now a very close friend of mine who was also a Christian was not among and had to wait till November. Were the others who had to wait sinners and why did God not answer their own prayer? (I will address this question later). These are verifiable facts and you can ask anyone who went for service in June 2013 from LAUTECH.
Another experience I would love to share happened in February 2016 about how I got a job after over a year of trying. I had a plan to go for my masters in GIS because I did my internship at my school’s GIS lab and was convinced it’s the field for me to pursue my career. However, I needed to get working experience to improve my chances as I planned to apply to some schools in Germany due to the free tuition. I searched online for such firms around Lagos and got 3 addresses I was planning to visit. I had spent a lot searching for jobs and it was starting to get frustrating, so on this fateful day, I left home for surulere where the first firm was located. I also called the 2 other firms on my way, one of them did not pick the phone while the other told me there was no vacancy, when I reached the one at surulere, I was told that they don’t have space to take me.
I remembered walking down Ogunlana drive and I was so dejected and paraphrased a scripture to God “I have toiled all day and I have caught nothing” Luke 5:5 and I simply heard that voice in my spirit quoting verse 4 back to me so I called back the previous one that did not pick but again I heard no response, as I got to under the bridge at Ogunlana drive where there is a checkpoint, the man called me back, I explained my situation to him, then he asked me to come and see him in his office the following day, we chatted and he asked me to come and resume immediately without collecting my CV. My plan was to also get experience even if it meant no pay but thank God I received a pay to cater for my transport, feeding and I could also save and send some money to my younger brother in school.
To me, the bible is not just some words on paper but when the Holy Spirit breaths on it in my heart, it becomes so powerful than the greatest forces in the physical and spiritual.
Permit me to also share this particular incident when I was having my IT, I had stayed back in school to do the IT in my department in obedience to the instruction I received. There was a bookshop in town I had gone to look for a particular book and I was told the book was N4500 and I was waiting for when I will have the total amount to go and purchase this book. On this particular day, I heard the same voice in my spirit telling me to get up now and go to the bookshop to buy the book, all the money I had to spare that day was 4200, I was a bit hesitant because I would still need a transport fare of 100 naira to and fro but I decided to obey that voice within me.
I got a taxi to take me to where the bookshop was and when the driver got to the bus stop before where I was going, I was the only passenger left in the car and the man apologized that he will have to turn at that junction to go to another place he needs to be urgently. The place was just about 100 meters to where I was going, so I alighted and gave the man the fare but he insisted he will not take it, I told him not to worry and take it but the man refused, so I thanked him and trekked to the seminary where the bookshop was located.
On getting there, I discovered that they were having a conference and there were various book selling stands (I had no previous idea such a thing was going on) so I approached one where I saw the particular book I was looking for and the seller told me it was 4100, I nearly cried as I was awed by how caring God was about little details of my life, then the man asked what I was doing, I told him I am a student and he said he’s very glad when he sees students and youths reading books in this generation, then he returned 100 naira to me making it 4000 naira I paid for the book, water kept dripping from my eyes on my way back because I came to appreciate the supernatural way God was leading me even if it was not “spectacular” as what many people (including me) hoped to experience but I have come to see how divine those leadings were.
Time and space will not permit me to share many other events such as the circumstances surrounding my coming to Germany, how deliverance comes from “merely” teaching the bible, my NYSC experiences, how God told me to watch and see who my real father is when I had some issues with my dad and he did not send any money to me in school for 8 months (that was the period I had money most in school), how God disciplines me when I go wrong, the encounter I had with God’s word and has made me to never fall sick or use a drug since 2008 up till this moment even though I was a frequent patient of malaria before then.
I also remember how my roommate on campus then was delivered from High BP (about 4 of us knew about it on campus) when a word of knowledge came from the pulpit when a guest minister mentioned there was a young man in the meeting who had high blood pressure and that it has been taken away. He had been to the hospital like 4 times for about a year and they kept on telling him he still had it before the ministration. The next time he went to the hospital to check, it was gone, he said the doctor kept on telling him they would keep observing to see how real his miracle was. My friend got married last Saturday and he still does not have any High BP up till now.
Or is it about a blind man that got to see when we went for an outreach and a “common” brother in the fellowship prayed for him. I am not saying that God has answered all my prayers as that would be a lie or all his revelations have been palatable. I remembered when he showed me that one of my mum’s siblings would die that year, I informed my mum and I started praying about it but it still happened few months after that as her eldest sibling suddenly slumped and died at the age of 62. Many other times, I have prayed for people’s healing but they still do not get it. It doesn’t change the fact that He is God or powerless, the truth is that no man can fully comprehend God or know what he knows but I am content to always appreciate the little knowledge I have of and from him.
My submission is that anyone who tries to fully know/explain God will lose his mind but anyone who ignores Him will lose his soul, thus, I am content with Deut 29:29. He is the creator and is never subject to the wishes, prayers, wills, emotions, needs of his creation even though he responds to them as a responsibility.
My aim is not to start another argument over whether He exists or not but to give my own personal testimony of my experience with him. Even if any man comes up with “logical” reasons for such experiences, it doesn’t change the fact that they are yet real to me and I keep on getting assurances of His love for me as a father. My experiences with God also does not make others who do not have such less of a Christian as I’ve come to discover they also have an experience of God which I’ve never had
All the accounts I have shared with you are first hand experiences and you have the choice to believe or disbelieve them, it still doesn’t change God or whether they are true or not but I know whom I have believed, the things I have seen, touched and handled in my walk with Him and am convinced that He lives forevermore. Shalom more grace brother. There's something you touched on in your post that I also experienced when I started out in this journey. I noticed that whenever I cried out from my heart to God on an issue, I got answers. It reminds me of that passage where it says, "the heart felt prayer of the righteous is tremendously effective" (James 5:16). Sometimes, I would pray and find myself weeping and sobbing as a child and belive me, my fellowship with the Holy Spirit has given me unspeakable advantage particularly in my career Now this is a personal thing. If somebody should ask me to prove what I'm talking about, I may not do a good job in proving it to the person but just like I know I got some grey hair on my head, I know this thing is real. Some may live in denial, but that's them not you. You've got nothing to prove to no one because it's a personal thing. Enjoy your walk with God and I wish you the very best. Don't hesitate to let we your brothers and sisters know if you've got some areas of difficulty. Cheers! P.S: I'd advise that you take that hard mirrored story with a tiny pinch of salt as the story teller is a skilled hardmirrorer. |

But it is crazy for you to say you know how the world was created because it was written in a book! A book that didn't undergo any experimentation, hypothesis or observation, just written because an idea "came to the writer's head".. but you just said we should accept the idea that the earth was not created. That's the point I disagreed and still disagree with |

Until then, any claims by religious people are utter Nonsense! so you mean you accept that the basic materials that formed the universe just showed up or that they created themselves. It's one thing to say 'I don't know' and quite another to say 'it happened like this' when you know deep down in your heart that it couldn't have happened that way. |

Prayer doesn't work! That is why in the Bible, you read things like " pray and work", "heaven help those who help themselves".. . Why didn't the Bible just say "pray".. Because prayer doesn't work! You can easily work without praying and still get your work done! People who believe that prayer works, are really delusional.. if prayer works, then why do god not answer all prayers??
I thought you guys believed that god has a "plan", why then do you pray to change God's plan? And why do god answer your prayer to change his plans? Simply put, there is no God! Even if there is God, then I think me being an atheist is part of "his perfect plan"... Rubbish! I'll just touch on your point, "Why can't you guys just believe the earth wasn't "created"?". We can't just believe the earth wasn't created because there is no proof that supports that position |

PDBonline: It's an assumption that if God speaks His voice can be recorded. There are other sounds in nature that other animals naturally pick but it took us several centuries of scientific sophistication to pick. We were the ones not picking the sounds all along. People who are not directly hit by bomb can still be killed by the sound waves generated that is beyond the limits of our ears to pick.
About MMM, if God tells someone something, it is in that person's interest. His or her case may be different from yours. For example, I have wanted to play the "Who wants to be a millionaire" home play before and God tells me not to. I won't go on the street to tell everyone not to. It's personal.
HOWEVER GOD IS REAL AND HE SPEAKS TO US. HE CAN SPEAK TO YOU TOO- IN FACT HE DOES, BUT RARELY IN AUDIBLE VOICE.
Other Examples of God Speaking To Me
- I was in an executive meeting and the M.D. was talking about opening another branch somewhere and sending one of the staffs to handle the place. God lets me know that will be a wrong move and I tried to persuade the man not to make the move but he was so confident (I too didn't tell him God said so anyway). Well he ended up losing both the staff and all the investment in the branch.
- I thought my spouse would have someone she would marry already when I met her. God told me I was wrong and she later confirmed it.
- Someone had prayed that he wanted a divine confirmation of the course he would study to be sure and that God should use me for this (I won't advise anyone doing that anyway). It was computer science he was considering but just wanted to be sure. Immediately we met I "saw" COMPUTER SCIENCE written across his forehead before I knew why he came. That was wasn't what I cooked up.
- Someone went for a job interview and it looked very bad plus initially she was not interested (people have said the CEO of the company is wicked). Well, I told her what God told me when I asked about it: 1. She will be employed 2. It will be for her training to learn how to run a similar company and it will be a rigorous training. SURE ENOUGH, she was employed and within 3 months (before six month when she was to be confirmed) she was promoted to head all the branches and to represent the CEO which led to her training to handle things only the CEO normally handles. The company is currently in her care under the CEOs watch.
... and so on. What you choose to believe can either help or limit you. God is real and He is my Advantage. that's what I've always told people to know God for themselves. I like what you said about Him being your advantage. You see there are some posts on NL I see discrediting God's existence that honestly gets me laughing. Now can you imagine somebody wanting to come and convince you that God doesn't exist? It wouldn't just make sense to me and this is coming from someone who wasn't born a Christian. PEACE bro! |

MrMarvelous: I'm sure it has, that's why you cannot provide proof it has. You'd think the millions of people worldwide would be able to provide proof it has, but no they would go through mental gymnastics not to provide proof. You defo know the mind of this god, mind telling it to end world hunger, poverty, recession...or doesn't it love people enough to want all that to end? I'm not asking for laboratory proof young man, that's a straw man. When someone makes an extraordinary claim of such magnitude, wouldn't it be fair to ask this person for proof? I mean if I told you I have a house to sell to you, but I can't show it to you and the landlord isn't obligated to show it to you...that you just have to believe everything in the house is working perfectly. will you take me seriously? Be honest please. That's exactly what skeptics are asking for...take me to the house, lemme see the landlord and see the house for myself. Why's it so difficult to provide independent, objective proof for its existence? And as regards your "illustrious son hard-mirror" statement, I'd have insulted you but I don't want to be banned. But please use your head, what's my business with the dude? I'm sure if we go through the history of this section, there are some religious folks that have been caught lying and they deactivated their accounts. I personally hate lying, so I condemn what he did/didn't do...but that's the difference, just because he's an atheist doesn't mean if I see something wrong I won't point it out. I wouldn't need to go over accounts of healings all over the world across generations from Charles Finney to Smith Wigglesworth to Kathryn Kulhman to Kenneth Hagin to Kenneth Copeland to Archbishop Benson Idahosa and the list goes on because you will explain them away but these events are in modern history and not some kind of unverifiable folk tale. I personally experienced one which is imprinted in my memory as though it happened yesterday. To deny their existence or at least abilities that are beyond human ability would amount to naivety. God doesn't owe anybody the obligation to prove Himself. When the Jews in the bible asked Him for a sign, He declined because He knew they were asking these from Him for mischievous reasons. He said, 'a wicked and adulterous generation seeks a sign, but none will be shown to them except the sign of Jonah' (paraphrased). The reason why you may not be able to see a proof anytime soon is, He has said, that anyone who would consistently and wholeheartedly seek Him, He would reveal Himself to them. But you are not even a Christian yet so that window is obviously closed for now. The other one is that you cannot verify whether the healings in conferences and crusades are genuine or not by carrying out an independent investigation on Nairaland or in your room. The least you could do is interview the supposed recipients of the healings and miracles but what you usually do is dismiss them all as some trick. Hope this clarifies |

MrMarvelous: Of course you'll not. Because you know damn well the story isn't true. Just apply the same logic you've been using all your life to your religious claims, and you'll most likely abandon it. contrary to your belief, God has revealed Himself personally to many in the world who cared to do what He said in the Bible is to be done to have this experience, including me. Problem is you and your lot require such a proof in some laboratory. Unfortunately, God is not obligated to make Himself known in your laboratory so keep parading yourselves like you know everything that is to be known. Doesn't change anything and even a million posts on Nairaland would not change the truth of God's existence. I just needed to respond to your post and I didn't mean to derail the thread as this thread was opened for us to discuss one of your illustrious sons, hard mirror aka collins spider |
