This was a process initiated by the GEJ administration,and it costs him his second term bid as the US didn't support him cos of this policy and couple of other policies he tried putting in place,to wean us off our dependency on the west. I'm happy Buhari is carrying on with it. I know the US won't like this. When the late ghadaffi suggested that countries should keep their reserves in other currencies other than the US dollar,they went for him. Unfortunately,Africa no longer have strong leaders who can stand up to the west.

I think your dad was spiritually blind/naive/careless when alive and that must have led to his death. you need to be spiritually alert so not to go the same way he went. You really don't need to respond. One of the ways to know a daft person,is that He/She would use a one-off situation that occurred towards the tail end of a particular regime,which was more of a sabotage of the system,to compare a situation that is gradually becoming a norm under a new government,which is being caused due to bad monetary and economic policies. That's like comparing apples and lemons. Before you pass a verdict,ask yourself what the underlying factors responsible for both scarcities are. Under PMB,importers are not able to access forex to import fuel;only NNPC is importing at the moment. Under GEJ,marketers suddenly held the nation to ransom over exchange rate differentials incurred in the process of importing fuel...

@ op, be sincere it was not this bad under Jonathan, mind you the shortage of fuel towards the end of Jonathan's tenure was a grand manipulations from the detractors of his government just to whip up sentiments from the already angry electorates who are hell bent to get him out. Majority of the people who commented on this thread,are just plain stupid and dumb or altogether,ignorant. For your information,the ECA(excess crude account) was a product of the obasanjo regime and it didn't have any legal/constitutional backing. It was an illegal account created for a good purpose. Moreso,during obasanjo's period,he had less governors antagonizing him and as such,it was easy to take decisions during FEC meetings which was made up of mostly PDP governors. Jonathan's ascension to power was accepted by most Nigerians but most of the politicians from the north especially,kicked against it. It was during his tenure that governors suddenly realized that the constitution had no provision for the ECA and as such,the ECA technically became an illegal account. The governors sued the FG to court and by the executive realized they were going to lose this case,they decided to come uP with another account which will serve the same purpose of the ECA,and also be made to have constitutional backing. This led to the creation of the sovereign wealth fund(SWF) account. It went through the national assembly and was passed into law,and has constitutional backing. Nobody can sue the FG now,if the govt decides to save. Projects like Youwin and a couple of others,were funded from savings in the SWF account.
Yes,Obj tried in creating the ECA but whatever is worth doing,is worth doing well. Corruption did not allow the Obj regime make the ECA go through legislative procedures and this gave the governors an opportunity to force GEJ's hands. "Criminals know the loopholes in the law and always take advantage of it". This was the quote by a DPO to me when I was defrauded in a business transaction. That's exactly what the governors did. We should be happy that the SWF account now has constitutional backing;no greedy/thieving governor would ever be able to force the hand of any Nigerian leader again.
One more thing I need to clarify here;foreign reserves in different from ECA/SWF.

What pains me most,is the fact that some morons keep shouting "pdp destroyed Nigeria for 16 yrs" like Nigeria was better off under abacha,ibb,abdusalam and the likes. We had militaryy rulers for yrs and there was no form of development. The same obj who apc appointed as their chief navigator,held sway for 8 yrs out of the pdp's rule;so what exactly are these morons talking about? If the little development experienced from 1999,had been embarked upon before that time,Nigeria will not be where it is today. Instead of them blaming the kingpin of corruptions(our past military rulers and politicians pre-99,they're busy blaming either Jonathan or 16 yrs of PDP's govt. Old expired rulers are being reecylced to lead. In 2019,both parties would present someone from the past who has been a part and parcle of the problem. If past regimes had contributed their bits up till when we returned to democracy,we wouldn't be where we are today.

For me,America is everything that's wrong with the world. Her foreign policies in the middle east,has led to the steady increase of terrorism world over and I do not see this abating anytime soon. Her views on homosexuality and Her desire to export this world over,and bully/threaten countries who reject it,is something else to worry about.

And are you aware that our current situation can lead to the situations you just posted? In fact,we're not very far from it. Any form of civil unrest now,that leads to anarchy and births a civil war,would just see us experiencing just about everything. My prayer is that we do not get to that point.

Pathetic. I've been buying fuel for between 130-200 per litre for some time now. The funniest aspect is that,it is now like a normal thing. If this had happened In the last administration,by now,the opposition would have shut naija down. Even the NLC and the TUC,have become mute. It's now everybody,fight for yourself. I've never seen this type of hardship before. I'm already tired of committing naija into God's hands cos it appears God is even tired of our problems. But to be honest,the situation is terrible. Any Nigerian to survive's this hardship,should give God glory. What can be worse than having no light,no fuel,bad economy,bad political atmosphere and uncertainty of the future,in any given country?
