PoliticsPoor Power Supply To Last Till July by chuks49(op): 8:49am On Apr 03, 2012
For many Nigerians that have experienced poor power supply in recent weeks, you might just have to endure a little bit more till everything gets back to normal at the hydro-power plants. Until July precisely, when the nation’s dams will have accumulated more water needed for more power generation

According to the Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji at a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, he blamed the limited amount of rainfall last year and the shortage of gas supplied to the gas plants, as the major cause for the outages, which will still last for the next three months.

According to the Minister “a number of the gas power plants have gas constraints, gas limitation; some are not getting at all, we don’t want to blame gas as the only reason why we have power problem in the last three weeks because of limited rain last year. The black flood did not really arrive; as a result we have severe shortage with water.”

Professor Nnaji also stated that “we have had to really be careful about how water is managed within the hydro-plants such as Kanji Jebba and Shiroro dams.”

He also explained that the power plant at Shiroro dam, is presently working for three hours due to the low level of water from the Shiroro dam. “Power is shut down for most of the day except from 7 to like 10’O clock.” “That is when power is available” he quipped.

This he affirmed “will continue to be so until July when we will have the black flood” he stated.

Professor Nnaji also revealed that the plants are undergoing reconstruction to ensure maximum capacity and he also announced structural adjustments in the management of major power distribution and transmission companies in the country.

EducationBauchi To Sack Over 5,000 Unqualified Teachers. by chuks49(op): 1:49pm On Mar 29, 2012
CITING the need to improve quality of education, the Bauchi State government has concluded plan to sack 5,502 teachers who are not qualify to teach.

The Chairman, Bauchi State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Abdulahi Dabo, who spoke through an official, Alhaji Kasim Ibrahim, yesterday while reacting to the ultimatum given to the state government by the National Union of Teachers (NUT) to embark on strike over the issue, explained that in a special arrangement with the College of Education, Azare, some of them will be re-trained to improve on their standard and then re-engaged by the board as some of them have families which they have to cater for.

He said about 12,864 teachers were screened out of the 19,533 teachers on ground, adding that “those affected are NCE teachers that could not defend their certificate, claimed that they inherited certificate as well as those with Diploma and Grade 2 certificates who are not qualified as the minimum requirement for teachers is NCE.

“The exercise is a continuous one because we will still screen degree holders,” the chairman said.

An Arab entered a taxi in
London. Once he was seated he asked the cab
driver to turn off the radio because he was not
permitted to hear music other than that decreed
by his religion. In the time of the Prophet, there
was no radio & certainly no music, he explained,
especially Western music which is the music of
infidels. The cab driver politely
switched off the radio, stopped the cab & opened
the back door. D Arab asked him: "What are U
doing young man?" The cab driver answered: "In
the time of the Prophet there were no taxis. Get the hell out & wait for a camel.
