Gunmen abduct 80-yr-old woman in Ondo
Published on 20 October 2010 with 0 comments

Unknown gunmen have abducted an  80 year old woman, Mrs. Pege Esther Wewe, the mother of the Ondo State Commissioner for Culture on Tourism  in Ese-Odo local government area of Ondo State.

The octogenarian was allegedly abducted with another 12 year old girl, Miss Rachael Lawrence at Sabomi village in the riverine local government area.
It was gathered that the development was a fall out of the disagreement between the chairman of the local government, Mr. Kennedy Peretei and Ese-Odo youths.

The aggrieved youths were protesting alleged maladministration by the local government boss. Wewe is one of the political leaders in the local government.
The kidnappers have demanded N50 million ransom on their captives before they could be set free.
The whereabouts of the two kidnapped persons were still unknown at the time of filling this report.
The commissioner was said to have been confused over the development which occurred on Friday at Sabomi village in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of the State.

Ondo State Police Command and the State Government have vowed to secure the release of the woman and the girl, assuring also that the kidnappers would be arrested and brought to book.

It was learnt that the woman was in her home on the fateful day when the kidnappers, armed with dangerous weapons, sneaked in and whisked her away along with the 12 year-old girl, suspected to be her grand daughter.
Reacting, the state Commissioner for information, Mr. Ranti Akerele described the incident as the height of inhuman action and depth of human wickedness.
He noted, that the kidnap of an 81-year old woman from the comfort of her home, in company of her  12-year-old girl, was criminal in all its ramifications.
He said, The government of Ondo State vehemently condemns the act and we are leaving no stone unturned to secure the release of the kidnapped persons.

I want to say however that Ondo State is not a haven of criminality; although we are a Niger Delta state. Such things would not be allowed to thrive here.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has condemned the action of the kidnappers.
A statement signed by the Police Spokesman, Aremu  Adeniran (ASP) said the Command was making efforts to  arrest the criminals and secure release of the captives.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police Ballah Nasarawa assured the public that his command was on the top of the situation, urging law abiding citizens to go about their duties without fear of molestation.

Actually I say bandwagoner because you all neglected to approach me directly to discuss with me, in an attempt to understand my view. Instead, you just went ahead to see 'sense' in Uchenna's incessant village crying. Also, you've misconstrued my statement about not changing. Lastly, you're still not getting it. I'm not asking you to agree with me (as in, I'm not asking you to go with my claims or thoughts). That would be naïve of me. Instead, I'm simply inviting you to understand, but you clearly still insist on arguing it & quite honestly, I'd rather not do the whole arguing thing. It's too much of a hassle and it doesn't get us anywhere in terms of understanding.
Fair enough. I agree. cool

Yeah, that makes sense. I agree, but I feel that a more concrete approach would be much more effective.
I feel you, the proposal we discussed in the Extent of Ala Igbo about the provinces, definitely could have checked a lot of these issues and the preservation of indigenous tongues being taught in schools.Unfortunately nigeria that we know who today is not structured that way.

ChinenyeN:
You're simply displaying more preconceived notions, Chyz & I'm laughing at you bringing up the expression "ohnuhnu". It just goes to show how much you have gravely misconstrued. Lastly, of all the Igbo here on NL who have addressed me on this particular issue, only Abagworo and Asha and (quite possibly) Ezeagu do not jump at my statements the way the rest of you do (forgive me if I forget your name). Ever wondered why that is? It's because they are the only ones who seem to understand my viewpoint. They realize that I am not denying/rejecting "Igbo" & they realize that I don't have any 'anti-Igbo' agenda. The rest of you though, blindly followed Uchenna and all of his village crying. NONE among you ever tried to understand. Instead, you followed your "hero", blindly, like bandwagoners. Ever wonder why you have not yet been able to prove your claims? Ever wonder why there exists abundant, explicit evidence to the contrary of what you all repeatedly accuse me of? Even, the fact that you actively neglect where I have (times over, and even in my last response) explicitly stated that I accept & do not deny/reject "Igbo" speaks volumes about your preconceptions.

I am neither "negatively clannish" nor do I have "selfish" motives, but you refuse to accept that, even though abundant evidence exists to the contrary, and at the same time you are unable to even prove your claims and accusations.
I see you still haven't noticed how one sided you are when it comes to self and you dont even know it(maybe you do). Funny how we are labeled as "bandwagoners" because we choose not to go with your claim or way of thought. After all you are the guy who says he will never change, ever ironically your are the same guy who constantly tells the other person to do so. You can't always get your way. Anyways continue.

ChinenyeN:
It's sad how you want to use a compromised memory to substantiate your claim, BUT first thing's first, you assumed way too much here:
You're assumption here is, to avoid being brash, baseless. In order for the above to even hold any shred of truth, you will have to point me to where I stated or otherwise implied that I do in fact reject or deny the "Igbo" title. That is your first mistake. You are basing ALL of your claims on the assumption that I have or am denying/rejecting "Igbo", yet you have no way to substantiate my supposedly claimed denial or rejection of "Igbo". If anything, there is evidence to the contrary. I do in fact accept "Igbo"; just not the way you do.

Now, in addressing the rest of your post, let me show you where you failed woefully, with compromised memory. That statement you are referring to was made by Ibime, and this is what he stated.

The below, was my response to the above quote.

Your preconceived notions did not allow you to properly read and interpret Ibime's statement. You were fixated to your assumption of me rejecting/denying "Igbo", that your interpretation was in fact a mis-interpretation, and your memory of that moment has long since been compromised. Meaning that your claim, as well as your understanding has long since been baseless and lacking substantiation; founded on nothing more than pure assumption.

Now, to address the issue of where Ngwa-Ukwa stand on this issue of states, there has long-since been a call, by Ngwa-Ukwa to have Obigbo and other Ndoki villages in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom brought back to their kith and kin in Abia. Not the other way around. Looking at the larger scope, there has also long since been a call by Ngwa, Asa, Ndoki, & quite possiby some Echee (and maybe some Ikwerre) for the manifestation of Aba state. Believe it or not, quite a number want out of Rivers state. Now, delving further into the state issue, the people of Aba province were against the creation of Abia state & they preferred to remain with their cousins of Owerre province, rather than being sectioned off with Old Bende.

Long story short, you've made way too many assumptions, and you've misconstrued a lot. So, next time, try discussing with me, for understanding, instead of jumping on the Uchenna bandwagon and accusing me without taking time to properly understand the matter, the way Asha & Abagworo have, since.
Look all of that is nonsense that you've written. I and the others say the same thing so there is something you need to check about yourself. You were they same person refer to those of us who are not ngwa as "You ohnuhnu people" and so forth. You are clannish and in a negative way so accept it. All of that jargon you typed is nonsense.

ChinenyeN:
Metal, I've got no issue with you. Likewise, you shouldn't have any with me. So don't start addressing me as if we have some sort of history or beef or whatever, because we don't, and I we won't. Simple. Now, to respond to your post, there are very few threads and very few posts in which I, myself have directly raised an Ngwa this or that topic; very few. All the derailing you complain about is credited to some of your Ohnuhnu brethren, more especially your Igbo "hero" Uchenna, who just loves keeping my people's name in his mouth. So don't come accusing me of something some of your fellow Ohnuhnu seem to love to do. Now, shouldn't you go searching for that Brooklyn kid to squabble with?
I've personally experienced this here in diaspora, of all places. I didn't know what to think about it at first, but when I finally asked my father and other Ngwa about it, the response was "yeah, Ohnuhnu mock us".

ChinenyeN:
Chyz, I doubt diapora meetings are that effective.
true.however, its not just the meetings. clans tend to stick around each other and do everything together. Its the interaction that keeps the "lect" going. I rarely(really rarely) see my folks interacting with those outside of their clans. Mostly because they knew each other back in nigeria or through introductions at sunday meetings. The last time i was in Imo i heard a couple times people saying "dalu". Dalu is not an Imo word at all most who havent travel outside of Imo would not know what it means but since people are traveling to work in places like Onitsha or Nnewi they bring back those non-indigenous words.

Lots of igbo is being mixed i even know in mbaise the original word for God the Creater is "Chileke" but both that and "chineke" is used at regularly. Also, they say "la" and "na regularly as well but of course "la" seems to be the indigenous one.

Can you substantiate that claim? (I've asked this of you and co. before, but you couldn't substantiate then. . so now I'm wondering why you would, yet again make such unsubstantiated claims).
If all is accusing of the say thing,it would be wise of you to go back through your posts, read, and ponder on what you wrote and the responses that you've got from it. I'll give you one example since the rest "haven't been able to do so"; although i know you wont accept it. Back in Extent of Ala, you know the rest. One of the the nairalanders made a comment saying that "you and your people probably just want to be with your brothers in River State" and you agreed. To me and im sure the other Igbos you only agreed because you believe by annexing you clan into Rivers State it will give you more of a chance to reject your "Igbo" title and go by only your clan title(not be igbo). Like a lot of Rivers State igbos have done; However, your "brothers" are in Mbaise so if anything if you want to be with your "brothers" it should be annexed to Imo.If that happened it would be no chance of that denying being "Igbo" stuvs sticking. That's just one of them.

As for tribalism. I don't understand why people are still using it like they are. Me, I will not lie. I am a full-fledged, wholly-patriotic, clan loyalist. I see myself as a tribalist, and I don't understand what is wrong in that.

Chyz, i like the way you think. we should be trying to unite ( nigeria but i am not if africa would work, so let start with nigeria) to form a formidable force in africa and the world.we are the same whether yoruba, igbo or hausa . what affects me in naija affects u, unemployment, security etc
so, lets promote the unity!!! what do you thinkhuh
I am definitely pro-Africa but as far as nigeria being together as a country i will never support it. i think certain tribes are yearning for breathing room. Hence, envy and tribalism on NL. Once those tribes go their own way and recognize that they must respect that other tribe's country in order to recieve whatever it is that that country has that they dont then things will go smoothly for the simple fact that if you screw up and disrespect then that is it. This will enhance African unity.

1. You wanted to find out what tribe/region the scientist is from?

2. You were really interested in his discovery?

3. You just open up any thread Ileke-IdI creates? wink

Of course, tribalism is not a new thing on NL politics, once or twice, I've found myself guilty of this crime while I was trying to defend my own tribe.
If you're indeed honest with yourself, you'll find out that when you read the topic, number one immediately came to your mind. Judging by the replies on these kin dof prestigious recognition threads, number one is going to be 80% of NLer's choice.

YOU ALL NEED TO REFLECT ON YOURSELVES.
After the elections are all done hopefully i would have found another forum from by then, nairaland is turning out to not be the place.I'll preach my pan-africanism and separation of nigeria of a non-nigerian but African forum.
