you are very right, some people are very tribal which is immature!! but if it was the hausas, i know we would all be complaining!!! so, i doubt it jealousy but pls my brother dont mind the tribal ones.
also read my earlier comment
multicultural means that their is more than one culture there and each is allowed to embrace their own culture. If the others want to have their own ceremony why would it be a problem, let them go ahead but dont get mad because a particular tribe is going ahead and doing so while yours is not.

Was that the reason she stopped the Igbo day celebration? She will surely pay for it. She has dealt the final blow to her husband's presidential ambition.
Yes dealt the last blow. First she goes to Abia and lies about being from Umuahia, then she goes to Rivers and disrespects one of our governors publicly, now she has our ceremony shut down because of rice.

agbotaen:
ika was not founded by ezechima , ika communities existed long before ezechime , and ikas do not associate themselves as having been founded by ezechime, we only say he passed through our land , thats all , and as for aniomas producing governors in delta state, why do you bother yourself so much, try and attend to the cries of marginalisation that the south east have been shouting about .leave deltans alone , we know how to handle our problem.in delta state there are many groups like uhrobo, isoko, itsekiri, ijaws and the other groups that make up anioma such as aniocha, oshimili, ndokwa and ika .
out of all these groups it is the uhrobos that have produced the governor most, while the others did not , so this is the first time an itsekiri is governor in person of uduaghan , so what about isokos,? what about ijaws? .what about okpes ? so aniomas are not specially denied , it will come to our own turn.too. in the equation the aniomas have faired better in political power than many others in the state, we have produced two-deputy governors, speakers, secretary to governments, chairman of the P.D.P. ,MINISTERS .AMBASSADORS ,COMMISSIONERS AND OTHERS ,it is only the position of governor alone that we have not gotten , and we are not the only ethnic group in delta that have not got it .so lets strategise we will get there .other people who are not from delta should not cry themselves out , let them face the myriads of problems in the south ease like kidnapping, armed robery, lack of infrastructural facilities and leave delta state alone.
I think the argument continues because certain things arent addressed. Ok, for instance by your words, ika is a tribe,if so what language were they speaking before the igbos and bini influenced them linguistically and culturally. Another thing that i've observed that is leading to arguments is, why is is that the other tribes that were under the benin empire such as the yoruba, itshekiri, urhobo, ijaw dont have a similar story. How come none of them clain that they were bini people that were absorbed liguistically and culturally by those respective tribes? yorubas(ekiti, ondo), itsekiri, urhobo, ijaw also have bini influence linguistically and culturally so why is the ika case differently?. I think if you can address these issues it would bring these arguments to are close.Seems like a lot of people just want more of an insight thats all.

Patience Jonathan locks out another Igbo group
Friday, 01 October 2010 04:45 Abbas Jimoh

Less than a week after the lock out of the Igbo Political Forum in Owerri, Imo State on Monday, the annual world Igbo Day celebration organized by the FCT chapter of the Ohaneze Ndigbo was also forced to vacate the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja by First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

The first lady used the centre for her food outreach programme on the 50th independence anniversary celebration.

Media Adviser of the FCT chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Mr. Ben Bright Mkpuma, told Daily Trust last night on phone that the association had paid for the venue (Peace Haven) and even had assurances from the management of the centre that the venue will be available for their programme.

He said, “We have to move to the Old Parade Ground for the celebration of annual worldwide Igbo day celebration, it was being celebrated at the same time in Canada, United Kingdom and United States among other.

“Secretary of the association, Barrister Arau, had paid for the venue months back and we were even assured last night (yesterday) that we will have the venue for out programme only for the security operatives and management of the ICC to force us to relocate to Old Parade ground,” Mkpuma said.

The National Secretary of the National Conscience Party (NCP) Dr. Yunusa Tanko condemned the event, describing it as a campaign in disguise and a show of shame.

He said by “promoting campaign of rice and maggi. This shows that the country is in a poor state with hungry people. And rather than for the president to create job, his wife was distributing food.”

The yoruba government is good at keeping there dirt under the carpet while pointing fingers. There would be no "suspected" kidnappers if lots of people weren't being kid napped in the state. wink

Ondo Police Arrest 50 Suspected Kidnappers, Robbers
Thursday, 30 September 2010 06:59 Abdullahi Olesin, Ondo

The crime rate is said to have reduced remarkably in Ondo State and its environs following the recent arrest of not less than 50 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers by the Ondo State Police Command.

The suspects were said to have been arrested from different parts of the state in a decisive operation to rid the state of hoodlums and criminals and effectively tackle the crime situation in the state, coordinated by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ballah Magaji Masarawa.

Addressing journalists on the fete achieved by the command, the state's Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ballah Magaji Nasarawa, said the suspects include kidnappers of a member of the Edo State House of Assmbly, Hon. Abel Osheire in Edo State.

The arrests, he said, were made possible by the crime fighting strategy of the command as well as useful information received from members of the public on activities of the suspects, who had over the time been terrorizing residents.

Nasarawa further disclosed that 16 suspected student cultists from tertiary institutions in the state were arrested while trying to initiate new members as well as planning attack on a rival gang.

The commissioner also stated that a gang of four which was said to have attacked a traditional ruler, of Ijelu Noah Olufusi, (nameswithheld) in his residence were also arrested following complaint by the monarch.

Members of another gang, he said, were arrested during a nocturnal meeting in an abandoned building popularly called Tee Jay, along Hospital Road, Akure by a team of detectives. The gang is said to have been responsible for robbing one Hon. Atere, of Oda Road, Akure of his Honda car and other valuables.

The gang of four, the commissioner said, had confessed to the crime, disclosing that they usually snatch vehicles from Ondo and neighbouring states, which they subsequently take to Lagos to sell to their clients there.

While thanking member of the public for their support and assistance, the police boss also commended the cooporation of banks in the state in the operation, noting that the release of its Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage, which assisted the command in tracking down some of the suspects.

Lists of items recovered from the suspects include, two military rocket launcher, four Dynamites, three explosives and 115 magazines in military colours as well as 36 rounds of live ammunition.

Others are a White Astra Opel car with registration number Ogun AE 785 ABG, two Suzuki motor cycles and HP laptop computers, and two locally made pistols.

15 killed, 5 victims freed as armed forces, police raid kidnappers den in Abia

News Sep 30, 2010

By Anayo Okoli

UMUAHIA—NO fewer than 15 kidnappers were killed in a devastating offensive launched in at least two of the camps of the hoodlums by a combined squad of Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and State Security personnel Friday.

Vanguard gathered that not less than five kidnapped victims were released by the joint team and handed over to officers from the Abia State Police Command, while the bodies of the killed gang members were also taken away.

The military/police squad stormed the Ugwuatu_Asa Camp of the gang situated in a forest in Ukwa West Council, yesterday, shortly after Governor Theodore Orji’s broadcast, condemning the abduction of the 15 school children of Abayi International School.

The hoodlums who were taken by surprise were said to have engaged the squad in an exchange of fire and in the process about 15 of them were feared to have been killed, while  the rest took to their heels in different directions.

Governor Theodore Orji who later visited the dislodged camp of the kidnappers was happy that finally the onslaught had commenced and progress made in taking the battle to the kidnappers. He, however, noted that it was not yet time to celebrate until the 15 kidnapped nursery and primary school pupils were recovered and returned safely to their parents.

Orji told journalists on his return from the camps that he went to see things for himself and to also encourage the squad that was engaging the kidnappers in the war.

The governor said that he was still sad because the school kids were yet to be recovered, but noted that the operation will not hamper their safety in anyway.

He declared “the children will be returned to their parents safely. I want to assure you and their parents that.”

He said that a squad of soldiers has been camped at Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area and that he will soon hand over 23 vehicles to enable them operate not only in the kidnap prone areas, but in all other places in the 17 Local Government Areas where there was criminality.

The governor said: “I want to assure you that whether in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo or Rivers once they have been sent packing, they will never return to Abia again, Orji boasted”.

“We are no longer talking amnesty. We are now talking of fire for fire because they (kidnappers) refused to embrace amnesty. We want to show them that this is a government (and) you cannot challenge government.”

80 suspected kidnappers arrested in Delta

FromEMMANUEL OGOIGBE, Warri

Friday, October 01, 2010

Delta State government, on Thursday, set up a combined military task force to rid the state of kidnappers in the wake of the recent abduction of 15 kids by ransom-seekers in Abia State.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who personally inaugurated the team in Warri, Delta State yesterday, warned hoodlums planning to use the state as a safe haven to carry out their criminal activities to turn a new leaf or face the full weight of the law.

Uduaghan affirmed that the action was in response to the recent kidnap of 15 children in Abia State by criminals, stressing that, “the way Nigeria is, once something happens elsewhere people tend to copy it in other places.”

He directed the military to comb the nooks and crannies of the state for known kidnappers and suspects in order to ensure there was no similar incident in the state.
He said, “this is a state that has zero tolerance for kidnapping. We have done it before and we can do it again. We achieved near zero tolerance but right now it is like some persons outside the state who are into kidnapping have sneaked into the state and we are determined to fish them out, whether from this state or outside the state.”

He urged Nigerians to rise up to condemn the Abia State incident, stressing that Nigerians must take steps to prevent its re-occurrence anywhere in the country, adding, that “we don’t want such thing to occur in Delta State.” Although Governor Uduaghan would not disclose the number of persons involved in the operation, he said they were enough to ensure that no kidnap occurred in the state, even as he appealed to communities and members of the public to give the force the needed support to succeed.

He clarified that the operation was aimed at making the state safe for all, adding, “right now, people are afraid of entering public transports. Before they board a taxi they look at the faces and once they see three men they would be afraid and may not take that cab.” Uduaghan differed with those calling for the adoption of capital punishment to deter kidnapping, stressing that apart from failing to stop armed robbers, the sentence has not also prevented kidnapping in states that have adopted the sternest sentence.

Meanwhile, the governor revealed that 80 persons were currently facing trial for kidnapping in the state, adding, “death penalty has not stopped any crime; even in the days of public execution of armed robbers, you still see people robbing while it is going on.” In his reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Alkali, who spoke on behalf of the Commander, Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, Colonel Jarmil Sarham and other heads of security agencies, including the State Security Service, Nigerian Navy and others, commended Uduaghan for taking the bold step.

He said, “we must commend you (governor) for the courage, for your zero tolerance to criminality in this state and we want to assure you that this synergy which has always been here will continue to be here and we will give you the desired result. “It is our responsibility to Nigerians, based on our constitutional callings, to give our environment a conducive atmosphere to the people for the purpose of earning their livelihood.”

In what looked like a replay of Monday’s event in which prominent Igbo leaders were barred from holding a scheduled meeting at the Concorde Hotel, Owerri, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Abuja was on Wednesday prevented from using a public park in Abuja to mark its annual Igbo Day.

Ohanaeze said it was told it would not be allowed to use the Peace Park adjoining the International Conference Centre just hours before the event was billed to kick, despite that it had paid for the venue three weeks earlier.

The Public Relations Officer of the Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA), and past deputy president of Ohanaeze in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Austine Ifedinezi, told Daily Sun that the organizers were told to look elsewhere because First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, was coming to the conference centre to distribute rice to Nigerians.

Ifedineze said all entreaties to the operators of the park fell on deaf ears as they insisted that the event would not take place there while the First Lady’s function was on. He said the idea was to destabilize Ohanaeze.
He wondered why the park operators never cared to inform Ohanaeze of the development until its members had gone to the place ahead of the event and accused them of acting in bad faith.

However, he noted that September 29 was sacrosanct to the Igbo hence it was either the event was marked that day or not at all. According to him, the organizers of the event had to hurriedly look for an alternative arrangement for the event.
