I’m not under pressure to rig 2011 elections –Jonathan

From JULIANA TAIWO, Abuja

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

President Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to a statement credited to the Publicity Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, (CPC), in a nationaldaily (not Daily Sun), alleging that he is under pressure to rig the 2011 elections in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He described it false and illogical.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Ima Niboro, the allegations that Jonathan is “under pressure to give assurance to those canvassing for zoning that he must rig the elections in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party so as to protect the interest of the clique and ensure that (General Muhammadu) Buhari does not win the presidential vote,” is an attempt to pre-judge the outcome of the meeting.

According to him, “ this claim is false outrightly and even illogical. It is an attempt to pre-judge the forthcoming elections before the fact and we would have ignored it but for the high premium the President places on conducting free, fair and credible elections in 2011.We want to make it abundantly clear that the President is under no pressure whatsoever over the 2011 elections. He has made it clear that there will be credible elections next year, and so far has taken decisive steps to actualise this vision.

“The President has appointed a leadership for the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), which has been hailed locally and internationally. He has given unequivocal support to the agency in its search for the most viable strategy to achieve excellent delivery of the next elections, and has told INEC leadership publicly that no one has ‘tied their hands’, and therefore ‘there is no excuse for failure’.

“We find it strange for anyone to be talking about rigging at this time of our political evolution, for, those days are gone, they are dead and buried! The President urges all Nigerians to join hands with INEC to ensure that in the next elections, our votes count. Nigerians must speak with one voice and defend their votes. It is a new day. Let us forge ahead with new hope, a new vision and a new way of doing things!”

Politics300 Ex-militants In Second Batch Can’t Read, Write by chyz(op): 1:12am On Aug 10, 2010
300 ex-militants in second batch can’t read, write

Monnday, August 9, 2010

National Chairman of the Foundation for Ethnic Harmony in Nigeria (FEHN), Mr. Allen Onyeama, has disclosed that over 300 out of the 670 ex-militants currently undergoing training at their Obubra camp, Cross River state, cannot read and write.

Onyeama, whose organization is coordinating the training, however, said that those who cannot read and write during examination were given oral intensive examination that lasted for three hours.

Thirty-nine out of the 670 repentants in the first batch failed the training exercise.

The second batch of repentant militants, who have been at Obubra since Sunday, August 1, 2010, received tutorials on non-violence transformational examination under a serene academic-like environment. Onyeama said the FEHN certificate and the Federal Government certificate will formally demobilize them.

Disclosing this to newsmen at the training camp, shortly after the first set rounded off their examination, he said successful trainees would be issued with certificates accordingly. The coordinator, however, explained that both the written and oral examinations were the same except that those who could read and write had to give verbal explanations or answers to the questions.

He said the repentant militants were taken through several courses like power of listening, value clarification, what is violence, types of conflict (intensity of conflict), the six principles of non-violence which is the stage of getting transformed and several others.

The FEHN boss said these courses were very important and relevant to the transformation of the ex-militants.

He said after the non-violence transformational training and their certification on Saturday, they would go into mentoring to enable the consultants assess their preferences and skills of choice and classify them accordingly before they move to the next level.

Expressing happiness at the training, one of the ex-militants, Ojimomoh Ojiyvowi, from Delta State, said “before we were playing guns, now we are playing non-violence. We want to make love and peace our our goal so that our country can be developed.”

Ojiyvowi, who was one of the leaders of the defunct Niger Delta Liberation Movement Camp, further said, “ this programme will make us better people for the country. We were here to gain something and we have gained it; as we go into the society, we would be teachers to others. Non violence is a way of life we should all lead.”

Christianity EtcRe: ANTI - CHRIST by chyz(m): 6:26am On Aug 09, 2010
THE ANTI-CHRIST is not one particular. there is alot of anti-christ they even had them in the Bible during the times the prophets were still alive. Anti-christ is anyone against christ and who doesnt believe that Jesus is of God. There are many of those today. In Judaism, they are anti-christ, all of them. Im not saying all jews because some are Messianic Jews, they believe in christ. But those who practice judaism are against christ and deny everything about him and reject him as someone sent from God. They are anti-christs. Pagans and atheists are also anti-christ. So Anti-christ is not one particular person thats going to come from hell and try to rule the world, you cannot just point him out its people and you will know each person by their demeanor.
Christianity EtcRe: Is The Holy Spirit A Personal Sentient Being? by chyz(m): 6:14am On Aug 09, 2010
The Holy Spirit is not a being. Its not something that will just come out of nowhere in a church service or mosque and make you shake around and "speak in tongues". Having the holy spirirt simply means that youve refrained from doing evil and everything that is against the command of God.Once youve done that and which is following Gods command/word your spirit is now clean and holy. Thats what holy spirit means. dont let others fool you.

Also, if you actually take time and read the Bible instead of flipping it open once in a while and just picking any verse and start reading it, you would understand that there were jews from different land and each had their own language(native tongue). Some traveled to a place outside of their land and could speak the language of the people whos land they were going to along with their own language. In the other land they often met people from home and became close with them.whenever people from the land that they were in were plotting against one of them then they would speak in there own tongue(language) so that the plotters/devils couldnt hear/understand what they were saying. That is what speaking in tongues means. All of that nonsense that people in the church do is not real. They may make themselves believe that they were speaking in "tongues" but its all nonsense. READ YOUR BIBLE!
PoliticsRe: Ribadu To Declare His Intention To Run For President by chyz(op): 5:32am On Aug 09, 2010
Great news. If Ribadu runs, jonathan can forget it! As the times go on and by GJ's actions hes starting to seem kind of shady. One would wonder why Ribadu would run for presidency when jonathan brought him back into the playing field but its not about scratching backs its about the nigeria people period.

Ribadu To Declare His Intention To Run For President

Posted: August 9, 2010 - 04:50

SaharaReporters, New York

Saharareporters has learned that former chair of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Nuhu Ribadu is on the cusp of declaring his intention to run for the office of the Nigerian presidency.

“The announcement of Nuhu’s candidacy will come any moment from now,” an authoritative source knowledgeable about the political development told Saharareporters exclusively.

Ribadu returned to Nigeria recently and took part in a high profile seminar organized by the National Association of Seadogs also known as Pyrates Fraternity.

Several sources told our correspondents that the former EFCC boss had been quietly holding meetings and consultations with politicians and political interests in different parts of the country.

“Ribadu has met with different groups in Kano, Kaduna, Lagos and Port Harcourt,” said one source, adding, “he has received great encouragement to run.”

During his first visit to Nigeria since going into a brief exile during the administration of the late Nigerian ruler Umaru Yar’adua, Ribadu reportedly visited with the wife and family of the deceased ruler to commiserate with them over his death.

“Each time Ribadu visited Nigeria, numerous politicians, labor leaders, student groups and even traditional rulers asked him to present himself as a candidate,” said one source. “A number of political parties also expressed interest in fielding him or mobilizing support for him,” said a former member of the House of Representatives who is aware of the ongoing political calculus.

Saharareporters sources indicated that Ribadu’s consultations with groups within Nigeria had now reached a critical point. “He is likely to declare his presidential bid within the next two or three weeks,” disclosed a source.

Our sources further revealed that Ribadu had already set up two presidential campaign offices in Lagos and Abuja and recruited some energetic and skilled staff to run the offices.

Among his campaign staff are his former Chief of Staff at the EFCC, Dapo Olorunyomi, and Chido Onumah who once headed Fix Nigeria, a civil society organ of the EFCC. Other campaign staff include Ms. Najatu Mohammed, a female political activist, and Ike Okonta, who is an author and prolific columnist. Our sources also indicated that some graduate students have signed up to work on his campaign.

Saharareporters learned that Ribadu is likely to run on the ticket of the Action Congress party. One source said that the AC had asked Mr. Babafemi Ojudu, a well-known journalist and political activist, to help coordinate Ribadu's campaign.

Our sources said Ribadu was scheduled to meet with AC party leaders at the Lagos State Government House in Ikeja to finalize arrangements to enable the former EFCC chair to be the party’s presidential candidate.

One source told our correspondent, “Ribadu's popularity would go beyond the AC party,” adding “several parties have reached out to him to show support for his bid.”

Ribadu has recently made strong political speeches in Kaduna, Kano and Lagos enjoining youths to wrest power from the old guards.

One of his campaign staffers said that Ribadu would soon launch an interactive website. The source added that Ribadu intends to “rely heavily on grassroots funding to defeat the ‘old order’ that has held Nigeria down for decades.”
