Abacha was a good president. Just because yorubas were getting dealt with because of their senseless acts doesn't mean we should follow them and hate Abacha. This were in much better condition during Abacha's time.

It's funny that Jonathan's advisors are out to make him look like a fool but he is still yet to notice. The Federal University of Agriculture,Umudike was changed the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike back in 2000. If anything Obasanjo would be the one to thank neing that he was president at the time. What a fraudulent move by the Jonathan Administraton.smh.

Unilag: Jonathan writes NASS to ratify name

ABUJA—PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, sent a bill to the Senate and the House of Representatives seeking endorsement to rename the University of Lagos, UNILAG to Moshood Abiola University, Lagos.

It would be recalled that Jonathan had in his Democracy Day broadcast changed the name of University of Lagos to its new name, Moshood Abiola, in recognition of the late politician and business icon’s role in entrenching democracy especially against the backdrop that he died in the course of fighting for democracy.

Also included in the Bill for Acts to rename three universities by the President were the change of the Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike to Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and Federal University of Technology, Yola to Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola.

The letter which was read at the plenary by Senate President David Mark stated: “I forward here with, for your kind consideration and passage into law, the attached Bills for Acts to rename three Federal Universities as indicated below.

“Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike to Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; Federal University of Technology, Yola to Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola and University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University, Lagos.

“It is my hope that the Distinguished Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will consider and pass these Bills in your usual expeditious manner.”

Also yesterday, President Jonathan sent to the Senate a Bill for an Act to amend the Public procurement Act, No.14,2007.

The President also, yesterday, forwarded to the Senate a Bill for an Act to provide for the enforcement and punishment of crimes against humanity, war crimes, genocide and related offences, 2012.

In the letter to Senate President Mark, President Jonathan said, ‘’I hereby introduce for the kind consideration and enactment into law by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, A Bill for an Act to Provide for the Enforcement and Punishment of Crimes Against Humanity, War Crimes, Genocide and Related Offences, 2012.

‘’While I hope that the Bill will receive the usual prompt attention of the Distinguished members of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”

Shield who from what? SHe has nothing to do with what happened. We can all agree that she is the best Aviation ministerin a very long while. If anything, she would have to watch out for jonathan making her an escape goat for his wife's actions which caused the accident.

Beaf: Abiola's greatest legacy is the democracy we are now enjoying.

But as a Cameroonian immigrant, what would you know about democracy anyway? Paul Biya has been sitting on your heads for like 30 years.
Here in Nigeria, we value our MKO.
Shut your dirty mouth you opportunist. Abiola brought democracy to whom? You are here talking about democracy(for the people,by the people) yet your Oga disregarded the people completely, and still is, when it came to the renaming of UNILAG. That is a dictorial move.

Think abt it brother. He's trying to make it seem as if he is immortilizing former regional leaders. If M.I>. Okpara has already been immortilized through a university then it defeats the purpose and reveals that jonathan is just trying to fix his screw up.

PoliticsRe: 16 MASSOB Members Killed, 83 Injured, 500 Arrested In Raid Of MASSOB Offices ! by Chyz2(op): 5:09pm On Jun 06, 2012
PointB: Succinctly put.

On the other hand, I hope this is not some grand design by some Boko Haram element in GEJ government to draw us into another needless blood letting. Quite frankly, it is very callous and cowardly gun down unarmed men for whatever reasons. If this should continue, I would like for MASSOB to discard the non-violence garb, arm themselves to the teeth, and open another front against the Nigeria security apparatus. They can start by burning police stations, and attacking military check points and formation. I strongly think, someone wants to help the boko bastard in the grand scheme of making Nigeria ungovernable. If GEJ, the C-in-C, cannot put a leash on his boys, and understand where he derives power from, why should we care if Nigeria explodes in his watch?
MASSOB should be protested against by all Igbo civilians. They do nothing but cause Igbo death in order to use it as a record to gain some so-called biafran dream. bunch of selfish losers(the leaders of the group i mean).
PoliticsRe: 16 MASSOB Members Killed, 83 Injured, 500 Arrested In Raid Of MASSOB Offices ! by Chyz2(op): 5:06pm On Jun 06, 2012
Onlytruth: Ok. Here is my take.

I have been shouting myself hoarse that MASSOB is not doing Igbo much good by their stratagems. I have been called all sorts of names by some of my brothers for that, but I still have to state the truth.

We Ndigbo are a peculiar tribe (let me not use "special" because of envy) in Nigeria. People envy us and covet us even for some of the most simple things. They plan to kill us at the slightest reason. Nigeria's history is replete with unnecessary shedding of Igbo blood for one stoopid reason or another. Therefore, we are not supposed to live our lives in ways that give our enemies ANY CHANCE WHATSOEVER to come into Igboland to kill us. Because of that, I have always thought that MASSOB's non-violence doctrine is stoopid. I did not say that it cannot work elsewhere o. All I'm saying is that it will not work for us Ndigbo because there are too many haters in Nigeria wanting to kill us. Therefore the time has come for Uwazuruike to either ship MASSOB out of Igboland, or go learn how to earn Nigerian respect.

It is irresponsible to be leading hordes who get killed willy nilly in Igboland. These are peoples brothers, husbands, fathers and sons.
I am also watching what the so called Igbo leaders both in and out of government will say about this (seemingly)unprovoked mass murder right in the heart of Igboland.

I would always advise Igbo folks to stay away from MASSOB until their Modus Operandi is sanitized enough else they will die for nothing.

You want to invent similarities between idoma and igbo so as to claim territory and political power that you will never get.
The is absolutely NO connection between Idoma and Hausa. As for the words, go back and read your statement. Talking abt political power, the Idoma have no political power so what are you talking about? Please dont get ahead of yourselves. The Tivs even rule you people in your own state. Forget similarities between Igbo and Idoma any body will notice it when they come across them. The connect is even deeper than similarities it is also by blood. Go learn your history.

Police arrest suspected OPC leader

By EVELYN USMAN

IKEJA—Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, said it had arrested a suspected leader of the outlawed Odua Peoples Congess, OPC, over Monday’s attack on a congregation of Hausa in the Idi-Araba area of the state.

The invaders, it was gathered, attacked the worshippers with broken bottles, cutlasses and other weapons during their evening pray

The attack may however, not be unconnected with the attack of Southerners in the northern parts of the country.

Residents of Idi-Araba, Vanguard learnt, fled their homes to avoid a repeat of the February 2002 ethnic conflict between the Yoruba and Hausa, which led to loss of lives and wanton destruction of property .

Spokesman for the Command, Mr Joseph Jaiyeoba, who confirmed the arrest, added that policemen were on ground and patrolling the area while efforts were on to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.

”Investigation is in progress at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba.”

16 killed, 83 injured as security operatives raid MASSOB offices

Wednesday, 06 June 2012 00:00 From Uzoma Nzeagwu , Awka. News - National

A COMBINED team of the police, army and other security operatives yesterday killed about 16 members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and injured 83 others as they raided the offices of the group in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State and its environs.

Also arrested during the raid that lasted from Monday night to yesterday morning were over 500 members of the group, including women at different locations in the state.

The MASSOB National Director of Information and the Onitsha Region Four Administrator, Uchenna Madu and Chief Arinze Igbani, who briefed reporters over the incident, declared that the raid on their offices by the security operatives was unwarranted and provocative, saying that it was a renewed plot by the army to resume a systematic clampdown on MASSOB.

Madu said : “At about 5 p.m., a detachment of security operatives, numbering over 50, allegedly broke into MASSOB office along ‘Pam Pam’ lane at the Onitsha Main Market. They vandalized the office, set the Biafran flag ablaze and then ordered all those in the neighbourhood to lie down in the flood.”

He also alleged that the team invaded MASSOB’s central office along Kilometre Seven , Owerri Road, Onitsha where a security meeting of the movement was holding and opened fire on the people, arresting and killing some of the members on the spot. The team also allegedly made away with the bodies of the dead persons.

The MASSOB leaders urged the immediate and unconditional release of all its members that were arrested or they be arraigned in court.

They also urged security operatives to stop further attacks on MASSOB offices, and that they should respect the sanctity of the Biafran flag.

“MASSOB is non-violent, we have assisted the security operatives in fishing out criminals especially in Onitsha where we have handed over 15 notorious armed robbers and car snatchers to the police”, he said.

They appealed to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Azubike Ihejirika and the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar to call their men to order, suggesting that the state Commissioner of Police and the Onitsha 302 Army Commander should always contact the MASSOB leaders whenever they thought they were going beyond control.

When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Emeka Chukwuemeka, confirmed the operation but noted that he was yet to be officially briefed on the number of arrests and casualties recorded.

Yes, the "nation" has been morning EVERY DAMN DAY! The only means of comfort your boss can seem to come up with is "Condemnation" or "Prayer". He is a president for god's sake. Does he not have more power than the average person or begger on the road? The deaths of people are regarded as a regular thing. This is disgusting. PoliticsRe: Ndigbo: What Projects Have Our Federal Representatives Brought To Igboland? by Chyz2: 7:04pm On Jun 01, 2012
Onlytruth: This question has bugged my mind for weeks and months now. It has got to the stage that I cannot sleep well at nights while pondering this question. I remember vividly how we lobbied (at least added our voices) to the appointment of Anyim Pius Anyim to the position of Secretary to the Federal Government. There are such other Igbo personalities now as Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and others. I would not be exaggerating if I say that we hold strategic positions in this government.

Why is Enugu International Airport "upgrade" looking like a glorified hen house project?
Why didn't the Federal Government include Enugu as one of the international airports to be concessioned alongside Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt?
Is it that Igbo heartlands must continue to be denied international access or something more sinister?

These PDP Igbo Federal officials should tell us what projects (any project at all) they have attracted to the SE. They are there because we voted for Jonathan.
As for Jonathan, unless he is not going to need Igbo votes again, he should take this personally.
This continued marginalization of Igboland, even with Igbo sons/daughters in strategic Federal positions should give us reason and pause for thorough introspection. I hate PDP (not that APGA has impressed me too much but it is still better than PDP in defending Igbo interests in Nigeria) for this reason. If any Igbo thinks that I'm wrong for hating PDP, he should come here and put forward a contrary view; let the readers decide. It is not enough that your local PDP governor may be working. It is time we start thinking COLLECTIVELY for our survival in Nigeria. If we cannot survive in Nigeria by confronting the local challenges, how can we survive out of Nigeria by confronting international challenges?

So, let's answer this question honestly.

Here I stand.

Signed,

Onlytruth, ndu di n'eziokwu 1 of Igboland, Eze Ndigbo Nairaland. cool cool cool
Brother, I hope you now understand why I've been throwing dirty on jonathan. He is not in it for us. The projects such as Enugu having an international airport, 2nd niger bridge, and a seaport will never be completed and fully functional but will instead be used as a bargaining tool for jonathan's presidency in 2015. I will not say to much, and dont ask how i know, but Jonathan and some PDP rascals are working on bringing forth a candidate, who is of Urhobo origion, as the PDP candidate for Governor of Delta state for the 2015 election, it is not Great Ovedje Ogboru btw. He is no different than the rest. The Minister of Aviation has nothing to do with why Ibiam Airport was not included in the upgrades. She could only take orders. But, this doesn't mean she cant make noise but she would also need the SE political idiots* to back her.

souldust: idoma and igbos are not one and never be one! It cannot happen lai lai.
You talked about okloboia and ada but let me tell you that there more hausa influences in idoma than there are igbo similarities. What about the following names and words: usman, aladi(sunday), yakubu, yahaya, audu, ademu(adamu), alemu(orange), sule, yunisa, waaka(uwanka), etc

the name ada is purely an igbo name. We bear it becos some part of our teritory shares boundry with Egbor and that boundry is the shortest we have with any of our neighbours. As a result of our geograhical closeness, we sometimes do have friends from that area and later decided to name or children after our igbo friends.

NB: we also bear abu. Now that doesnt sound like igbo does it? The names and words i mentioned earlier have connections with hausa not igbo!

So get it into your skwii; idoma and egbor are far apart the only relationship is the short, very short boundry we have
befor i forget. Those names i mentioned are not only answered by the idoma muslims but also by idomas who do not have anything to do with islam. They are names of my relatives.
No Idomas do not have more in common with the hausa than the Igbo. Hausa land is nowhere near Idomaland so get your facts straight. Those names you mentioned are not HAUSA names but muslim names. Please behave yourself and go pick up a book and read.
