S’ East economic commission inaugurates legal committee DENNIS AGBO 23/03/2012 07:10:00 The South East Nigeria Economic Commission (SENEC) took a further step towards realising its objectives with the inauguration of the legal Sub-committee by the chairman of its steering committee, Engr. Chris Okoye. The 18-member Legal Sub-committee is headed by Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), with representatives of the Attorney Generals of the five South East states, chairmen of the judiciary committees in the five Houses of Assembly in the zone and other prominent legal practitioners from the zone as members. Inaugurating the committee, Okoye said its primary duty is to help transform SENEC into a world class organisation. It is also expected to look at SENEC’s structure and draft practical legal instruments consistent with the commission’s proposed organogram and its mission as a privately-run, but publicly-minded, entity. SENEC was conceived in 2006 as an economic body for the South East with value proposition that will bring public, private and community partners together to tap into the common untapped potentials of the zone in an intergovernmental and interstate manner but solely driven by the private sector. http://www.nationalmirroronline.net/news/34922.html |

Im suspecting Oby Ekwesili and Okonjo Iweala already worked this thing out along with GEJ. She may have stepped down to take up Iweala's position while Iweala prepares to go and seat for World Bank president. It's a win-win situation for nigeria if this is the case. |

15 feared killed in fresh Fulani, Tiv farmers clash. Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:00 From Charles Akpeji, Jalingo News - National THE feud between the Fulani and the Tiv farmers in Takum Local Council of Taraba State raged on yesterday as no fewer than 15 persons, including a policeman were reported killed in a fresh clash. According to an eyewitness, property worth millions of naira were destroyed by the warring factions in villages, which include Demavaa, Dooshima, Ayu, Agbaaye and New Gboko. Attempt by the state government to bring the crisis, which has been on for over two months, under control recently led to the arrest and detention of five village heads. Before they regained freedom, the arrested village heads were charged to ensure peace in their domain alongside security agents at the local council. But the people have refused to sheath their swords and give room for peace to reign. Confirming the fresh clash, the Police Commissioner, Mamman Sule, through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ibiang Mbaseki, said, “on receiving the information of the crisis between the Fulani and the farmers, a unit of mobile policemen led by ASP Pius Sunday was deployed to the area.” The information received by the command, according to him, “was that a large group of Fulani militants putting on police and military uniform had invaded New Gboko in Takum Local Council of Taraba State.” To rescue the inhabitants, the unit of armed mobile policemen proceeded to the village, but met stiff opposition from the Fulani who, according to him, “set the entire village ablaze.” “They succeeded in killing one police corporal. They were armed with more sophisticated riffles, including AK47 and they were all dressed in military and mobile policemen uniform.” The body of the killed policeman, he said, had been deposited in a morgue. As at the time of filing in this report, the unabated crisis had compelled the authority to immediately deploy both the military and mobile police personnel to the warring zone. The PPRO said, “another team of army and police officers has been redeployed for re-enforcement.” Though the police could not ascertain the actual number of death, the PPRO confirmed that several people died. “We are still trying to confirm the numbers of death,” he said. It was learnt that those who sustained injuries are now receiving medical treatment at various hospitals. It was also gathered that Katsina-Ala Local Council in Benue State and other neighbouring local councils in Taraba State are presently playing host to many people who fled the warring communities. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=80634:15-feared-killed-in-fresh-fulani-tiv-farmers-clash-&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |
How were they allowed to populate all of the places in such places? Are they intimidating non-hausa not to move there? Why is it that the Hausa are the only one that believe that you should be armed at all time whether at home or abroad? If the hausa are to be removed covertly it would have to be done by goverment in partner with the army. Why are people concerning the igbos with this. Igbos do not bring tribal warfare to any land. We are just not like that. The Igbos and the Yorubas are mixing in lagos. Those who talk nonsense clearly want trouble. Yorubas are living in Igboland Port Harcourt the same way igbos are in lagos but you see no wahala from us. Learn to stop focusing on igbos when these fools attack your land because thats exactly what the tivs continue to do put blame on the igbo while the fulani continue to wipe them out and take their land. |
Hausa, Yoruba clash in Lagos over murdered youth March 20, 2012 by Kunle Falayi Agiliti, Mile 12, Lagos, erupted in violence that lasted for hours on Monday as some Hausa youths clashed with their Yoruba counterparts. PUNCH Metro learnt that the clash, which started around 7am, began when some Hausa youths allegedly attempted to dump the corpse of a man they had reportedly slaughtered in the Maidan River. A man, who declined to give his name, told our correspondent that, “This morning, we were not far from the river when we saw the Hausa youths trying to dump a corpse in the river. We immediately accosted them and demanded to know where they got it from and what happened to the man. The youths told us he was caught during a robbery. “The body showed that the man had been brutally beaten. It was noticed that he had been slaughtered too. So, we asked them why they killed him and why did they not hand him over to the police if he was a robber. “Before we know it, the whole area had been roused and we had been overwhelmed by the Hausa youths. We had to leave the scene after some scuffle.” The youth told our correspondent that the Hausa residents who stayed behind later burnt all motorcycles in sight. When our correspondent got to the scene, a large crowd of youths, who were speaking Hausa, were seen destroying shops and kiosks on three streets in the area. A police helicopter hovered in the sky, while nine police patrol vehicles and a Rapid Response Squad’s Armoured Personnel Carrier were stationed at the scene, but this did not deter the youth from destroying shops. Three streets; Nuhu Oluwo, Oniyanrin and Adeyeye, were completely taken over by the Hausa youth who wielded clubs, pipes and machetes and other weapons while they ransacked every shop on the streets. Some of them broke into a shop, pulled down the door and carried away two air conditioners they found inside. Some of the youth also attempt to pull down the roof of the shops. Our correspondent noticed that they had earlier broken into other shops on the streets. Other youths were seen grabbing loafs of bread in a shop they had broken into. However, some older Hausa men were seen appealing to the youth to stop the violence. A youth who brought out an amulet and wore it on his arm, was told to pocket it, while another man, Alhaji Gambo Limani, slapped a youth who broke a bottle on the ground and wielded it as a weapon. When our correspondent later spoke to Limani, he said, “I had to caution them because most of these youths are hoodlums. They would blow the problem beyond proportion. “I really don’t know the basis for this whole crisis because I just got back from Sokoto this morning. My main concern is to ensure they don’t cause crisis in this area.” When our correspondent asked Limani about the whereabouts of the Sarkin Hausa (head of the Hausa community) of the area, he said the Sarkin had travelled. Our correspondent reports that Oniyarin Street was completely deserted and the majority of the residents locked themselves up in their residences. When asked why the area was deserted, a youth said, “These people (Hausa men) are many in this area. They inhabit most of the houses here. Anybody who has his life to protect should not attempt to go close to that area.” Our correspondent watched from a safe distance as the rampaging youths smashed the windscreen of a bus in the presence of the policemen who made no effort to stop them. The youths spoke in Hausa, occasionally pointing their sticks at the policemen to dare them. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in the state, Mr. Tunde Sobulo, later came to the scene and dispersed the youth. He addressed the policemen and gave them directives on how to man the area. When our correspondent attempted to speak with him, he simply said, “This is operation. I don’t have any comment to make now.” But the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said the police were being cautious because the clash was between two ethnic groups. Jayeoba said, “The police got a report early this morning about a corpse of a man that was allegedly killed in Oniyanrin area of Mile 12. Policemen were quickly drafted to the area to remove the corpse. The clash was due to perenial accusations between the Yoruba and Hausa residents. “In any case, the DCP operations and the area commander have been there to restore peace. The area commander has also invited the heads of the two ethnic groups in the area and all other stakeholders to resolve the issue. Right now the area is calm.” http://www.punchng.com/metro/hausa-yoruba-clash-in-lagos-over-murdered-youth/ |

Ndidi, the only ones avocating for your name change are yorubas. Your husband has now got the girl of his dreams and least allow your parents to keep the name they gave during one of the most precious time in their lives. I think they deserve it. what do you think? |
Ndidi, even if he is willing to change his name to Chukwuemeka don't do it. In Igboland after marriage the female goes to the mans home but the female still belongs to her father's family. Anything concerning you your relatives must be informed. I'm sure you are familiar with that part of our culture. This is another reason why if there is a problem in the marriage be call both families in a meeting to come and sit doen to that both husband and wife can state their case. What he is trying to do is unfair to your future children and the most, grandchildren. If you change you name and accept his last name, family his story will not show you as an Igbo woman, which is wrong. As time goes on the prints on Ndi Igbo in the veins of you decendents will be washed away. Your also learn to love the people(Ndi Igbo) who you are of and not just you. |
All of Kwara is not Yoruba, neither is Ondo so be specific. |
