C’River to ‘repatriate’ Fulani herdsmen March 29, 2012 by Mudiaga Affe 124 Comments Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke says the state government will send back over 3,000 internally displaced Fulani herdsmen camping at Bagga, Besenge and Utanga communities in Obanliku Local Government Area of the state after completing arrangements with their respective state governments. Imoke, who stated this late Tuesday when he visited the internally displaced persons, urged the host communities to accommodate other Nigerians who are in need, “especially those seeking refuge due to unforeseen circumstances”. The internally displaced persons, who have taken refuge in the northern part of the state, are believed to be among those who fled Benue in the wake of the clash between Fulani herdsmen and Tiv groups recently, leading to the loss of many lives and property. While describing the plight of the ‘refugees’ as “unfortunate”, Imoke said the government would discuss the modalities to transport them back home with Benue and Taraba states. He said the State Emergency Management Agency had been directed to attend to the displaced persons by making available for them some relief materials. The governor said government would ensure that tents were also made available for them. He gave the assurance that a detachment of policemen would be deployed there to ensure safety of lives and property. A spokesman for the displaced persons, who spoke through an interpreter Alhaji Yusuf Usman, said they fled their homeland in Takum, Taraba State because of inter-tribal war between the Fulani and the Tiv. He said they initially moved to Katsina Ala in Benue State from where they fled to Obanliku after threats to their lives. Abdullahi appealed t0 the state government to help them go back to their home state, saying they would be accepted by their people. He applauded the state government for supplying foodstuffs, mattresses, mats and blankets. http://www.punchng.com/news/criver-to-repatriate-fulani-herdsmen/[b]C’River to ‘repatriate’ Fulani herdsmen |
This story seems a bit fishy. Why would the fulani flee from Taraba, where their is fulani "land" to Benue, the tiv capital, where there are absolutely no indigenous fulani? Also, the fulanis have been the ones with the upper hand and who have been making the tiv flee, not the other way around. What this looks like is the soldiers importing fulani from wherever to crossrivers to take over that area for some strategic purposes. Cross Rivers must get rid off these fools. |

China may back developing nations’ candidates for W’Bank job . Tuesday, 27 March 2012 00:00 Editor News - National IN a move that could boost the chances of Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, landing the plum job, China yesterday said “the voice of developing countries” must be taken into account when selecting a new leader for the World Bank, amid calls for an end to United States (U.S.) dominance at the global lender. But the BRICS bloc of emerging countries have disclosed they had no plans to unite behind a common candidate to head the World Bank, an Indian foreign ministry official said yesterday. Briefing the media on the agenda of an upcoming meeting of the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS), the official said the grouping simply wanted an “open and merit-based” process. “I have not heard anything so far (about a common candidate),” Sudhir Vyas, the secretary for economic affairs at the foreign ministry, told a media briefing ahead of the BRICS summit on Thursday. Three candidates have put themselves forward to replace outgoing leader Robert Zoellick - including two non-Americans - in what is the first challenge to U.S. monopoly of the Presidency at the global development lender. “The head of the World Bank and other international financial institutions should be selected based on the principles of fairness, openness and transparency,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=81359:china-may-back-developing-nations-candidates-for-wbank-job-&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |
jason123: @OPIts sad how "free education" has not even benefited a roach in your land. If you had reading comprehension skills you can see that the reason he sent the the comments on the site to the UN is to show how divided this country is and how it is filled with hate towards one another. It has nothing to do with which tribe does with. Omo kokotiko |
