Meanwhile, ex Information minister, Dora Akunyili, who lost her bid for a senate seat under APGA, Iyiola Omisore, who lost in Osun under PDP, former Ambassador to Ireland and ex Aviation minister, Kema Chikwe and former presidential aide, Florence Ita-Giwa, are currently using all available contacts to push for a slot in the new cabinet. Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo is also angling to endure his vanquished daughter, Iyabo, nails a spot. Pointblanknew.com sources at the presidential retreat in Obudu, Cross River State, hinted that the party also resolved to zone the Speaker's position to the south east. The downside is, incumbent deputy senate president, Ike Ekeremadu, who is from Enugu, would have to relinquish his exalted position. advertisement However, Pointblanknews.com learnt that the arrangement is not cast in stone as the national caucus would have to ratify it. The south west looks good to produce the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, while the North East picks the chairman. It was however no clear which zone would fill the deputy senate president, and deputy speaker slots. Pointblanknews.com sources hinted that the president and his men brainstormed all Tuesday and Wednesday night on how to compensate the south east for the overwhelming support during the presidential election. On Mark, it was learnt that the president was advised to retain him for continuity, and also considering the fact that Jonathan was victorious in Benue, even though marginally. Mark who has a committee working arduously for his return, has spent millions of naira on his return bid. Frontliners for the Speaker's seat are Bethel Amadi, Arua Arunsi and Emeka Ihedioha. The parliamentary caucus , made up of 43 legislators from the south east zone, rose from a crucial meeting on Wednesday and demanded that it would only accept the position of Speaker or Senate President. Pointblanknews.com learnt that most of the PDP candidates who lost elections have intensified lobbying to secure relevance in the next cabinet. Top sources hinted that Akunyili who lost to ACN's Chris Ngige and Chikwe who lost to APGA's Chris Ayanwun , and Omisore are also angling to be ministers. It was learnt that Akunyili and Ita Giwa are using Mrs Patience Jonathan to prevail on the President who views Akunyili as ungrateful. http://www.pointblanknews.com/News/os4892.html |
No one is voting for Ohakim but YOU(Poster with multiple IDs). |
The way you've(OP) come with different IDs, shows us why Ohakim is your man. You're both frauds. |
I like this move. I see their strategy. It points at getting the Speaker of Reps position. We all know that one of the northern zones are going to get the Senate President position, more than likely David Mark is going to retain it which is great for us. If David Mark retains his position then we keep the Deputy position plus we get the Speaker position. Hopefully the SE plays the game well. They've got SS caucus support. NC would benefit from a SE alliance.Things looking pretty good. |
ChinenyeN:We're basically saying the same thing. The thing that I'm most curious about is the label of "Ikwerre" as an area. It's not foreign to me that a group can be given the nickname of there own town. What i want to know is if at a point, the Iwhuruoha people came together to carve the area of their kinsmen, to prevent expansion of neighboring groups into their land, and came up with a common name of the area called "Ikwerre". It would kind of explain the name "Ikwere"-"Do you agree/You agree". Sounds like a consensus call of those involved. I will check thoe people you mentioned out though. P.S. Don't take it that I don't value your comments. . .The more you're pushed the more info you give which is what I want. Helps me. That is why i do what I do. Kinda helps fill in the blanks with less of a hastle. ![]() |

All is not well with education in Ekiti, says Fayemi By Miriam Ndikanwu 3 hours 41 minutes ago Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi yesterday said all was not well with the education sector at all levels. He lamented the decaying infrastructure, poor quality of teaching, low morale of teachers, lack of effective monitoring and evaluation, inadequate funding, policy changes, among others. Fayemi spoke at Adetiloye Hall in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, at the opening session of the 2011 Ekiti State Education Summit. He said: "One does not require the skills of a clairvoyant or a rocket scientist to realise that all is not well with our education sector in the state. "It was this challenging state of the sector that informed our decision to inaugurate a 15-member Task Force and Visitation Panel on Education on January 10, with a charge to recommend workable solutions. "All these brought the state to a saddening level of poor performances in public examinations at all levels while many of the products of the institutions in the state parade low scholarship. "As a product of Ekiti scholarship, this decadent level of our education forces one to recall with nostalgia that not too long ago, Ekiti was often better identified as a bookish state. We had more professors than any homogenous entity in the country." Commissioner for Education Mrs. Eniola Ajayi said the purpose of the summit was to proffer practical and lasting solutions to all the problems facing the sector. Professor Akin Oyebode of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG) said the decay was a result of perennial neglect by past administrations. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/5124-all-is-not-well-with-education-in-ekiti-says-fayemi.html |
Beaf:WOW, I laugh at how bad they try to keep things in place that they can use against other regions to get what they want. The simply want to keep the keep the same NYSC scheme in order to use it as a tool by killing southerners whenever they are unhappy and getting what they want. If clear that if southern corpers are deployed to verious southern states, the northerns would have less to kill and make less of an uproar when rioting again. Funny and evil people. |

nwaigbo_mg: abagoro:Who is right between the two? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivers_state Ikwerre was an area, not the name of a tribe up until they were given the label of a separate group from the people known as "Igbo". Iwhuruoha seems to be their so-called "clan", at least that's how I see it. But of course, this can always be proven wrong by olf documents kept by british durring the 1800-early 1900s. If any have some documents or links please feel free to post. |

Date Published: 05/04/11 Boko Haram, Jos, Post-Election Violence Suspects disappear in police custody There are strong indications that most of the suspects arrested in connection with Boko Haram sects in Maiduguri, Minna, Bauchi States and Jos ethno-religious crisis as well as the recent post-election violence which erupted in some parts of Northern Nigeria during the just concluded elections may have regained freedom or disappeared in their various Police custodies across the states. Similarly, a Police officer Ibrahim Mohammed serving at the Mobile Police Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja that was arrested while participating in killing people in Jos during one of the crisis may have also been released, demobilize from Mobile unit and transferred to one of the interior part of the country. According to inside Police sources who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the over 92 suspects arrested in Maiduguri, Borno State Capital following the mindless killing and destruction of lives and properties by Boko Haram sects in March this year, less than 10 of them are now left in Police custody. It was gathered that the Nigeria Police leadership in collaboration with some fanatical judges after taking the suspects to courts under them releases them in the name of granting them bail or total freedom on grounds of lack of evidences. Pointblanknews.com further gathered that in March this year, the situation became worrisome that the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Maiduguri branch protested the released of some suspects who came back and be boosting that they are untouchables and BAR vowed to challenge same in other courts. It gathered also that the same thing happened in other places where the Boko Haram sect’s members were arrested. Places like Minna, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, amongst others that have witnessed violent attacks by the sects. That all the suspects are either granted bail or disappeared one after the other. On Jos ethno-religious crisis, over 200 suspects were initially said to have moved from Jos to Abuja last year but that about 162 were Okayed for trial according the source but that up till now no one can exactly tell of where about those people and that it is reasonably suspected to have in the usual manner, either disappeared or granted bail or released on lack of sufficient evidences. In the same vein, that about 90 suspects again was arrested this year whom were suspected to be Fulani herdsmen and were to made to face trial but that the where about of the suspects are unknown. “I served in the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja. We handled all these cases. I sometimes felt disappointed by what our bosses do. Cases like these; we don’t do what it supposed to be done. See, most of these people arrested, once they charge them to court, it is finished. The court will say take them for remand in police custody and that will be the end. On the recent violence that erupted immediately after the Presidential elections where many lives and properties were destroyed in some parts of Northern Nigeria, and that about 109 suspects arrested in Kano, 600 in Adamawa and several others in Katsina, Minna, Kaduna amongst others, the story is not different according to our source. He said most of the suspects were screened and released following “directives from above”. The source said those suspects are release in batches and in some cases, they move them under the guise of taking them to another cell in another station or taking them to court. “They come back and said they have been sent to prison custody or granted bail and will be the end. “Have Nigerians one day asked that since these entire crisis upon crisis, how many of them are in prison? Nobody cares that’s why I say we should not blame only the police or the judiciary. The Police have not been held accountable for the cases and criminals in their custody. I am an insider and I know what goes on. They arrest criminals most at times through information made available to them through the citizens but they don’t follow up after arrest and that is why the criminals kept proliferating. The police know all the judges in court. The Police charges criminals to courts of their choice that is depending the type of judgments they want. Your boss tells you which court to go and before you arrive, he is aware so there is nothing we want”, he narrated. http://www.pointblanknews.com/News/os4890.html |
