sjeezy8:Are you having a laugh? The US military? You think the US military will come and get involved in Nigeria - on top of Iraq and Afghanistan? ROTFLMHO I don't think you really understand how fed up American citizens are of that war in Iraq and afghanistan ALREADY!!!! No way are they tolerating their President sending the US military into any more foreign war zones. |
NIGERIA IS HEADED THE WAY OF YUGOSLAVIA Nigeria is heading the way of Yugoslavia and will inevitably split into 6 or even 7 separate nation states. I fear bloodbath and tragedy - so many have already suffered and died as it is. BLOODSHED MUST BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. NO MORE BLOODSHED PLEASE! The only peaceful solution is to give the Nigerian people the right to decide their own destiny, in the form of a referendum. The referendum must be free, honest, fair and open to the rigours of international observation and supervision. Whatever the people decide in this referendum must be OBEYED. Those regions that vote for breakaway (if any do) must be allowed to do so non-violently and without reprisal. The regions that vote to remain with Nigeria must also be allowed to remain with Nigeria. It is the only solution THE PEOPLE MUST BE OBEYED!!! |
cap28:Yaaaaaaawn I'm really getting tired of Nigerians blaming the White man (West) for all their shortcomings and failures. It is getting really tired. How come the white man does not seek to sabotage the asians such as singapore, malaysia etc. Those countries got their independence from Britain AFTER African countries like Nigeria and yet they have progressed so much and left us waaaaaaaaaay behind |
I started a thread about this called REFERENDUM - NIGERIA'S ONLY SOLUTION https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-425038.0.html |
Onlytruth:Only Truth Read my answer again. I am agreeing with you. I think Biafra WOULD HAVE SUCEEDED if Ojukwu had held a referendum. The Igbos would have voted 99.999% to join, and the Ikwerre vote and Calabar vote would also have been very high too - probably in the high 70s/80s. Don't forget there was a lot of pogrom going on in the north where Igbos and other south-easterners were getting slaughtered and had to flee back to the south to save their lives. So the YES vote would definitely have been overwhelming and Biafra would definitely be in existence today. The ijaws would most likely have voted no, and so would not have been part of Biafra. That's ok - they are entitled to decide their own destiny. And I do believe that Biafra would have easily been the most economically succesful country in all of Africa - not just west africa |
Me sef:I agree with you - but I fear Ojukwu blew our one and only chance. You see, what Ojukwu tried to achieve was right but they way he went about it was completely wrong. He should have held a REFERENDUM for the entire area that he called "Biafra" and allowed each of the various districts within this Biafra to vote on whether they wanted to be part of Biafra or would rather prefer to remain with Nigeria. Instead he tried to force non-igbo tribes (such as Ijaw) to be part of Biafra against their will. If Ojukwu had given the Biafran area the referendum the following would have happened: 1) The Ijaws would have probably voted to remain with Nigeria rather than be part of Biafra - which is perfectly fine as they are entitled to make that choice. And because they are being allowed to remain with Nigeria (opt out of Biafra) they would not have felt the need to spill their blood fighting against Biafra. They would have stayed neutral because they were not being forced to join Biafra. But because Ojukwu was trying to force them to join Biafra against their will, they had no choice but to fight. So Ojukwu just made himself one very powerful enemy when there was no need to. And they still resent Igbos for this till this very day. 2) With a referendum, only those districts that vote to be part of Biafra with at least a 66% YES vote would be allowed to join Biafra. That would have given the Biafran cause a lot of democratic clout and credibility in the eyes of the western super-powers such as USA, UK, etc. Britain would not have been so keen to support Gowon with military weapons if Biafra had the democratic authority of the ballot box behind it. Britain has a reputation to protect and cannot afford to be seen as the suppressor of democracyand so they would not have given Gowon the military equipment and support. But Ojukwu did not play his cards right and I fear that we may have lost the only chance we were ever going to have. ![]() |
I too have come to the conclusion that Nigeria will split. I only hope it is done bloodlessly https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-424748.0.html |
I too have come to the conclusion that Nigeria needs to break up. Read this below for the most peaceful way forward https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-424748.0.html |
This is getting beyond a joke |

It is these kinds of threads that causes dark skinned women to feel bad. Treat all skin shades equally http://www.lifeinbiglondon.com/2010/02/27/i-hate-being-a-black-woman/ |
Yar'adua is taking serious liberties. He should have resigned a long time ago http://www.lifeinbiglondon.com/forum/topic.php?id=26 |

Yes, but now this is the second time the woman is having to go abroad and study. And don't forget there is a 5 year old child involved as well. The first time was when she went to the UK to do her masters. This time she wants to go to the USA to do PHd. |
If your man asked you to choose between him and pursuing your studies, which would you choose? http://www.lifeinbiglondon.com/2010/03/06/torn-between-my-fiance-and-college/ |
hackney:Abi Oh! Hackney, thank you bo jare, my brother. |
chika98:Cynical? What makes me cynical? Did you read the beginning of my post. I clearly stated that I did not agree with the woman bleaching her skin so you can't assume that I agree with everything the woman wrote in her letter. That's making far too many assumptions. The writer of the letter may be cynical - it doesn't mean that I am. |
disturbia:Well said, disturbia That is the kind of postive contribution I was hoping for rather than the typically abusive responses that seem to be so common on this forum. Well Done. |
zerocool:I'm really sorry, but you can't start a sentence with "Of". Your sentence should start with: "What use is it " |
tpiah:Are you from a scientific/medical background? The question about whether Black women are biologically predisposed to obesity was directed towards forum members of a scientific/medical background. I would love to hear from them as to whether there is any truth in that claim - I have actually heard it said many times but I don't know if it is medical fact or myth. But I do agree with you that she has some serious psychological problems - bleaching and skin lightening. |
zerocool:Who cares whether you care or not! Move on right along to a topic that you do care about. We won't miss you. ByeBye. |
y me:Shebi oh. That's exactly what I was thinking. But she is arguing that she finds it too difficult to lose weight because Black women are biologically programmed to be fat. ![]() Any medical/scientific people on this forum - is this true? Do Black women really have a biological "predispostion" towards obesity? |
