Good day all,

Can anyone help with the current unit price of casement windows (Bulgarly proof with net embedded) with these specifications;

Tower aluminium,
16mm Bulgary proof,
Glass thickness: 5mm,
Dimension of window: 1200mm by 1200mm, 600mm by 700mm.

Also the cost of pop ceiling per sqm.

Thanks in anticipation for a favourable quote grin ; tongue

N.B

are casement windows really sound proof?

I m just curious on how you plan to build an "eco-friendly" 85 m2 house with 3 bedrooms with 2 Million naira and also make profit in 2018 AD...as my friends we say for this Buhari Regime cheesy grin

From the pictures on your ad...the finishing is okay...can you please post a brief summary of the cost of each stage...like foundation...block work to lintel..roofing...plumbin and wiring...etc.

Thanks

yea..thanks Boss..the wood work is much due to the spacing..this I know qnd forgot to add it up there.. is this the only reason?

We can build for you. And we are not expensive at all.

1) If you have a plan already, you can post it or send it to my mail.
2) what is your taste? Do you want P.O.P or P.V.C.? Do u want 'German floor or not? Do you want to use parapet? Do u want stone coated tiles or Longspan? Fence? Talk to your

With my own plan of a not too elaborate building and finishing, it will cost you about 6 million.

Quick question Sir...

Recently I found out that the price of longspan from Agen Aluminium (Benin city) is a lil bit more or about same price as that of the stone coated tiles advertised here on nairaland. e.g

0.55mm Long span at Agen is 2850 naira while stone coated advertised here on nl ranges from 2k to 2800naira....As a layman i dont quite get how an imported product (supposedly og higher quality) is cheaper or about same price as a product produced locally. if then why do people then buy longspan at such prices and not use stone coated or why do Q.S use long span when you tell them moderate finishing but the prices re about same.

is it the way they re quoted (square metres and metres)? I m just curious...Can you or anyone else please explain this?

Thanks

C.

Edit

Aside the woodwork which is much for the stonecoated any other plausible reason or am I missing something.

I'm sold on it, I just have to find the right profile.

That's mostly what we have here and they make it onsite.

it should be possible..i just saw it on agen's webpage (see attached picture)...I think you can find a local maufacturer that can produce such.

Even though you haven't seen the specifics of the actual contract?

Then i m forced to ask you..would the firm return any balance if there is a drop in selling price?....Prices re normally listed at selling rate and once payment is made deal is closed..what the man described was an increase in price after he made payment under the old price regime and then the firm calling him to inform about price increase after a week and subsquently asking him to pay the balance undecided

if it was a case of mistake in price list then it is understandable and the customer can be informed about the mistake..it is then the customer decision to pay the new price or simply ask for a refund.

Increase in prices ought to ve an effective date and should not be applied retroactively. in the case of making orders..the firm should inform their clients when the new price regime will come into effect.

If you ve the contract you can share it with us..but until then what the man described above can best be described as Bullshi.t and should not be done by any reputable firm

It is called a 'breach of agreement/contract' but l am sure if l aske you to contact ur Lawyer to press for compensation due to loss incured (current and future), you will probably laugh at me and say 'this is Nigeria, it cant work'. undecided undecided

Its all about CONTRACT : Dangote OFFERED to Sell, Chekitaut ACCEPTED to buy..... and a CONSIDERATION (money) was 'given and taken' to seal the Contract.

Any unilateral revocation
of such a binding contract, by any of the parties involved, is a violation of the contract and the affected party can sue for loss/damages and compensation.

Caveat: Unless the T & C of such contract (clause) expressly say they can do as alleged, and you signed-on to such clause.

But then, wetin l sabi sef.

thank u...it is nothing but breach of contract..and i can bet my balls on it that if the price had dropped the firm wont ve reimbursed him the difference...

Increase in prices cannot be applied retroactively so they cant ask him to pay the new price since he paid under the old price regime. Increase in prices ought to ve an effective date and regular customers ought to be informed..Under normal circumstances he will simply approach the consumer protection agency and the company will be called to order..it wont even happen in the first place..

The way and manner we do biz in Nigeria is sickening to say the least...we wont move an inch forward like this

grin grin grin Ahhh yes is quite good to test the charge and discharge abilities of the brain of our doctoral students tongue tongue...that way they can learn.

Is really nice you work on most of those cathode materials and I kinda like sol-gel anyway than Flame spray.

Magnesium rechargeable batteries (MRB) are emerging as an attractive candidate for energy storage due to safety, high volumetric
energy density and scalability.

For the MRB cathode: I am looking at some simple biopolymeric materials such as polypyrrole ( I will be doping the organic materials with halogens), PVDF-HFP and ternary mixed metals oxides, and most importantly some MOFs...if time permits silicates based transition metals.

In the project: the intention is to embed the MRB into an hybrid smart grid and link it to energy management system. It will be test run in a small cattle farm.

cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy so our brains should also be tested grin grin..is this what you guys discuss at faculty meetings?

Wow..that sounds nice..you can add prussian blue derivatives to your list of materials....

Wow that's quite an interesting research you got. I have not used DMFA for kinetics of batteries before but I have good standard experience with short-time Fourier transformation (STFT) for kinetics of batteries. Also, I have known a friend that works lot on dynamic impedance spectroscopy using DMFA and currently he is on loan to NASA.

May I ask, which type of batteries you work on and Have you worked on magnesium rechargeable batteries before? I likely gonna get a fund for MRB..

Aqueous lithium ion batteries and aqueous zinc ion batteries

The cathode materials I ve studied includes Lithium managense oxide (Thin films and Bulk materials made by sol gel and Flame spray pyrolysis..Prussian Blue analogues (copper and Nickel Hexacyanoferrate) and Lithium iron phosphate...

A little bit of everything grin grin grin....you know how you profs can play with the feelings of doctoral students..using us to test everything cry

My Current Research: Highly Flexible Supercapacitor Fabrication for Energy Storage

The rapid increase in the global energy consumption and the environmental impact of traditional energy resources has led to tremendously increased research activities on clean and renewable energy sources recently. As these new energy forms are intermittent or regionally limited (e.g., water), there is a pressing need to develop advanced energy storage systems, such as supercapacitors, for efficient storage of electrical energy at all scales ranging from solar through wind farms to wearable electronics.

My team: Myself (Supervisor), 3 PhD students, 6 undergraduate students

Funding: Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey and Cyprus Science University Campus Research Funding

Funding amount and duration: 10,000 USD (6 months timeline)

Electrode and Electrolyte Materials: Electrode materials will be fabricated from waste chewing gum and electrolyte from extracted cassava or irish potatoes.

Applications
The supercapacitor will be applied for energy storage in a small-scale in applications Including transport, stationary, flexible, wearable and micro-supercapacitors.

Publication: Outcome will be published in quality Journals of Power sources, Energy Chemistry etc and presented at international conferences.

Interested in Supercapacitor??

A supercapacitor is a device that can store a large amount of energy, typically 10 to 100 times more energy per unit mass compared to ordinary capacitors. It is preferred to batteries owing to its faster and simpler charging, and faster delivery of charge.

Wow..Nice one Boss..I work on the other side of the isle(batteries and ion pumping techniques). At the moment I am using dynamic multi frequency analysis in studying the kinetics of reversible insertion of cations with the aim of extracting kinetic parameters that can be used to optimise existing technologies based on the reversible insertion of cations.

It will be interesting to study kinetics of your electrode materials using dynamic multi frequency analysis (DMFA). I m currently looking for opportunities to spend time in a laboratory outside my base (For the CV) and also to apply DMFA to other systems.

PM sent.

All the best!

Can we ever have such large hardware stores in Nigeria? Will people even pay for stuff?

people will gladly pay if the hardware store sells reliable stuffs and affordable prices.

we normally get most building materials and home improvement stuffs from the Bauhaus. It is very easy...u visit their site ..see the price or call them for enquiries but this is almost missing in all sectors in Nigeria.

Dealing with such stores are usually much easier as they deliver to your sites and you can easily make enquires by calling their hotlines and check for prices online. They re trustworthy and normally ve a name to protect and ideally will not try to short change you.

I dont get how we do buisness in Nigeria...Take for example..the prices of materials re usually omitted from the webpage of some companies.

They dont reply messages sent via contact forms...when you even call the listed numbers ...it is often private phone numbers and the responder may be driving and tell you to call back grin grin grin cheesy

The ease of doing business is something we need to work on...

Are you in Nigeria? If yes, go to a local factory in Benin and "chin up" on the price differential. I think Algean Aluminium in Benin should be up to the task but ask around or go to Asaba Aluminium company, do the payment at the factory and get a receipt and guarantee; from my experience such local companies will deliver. I used a factory in Warri as it is local for easy follow up. If you factor in the logistics cost, the price differential may not be that much at the end of the day. Paying 1.5m into an account possibly an individual account following some spurious review on Nairaland is a risk I will not take. But it's your money. But again, nothing beats due diligence and the ability to follow up if anything goes wrong. This is why I settle for local companies and chin-up on price differential with Lagos.

If the project is in Lagos, it's Lagos companies, if the project is in Ibadan, it's Ibadan companies and if it is in Delta/Edo it's BENDEL companies. This way has worked for me over the years. It may work for you too.

Thanks for the heads up Boss...Yea....I will look into this option and find away around the 1k difference per metre than taking huge risk

what surprises me is that the company/seller have refused to do a pay on delivery method but wants me to pay 1.5M to an account base on trust... I was willing to pay for the transport and 10-20% upfront and pay the balance once the guage is confirmed in Benin...

I also asked if they could set a verification with the bank so the bank can withhold the money until i confirm the guage but they refused and insist on payin a 1.5M upfront.

To me (I may be very wrong ) I'd expect the company to accept this since they will still be in possession of the materials in benin until i confirm the guage and the length.

WHAT MAKES ALUMINIUM ROOFING SHEETS TO LEAK?

1. Faulty corrugating machines

Whenever the machines used to fold aluminium sheets develop faults due to poor service and poor maintenance culture, it might start to punch too hard, perforating sheets in the process, such holes might be too small to notice, until it rains. That is when you see the faults. A roof repair guy will be needed to use felt and patch the roof from under to fix the leaks.

2. Lapping gaps

By this, I mean the point where two sheets join, where one sheet laps over the other to create a continuous roof. If you are using step tiles, or worse still Metcoppo sheets of aluminium, please help yourself and do what we call, DOUBLE LAPPING, this will mean lapping two rows of aluminium sheet instead of lapping on one only. Water splashing during rain fall can easily get under the a single lap, and leak seriously into the house. With double Lapping, you are assured of less incidence of water getting under your roof from the point where two sheets join. It's important to note that double Lapping will increase your roofing sheets quantities by about 8-12%. You will actually spend more to do double lapping.

3. Roof Ridge covers

The ridge cover is another point that can let in water during the rain, especially with a poor carpentry job. Another problem with ridges is if the ridge capping is not wide enough to comfortably cover the roof, water can find a way to flow into the roof especially during heavier rains.

POINTS TO NOTE

1. That you used .55, .45 or .40 to roof your house is not the reason it will leak. The reason is the design, or wrong placement of your lapping.

2. The Metcoppo, and the step tiles will leak much more than the straight long span sheets. We usually think that the beauty of the Metcoppo or the step tiles, exposes it to a design flaw which makes it prone to leakage. Be ready foe periodic roof maintenance if you use Metcoppo sheets.

Happy easter my good people.

Thanks Boss

I know derenyx can help with a good roofer

even if you use a 0.45mm instead of a 0.55mm...will that lead to such level of leakage?..I ve no experience in this but i suppose a thickness of .10mm which is less than 20% difference in thickness should not lead to such amount of leakage under 2years...the roof posted by @diordaves looks sloped and should not have such issues..

Good day All,

I need informed opinions about this issue.

I m currently planning to roof my project in Benin Using 0.55mm metcopo. The prices in Benin are 1000 naira / metre more than the prices in lagos.(advertised here on nairaland). The roofing area is ca. 550 metres. thats 550k and i m now inclined to buy the roofing sheets from lagos.

my questions are

1. Whats the reason for this price disparity between the price in lagos and that in Benin.

2. for those who' ve bought theirs in Lagos....did you make payment before delivery or after delivery?

3. what re the common gimmicks to watch out for.

I ve suggested to the seller to pay upon reciept or he should organise with the bank to withhold the money until i confirm receipt.

my fears are from my experience dealing with contractors or artisans in nigeria..most recently was the paraphet contractor i met online(jijg or so)...It took pressure for my friends for him to finish the job..and the job went on for 2 more weeks more than the estimated date of delivery ...I will not even go into how the carpenter ran away with part payment and i had to pay another capernter to finish the wood work...it was horrible experience and the last thing i need now is to go through such again

thanks in anticipation for a prompt reply.

Happy Holidays!

From my calculation, using 12mm rebar, 8mm rings and 25grade concrete the beam wld cost about N3500 - N3700 per Linear Meter... Materials and Labour inclusive.

You can however use 10mm rebars and a lower grade of concrete since the polystyrene are super light weight... But not less than grade 30 I'll advice.

Good day sir,
This variables are not really necessary, sometimes we don't use the wood if it is not available on site, The wood is just to make it straight and when it is not available we take our measurement and make use of lines and nails to set the boards, on the issue of roof beam casting, not all the installation require roof beam as well. if the client is casting a roof beam we will install on it before the casting and this make it stronger. I don't have an estimate of roof beam as we don't do roof beam casting.
where is the site located?
you can send your architectural plan to our email frugesarenaltd@gmail.com for us to also calculate the linear meters.

Thanks for the response.

I do understand your points..there re several ways in which things can be done but there is always the best and standard way. You ve said and I quote

"I believe the roof beam only make it more firm when it is casted with the parapet. This building already has its roofing done with no roof beams on it."

So in your opinion the roof beam makes it more firm.

However you can also fix it without a roof beam..whats the guarantee that it wont fall off if fixed without a roof beam?

As you know a house is a long term investment and it is better to do things the right way from the scratch.

My site engineer has informed me that his original plan is to cover the last blocks (hollow)with casting but without rods..(no roof beams). will this be enough to hang the paraphet? will it make it firm as using a roof beam?

Lastly I will advise you add the estimate of the roof beam and also state that it is optional so clients can make an informed decision.

Thanks in anticipation for a prompt and favourable reply.

Good day Teewhy,

Thanks for the wonderful analysis.. If I understand correctly installing the polystrene paraphet will entail using soft wood and prolly light casting..If yes can you give an estimate of these 2 variables using the 57 linear metre in your previous analysis and update your previous comparison if possible.
