Sincere apology guys. I have been quite busy lately.

@Cindino20: Not sure i got your pm. You may try resend. Thanks.

@yusufftaiwo: Experience so far has been nothing short of beautiful (short of superlatives). I must confess i have learnt many things during my time here; top of which is the ability to plan myself financially. I really dont have money issues, but knowing the fact that i have to pay for bus ticket, insurance, accomodation and food things monthly (out of the money i'm being paid) has really allowed me to plan myself very well and also spend within my budget. I have also improved tremendously in my time management - esp when it comes to meeting up with buses to your destination.

People here (i mean of all Nationalities) that i have met have been very good. Even though, i dont have a full grasp of their language, we dey flow satisfactorily. English mostly; then a bit of German (just a bit).

They've got good foods also. Lots of fresh stuff - vegetables, fruits aplenty. You wouldnt need to spend your quid on junks.

The research/learning environment is 'crazy'. These guys have gotten everything here. Every single materials, machines/equipments i thought of using for my Phd, they have them! Moreso, my colleagues in the institute (Germans, Iranians, Egyptians, Thai...etc) they've all been friendly, open and accommodating. We have fun together. Go for lunch together; dinner once a while and all sort. Less than 2 months, i'd already learnt the use and application of all the equipment. They teach me like secondary school boy (lol), not minding that i already have my MSc and years of working experience.

One thing that has helped me is my sincerity and honesty. Anytime they ask me if i know how to do 'this' or 'that', i dont decieve myself. I open up sharply. and they are very willing to teach you until you are tired. Even the few things i have half knowledge about, i ask them to explain more.

Seriously, i cant quantify what this experience has done to me. Its priceless.

Hoping to secure my Phd admission before my stay ends (less than 2 months). Already discussed it with my potential supervisor. Topic sorted. Just to iron out funding things. All things been equal, e go happen soon.

But, i tell you, if you dey here, Naija no go sweet you to return o. Organized System at its best! No wonder embassy dey full everyday...

Send u pm undecidedmaka why... check well bros

@bigzzz you have said it all. I believe Germany is simply taking in too much of them. They might end up struggling to control them when they start firing on all cylinders. Take a look around the world and you will realize what I mean.

Is Germany nt gettin it all wrong in accepting intl students in droves?....Bros WE ARE ALL MIGRANTS....No one would love to leave his/motherland just for leavin sake, circumstances beyond their control is the driving force...

I dont get it when Migrants share such sentiments. The only set of pple who to me has the guts to share such re pple who re pure Germans nt even Germans of foreign descent.

Also the other fella talkin abt USA ..Australia and co...The only thing going for those countries is that they re far from the Migrant countries...

Syrians were okay until the uprising and the proxy war going on there (West :America and Europe supporting the rebels vs East Russia n Iran supporting Assad)..When u destabilise a country by virtue of proxy war u shld also be responsible for the humanitarian crises...its quite easy today for pple from africa( Somali, Eriteria, Sudan, Ghana and Nigeria: Countries facing extreme case of structural violence due to the corruption of the elites)to cross because libya is now a failed state no control at all because the west could nt stand Gadaffi and with their Nato allies went all out for him today what do we ve ..a failed state....

When u talk to this migrant u will get a different view of everything...it could be you..and dont be quick to day we know the arabs bla bla and share islamophobic views ....yes they re muslim extremist but nt all re extremists..just same way nt all Nigerians do drugs and Advance free fraud...Stop the stereotype...

LIVE AND LETS LIVE.

There is a difference. We are acquiring an education and helping the economy by doing jobs that actually make a difference after our education in Germany. The little jobs that we do whilst studying are only to supplement our blocked acct or sponsorship, but in the case of Syrians most are only qualified for these little jobs.

Lols..dey there.... they can also acquire education if they wish...Unibremen has opened his doors to migrants under a special program
https://www.uni-bremen.de/en/international/ways-to-the-university-of-bremen/ub-for-refugees.html

and there re some skilled fellas among them too

WE ARE ALL MIGRANTS...and I dont see any reason for the fear mongering

The more people in this country the more jobs re created...there will be shortage of facilities..the need for new ones will arise and jobs re created taxes re paid and cycle continues...The German govt knows what they re doing.

Value added tax is 19% (aside food stuffs and soms basic things) so if u spend just 200 euros in this country today, the german govt will earn 38 euros....

NB: asylum seekers dont need to wait for their asylum t be approved once they ve the temporary stay..they just look for a lady to ve a baby for them and boom...Residency don show...YES ..thats how they roll

In all as a student u will be fine no need for fear mongering ..WE ARE ALL MIGRANTS.

@Ogagejay...lols they re drainin brains cheesy grin cheesy..brain drain is when highly qualified workers migrate from their country in search of better pay or improved livin conditions, leadin to shortage of experienced workers in such countries...Nigeria will top any list for countries experiencin brain drain.

Guys etihad is not what it may seem. I just bought a ticket for 574USD and I was happy thinking I have purchased a cheap ticket. On receiving the ticket I realized I have been charged 237naira to a USD which I had assumed won't be up to 200 per USD. I used a master card though. Union Bank Mastercard so I cant really tell who is charging me this high whether union bank or etihad airline . I am not sure union bank charge up to 200naira per USD.

The bank had same issue with first bank....They charged me 250 to 1euro...Omo I wan dump the master card for dustbin

check your mail Mr man..

Your brother needs to convince the auslanderbehorde why they shld gv him a visa to study takin into consideration he dropped out from his HND program(in his own country)..his commitment towards academics is in question here ..you know how these things work bros...Once u drop out from a program and list such in ur cv or tender any document from that program ..your employer or any institution ( in his case the auslanderbehorde) will ask u abt it durin interview to ascertain the reason why u dropped out and what u did after droppin out.

The question from the other side of the table is simple and straight forward.

Why shld we grant him a study visa when he dropped out from his previous program a yr ago?

His response shld be convincing...

I think some auslanderbehorde re now strict because of what some foreign students re doing....so I expect to see more of this

An advise to other applicants if you ve gap in between study periods or period of graduation and when u intend to begin ur msc pls provide proof of what u ve been doing

Hello guys, I have been thinking about how to Carry cash into Germany. I want the house to tell me the best option. Change to euro at the bureau de change, use a master cars over there in Germany. How did you do it you who are already there?

Carry ur cash...and declare it at the airport ( less than 10kusd of course and dont gv a pin to those immigration officers..dem beg die)..the new policy by cbn is something else..u cant withdraw more than 300usd here per day( first bank master card ...) and the exchange rate as at today using first bank mastercard was 250...200euros = 50300 naira..

The Policy is good and will save our dear naira before we land in Zimbabwe like situation. But like everyother thing it comes with a price.

Hey Buddy....I also follow the canadian thread and saw ur post abt ur rejection...Yea pretty sad but life goes on...I ve also noticed that it seems you now tryin to get into any sch in any foreign country...I will advise you to take the advise from the canadian thread cos it seems you love canada ....do A level or whatever is the entry requirement for bachelors program ..then apply to a sch ..get admitted and apply for ur TRV.

Nothin good comes easy...

Since u don't ve a first yr transcript in any uni..I dont think u can gain admission to German schs cos our SSCe is nt equivalent to the german arbitur ...the next possible way for you in germany is apply to a studentenkollege ( foundation course) and u need a BI german cert.( it may take abt 6 mths or more to get this)
..so you see..

Dont be in a hurry...you re young. ..Dont settle for anything less...Dont be in a hurry..denial of Trv is nt the end..dust urself do d needful and reapply.

loolzzzz..... Boss abeg u fit try break this thing down lol...

class I = single
class II = single parent (living alone with the child/children)
class III = married and spouse has no income or lower income
class IV = married and similar income to spouse
class V = opposite of class III, ie this is the class your lower earning spouse has if you have III
class VI= for a second job or for deduction without proper employee information
The taxation at source for capital income will be done with a flat tax rate of 25% (add solidarity surcharge of 5.5% of the amount of tax and, if applicable, church tax)

Since you said Class I is 40%,
Class 2? 3? 4? 5? 6? etc come be wetin?

and the solidarity charge is 5.5% of tax i.e 5.5% of 25% flat rate taxed on your capital income right?

Biko that class 3 & 4 odi very very important to me oh..lol..as boys don start to look 4 wife grin already lol... cheesy

Lols I m nt a tax expert...the 40% is total deductions ..for more on the estimated percentage for each tax class u can use the tax calculator ...
http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/tv-l/west/ for civil service but it can gv u a rough estimate of the various tax class just change the tax class and u will notice the difference.

Thanks @Jejet for the info.

Tax classes in Germany

Tax class 1 and 6 re nothing to write home abt...it pays to be married in Germany ..huge tax cut especially if your spouse salary is nt that high..in the case that both of you ve similar income u end up in tax class 4.

In all....Germany is a cool place

What do u mean it sucks if u don't intend to spend the rest of ur life? I don't get u. Well I think I might have to spend d rest of my life or move to the states in a few years if I get bored. Lol I have a German spouse so I can't escape it. But I learned that if we stayed in Nigeria we will pay only 1.5 million Naira per year as tax to Noah and we can keep all our money. I think we might do that in a few years to save small money abeg. Lol. To be honest it's quite a good place to raise kids cause u are always sure that no matter the case they will be taken care of. Unlike Naija where kids have to hustle through school at tender ages. It's sad...

Yea...the sys is cool....often at times when I hear pple complain abt taxes and social contributions I laugh, cos the sys is designed to help tho it is a lil bit abused by some pple.

So I m gonna try to drop my 2cents before some pple get scared of the tax sys.

Income Tax: government levy imposed on individuals or entities (taxpayers) that varies with the income or profits (taxable income) of the taxpayer. This depends on ur tax class see next post for tax class.

Contributions include

Unemployment benefits:this enable workers to get 70% or so of their last income if they lose their job for a year after contributing to the system for not less than a year..of course u ve to show that u re job hunting...another criteria is that u ve to ve an open work visa.

Health insurance (15.5%). Your enployer pays abt 7.5 abd u ve to cough out the rest...The benefits re immerse world class health care and all that..you also get paid some part of ur income in the evebt of prolonged illness after 6weeks the Krankenkasse steps in and pay abt 60% of ur income for some time.

Pflegeversicherung: Insurance for sick care or so....long term care or so my limited german skills wont alow me to understand this properly.

Church Tax: a lil fraction of ur income if u re a Roman catholic or Anglican ....if u re a protestant u dont pay a dime. They get this info when u register at city council

Pension: A certian percentage of your income also goes to the pension scheme..you contribute half and ur employer pays the other half....If you decide to leave the country anytime you can apply for your pension contributions to be refunded but note that u only get the part you contributed. IF you move to another E.U country you can ask your contributions to be transferred I think there is a sys in place for that( nt so sure)

Solidarity Payment.

You can also file for tax returns ( compulsory per annum ) to claim some tax back for this u need Steuerberater or u DIY.

Benefits you get.

Aside living in a stable country with good infrastructure some benefits of workin in Germany re:

Free education for kids from nursery to uni.

Unemployment benefits if you lose ur job after contributing to the system for nt less than a year.

Kindergeld: 180 or so per child for child support.

Eltengeld: Nursing mothers and fathers can get some percentage of their income while they tend to their offspring within the first year...both parents can apply.

Good health care system.....

Pension: Steady pension..at least u dont ve to queue at Alausa and faint for that.

Access to loans, mortage and the rest although nt common single digit interest rates.

Note : You re entitled to some if u ve an open wirk visa( nt tied to an employer) you dont necessary need to be German to get most of the benefits listed above. Germany is built on social contribution..if u ve decided to reside here ve that at the back of your mind....

Students re exempted from most of the taxes stated above ..as a student you pay lil or nothing and get them back at the end of the year make una nor panic...

You should look at the US. if you study medicine and get to practice in the US ehn...your money go long wella. Just take SAT, get a good score, apply to schools giving scholarships for their pre-med courses (chemistry, biology, etc). These schools are many. After about 7 years in total, you'd earn more than what you're supposed to earn as a doc in Germany.

kilo4sure, check TU berlin, msc polymer sci. and engr. Summer and winter applications. It beats me y u as a chem engr. wants to study chemistry. I'd advise u 2 chill till winter 2016, there are lots of excellent schools offering mat. sci, chem. eng., renewable energy, etc. Use d time to develop ur software skills, get A2 german knwldge, get IELTS, take GRE (so u can apply 4 scholarships in US <them many, trust me>wink. One year wait is not too long a time
#MYHUMBLEOPINION

I was shocked abt Kilo4sure's decision..I dont know why a chemical engineer would want to switch to chemistry..its normal d other way round..maybe he is driven by passion(love for chemistry).cos the pay for engineering grads re higher compared to natural science grads...if u re n driven by passion baba just look for related engineerin course do abeg.. dont be in a hurry..

For Aok (govt insurance) u pay a fine...and the bank charge u 1.50 euro if u re using a direct debit .

The best option in such situation is to call ur insurance coy and resolve it asap.

PS: I wont advise anybody to default unless its above ur control...cos in RUB its the easiest way for ur studentship to be revoked...once u default more than 3 times or so AOk may terminate ur contract nd inform the uni and one important condition for u to be a student is health insurance... and u still get to pay that money with interest accured or u will be reported to Schufa..then ur credit rating is gone ...cant get loans..cant buy stuffs via contract ( installmental payment) some cases some landlord requires credit check before rentin out apartments.

Lovely, you nailed it all here. But I have some questions as regards your msc course chemistry in Ruhr Bochum, on the website it states that it begins both winter and summer, but on daad it says winter only, did you come across this dilemma during ur application? Also, how many chemical engineers are in your department? Do they admit chemical engineers? I did so many chemistry courses on their course content(and did quiet well in them) from my first 2years in chemical Engineering, but to my surprise Fau erlangen told me by mail that they don't normally admit chemical engineers, so that's why I'm left wondering, thanks again please I await ur incisive response especially on the summer issue and when the application period BEGINS. Danke mein bruder.

Yea...you can be admitted in both summer and winter....I moved to bochum in summer '14. Application for summer semester opens in November or so....till jan.15

I know just one chemical engineer in my dept..he is from the U.S of A....he is done with his masters and doing his phd in Bochum...The first 2yrs chemistry courses u did would probably be introduction ..but u can mail the course advisor a student copy of ir transcript and ask if its compatible.

Aside chemistry u can aslo check out Material science, Some engineering courses.

All the best!

A REPLY TO EKE40seven's questions...Apologies for late reply..didnt get the notification.

1.I m Cindino20, studying chemistry (Msc in view) at the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany.

2..The difference between Nigerian education system and the German system for me is Research. In Nigeria you ve to imagine everything the labs were nothin to write home about and all that...left for me I did classify what i studied in Nigeria as ALCHEMISTRY(I mean no disrespect to the motherland) but here in Germany I get to do latest research and study with state of the art facilities, work with experts in my field and do collaborative research with Industries.

3. Alot .alot bro..but we made it!!! as a masters student it was assumed that I ve done a lot durin my bachelors thanks to my fancy transcript..but truth be told those course were not taught in depth and there was a gap...I had to fill the gap myself ..my first semester was really tough ..I spent time tryin to bring myself up to speed and all that...but now its just a walk in the park

3. Dont be discouraged ..Dont lose focus...Read!!!..dem nor dey see I know person here make I pass am ......Make friends with people who did their bachelors in ur uni...They know the tricks and will tell you...Connect with Nigerians, Africans or foreign student in ur uni..Have a study buddy that shit u strugglin with can be easy if someone explains it to you.No man is an Island. To an extent how far u succeed in Germany depends on ur graduating grade ..Put some effort!

4 RUB is a large sch...abt 40K students with ca. 3500 intl student ..I did describe it as an healthy one ..even with the locals ..nice and helpin pple with little assho.les of course (nt even christ could pick a 12 without pickin an assho.le).

5. Yes for me language was my main problem. I did just 6weeks course in Nigeria...I m still integrating grin until I ve that Red passport awon EU nationalised citizen...srxly it wasnt that difficult, I believe as a Nigerian that shldnt be much of a problem..

6. A hardworkin student in Nigeria will surpass his/her performance in Nigeria..I normally make a joke that Nigerian student are performing at 30% installed capacity...all dos candle readin..hungry belle maths lack of study materials, lecturer teach A bring B for exam and all that re non existent here...In Germany you can at least perform at 65% installed capacity remaining percent for working if you re lucky enough to be buoyant financially you can perform at 90%..but the key is start to study early and try to know the tricks bro...some lecturers repeat past questions some dont but give model questions and others dont even give anything and the materials here are voluminous you can get 350 pdf pages for just one course (organic chemistry).. so you need to know the trick u can only learn this from students who did their bachelors here or a semester ahead of you

if you spend 6 hrs daily here like everyday...omo na sehr gut u go get now less than 1.5 (Distinction or first class).

7.Distractions for here sad angry..Omo to me Germany is boring..The only shit that was suppose to distract me was clubbin ..oh yea ..but just then u visit the club and they start dancin like teletubbies...keine lust mehr

8. Of course anything is possible..but abeg dont behave like salami who fell in love with a drum lipsrsealed grin...just nor marry the rejected abeg..Tired of seein good lookin black brodas movin around with some drum like lookin women

9. Fucntional smartphoe abeg leave ur Blackberry for Lagos, Laptop, Clothes depends on the weather and season cos as JJC to buy Nike shoe or Timberland for like 140 euros or more go be ur like WAR

10.For Jobs check JObsites like Jobborse Jobmensa Indeed and hookup with Nigerians and Africans ..Germans na so so book matter dem go dey tell u govt dey drop steady for them

I give Bochum 6.0 on a scale of 10..The ruhrgerbeit is an area of vibrant city close to each other so u have Dortmund ESSEN , Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Koln within reach ..thanks to SEmester Ticket

a. Germans are cold ..some re cold like ice
b. They hate late coming..Dont try this in Germany if you re late send an email or call with a vaild reason abeg leave African time for Africa
D. They don't have time for chitchat..they do
E. They are introverts..not all
F. They love beer..majority...heheheheheh One of the reasons why I love Germany

Okies we done.
