Have you done studies on semiconductors (like doping, photocatalysts, increasing the band gap et al),electrochemical sensors, etc?

Nothin serious...just the basics...I stated my research areas/interests but did a course on semiconductors...I also worked a lil bit on Biosensors for Nitrate detection but didnt like it cos the polymer i was usin was too fragile.

Whats your research interest?

Please I'll be very happy if the contractors in the house can be of help here. It's really urgent. I'm thinking of budgeting 18m.

You cant get any estimate without a plan. Since u re based abroad it will be better for you to do things d right way than just allow pple thru figures at you.some will thru nice figures at you and cant get the job done...others will thru inflated figures at you just to make a killing within the first few weeks and ball out...

So I will try to highlight some things u need to do..

Disclaimer: I m nt a builder nor do I ve a degree in structural engineering/Architecture/Building.

Assumption..You have a land already.

1. Survey the plot of land and register it with the right authorities

2.Take the coordinates and pass it to an architect to design a plan for you.

3.Give the plan to a quantity surveyor to make an estimate...He is going to inflate the prices for sure(quantity and unit price will be inflated)... ask him for an excel spreadsheet so you can easily edit it.

4...Then u on your part go to the properties section, read threads abt similar projects..this will give you an idea of the right amount of materials you need. and find the unit cost of building materials (for this you can use one engineer osas blogspoot.).

And yes these steps you wont repeat them again when you start building in December.

The cost of gettin ur land surveyed, architectural design and Bill of quantities will be less than 350k...abt 700box

Surveying abt 100k...architectural design and bill of quantities 250k...

Dont get pissed with this cost. It will do you enough good to ve a good start. And dont send money to people randonmly. Use referrals.

Your 18M will go a long way i think if u use moderate finishin since i presumme u re going to rent the apartments out...and if the 18M is nt enough..dont despair...use it judiciously then go back and save and finish the House

All the best.

IF YOU WRITE SOMETHING WORTH READING, THAT IS ACCEPTED FOR PUBLICATION IN REPUTABLE JOURNALS IN A PARTICULAR DISCIPLINE AND YOU HAVE LIKE 30 OF SUCH THESIS, YOU ARE A PHD ALREADY. SEE IT AS VOLUME AND QUALITY OF CONTRIBUTION TO HUMAN ADVANCEMENT AND NOT TITLE. I NEED TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN DO THIS BY ANALYSING DATA THAT IS ALREADY IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN, THEN PUBLISHING YOUR ANALYSIS. JUST PICK A RELEVANT PROBLEM TO SOLVE AND USE WIKIPEDIA, GOOGLE AND ETC AND COME UP WITH AN ORIGINAL ANALYSIS, THAT IS A THESIS, IF WELL RESEARCHED, ANALYSED, ARTICULATED AND WELL WRITTEN. YOU WILL INADVERTENTLY BE GIVEN A PROFESSORIAL SEAT IN HARVARD OR SO.

THAT IS HOW IT WORKS REALLY. HOWEVER, ANOTHER WAY IS TO DO YOUR MASTERS, BE TELEGUIDED BY SUPERVISORS, PAY SCHOOL FEES AND ETC. THAT IS A GOOD WAY TOO . IT IS THE CONVENTIONAL WAY.

Crap...advisin someone who intend to do a doctorate to use wikipedia shocked grin cheesy.

Obviously u ve lil or no knowledge abt the subject matter.

@OP after your Bachelors ..look for a tuition free country to do your masters eg Germany..(if you ve the means go to the US) and after your masters if you make a good grade...you will get a phd offer with funding.

I will advise you not to do your graduate study in Nigeria esp as your course is research based.

@biglord

Uncle Biglord ...

While its commendable that u re trying to help which its a rarity among Nigerians these days....I m tempted to sound a warning to you and your prospective clients...there is a reason why db is asking student to provide account details with the money and also fill d account where the money is comin from..although this law is nt applied properly and often at times ignored.

I dont wanna be a spoiler..but evil triumps when good do nothing. ...you can call me an alarmist or anything..but the word CREDITING ..mehn...I will try to paint out a scenario for you...I m in no way accusing you of anything.....

The question is do you know where that money is coming from..how well do you know these pple?

If that money is not comin from a legitimate source the owner of the blocked account is finished..it may take time before the funds re traced..but once traced . The person will face investigation which may nt be fair cos it will be tough to prove u re not part of the scheme..bank transfer in Nigeria showin u paid the person the money may nt be enough..The banks will come after u with everything..the owner of the blocked account may nt understand German enough to even go thru such stress..the Nigerian embassy will abandon u ...

if at the end of the day ..u could prove u were nt part of the scheme..ur education will suffer...huge legal fees will be there to pay..but if u cant...d minimum sentence u will get is 3yrs...after serving the 3yrs u will be shipped back to nigeria.

I do understand its becoming increasingly difficult to fund using Nigeria banks and the cost from black mkt is something else..but its better to face that stress than risk certian things.

The word creditin in blue mkt like Biglord called it means funds been transferred to ur account often at times from sources that re nt legitimate...eg....hacked accounts..stolen credit cards..Diverted payment...using the account to accept payment or drugs....

The money maybe comin from bizmen like they will say or pple who wanna transfer money back home...lols...Be Careful pple..Be Careful once jungle mature dem nor dey see paddy...

This is Europe!...the german sys is tight...it will rip u to shreds if u re on the wrong side of the law

Truth is it is damn risky to transfer ur money using such method.....forget what the person is tellin u..forget it....there is a parable in Nigeria that Dogs dont eat Dogs.

My advise is source ur money locally via bank or black mkt and transfer it from ur Dorm account..it is expensive we know but it is better and less complicated.

All d best pple.

Again I ve nt accused u of anything..cheers mate!

No, you can't apply for permanent resident during the 18 months. You qualify for Permanent resident after staying 5 yrs in Germany and u qualify for d German passport after staying for 8 yrs.

But also note that ur years used studying qualify as half to your permanent resident status meaning when counting d no of years, if you used 5 (msc+ bsc) years to study it only counts as 2.5 years while full year counts only wen u start working full time after graduation or u stsrt phd as phd is recognized as a full time job if its the one u get a contract for. So if u do a 3 year phd, it counts as 3 yrs. Meaning in your case if u only do a 2 yr MSC, den u av only gotten 1 yr of d needed 5 yrs to qualify for PR. Your 18 month job hunting period will also count as 9 months towards your PR. Meaning In all by d time your 18 elapse u only av used 1 yr and 9 months towards PR.

I hope u get my explanation?

And as for health insurance, u pay monthly for it to remain covered for as long as u stay in Germany. Its a monthly payment thing that u must not default or u get a fine for each month u default

Just to add to this

Most pple re nt aware that Graduates of German unis re eligible for settlement permit (Permanent residency in Germany)after 2yrs of workin irrespective of the duration of ur course...even if the Job is not 100% position

I ve a collegue who is abt to benefit from the waiver....Below os is the waiver as stated in online gesetz...

---
A foreigner who has successfully completed his or her studies at a state or state-recognised university or a comparable educational establishment in the federal territory shall be granted a settlement permit, if

1. he or she has held a residence title pursuant to Sections 18, 18a, 19a or 21 for two years,

2. he or she has a job commensurate with his or her degree,

3. he or she has paid compulsory or voluntary contributions into the statutory pension scheme for at least 24 months or furnishes evidence of an entitlement to comparable benefits from an insurance or pension scheme or from an insurance company, and

4. the requirements of Section 9 (2), sentence 1, nos. 2, and 4 to 9 are met; Section 9 (2), sentences 2 to 6 shall apply mutatis mutandis.

To be honest this is a mess created by Merkel naivety. the UK promised to take only 20,000 people in 5yrs and other EU countries have taken less and locked their borders. No Arab country is willing to take anybody coming from Syria or other war torn countries even when its a lot easier for them to integrate.

I hope i'm wrong but its going to get messier because of huge amount of people that came in within a short period of time.

U may be right but I wont describe it as Naivety...she like most pple in Germany (includin me) listened to human part in them and showed empathy and sympathy towards the refugees.. lookin the other way was nt an option and till date its not not after seeing those horrifyin videos comin out from Alepo with the regime using barrel bombs ..migrants drownin in the meditterean ..the picture of Alan Kurdi comes to mind.

Yes mistakes were made ...the vettin process was compromised as the influx was unprecendented...Givin the conditions then there was nothin that could ve been done differently with more than 10k pple comin in a day.

Although the sentiments may ve changed I m of the opinion that Merkel,Germans and everyone who was for "open borders" did nothin wrong.

The pple we should blame re these sick brain washed lunatics who can get their sh.it together..

Going forward ...more screenin shld be done and if possible women and kids shld be allowed in and the young men shld stay back and fight for their con3.

Wats massive here pls

"20 copies of their credentials"

Are Nigerian administrators this dull or what? What about using a single pdf file which in turn can easily be sent to the "20".

This alone can put off some applicants I cant even imagine someone havin to make 20 copies of his/her Waec cert, Bsc cert..Msc cert..(maybe they also need transcripts) phd cert...list of publications..Recommendation letters...letters from previous employers..Cv.

By the end of the day u did ve more than 100 copies...then you ve to manually transport this bulky package or send by post...

All this could simply be averted if they opt for a single pdf file which will be easier for them to seive thru and havin to deal with all this crappy paper work...or you create a portal where applicants can simply upload their credentials.

Our civil service needs reforms ..Urgent reforms.

We cant continue to do things same way and expect different results.

This is crap!

And the requirements is also crap!

With 3 yrs post doctoral experience any sane person will accept nothing short of an associate professor (Reader) or a research group leader unless the Phd was "man know man thesis"

Ca.3.5-5 yrs of original research (phd duration) and 3 yrs post doc experience (gettin familiar with apication of grants...teaching...supervising students and managing a research group)...no sane being will accept lecturer I undecided

Unless you copied someone's work durin your phd and did your post doc in your livin room watchin cartoons...

The registrar of FUNAAB or whoever put up that advertorial shld recall it and make amends

Today Nigeria is experiencing brain drain because of such issues going unchecked...young..intelligent and talented pple re leaving Nigeria in droves....

No Germany is not shitty. I just am a realist. You know how when we were back in Nigeria and we had a friend or brother visiting. We would be expecting the person to throw money and gifts around. We always believed that people from abroad are rich.
Now we are here, we know what is obtainable. Its not the way we assumed. There are certains things that must come to play and certain sacrifices that must take place to succeed here. Its not as easy as the snap of a finger. It takes time to settle into the system. Nobody got euros to throw around. Some of us visiting Nigeria have been going quietly, no euros to throw around. To get 1€ here you work very hard for it.
Just imagine arriving Germany and within one month family and friends have started asking for school fees, feeding, medical bills etc. They believe once you are abroad you must hammer.
I tried to give a balanced view. There are Nigerians here who for years they have nothing to show. Nothing! Its good to think very well and don't give up/loose so much to get here. Going through the website 'how to make it in Germany' it is clearly stated even on DAAD that those in the sciences- STEM have a greater chance here and You read chemistry which is a STEM. My course is STEM too. Please when the job is contract is concluded kindly tell us how you switched from student visa to work permit.
Apart from visa testimonies the real testimonies here is those who went through school, graduated and got jobs here. To get job after graduation here is not so common. An Indian flatmate got a job here after school but time to start the job they apologized to him that they have given it to EU citizen. Stories like this are here but we will overcome EU or not.

Yea I agree with u abt being realistic..a lil optimism wont do anyharm too...most pple once they get to Germany they just abandon this board and move on hence the little or no testimony abt jobs after graduation...

I dont know what is obtainable on the other side(non stem courses)

Sorry to hear abt ur Indian colleague but that company actions re against the employment laws ..Graduates of German unis re exempted from such rules (exempted from vorandprufung see link below) so the claim by the coy is totally against the law..but things like this may happen

http://www.uni-bielefeld.de/(en)/International/Scientists/in-bielefeld/meldewesen.html.

http://www.internationale-studierende.de/en/finishing_your_studies/staying_in_germany/

And for changin from student permit to work permit ..I dont think its difficult cos my Iranian colleague who is a yr ahead of me in my workgroup changed with no issues..she went to the foreign office with her job contract and got s18 permit(work permit) for 3yrs.

I hope u re aware that german graduates also get the permanent residency after 2yrs of workin irrespective of income ..all u need is contribution towards social security.see link below

http://www.expatica.com/de/visas-and-permits/A-guide-to-German-citizenship-and-permanent-visas_108795.html

I respect your opinion but I beg to disagree on a few point you posted. With my experience from the north to the south of Germany, it is very rare to be interviewed for even a cleaning job in any other language apart in German. You must have indicated that you can't speak German otherwise you must open your mouth and bring out the German you know. Employees expect you to be able to communicate. A few may overlook it but its not common here. if you are to do a job that will require you to talk to customers, they won't risk it. you must be good in Deutsch. To even find an employer that will pass instructions to you all the time in English? what of your supervisors? Heck compare the ratio of adverts of purely English speaking jobs to jobs that put German language as a condition; its 1.5/10, very low
secondly I don't rely on those money figures you are throwing around. If there is one thing I have learnt here is not to take people's claims as to what they do and earn here. I only believe facts with evidence. if i see your payslip before i go belief. everybody want to form and claim. I don catch some. Only one guy on this thread has come back to tell us how he graduated and got a job. No one else. Our naija sister got a graduate job too but her German is very tight. I met a guy too who got a graduate job. A foreigner he read automobile engineering. of course the automobile industry is big here. Good enough you said you have spent 2 years down the line. it will be nice you can post how you went about getting a graduation job. I wish you Goodluck with that.
Thanks Schwartz.....I think there were some misconceptions abt my post.

I never said you did get a Job without speakin German although it happens..i guess you missed the line (ceteris paribus)
...It will be unwise for me to tell pple nt to learn the lang. What I meant by German lang barrier is that after 2yrs of studying you may nt be fluent as a native speaker because you may barely ve time to attend an intensive Lang. Course except the once a week organized by the uni and with that nt much progress is usually made.you may end up at B1 or B2 which is fair enough.

My experience here is that most companies employin graduates are aware abt the difficulties intl students do ve in havin a grip of the languague and what they wanna see is a commitment to learning the lang and in some cases they do ask their workers to learn the languague after gettin the job. For example...the head of our research group is nt very fluent in German despite doing his phd in switzerland but when he was offered the position of a full time prof.the position had a clause stating that in the next 2yrs he should ve learnt the languague to an extent that allows him to deliver lectures in German without issues.....now he teaches in german missed with english...and in some courses pure english.

Bro It is doable ...I met a guy when I arrived here...he studied automation and Robtics...he took him a yr to get a job when he got the Job it was a decent postion mind with little german maybe that was why it took so long ... there is a Nigerian CS graduate that got 2 offers immediately after he graduated...baba it may be difficult but it is doable..there re challenges of course...there is no where in the world where it is easy...but Germany rewards hardwork which is something young pple need.

I ve met a couple of Nigerian students who ve said they wont get a job even before they graduate.... even when u try to encourage them they dont wanna ve any of it..why they hold such views...I dont know...mother nature wont gv u something u dont want and work for...

You also accused me of throwing figures around...I didnt..I will drop links for you...msc graduates re scaled in Tv l 13 in the german civil service (private sector pays higher) see link below ..also Check the link on how to calculate taxes there ...

https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarifvertrag_für_den_öffentlichen_Dienst_der_Länder

http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/c/t/rechner/tv-l/west?id=tv-l-2016i

You also asked me to post how I got a graduation job...Uncle pple ve different paths......pple know me personally on this board I wont start self edification it is against my core values...but if u really wanna know u I will do it...I m a chemistry student and will submit my thesis in august...I ve an offer already to do my phd with a decent wage(Research assitant position).I m doing a phd because 80% of German chemist ve phd and I didnt travel 5k miles to be a mediocre chemist.

I m grateful to this country for havin provided for me free and quality education....something I did pay thru my nose in Uk,Us or canada...and to add to it the con3 also deemed it fit to support me in form of a stipend...

My friends in Nigeria who re doing tneir master thesis re forced to buy reagents(chemicals) for their own research but here in Germany pple get paid to do research... we re all right..its just a matter of perspective.

I will also encourage young pple who re passionate abt studying to key into this even if it means makin realistic sacrifices...in the short run it may be diffucult..d shitty obs and all that but in the long run it is worth it.

Schwartz dont take this line srxly ..I often make a joke that if Germany is as shitty as u guys make it seems...there is a 10 pm flight to lagos from frankurt. grin cheesy(spaß)

If u want my honest advice, I will say this is a very wrong move. You want to leave certainty for uncertainty. Do u think you will be able to save 90k monthly if u get here as a student? What 90k will do for u in Nigeria, d euro equivalent will not do it. Plus u still av a danfo giving u upkeep money and u want to throw it all away cus u think Germany is paradise Wia money is easy and job is yanfuyanfu. My guy don't follow that path of leaving ur 90k job selling ur other source of income and still going into debts to come to Germany biko. I don't think its worth it

I m just gonna add my own opinion..we re all correct its a matter of perspective and this is my own perspective.

Stop lookin at the short run...think abt the future...3yrs from now when he graduates and start workin...things he can achieve here in Germany professionally...I dont think anyone can save any tangible money when studyin to be honest cos the educational sys is tough and u will barely ve the time to work more than 15hrs durin sch term

There is more to life than money..pple migrate for several reasons..some for stable life..some for kids to ve quality education..some for adventure ..some to attain professional goals...so it depends on what the young man wants...his long term goals....

Will his present job allow him to grow?
Is it a job or a career?
What is his short term and long term career and personal goals?

It is sad that nigerians often view everythin under the lens of money.....

With the crashin naira...d economic uncertianity in Nigeria there is no better time for a young person to leave than now...like one poster said 90k is abt 250 euros as at today...

2yrs ago the cost of comin to Germany was abt 1.86m naira (8090 euros @230naira to 1 euro total excludin expenses and all that) now that 1.86m naira is 5300 euros 350 naira to 1 euro)

2yrs down the line...havin survived the german educational system...today those persons who came here 2yrs ago can hold their own anywhere in the world and beat their chest and say they re professionals without fear nor favour...and the hiring rate as at today for Msc graduates in Germany is at least ca.3500 euros (minimum start up salary german civil service for msc graduates tv l 13) before tax which after tax for a single person will leave u with 2k euros ..if they save half of that 1k euros as at today is 350k naira or even less...mind you the salary in Nigeria has nt increased over the last 2yrs in tandem with the inflation caused by crashin naira and increase in pump price of petrol

And this is the least if they know their onions...it may take time to get the job but this is the least...you never can tell the man may be the next Bernett Omalu

And pls dont start with he cant get a job in Germany because of German lang barrier......if he is smart enough to get a job in Nigeria as at today i think he will get one here too when he graduates ceteris paribus.

And before you take the leap mr. Man think abt it and follow ur heart and when u do..no regrets...

In all remember these words

You will sacrifice alot to come to this con3 ...when the story will be told it wont be about the sacrifice you made but what you will achieve

All the best.

NB
For the landlord dont sell ur house ...borrow if u can or save up...(personal opinion)

My dear brothers in Deutschland (eke40seven,williamso,schwartz, stevemims, ogagaejay and others), I need your advise. Which city is better in terms of Student mini jobs, cost of living and studies from: Freiburg, Trier, Duisburg-Essen, and Koblenz-Landau?
I need your advise based on your experiences brothers. I'll be glad to hear from you.

Konlenz is dry..nothin dey happen there...same with Trier i think....essen-Duisburg is okay ...Freiburg no idea..but dont even think of koblenz its a small city with little or no student job.

MSC neuroscience is a research based masters with no link to clinical work experience like I tot before coming. All they train u for is lab research both useful and useless ones and upon graduation, dey expect u to toe the PhD, post doc line and become a prof jumping from one research to another and writing/publishing papers. Most of the research I must also say av no link to a developing country like Nigeria. The results won't be of benefit to me or my country for now. This is not a carrier path I envisage for myself. I don't want to end up as a lab rat white haired prof in one German institute.

Basically universities in Germany are research oriented especially in d medical sciences while uni of applied sciences are d one structured to prepare u for d work environment but many of us do not know that before coming over. So since I want a carrier outside academia for myself, I'm switching to a uni of applied sciences to get the needed training for clinical practice.

Why nt complete the masters and then switch..or take out one semester for internship in a coy...or do your master thesis in a research institute or a coy...

You re right the universities in Germany re research oriented.....because BMBF and most research fundin organisations will only fund groups researchin on projected problems (problems that will occur 20yrs from now) which is logical as it makes no sense to repeat a research if I understand correctly and also as a science student u did prolly stop at phd level (ca.80% of german chemists ve phd) and then if u wanna go to the industry u can switch...even in the industry u become a research scientist optimising exisiting processes while they employ technicians to run the plants..

Research institutes and coys re usually more of applied stuff( findin solns to localized problems) .....you can check fraunhofer..max plank and helmholtz..

And like most countries the research done in Germany is to address the societal needs...take for example..research groups workin on renewable energies re well funded as Germany is tryin to move towards renewables and become self reliant ...such groups re nt well funded in countries like canada cos canada has oil..

All d best man.

Oga the initiative is a laudable one no doubt, but the yardstick with which one will undergo to get the loan is ludicrous. On top of that, you might no get the loan eventually.

It is a ponzi scheme....I did a detailed analysis here
