• Asked to resign, SSS seals his office From JOE EFFIONG, Uyo Less than one week after he publicly declared his intention to contest for Akwa Ibom State governorship election in 2015, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, has landed in trouble, as security agents yesterday locked his office. Daily Sun gathered that the SSG had been asked by Governor Godswill Akpabio to resign, as part of government’s policy not to have those interested in contesting 2015 election in office. It was also gathered that a massive reorganization of the Government House structure was imminent, following the expected exit of the SSG. It is expected that a new SSG will be announced within the week or next week. Although no official statement was forthcoming at press time, it was gathered that Akpabio had, in recent times, told the SSG to look for something else other than thinking of contesting for governorship. Sources revealed that the governor offered to nominate the SSG as the state’s candidate for the post of managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Umana, it was gathered, rejected the offer and had insisted on vying for the office of governor in 2015 and thereby publicly declared his intention last week. Daily Sun learnt that security agents stormed the SSG’s office early yesterday and told the permanent secretary that he had been redeployed to the state Ministry of Transport on the orders of the Head of Civil Service. While the permanent secretary was making arrangement to leave, officers and men of Directorate of State Security (DSS), in company with other security operatives, stormed the office, locked it and changed the keys. It was gathered that the decision to lock up the office of the SSG was to secure government’s property and ensure that no document was removed. After sealing off the SSG’s office, no visitor was allowed access into the premises. Also, visitors to Government House were thoroughly searched before being allowed into or out. The SSG, however, was said to have travelled out of the state since Saturday. Nobody knows whether he was aware of the coming problem before his trip. Sources revealed that a frosty relation had developed between Akpabio and Umana over the 2015 governorship election. It was gathered that last Friday, when the governor went to address PDP state executive members, he had a confrontation with the SSG when he met him and one other commissioner at the venue. Akpabio was said to have ordered Umana and the commissioner out of the meeting, stressing that they were not invited. Though Umana is from Uyo senatorial district, he had never hidden his intention to contest the 2015 governorship election assumed to have been zoned to Eket senatorial district, which has so far not produced a democratically elected governor since the state was created in 2007. Umana, a former permanent secretary and later commissioner for finance in Victor Attah’s regime, metamorphosed into a powerful and longest serving SSG since 2007. Most people thought that Akpabio would hand over to him till the recent strident demand by Eket senatorial district for the slot to be ceded to them. Akpabio, in the past, persistently said there was no zoning of governorship seat in Akwa Ibom, as he was not a product of zoning in 2007, where more than 60 aspirants came out from all the three senatorial district to contest against him. |
This thread reminds me of the saying that goes thus: 'those who 'think' they are living in glass house should not thrown stones'. Some bigots think it's wrong for 'little' Gumsu to have attacked the person of Pof. Soyinka. Pity. Now I ask: was it right when Prof Soyinka attacked the office of the President and also attacked the person of Mrs Jonathan? Such high profile Nigerians just like Soyinka is said or known to be a high profile Nigerian. People, look beyond the box! |
May God bless you and your ten generation to come. The Igbokwe guy is the most biased of all the biased people I have known. He wrote very disgusting words best classified as poo. If Dame Patience was as dumb as Turai, the Igbokwe guy would've been happier. But for the simple fact that Dr Patience Jonathan is ''shining, a gold star' , he got jealous and wishes he and his wife or mother were in the first family's shoes. Poor Igbokwe! Your kind of envy can kill. Silly Hypocrite |
billante: Joe Igbokwe you are very stupid for written this loads of garbage!May God bless you and your ten generation to come. The Igbokwe guy is the most biased of all the biased people have not. Immediately Tam West finished ranting his bitter lines as a result of his long held envy eating him up, just then I checked, behold Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan was still Nigeria's First Lady. Most innovative and is still the President's wife. Tam can have Jonathan divorce her if he's so superly educated. When Turai and her likes took Nigeria in hostage and went with Nigeria in their handbags everywhere they went, I guess n very rightly so that Tam West was busy studying to be educated... |
chei: You don't blame the policemen anyway. Nigerians are a nuisance wherever they go.And you are......? I know you'll rather describe yourself as a miscreant. |
chei: I don't know why we all care to bother about these thieves. You must be pathologically blind if you don't know what Akpabio has done with the money. |

President Obama, a feW minutes after attack on Boston marathon has addressed Americans. In his speeach, he promised citizens that his team will get to the root of the attack and any individual or groups responsible will face the full weight of justice. Obama did not say if the attack is a terrorist act or not. Rather, that the FBI is still carrying out investigation. He reassured Americans and indeed the people of Boston of support every step of the way. "We don't know who did this, people should not jump into conclusion without having facts" |

Not considering the fact that he's atop his job and placed above equals, it appears to me that the man has a very sharp hearing. Pleas don't follow voices that fall, he just act. Clemzy16: Nigerians and their inferiority complex! Did the hospital release any report that the governor has amnesia?! Amongst the delegates that paid him a visit, is any of them a medical expert?! Why then did they send a report to "SaharaRepoters" that he is brain-damaged?! What makes them thinks he knew them anyway?! Or is it now mandatory that all governors must know people occupying top public positions even if they haven't met one-on-one?! Now they wanna totally tanish the image of the poor governor. With what they have done, No doubt the governor will not be able to secure a place for second tenure if he comes back to occupy his position as governor of taraba state. So much for owning a private jet. Who's going to be NEXT?!You must be a Philosopher! |
