The number of people that will die without these socialist healthcare programs is not something anyone should imagine. A third of the country’s population. Mostly older people and of course veterans will die . (Because tricare for vets is a form of socialized medicine even though people don’t like admit it.)

Also the community clinics that are going to close, uncountable. Democrats keep fighting for them and the lives of their loved ones and all they get in return in ingratitude.

Saw many Trump voters on interview demanding Obamacare be scrapped but ask them what healthcare they have, they’ll say it’s the ACA. “Bro you’re under Obamacare. You want your healthcare gone?” Then they start staring at you vacantly because they don’t even know what’s going on. They’ve just be propagandized to so much that they’ll put their limbs on a table and hand you an axe to chop it off if they believe they’re getting back at the dems 🫢

.
ObaIgwe1:
Why do you think the person waiting for over 1yr to get a brain MRI scan chose to wait? Or are there no hospitals owned by private entities in Canada that can provide this MRI scan under 24hrs? Or what stops her from travelling abroad for it? Don't you think the problem might just be because she cannot afford the service under these private entities owned hospitals?

Now if we remove social interventions like Medicare, ACA and Medicaid that your party is doing overtime to remove, reduce Government intervention in Health Services and then promote more private entities owned hospitals, with their corporate greed, with no regulations; what percentage of Americans do you think will be able to afford these private entities owned hospitals? Don't you think if you follow this route, the waiting time for MRI Scan in US will not be worse than it is in Canada considering the population. Wrong?

I didn’t say take the profits away from healthcare. You keep trying to get me to defend a position I didn’t adopt.

I reiterate my position which is unbridled capitalism.

Take for example Two healthcare systems HCA versus Kaiser. HCA practices unbridled capitalism. They do not follow safe staffing ratios. They put critically ill patients in observation units instead of transferring out as needed. They will staff critical care nurses above the recommended safe limits so that your critically ill family member is not receiving the level of monitoring they need for their dire situation. All so they can save on staffing costs.

Kaiser practices safe staffing ratios because the law where they are mandates it. Not necessarily because they are kind angels. The regulations stipulated by the unions demand that if a patient ticks certain markers in the acuity scale, they have to be transferred to a higher level of care or their nurse has to have fewer patients to be able to adequately monitor.

Both of these companies make hundreds of billions of dollars in profit annually but only one is allowed to never feel it’s enough. To keep trying to skimp and save at the expense of human lives.

That’s the unbridled capitalism I’m talking about. Greed is king is a death drum that if we keep beating will eventually swallow us all.

For legal purposes the examples above are all alleged.

raumdeuter:
You need to see how other countries live to appreciate what you have in the US. There is no country I would rather live in than US

You want to know the impact of capitalism on Healthcare? Check the percentages of hospitals owned by private entities. Those private entities the main reasons they are building hospitals is for one major thing Money and profits. Actually private equities own about 10% of US hospitals. What do you think Private Equities are owning hospitals for?

So without the incentive for profits we will mostly be left with govt owned hospitals which only makes up 20% of current hospitals

In say a big metroplex like say Chicago if they have a total of 50 big hospitals(Trauma 1 to trauma 3), that means they will be 10 govt owned and the rest 40 hospitals will be between Faith orgaizations, charities, private ownerships including Private equities

That means these private profit seeking investment in Healthcare will employ more healthcare workers providing jobs, that means more people are covered and taken care of while the private equity makes their profit, everyone benefit

Now a scenario where we go for universal healthcare, private insurance companies leave the scene, that means the profit incentive leaves and most private investor leave the space.

A city like Chicago will go from 50 hospitals to 10 govt plus say 10 charity/faith based. So effectively from 50 to 20 hospitals. How does that not create a much bigger problem than the current system? That is how you start having people waiting for over 1yr to get a brain MRI scan where you can get in most US hospitals same day

This is why Emergency room wait times in US is about 2hrs 30mins while in Canada with Universal Healthcare its 23hours. 23hrs in ER. Then why is it EMERGENCY again?

https://www.cma.ca/latest-stories/insight-why-are-patients-spending-22-hours-emergency-room-waiting-hospital-bed

In 23hrs of waiting you can drive from Vancouver Canada to Tijuana Mexico crossing the entire US while a patient is still waiting to see a doctor in Ontario for an EMERGENCY

As someone in Healthcare you know every minute count for a patient in an emergency, Now waiting almost 1 day

Is this what you want for American healthcare? You will say no, but that is what happens when you take profit away, you take the incentive for private investors, you don't want their GREED in Healthcare, then they will take their GREED to somewhere else

This is just an example in Healthcare sector, we can do that to every sector, when you demonize profit making and call it GREED, they take their money elsewhere, the poor people suffer more

Or Do you think a rich man, his wife or kids in Canada will wait for 20hrs in an Emergency room or rather use his money to find a place he can pay and get service instantly

That is the problem with communism socialism and every variant of it, you say you want to punish the rich, eat the rich at the end of the day, the rich have other means to get by, its the poor who suffer more. Take 80% of Bezos wealth he is still rich, rather its the millions who make their living from him that will suffer

The worst form of capitalism is better than the best of communism

So are you okay with a world where USA is not the world power? That’s the loose interpretation of where all this is heading.
Let’s mind our business. Pull our forces from the all the stations across the world where we have them. Stop meddling in foreign politics. Stop providing aid to foreign countries and in turn the world will be free from our big brotherism. We’ll stop bombing countries to give them liberty. Trump can get his grimy hands out of trying to rebuild Gaza as if it’s his personal property.

Personally I wouldn’t say I’m staunchly for or against this because either way I can adjust and live my life accordingly. But are you okay with the pay cut that comes with lower value of your dollar? Remember last year you had so much national pride about why people wanted to migrate to the USA. And part of it was because of the income. You praised that.

It can’t be both. It’s either or.

raumdeuter:
Is Trump not doing the opposite? Staying away from other countries business and only caring for Americans interest

When Jamal Kashoghi was killed by the Saudi prince, another American president would have started a righteous holy war against the Saudis to teach them about democracy like Obama did to Libya that you mentioned and destabilized the entire region more than it is currently.

Trump is basically saying it's America first, we mind our business in whatever does not concern American lives. We are no longer world police using tools like USAID

Yet you complain about this Trump but hail the other interventionist US president who insert themselves into internal affair of every country

Wish I could love this more than once.

They are very oppositional to what they say they want.
I don’t know if it’s a phenomenon of “I must support my party at all costs” that’s causing this. Because if Kamala were in office and caused this market crash with financially illiterate tariffs, they wouldn’t have made the switch to suddenly supporting a market crash and higher costs for Americans.

As a matter of fact Trump ran on lying to them that Kamala would do the exact thing he’s doing now and what a terrible thing it would be. They all believed him. Now he’s doing what he accused her of and it’s suddenly a good thing? What happened between the time he was lying about that and now?

I can’t stand the shape shifting and disingenuousness of the right wing.

americans said it was not their business - until japan bombed pearl harbor. today russia is also expanding in west africa. greed is good. we are big brother nigeria and it is not our business, until we see demonstrators waving Russian flags and realize it actually is our business

charles taylor started his mess in liberia. then he expanded to sierra leone. if big brother nigeria said not our business, who know what the map would look like today ? how many more countries would taylor have destabilized in his mad dash for resources ?

i have a friend who lives in lekki. house with a high fence , dogs the whole works. for months all his neighbors were being robbed, but his house was impregnable. then one night he woke up to the robbers in his bedroom. they told him he better have something for them, because they worked to get into his house. that is what hapens with greed and bullies. it will never be enough. and if you ignore teh bullies long enough, they can grow big enough to take you one

same way american greed meant everyone was looking away and saying not my business until china became a behemoth that could not be pushed around.

America kneecapped Japanese industry in the 1980s with the semi conductor agreement. but china is more powerful and not a client state, so that will not work

neither will trumps tariffs. all that will happen is that americans purchasing power will drop, and americans will have to abandon consumerism for sustainability

America came out of W2 largely unscathed and wiser heads used that opportunity to build american hegemony. today you are cheering as it is all thrown away. would you have emigrated to an america of the low wages trump is chasing? would it have been worth it?

It’s not the govt asking for your information. It’s the company selling the gadgets. The verification method according to the post is an ID. The govt already has your information anyway.

Yes I agree parents should monitor their kids. But that can’t be the only solution otherwise we wouldn’t require establishments to use ID verification before selling alcohol. We would tell all parents to monitor their kids and make sure they don’t buy alcohol.

Everyday247:
Actually, there are problems:

Firstly, it's parents responsibility to monitor their kids online activities not the government's. If parents want to protect their children from having access to these gadgets, maybe they shouldn't give their children access to the internet in the first place.

Secondly, issue of privacy: do people want the government having a database of their personal information?
I mean in today's world people are not okay with big Tech having their private info and now the government is now demanding for it.

Thirdly, what age verification method do they plan to use?
If it's just the "I agree I'm 18" button all explicit website already have that.
But if it's facial verification, how can they tell who's under age and who's not?
How do you tell the difference between a 17 year old and an 18 old using photo alone?

People need to analyse the law made by lawmakers critically else they may accidentally elect tyrants into office. tongue

Millions of Acres of Forest Vulnerable
Increased Logging Incoming!
Last week, on April 3, 2025, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins issued a Secretarial Memo to expedite logging on over 100 MILLION ACRES of Forest Service lands.

Yes, we already do logging on forest lands, but typically after thorough review of cultural resources, environmental impacts, and endangered species risk. This new directive wants to side step these safeguards.
This "emergency" memo is in response to President Trump's Executive Order "Immediate Expansion of American Timber Production".
The Secretarial Memo is a part of a multi-pronged plan, alongside attempts to massively reduce capacity at the Forest Service to fight the wildfire crisis and properly manage the national forests. It would have the following damaging effects:
- Making timber production - rather than community protection - the focus of Forest Service wildfire mitigation work.
- Declaring nearly 60 percent of all national forest lands to be in a state of "emergency" requiring reduced public involvement and environmental safeguards.
- Short-cutting numerous environmental laws, such as those designed to protect endangered species and cultural resources, under the guise of an "emergency" to increase timber production.
- Advancing the Trump Administration agenda to reduce Forest Service personnel by eliminating public input and scientific review of logging projects.

Half the time you guys are raving against communism you can’t even differentiate between that and socialism. Just repeating what your party leaders tell you is fact.

Just cause you say Kamala had a communist agenda doesn’t make it so. What it means is that you guys are unable to comprehend for yourselves what those systems actually mean but you believe it’s going to happen because republican leaders told you so.

What actually ends up happening is that you vote to extend your retirement age. Increase lack of access to affordable healthcare. Promote authoritarianism and fascism like is clearly happening now. And of course your chances of going bankrupt from a simple hospital stay skyrockets.

As someone in healthcare I’ll tell you for free that you would be more at risk under unbridled capitalism than any other system. Like you said when that CEO was shot in NY, the insurance companies have to make money and if it be at the cost of our lives or the lives of our loved ones, then so be it. Those were your sentiments.

The reason why we don’t have a healthcare catastrophe on our hands at the moment is because of socialist healthcare programs like Obamacare, Medicare and Medicaid. Remove these systems that democrats have fought to defend for the people and adopt strict capitalist healthcare systems and watch America combust.

You (generic) would be left to die because saving you won’t be profitable. That’s unbridled capitalism for you. Be careful what you wish for.

To reiterate, there’s need for a balanced checked capitalist economy. Not unbridled capitalism where greed is king. If you don’t agree, I have nothing else to say to you on the topic of capitalism versus other economic systems.

I’m not arguing for communism and that statement about the left turning us to USSR is just plain false. You know that too.

Glad we can agree on the faults of capitalism. I think something can be done about these faults. Nothing left unchecked turns out well. The greed that’s the driving force of capitalism left unchecked will lead to our ruin. We will be a desolate wasteland where even the bots will be killing each other and their makers to amass whatever is left for themselves.

I think there can be a balance. Otherwise it’s just going to be anarchy down the line for the next generation.

raumdeuter:
From examples we have seen Capitalist societies are by far the most succesful while the others bring untold poverty and misery

I saw a video of Cuba a few ays ago and you cant even feel safe walking the street when everyone there is obviously poor, and wretched, a place where Meical doctors earn the equivalent of $40 a month. Why parents throw their kids on wooden rafts to enter prosperity in the US

The prosperity that Capitalism brings is why the same people of similar genes risk bullets and landmines to move from North Korea to South Korea
It was why East Germans flooded to West Germany and not the other way round

Capitalism for all its flaws is by far incomparable to other systems which breeds poverty and misery

Human beings are naturally greedy and Greed is what drives innovation.

If the left have their way, we will be like USSR now full fledged communism

That’s why I pick who I support between the two parties carefully.
For a while now you might have heard how the Democrats are communists etc. it’s because the Democratic Party has been the party interested in protecting worker’s rights, protecting the environment, curbing corporate greed etc. Republicans spin it as communism and sell it to their voters as the worst thing ever and they run with it.

If not for the efforts of democrats, the small regulations and standards we have now, we wouldn’t have them. Republicans always want to pay the lowest wages possible, keep children out of school to go labor and reward oligarchs with more and more profits. It has gotten too top heavy and at the risk of collapse from the top down.

Trump is a symptom not a solution to this systemic problem. People want to laud him for being a billionaire but forget all his products are manufactured in China at the cost of cents and he resells them here at a bewildering profit margin. He’s the embodiment of the problem.

I don’t think any other system is 100% better than capitalism but they can be combined and curtailed where necessary so that everyone can thrive. Communism might deter innovation but unbridled capitalism will lead us to a Mad Max like apocalyptic era.
Flat socialism might not be the solution but it has its uses in the society not just for propping up billionaires.

Exactly. America is on a different timeline in manufacturing. Highly inflated currency. Bigger wages. Publicly traded companies with investors who expect each quarter to be better than the last. Unending greed. There’s no way another country is going to get anything from us at a more affordable rate unless it’s something they can’t make for themselves.
China doesnt play fair, they manipulate their currency, they pay low wages, they dont care about their workers etc, Its either US meet them in using the same tactics or find other ways to counter them through tariffs
We either keep reaping the benefits of those bigger wages and let things be the way they are or we come down to their level and then we can compete at the same standard. I do think this is an American problem that we shouldn’t blame others for. Tariffs will make us suffer more and if punishing Americans was the goal, then that solution makes sense. But I thought the goal was to make life easier for the average American.

How can more regulations, taxing the rich and strong unions bring manufacturing, those 3 are all anti manufacturing. These are all the things absent in China which is why they are the manufacturing hub of the world
You just pointed out how China pays dirt and uses child labor. They think we can have it both ways. Keep the dollar high and force other countries to trade with it.

Then force them to buy from us at a more expensive rate than they would be getting making it themselves.

Pull all aid from the rest of the world but somehow maintain world power and keep hundreds of our military bases in other countries.

It’s showing a deeper lack of understanding of what makes America what it is. If they’re okay with a less powerful America, zero American bases in other countries and less potent currency, then they can say that. Child labor violations have been soaring in the US, but efforts to render solutions through legislation have received little support, and Republicans at the state level continue pushing bills that would roll back current child labor protections.

In most recent fiscal year, the US Department of Labor wage and hour division reported 835 cases of child labor violations affecting 3,876 minors, and 688 minors employed in violation of hazardous occupation, a 283% increase since 2015. Civil penalties against employers totaled just under $4.3m.
This is from the guardian. I encourage you to look more into bills passed by republicans to remove child labor protections

Ask those who work for Chinese employers in Nigeria vs those who work for American employers in Nigeria to tell you the difference
I’m not in support of Chinese manufacturing practices. Not saying the USA has the best practices but definitely better than them. And do you know why the higher USA standards exist? If American minimum wage is 10x the next trading partner, whose fault is it that the trading partner would be seeking more affordable options? We have this massively inflated currency that we force other countries to trade with. It’s to our benefit. But We can’t turn back and pretend that their currencies being weaker than ours doesn’t have an impact on how much more expensive buying from us is. I’m no economist but isn’t this obvious? Someone with a degree in international economics should correct me if I’m wrong please.

3) Now let’s talk about how I really feel about American manufacturing and jobs here. Because you’re either making assumptions about me now or conveniently forgotten that I’ve in the past spoken out about corporations shipping jobs abroad due to greed and maximizing profits. To which you whipped out your classic defense of greedy corporations and how profit is the ultimate holy grail. We could have manufacturing here if corporations would take a pay cut.

5) it’s rich that you suddenly care about American jobs. I thought no one owed anyone else a job? Wasn’t that your response to the mass layoffs? I digress but it can’t be ignored so I had to point it out.

6) I would love a boost in American manufacturing if done correctly. Putting tariffs first. Causing a crash in the market and hike in prices with no alternatives yet is a silly way to go about it.

7) Do you know there’s a world in which manufacturing happens in America, workers are paid fairly and the products don’t have to cost an arm and a leg? The only trade off would be that the companies don’t get to take in gargantuan profits with each quarter being better than the last. They would make good money still but that won’t satisfy their greed and knowing you, you’d rather support suffering for more expensive products than for billionaires to take a pay cut. So if you’re not in support of a system where we can make this happen, then you just like Trump are not yet serious about bringing manufacturing back to America.

Someone said the only success he’s ever had was playing a successful businessman on reality television and that was the truest thing I’ve ever heard about him.
GloriousGbola:
That is the real pointer here. There is documented history. Unfortunately Americans watched and swallowed a scripted reality TV show and convinced themselves that barking you're fired is the hall mark of a competent businessman. Maybe if Kim Kardashian starts her own apprentice show she will have a shot in the future. She too is a billionaire, after all.

America is the biggest market in the world, everyone wants to sell to America. If American market is not buying your products you are not going far, but these countries don't want America to sell to them to protect their own economy they place a tariff on American goods coming into their own country

The trade off is cheap goods in America vs Employment for people in America
This didn’t address the cost of buying from America. Even at minimum wage (which a lot of people already don’t want to work for), the cost of paying American workers eclipses the cost of paying workers in other countries.

What’s your proposal on how these countries can make purchasing from us affordable for them at the rate they pay their workers?

So enviroment dey affect skin color?? grin grin i no understand
Yes. The level of melanin in your skin can fluctuate depending on the amount of direct sunshine (uvrays) you experience. It’s your body’s defense mechanism. If you’re extremely dark skin the color change might not be noticeable but if you’re somewhere between brown and light skin, it can be very noticeable.

Let your unions always have the upper hands.
Something we can agree on

But do you know who is anti union in America?

Not the left. Red states are notorious for being anti union.
Just days before workers at a Mercedes-Benz plant in Alabama began voting last week on whether to unionize, Republican Gov. Kay Ivey signed a new law that would claw back state incentives from companies that voluntarily recognize labor unions.

Alabama’s move follows similar efforts in Georgia and Tennessee, where GOP leaders also have passed laws pushing against a reinvigorated labor movement.

These new laws speak to the growing push of labor unions into Southern states — and the fierce opposition of pro-business GOP leaders there. For decades, the region has attracted investments from foreign automakers with lucrative tax breaks, low-cost labor and a lack of labor unions. Labor leaders hope that is changing now that workers at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, overwhelmingly endorsed a union in April, becoming the first foreign auto plant in the South ever organized by the United Auto Workers.

Unions such as the UAW argue their involvement can help boost wages and improve the work environment at auto plants. But GOP forces in the South view unions as an existential threat to their manufacturing economies — of even more importance now that states are increasingly competing for electric vehicle and battery plants.

Mercedes-Benz workers outside of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Friday voted against joining a union at their plant, in a setback for the labor movement. But more organizing drives are underway in Alabama and South Carolina, as well as in California.

Another option is making imported goods as expensive as locally manufactured goods. Which is what every country does to American goods, they make sure it’s more expensive than their local goods.
Conveniently ignoring the value of the dollar. Other countries did not make our products expensive just because. It’s expensive mostly because Americans can’t work for the same amount of money laborers in those countries accept. You guys want us to keep being the giant of the world with the fattest incomes hence the reason people rush to migrate here. It comes at a cost.

Are you okay with the devaluation of the dollar? Let your income have the same purchasing power as someone who makes the same amount of money in China? If yes then we are off to a workable start. But I promise you a lot of people won’t like that

What’s even this guy’s problem?

Surely this is intentional at this point. He has to be trying to sabotage National Security.
The National Security Council (NSC) has clarified reporting about National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and his staffers using personal Gmail accounts for government communications.

A report published by the Washington Post on Tuesday claimed that one of Waltz's senior aides used Gmail "for highly technical conversations with colleagues at other government agencies involving sensitive military positions and powerful weapons systems relating to an ongoing conflict," according to the piece.

"While the NSC official used his Gmail account, his interagency colleagues used government-issued accounts, headers from the email correspondence show," the Post reported.

The piece comes a week after Waltz took responsibility for one of his staffers accidentally adding The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to a sensitive Signal chat with other officials, including Vice President JD Vance.
