There is a difference between coup plotters who happened to be ibos and ibos. The coup plotters failed so we will never know their intentions. Because the ibos that took over after the failed coup were the typical ibos, they acted in typical ibo fashion hence their brothers were not tried and Awolowo remained in prison, decree34 was promulgated etc.

Like I have said many times, there is evidence to show that the coup plotters may have been revolutionary, patriotic, nationalist and not sectarian……unfortunately for them and history……and for the ibos, they failed! So we will never truly know.

What I will say is that the coup plotters do not represent typical ibos and they ended up handing over power to typical establishment ibos who acted like typical fashion. We don’t know. On the balance of probability, I am willing to believe it wasn’t an ibo coup but the actions of the ibos since have not helped their perception.
