davidif: Like bro, that statement in itself is just staggering! Like how is that even possible? Like where in the world is a football team state owned? can someone tell me? Can you imagine Bayern Munich being run by their State govt? This is why things don't work in this country because almost every sector is state owned. The fact that most Nigerians still don't understand the role and limitations of govt still blows my mind. Like there are some things that govt should do and there are some things they should stay away from. Let me give you an example. During the OBJ administration, the govt told Shell to come help them run their refineries but Shell turned them down. They said NO! they don't want to work with the amateurs and the unqualified people the govt and I don't blame Shell for that. Can you imagine working with govt appointees who you didn't hire and who are not qualified? do you know how frustrating that could be? who is going to take the blame when things don't work out? Shell? the govt? That's the same thing we are dealing with almost every aspect of life in Nigeria. Can you imagine a govt appointee running an oil refinery or a football club? Imagine how horribly run both organizations will be. Nigeria's problem is not only corruption but mismanagement and this one of the examples of mismanagement. Govt needs to learn to stay in there lane for goodness sakes. It is the company a person works for that trains that person.. they contacted Shell so that Shell will transfer knowledge to Nigerians but S:hell been an exploitative and colonial company did not agree. Aramco is owned by the Saudi govt.. In Nigeria, the problem is people like you expect people that are not indigenes of the oil rich states to run the oil industry in those states effectively and thats impossible.. Don't expect northerners or Yorubas or whyte people to empower those states.. |

N3TRAL: The bold does not negate the influence of natural selection and "survival of the fittest" as it regards birth rates in pre-colonial Africa.
For instance, we are more prone to sickle cell Anaemia which used to be Obanje, Abiku and other concepts in our languages.
A typical AS dominated family who married other carriers knew they had to marry more wives and give birth to as many children as possible to stand a chance for having successors.
If they were sure that all their children would live, they would have fewer children.
Another angle is the effect of misogyny. A typical father of 15 daughters would not stop procreation until he had a son. People with sickle cell will live longer in pre-colonial Africa than now due to the fact there were more trees and more natural foods than now. More trees mean access to more oxygen which improves blood flow. |

N3TRAL: Lol.
We live longer than those before us. Most of our ancestors couldn't even make it to 25.
It was why people had many children because they definitely expected most to not make it past the age of 2.
An infection that ampicilin could cure wiped out most families.
Thanks to science, we now live better. People had many children because a persons wealth was determined by the amount of children the person had.. Many people in Nigeria are over 90 years old.. The life expentancy you're quoting was written by Europeans who do everything to ensure black people don't live long so such statistics is expected from them.. |

Gerrard59: Congratulations to OP. I am really for you as I know it must have been a huge struggle to pull through.
As for the back-biting, I am not surprised as I have stated here that the older generation in the UK seems to be annoyed or envious (how easy the immigrant routes are these days) of recent migrants. Also, they have this classist mentality that "I have been here before you. So know your place". This is largely mired in poverty as it applies to other migrants from the developing world. Although, a way to counter such is to tighten the immigration system so that only the best and brightest have access to the country. Such as legal immigration to the US and Singapore. Indians in the US are highly respected than their counterparts in Canada.
As for people making it in Nigeria, that is very true. There are people who have very high-paying jobs in Nigeria and live very well (legal money). However, their conditions cannot be used to describe the entire Nigeria. I recall my ex-boss lamenting about Nigeria's politicians, people he praised regularly when he used the roads to his state or somewhere in Kogi. He was shocked at how dangerous the roads were. This is someone who rarely leaves Lagos without flying. This is the same mistake this new set of elites make every day - siddon for Lagos and Abuja then christen everyone in Nigeria as "doing well". To be fair though, I don't expect any less from APC supporters. The reason I don't debate the state of Nigeria with them. Although, I still believe Nigeria holds more entrepreneurial economic opportunities than most countries in Africa aside from South Africa. However, it is important to state that Nigeria goes beyond Lagos and Abuja at least for economic reasons.
The last two years must have been tough for Nigerian students in the UK (especially older ones who are married and with children). As I have stated countless times, should the economy get to pre-2015 levels, MANY Nigerians would gladly return. Many would still return anyway but at a later date. Reading their stories further makes me to be grateful towards the Japanese. I was so pampered and afforded ample financial and economic opportunities here. To be fair though, I had the requisite experience from Nigeria, attended a top university here, worked on the language and I am unmarried with no children. Nevertheless, the Japanese have been so good to me, and I deeply appreciate it. MT: My problem with you guys is talking down a country whose passport you hold.
Stop cursing the country. Stop being happy when you see things not working.
At the end of the day, you can never be accepted where you are eyeing.
Do constructive criticism.
Either you make or not, it is not my problem. Respect your own country of birth. Stop acting like a bastard Countries tailor their economy to work for the benefit of its indigenes or at worse its citizens.. Nigeria is a location on the world map named by the B:ritish and it consists of at least 7 different countries with different economies in other words there is no ethnicity known as Nigerians and the SW economy is different from the NW economy which is different from the SE economy which is also different from the SS economy.. All 36 states and the FCT are different economies.. Do not use Lagos or the SW economy to judge the lives and economic situation of people living in the NW or SE or SS or anywhere else outside SW Nigeria. SW is built and tailored to work for the benefit of Yoruba people. SS is tailored to work for the benefit of Binis, ijaws, igbos, Efik and other indigenes. SE is tailored to work for the benefit of igbos. e.t.c.. so when you say people are " Making it in Nigeria ".. be specific about the state or region in Nigeria where they are " making it " because it is not the reality of all Nigerians.. |

I just wanted to comment @OP that this helping/cooperation thing is cultural. If it's not inherent in your culture as a people, it is not there! It can't change. Even within a family, we compete against each other to show who is doing better than the other, instead of help one another. That's within a family o... Let alone strangers you don't know. I can't talk about Ghanaians and other Africans but you see Yorubas are the worst! In terms of helping or cooperating to achieve, they are the most useless tribe/set of people. Most arrogant, self-conceited, selfish tribe. A Hausa man can shortlist other Hausa men for Jobs just by seeing their names that they are Northerners but Yorubas will never want to see another of their tribe do well. They prefer to even see other tribes in that position than another Yoruba person. Useless! Lies.. In Yoruba culture, when a person becomes successful he or she must uplift family members before outsiders it's only when the Yoruba person is suffering from inferiority complex they help outsiders and tend to overdo for outsiders instead of their family members or fellow Yorubas. |

PEACE2023: The north goes to the farm, how many Southerners goes to the farm? But we want to eat, transporting food from North to south is money. So you have to buy it with the cost of transportation. The south needs to think again The south does not eat farm products from the north... Southern Nigerians have their own indigenous foods which is different from northern Nigerians. If you are truly a Nigerian then you should know these. Nigeria is a multi ethnic country where each ethnic nation has it's own indigenous foods and delicacies... Which means each ethnic nation have their own set of farmers which is also why when the north did a food blockade it only affected northerners.. You guys are talking as if Southern Nigerians don't farm and as if Southern farmers are not been killed by northerners who want to take over the supply and sale of food in the south. |

Chuckwueze is more creative than Iwobi? In the 1st leg match against Lybia, Chukwueze would have had an assist if the Linesman was not incompetent... Chukwueze was in the AM position when he made that assist to Lookman. S.E defense needs to move the ball to the Iwobi in central midlfield then Iwobi moves it to either of Simon, Chukwueze and Ejuke. no player offers more than the other player..
