All year long we have been emphasizing the need to patronized Naija to grow Naija and one thing we have very well in Nigeria is cocoa.

It also happens to the time of the year for gift-sharing and chocolates are universally accepted gifts so I like to know about presentable Nigerian made chocolate and cocoa products.

I will list some of the ones I come across too.
Business › Re: Removing Import Restrictions Will Lift 1.3M Nigerians Out Of Poverty– World Bank by CodeTemplar: 3:17pm On Dec 17, 2023

Your understanding of economics is poor.

First, monetization was sold to the OBJ by Soludo and not the World Bank. The FG was spending huge sums of money managing civil servants quarters, their drivers and so on. You can be sure it was a very wasteful and expensive. By monetizing their housing and other things, this trimmed down waste and excessive spending.

Or what would you prepare: for government to provide 25m to renovate the government owned 4 bedroom duplex allocated to a civil servant or to give the civil servant 2m a year as housing allowance Or the civil servant has an official car and driver. How much do you think they will spend on buying a new car and managing it? One just has to take a look at the senators and legislators to know how much is wasted. It is best the civil servants are given transport allowance instead. You'd be surprised many will sack the driver and prefer to drive themselves to work with their tokunbo car, even if it is End of Discussion.

What do you mean by coming out of SAP? Babangida poorly implemented SAP. One of the foundation of a Structural Adjustment Policy is for budget deficits to below 2% or for the the budget to balance. The government did the very opposite and had huge budget deficits and printed money. The printing of money was what caused the high inflation during the Babangida years and the persistent depreciation of the Naira.

I don's understand you people. The same advise World Bank will give you is no different from what Pat Utomi will recommend. The same advise

Also, many who work in the World Bank and IMF are from Third world nations. Okonjo-Iweala was a former high-up in the World Bank. President Quattara of Ivory Coast was formerly with the IMF.

Was it not during the era of Okonjo Iweala that the nation accumulated $20bn in the excess crude fund, paid of $30bn in foreign debt and left $60bn in the foreign reserves, probably the highest ever on record? She was fortunate to have a listening president as well.
Same Iweala couldn't override the lack of political will to of Jonathan regime to help swell the ECA.
I must also add that same Iweala demanded to be paid in dollars under Obasañjo only to later cry out about dollarization of local economy under GEJ when things started going south.

They are all humans with western brains at the end of the day. Why isn't the west getting rid of subsidy and welfare or advise from IMF to?

What does it profit you to be so dishonest because of hatred of others along political, religious and sectional lines?

What is the lie in the claim our population is unsustainably and unproductively too much? Do you not walk the streets of Nigeria?

Or You live on Mars not to see the number of destitutes on our streets? What does the APC or any Party have to do with an illiterate couple, with no employable skills, having 6 children they then send into traffic everywhere to beg? Are those kids, missing out on education and invariably growing up on the streets, not automatically condemned to become armed robbers, bandits, terrorist, Cultist and general menaces to society of tomorrow?

Abi Tinubu should develop millions of clones of himself so he can be present in every nook and corner to prevent grown adults from having irresponsible sex that leads to children they cannot raise?

Is turning every Nigerian adult to a child, and absolving them of adult responsibility just so you can rant at leaders, sensible at all?

Why is it so difficult for some of you to rise above petty sentiments to look at issues dispassionately like productive Human Resources of other nations can do?

You even deny what a kid can admit just to rant at APC. Do you not understand the more adult Nigeria has who can take a solution-driven approach to problem the better for our nation?

Our detrimentally large population is a big problem every sensible adult Nigerian must face and play their part to alleviate. Starting with those having kids irresponsibly like Rabbits when they have no hope at all of raising those kids optimally.
I find that phrase of "unproductively too much" a paradox.

If 1000 men produce N1000 of goods it is better than only 100 men producing at same rate. What we need is to make people more productive so that their efforts largely takes care of their needs unlike what we have where everyone looks up to resources to handle needs. It was this push to limit of resource that triggered printing of money to chase dwindling supplies and thus triggered inflation. Population only have to be more productive than destructive/consuming to be a blessing.
Politics › Re: Population Outgrows Economy Amid Rising Dependants, Misery by CodeTemplar: 1:29am On Dec 16, 2023
TopBanter:
Look, this is not about using population as excuses for anything. Nigeria has a large population that is near worthless with majority of the fault due to irresponsible choices adult make.

Of course we should still task leaders to lead well but that should not detract from the reality of the negative long term impact of too many Nigerian adults having too many kids than they can raise optimally to becoming productive and self-sufficient adult.

A family with an illiterate mother and father , who both have little skills for anything more than menial jobs, will irresponsibly give birth to six kids they will send out to beg in the streets when those kids should be attending school.

Is that not perpetuating generational poverty in that family that should appreciate the reality of Nigeria yet still went on to have six kids?

Would it not be better if those adult use their commonsense and foresight to settle on having one kid they can manage to raise well who may then help to elevate that family out of poverty by becoming a skilled professional?

What do those sort of considerations have to do with leadership rather than irresponsible choices adults make?

The large population of unskilled illiterates Nigeria has is not to be blamed on the government alone. Look at the North where the people constitute 87% of the most poverty-stricken Nigerians alive yet some families there keep having 10 kids or more.

Are you going to argue that is the fault of the Government as well and that grown adults don’t have the commonsense to appreciate it is wrong to bring into the world children you will be highly unlikely to take care of properly?
...I wonder who liked your post four times.

Population is a strength under normal circumstances. Our case is that of low productivity fuelled by unrealistic.dependence on natural resources. Those poor, large families in the north have food that's why they can reproduce in the first place and food takes as high as 60% of the average Nigerians earnings. Someone with 60% of needs met isn't the poorest of the poor among us. Let be honest.
Politics › Re: Japa Syndrome: Nigeria’s Political Class Will Face The Consequences Soonest by CodeTemplar: 1:13am On Dec 16, 2023
Japa syndrome can be used to our advantage locally if we have just 25% of good leadership. Their earning power here is much lower compared to abroad. Instead let them go and let their replacements be trained at higher rate. Lets learn from India. Remittances is a sizable part of their economy. I think it is much easier to position Nigeria for $25Bb remittances annually than growing the economy by that amount.

Nobody will brave insecurity to try and be a billionaire in certain parts of this country. The dreams are people are fading away faster and that's the root cause of japa thing.

I am sure import restriction is creating and sustaining jobs.

99% civilization?

Last time I checked civilization started from Africa (Egypt and Ethiopia) and you know what? Egyptians were tagged "anti-God people" by "God's people"
if life started from point X, commonsense should tell you the early civilization will start there. As long as the people there didn't create themselves they have nothing to boast about there. It is just a privilege by God.

Even if you chose to be boastful, it will only mean Africa is backward because they one led the race and have long been blown away in the race to the point, we are the last, though most favoured.

Anti God people? Hellooo

Who are God's people? A white man told a story and recorded it in the book that his tribe are the chosen ones and God's people... while depicting the people of Africa as evil... instead of Africans to write theirs own beauty stories about how God is actually for us and chose us.... we believed theirs without questioning

Africans must be satanic people then.
And that just so happens to be the human race's number one tribe by accidents right?
They gave us 99% of civilization. That tribe also manage to know the earth's details in the book they documented their tribal exploits so accurately science is playing catch up right?

We have a mandate thief who snatched power from the alternative Nigerians chose. PDP messed up was dumped. APC have done far worse and are carefully resisting their rejection. Obi or LP are no saints but it was a slap on the faces of Nigerians for Buhari to forcefully handover to Tinubu after the catastrophic performance of his party. A performance much worse than PDP'a own both Buhari and Tinubu openly condemned in the past.

Nigeria cant implement the same because Nigeria gives no one benefits. Which unemployed dey receive benefit for here or wey free heath care, basic school or community maintenance. These people abroad dey receive some free benefits but dem no one give the society back, na hin be the issue here. I learnt that some people even give birth to as many children in Germany in order to receive govt benefits while they willingly remain unemployed; they only live by the free money govt. gives those children.

When Nigeria begins to give free benefits, then the govt. would have the right to do same; but for now, no govt. can force anyone to work here; the folks are free.
our benefit structure is different. They take oil money and employ idle hands all over. That's a form of benefit.

Subsidy was a form of benefit too. It was a enjoy as you use benefiththat got cancelled and rechannelled to the elites. Cheap healthcare is another. Education too is there.

Do you think the trillions of dollars looking for investment destinations gives a damn about yoyr economic illiterate ideas.

You throw away established and well defended economics for which some have even won Nobel prizes for in exchange for your bunkum.

The very same.negative interest rates which you ignorantly crave for is what Recep Erdogan is implementing which has left inflation in Turkey sky high.

The long established rule which Soludo, Sanusi and even Emefiele followed was to keep Centeal Banks rates higher than inflation. This encourages savings and discourages borrowing. This helps to mop up cash in the economy. The more money that is absorbed, the less money is available, reducing inflation.

The foreign investors Tinubu he is chasing all over the world would be wary diving in.
same economists who ruined our system are the ones you are following sheepishly. I am sure in turkey they don't export cocoa to import chocolate or export lithium to import battery or export crude to import diesel and petrol. I am sure their CBN gov don't wait for oil prices to peak before local currencies strengthen. I am sure thieves don't write letter to residents in advance and still rob them successfully in Turkey.
I am sure there are no bandits who form govt side by side with Erdogan and levy farmers.

He pointed out that what the country lacks is full commitment and investment in rice cultivation on the part of the government, and that countries we are importing rice from, such as Indonesia, Pakistan, and India, support their rice farmers with improved seedlings and modern equipment.
Nairalanda1, blue3k, omohayek and grandstar should come and see how comparative advantage in profuction are created by serious government.

They pick their targeted produce based on global price level, competitiveness, nutritional profile, then give local producers competitive edge in form of cheap inputs, machinery, seeds, fertilizer among other. No country wakes up with competitive advantage on a platter any longer. They come up with interventions and policies that propels cheaper production and local consumption in addition to export petentials.
The reason we sell cocoa to import chocolate is same reason we are crying about rice today.
