You don't know anything about governance. Tax is your contribution directly or indirectly into the national purse for the running of the nation.
Governance is a criminal enterprise. Nobody should be coerced with instruments of violence to part with their hard won wealth. That is why taxation is theft. All contributions to any so-called common good must be voluntary. Anything else is a banditry.

When these characters say the "North", you will think they are concerned about the ordinary people in the North. What you would not know is that just like their counterparts from other parts of the country, they are only concerned about the thieving elite.

This is why you hear statements like "the <put in your geographical indicator> has been neglected in this administration". On the other hand, the <geographical indicator> has cornered everything for themselves. Meanwhile, the uninformed morons will not realize that they are only talking about a few members of the rapacious elite.

Do they enter villages and randomly shoot innocents?

THEY DON’T and they WON’T.

You yourself know they won’t.

We know how bad guys operate in the south.

It’s what’s happening in the NORTH that is wrecking our country and causing international news headlines so damaging for the country.
There is nothing that stops guys from the south from shooting up innocents or kidnapping even thousands of kids if they will get 50 Million Dollars every year. Actually, I know a few guys that will do it for less.

I didn’t say make a one-off payment.

I said pay them 50 million dollars EVERY YEAR.

It’s a PITTANCE, compared to what we stand to gain from the ending of insecurity.

The yearly corporate tax of just ONE major foreign investor company that comes in, following a more secure, safe environment, is enough to pay that money.
Have you considered that if you pay one set of criminals in one part of the country, another set will pop up in another part of the country. Kidnapping was previously restricted to one small corner of the country, now it affects virtually the whole country.

Obi is not an angel but will do better.
Are you aware that more than 60% of the nations budget goes to running government and other useless expenses.

One has to start somewhere to repair damages.
It is just that most of that 60% are fixed costs like civil service salaries. Some of the headline making expenses that cause the outrage are not that consequential, they are just insensitive. So Obi might do marginally better but it will take a long time to unfvck the mess that Mumuharri has created.

You're valid ma'am
The reason some yorubas like myself rooted for obi was because of his prudency and shrewdness in management of public affairs and finance.
At this critical point when we need to shore up our dwindling finance, Obi would never have appointed 48ministers, he would never have budget have approved new cars for NASS members.
We went to it blindly but our eyes are wide open now. God will see us through is the only prayer I have for whoever doesn't play an active role in foisting this mistake on us .
I was one of PO's cheerleaders when he was governor because I liked his prudent, program based approach to governance. However, I didn't support his presidential bid because I don't believe that anyone no matter how competent will be able to dig us out of the hole we have found ourselves.

We need fundamental structural and even constitutional reforms to surmount the challenges we face. I hope to be proven wrong but this is just the beginning of our troubles. If and when a) Ukraine and Russia get tired of killing each other and b)Saudi Arabia is able to extract the security guarantees it needs from the USA, oil prices will crash, That is when our real crises will actually begin.

PoliticsRe: Buhari Emefiele's $15billion Secret Loans Expose by Collyweed: 9:27pm On Aug 12, 2023
seunmsg:
In simple terms, the $30billion reserve as at the end of last year was actually $17billion as the $13billion balance was actually a secret loan meant to beef up the reserve so as to be able to defend the Naira at the fixed exchange rate.

One thing is clear though, we can’t continue to fix the exchange rate. We just don’t have the foreign exchange to keep defending the Naira. The Naira must find its level going forward except we can find a way to earn more forex or spend less forex.

Again, this is another reason why we can’t return to the subsidy regime. In fact, Nigeria might collapse economically in the next 8 years if the reforms introduce by Tinubu are not fully implemented.

I really pity Tinubu and other policy makers who have to deal with this mess. It’s going to be a very rough and tough ride going forward.
Collapse in 8 years? You're spending all your revenue on debt servicing and you're still talking about collapse. How much more broke can you get?

As for Tinubu, I don't feel sorry for him one bit. He was smart enough to know what a disaster Buhari was going to be but he enabled him. Well BAT has inherited a mess. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.

Ghana are sending their force, just like Nigeria, Benin, Liberia and so on... This is ECOWAS war and victory is certain.

Remove your mind from Ghana. Ask Ecomog soldiers about their experience working with their Ghanian counterparts? Ghanians did almost no fighting.

If the nasty stuff starts, you can be sure that Nigeria will bear most of the cost of what may possibly be an epic misadventure. I detest military rule but the proposed medicine is worse than the disease.

I am frankly shocked people still believe all these fairy tales in this day and age.

Oyibo invaded the Benin, burnt the city, looted to their heart's content and bundled the Oba away. This is after the Benin had spent dayss conducting human sacrifices at an industrial scale. Yet all the juju they prepared could not thwart the invasion.

Same Oyibo attacked Ijebu (for preventing their access to the hinterlands). Again the Ijebu were routed in a couple of hours of fighting after all the human sacrifice juju.

For the past 63 years various wicked rulers have been holding the entire country hostage. Yet no juju has been able to stop them. Yet people still keep yapping nonsense about juju. Can't they tell that it's a big scam?

Seun has always Been part of the problem... But it's sad that it's now that you people are seeing it because the Igbos are directly affected!!

I joined nairaland with my heart devoid of Tribalism... I'm not even a Muslim but an agnostic atheist who deviated from religion a very long time ago... So there's no any element of religious bigotry in me...

I only come here as of then to tell people about the north, the development, culture and political happening that most southerners have no understanding of...

I do come Here to clear Major misconceptions about the north... I spent years Here on Nairaland defending my region from people who their only aim in life is just to paint her black in every ramifications...

Yes the north is not perfect... And no region in Nigeria is better.... What we all need is consistent development in both human and infrastructure to get there....

I came here and discovered that the only thing sustaining this forum financially is ethno religious hate... The only thing keeping the forum alive is tribalism especially against the north.

At least the Igbos and the Yorubas on this forum get some protection And immunity... But northerner!!

Do you know how many times I was ban for posting beautiful picture of the north??

Do you know how many time I got ban for firing back at trolls?? While non of the trolls get banned??

Do you know that most beautiful thread I creat about northern development don't make it to the front page at some point??

Nairaland made it an agenda to frustrate every northerner out from this forum.

I stood strong... And remain resilience until I decide that it's OK, let move to somewhere that is more free, civilize and better which is Twitter...

And Thanks to the universe i have made a lot of progress there...
I don't believe anybody has ever had their opinions changed about anything because of something they read on Nairaland or Twitter. I could have advised you not to bother with the highlighted.

The format (maybe because of the anonymity) supports people shouting over each other and general trolling. There is nothing Seun can do about that. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Tribalism is a natural instinct. Even if we all belonged to one ethnic group, it could be something else maybe even football clubs. That is the way we humans evolved. It is stupid but then again most people are rather dim.

PARIS SYNDROME

A mental disorder that is more amusing than it is freaky, Paris syndrome is defined as a sense of heavy disappointment by some individuals who – upon visiting Paris – experience extreme reality shock due to the city not living up to their expectations.

This highly novel condition comes with very real symptoms such as hallucinations, anxiety, dizziness, sweating, and vomiting, and can all be attributed to facing up to the large disconnect between what a sufferer had imagined Paris to be versus what the city really is.

The condition has been reported mostly amongst Japanese tourists who are obsessed with the prospect of visiting Paris and experiencing the beautiful culture and sights, but – upon their arrival – are overwhelmed by the language barrier, difference in formalities, and jet lag.

Add to that the shattering of the image of Paris portrayed in Japanese media (scuffed up sneakers instead of designer shoes everywhere, or fast food joints instead of alfresco-style cafes along the street, etc), and you have an intensely-stressed-out traveller with a lot of disappointment to deal with
I can totally relate to this ( except of course the physical symptoms).

Did you know that Peter Obi gave out his daughter in marriage today? No media advert frenzy, no private jets no fanfare!

Just imagine it were someone else with Obi's political stature and deep pocket. A former governor, Chairman of banks a multimillionaire and a presidential candidate.

Imagine how the atmosphere would have been?

Now, did you know the lady in question, born and brought up in the UK, with super education, left all the good life and luxury to come and teach in a primary school in Nigeria. Why? It's in the blood.

So, when Peter Obi tells you he'll make it simple, believe him. When he tells you he'll stop Nigeria that's bleeding and restore it to good health, take it to the bank, he will.

You'll be surprised that Nigeria asphyxiating under heavy debts may begin to save money again. He's done it before, he'll do it again! Let's help save our country!

I used to be a strong supporter of Okwute when he was governor but since he started this quixotic adventure to save Nigeria I would never support him.

Nigeria is broken because the structure is totally wrong. We don’t even have a constitution (except you want to call the current military decree a constitution). There is nobody, I repeat no one that can save us.

Don't be deceived he doesn't have the structure, charisma or even the popularity to orchestrate such a heinous but sustained fight. Who knows about him if not recently sit-at-home and issue of MNK took over the cyberspace. Many of the propagandas are either for political reasons or selfish agenda. Many Nigerians don't think and most are easily gullible, sustaining such regular and incessant attack on many federal institutions/police establishments require high level of intelligence, high level of tactical maneuvering and consistent obliteration of trails to avoid tracking. IPOB don't have such structures to "continuously sustained" such. I don't believe too is Fulani herdsmen rather, the insecurity has taken a critical dimension which I believe tends towards political but again IPOB will share part of the blame because they provided the "Hijacked" platform. It will take conscientious effort to stop all these which I believe will happen after 2023 election.

The moment the west started donating high tech defensive weapons en Masse to Ukraine, what did you expect? That said, Sure losing more than 2k troops is a tragedy for Russia. But it is what happens in a conventional warfare between two countries. When Germany attacked Poland with 2 million troops in WW2, despite their overwhelming superiority, they lost more than 59k troops within a month, and only managed to defeat Poland after 1 month and a half which even happened because the Soviet union attacked from the other side too nearly halfway into the invasion, overwhelming Poland in the process.
USA also in Vietnam faced their biggest humiliation when the Soviet union and China started donating high tech weapons to Vietnam to defend themselves with. After losing more than 60k troops, the almighty USA fled away from Vietnam with full speed grin with their tails in between their legs grin
BTW This war has just given everyone a glimpse of what actual modern warfare is. I'm having this feeling that the Era of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) are over. The Era where tanks can overrun a stronghold is over, seeing as there are now TOW missiles that can take out a tank and its entire crew in just one hit unlike before that you use anti tank shells that would bounce off in the face of heavy armors. grin
All in all, Russia will NOT end up like USA in Vietnam. They will take over the entire eastern Ukraine and cut off zelensky from the black sea. Ukraine will become landlocked. The sooner the USA realizes this, stop sending weapons to Ukraine and push for diplomacy, the better. lord Putin might actually forgive them
Tanks have specific purposes in combat but the proper tactics was to protect them with infantry (ground troops) but Russia decided to ignore that and paid a huge price for their incompetence.

PoliticsRe: An Open Letter To Prof Soludo On Sit-at-home In Anambra State by Collyweed: 4:26pm On Apr 05, 2022
DonBabaNG:
Dear Governor Soludo,

The decision to stop the sit at home is expected to meet resistance. But as a patriotic Anambarian, I still do think that it ( sit at home) can be ended, here is how.

While some might not agree, I think strongly that this ongoing Monday sit-at-home is a Taliban in nature and at best is a form of leadership based on fear.

While majority of those whose business are affected on Monday are longer happy with the forced sit-at-home they are in the mercy of these terror inflicting individuals that loved to be best addressed as unknown gunmen - but are they really unknown?

The sad thing about this recent trend in eastern Nigeria is that anyone can mobilize assassins to kill their rivals and it will end up in the news as unknown gunmen.

And somehow, this involuntary sit-at-home and it's Taliban styled enforcement is what put fuel to fire to the gruesome activities of these unknown gunmen.

While other might be saying that you should focus on other area of governance, I strongly opine that this ending the ongoing sit-at-home in Anambra should be one that must get your every attention.

The obvious reasons of course is the economical sabotage this causes, but another damming reason to put an end to this is because it creates impudence in the mind of the orchestrators. And this should stop. Every authority in Anambra should start from the office of the Governor.

To put an end the ongoing sit-at-home in Anambra, here is a blueprint that I strongly recommend.

1. While it's an obvious fact that Nnamdi Kanu is a prisoner of conscience. The state government as well as Igbo leaders must lead in the negotiation of Kanu's release. Because whether we want to admit it or not, the man is loved and he constantly commands cult-followership.

2. Security must be beef up in a down to top approach:
Town hall meetings with various youth leaders in every community must be considered and a well detailed understanding reached.

And every Monday, these youths leaders as well as the youths they lead will constantly patrol their community to ensure that no one attack nor intimate their people, all in the name of sit-at-home enforcement. For instance, youths in Nnewi will patrol Nnewi while the youths in Ojoto will patrol Ojoto.

In the case of any attack, these youths will face the aggressors as well as radio the youths in the neighboring communities as well as the police who will constantly be in patrol on the road to block off the escape route and apprehend these unknown gunmen.

Who during interrogation should be made to name their sponsors or those bankrolling them. Once such sponsor is arrested and declared wanted for all the deaths recorded during the sit-at-home normalcy will gradually return to our land that is vibrant with commerce.

However, it's important that there is accountability from the youth leaders to the government in ensuring that any form of assistance given by the government in combating this menace must not get abused.

My name is Arinze Esomnofu and I mean well for my people.
We agree that security should be strengthened. However regarding your first point, Soludo isn't responsible for putting him in detention and cannot be responsible for getting him out so asking him to do so is wrong headed. Soludo is however responsible for the social and economic welfare of the good people of Anambra and should do everything possible to route out these criminals.

P.S. Nnamdi (or Onyendufu as I prefer to call him) isn't a "prisoner of conscience" abeg! He committed actual crimes but as usual the Nigerian government is going about his prosecution incompetently.
