Fraudsters hack into Delta website, fix job application fee at N8,500 Matthew Ochei 5 November 2021 Kindly share this story: Governor-Ifeanyi-Okowa-of-Delta-State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State The Delta State Government has disowned an online advert for recruitment into the state civil service, saying the publication is fraudulent. Suspected hackers had on Wednesday placed a recruitment application form on the Delta State Civil Service Commission’s website, asking applicants to obtain entry forms from the Department of Recruitment and Promotion of the state civil service. Submission of the form was conditioned on the payment of a non-refundable fee of N8,500 in a bank draft to the civil service commission with Unity Bank account no. 0010840393. A statement by the Director of Information, Mrs Theresa Oliko, on Thursday, said the Delta State Civil Service Commission had no approval from the state governor to carry out any recruitment and it had not placed any advert for such, neither did it authorise anybody to do so. “The commission does not advertise recruitment or any of its activities online. HomeOpinions Politics Of Confusion And Violence: Any End In Sight? OPINIONS By Emmanuel Momoh On Nov 4, 2021 Share HAVING taken my time to watch the highlights and proceedings of the recent congress held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in many states of the federation, I couldn’t but come to conclude that the road to progress, especially in the Nigerian socio-political context, seems to be a distant one which only time and patience would allow us travel. It was literally an eyesore watching bullets being fired into the atmosphere. In severe cases, there was an exchange of guns, rifles and ammunition all in a bid to hold a congress which was meant to select party leaders at the state levels. It was more of a coup d’etat watching how governors who were meant to be chief executive officers of their respective states quickly turn into godfathers and electing their own favourite candidates while the “ogas at the top’ also gave direct orders aimed at circumventing the decisions made by the governors. Going through the whole scenario, my heart conceived a question: is there really an end to Nigeria’s politics of violence and confusion? What then could have birthed the rationale to hold a state congress if not for the clouds that are gathering and giving signals in preparation for the coming general elections which is scheduled to hold in 2023? As is the custom and tradition of Nigerian politicians, it is another time of trooping into the streets in search of hungry voters who could be bribed with some loaves of bread in exchange for their votes. It is as it were a time of supply and demand; a time of reckoning where those who have been faithful loyalists to the lords are rewarded handsomely, while those who have become rebels and prodigals are dealt with decisively. This is towards cutting off their wings that have grown overtime with the inordinate quest for power and its adjunct resources. Not minding the above, it is almost unthinkable for a solemn assembly to quickly end in shambles and confusion for the singular factor of “man know man”. Well, this is Nigeria and as you may be forced to believe, we operate on the culture of violence impunity and age-old moral decadence which has eaten deep into our psyche making it almost difficult to accept the surrogate methods of peace and tranquility. More often that not, we hear the jingles and rhythms from our leaders and other adjuncts components of the society clamouring for a peaceful approach towards the conduct of political processes. The reality of things day by day is that the clamour may only be mythology and farce, especially as Nigeria continues to be a subject of discourse and heated arguments at local and international scenes. Processes such as elections and day to day administration of the polity are avenues to select the best hands to man strategic positions and offices. This is to ensure that the dividends of democracy and governance are felt even in the remotest of areas. But here we are in Nigeria where, as they say, “anything goes”. A system where a square peg is kept in the round hole inasmuch as the person in question can adhere to the demands of the masters even if it requires mortgaging his conscience for a piece of cake. Consequently, what this births in return is a culture of violence, confusion and anarchy. Even with the return to democracy, it is almost unbelievable to see what we now refer to as common sights: snatching of ballot boxes, beating of party and electoral officials and, in severe cases, assassination of opponents to ensure that the least preferred candidate clinches the top even against the wish of the populace. It is almost impossible to hold any agenda relating to politics without the administration of the use of force and violence which more often than not ends in the loss of irreplaceable lives and properties as well as a distaste for anything politics, especially by the up and coming generation. I may need to ask again: Is there any end in sight to Nigeria’s politics of confusion and violence? Yes there is, if only all parties and institutions involved in the political process are ready to sheathe their swords, seek a common ground and embrace peace. But until then, the quest for a tranquil political process will continue to be a dream. Momoh writes in via momohomeiza8@yahoo.com |

No fewer than 200 naked people painted in white on Monday took part in an art installation at the Dead Sea to draw attention to the ongoing destruction of the world’s saltiest body of water. U.S. photographer, Spencer Tunick, wanted to use his photo installation at the salty lake to support the establishment of the planned Dead Sea Museum in the Israeli city of Arad, the Times of Israel reported. “The Dead Sea is disappearing,“ Tunick told the newspaper. “We need to find a way to sustain the level or to bring freshwater into the Dead Sea, but at the same time, keep all countries surrounding with water. Water is life.’ At the shore, the ground is sinking in places. The lake is fed by the Jordan River and lies more than 400 meters below sea level. The naked people were painted white in reference to the biblical story of Lot’s wife. According to tradition, she became a pillar of salt at the Dead Sea because, in spite of a divine prohibition, she looked back at Sodom, a city destroyed by God for its wickedness

Nollywood actress accused of brutalising Lagos nanny over son’s treatment A nanny, Motunrayo Azeez, has accused a Nollywood actress, Wunmi Toriola, of brutalising her over allegations of drugging her son at their residence on Medina Estate in the Gbagada area of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro learnt that Toriola, who went to work on Friday, left her son in the care of Azeez. Our correspondent gathered that the nanny went to pick the boy after school hours and took him home. When they got home, Azeez claimed that she fed the child and took him outside the compound to play. Shortly afterwards, the nanny said she discovered that the boy was running a temperature and she gave him some medication. Matters took another turn when Toriola, who was monitoring the situation on a CCTV device connected to her mobile phone, became angry. “She asked why I gave the baby drugs without her permission and I apologised for that, but she started accusing me of always drugging her son to make him sleep and I told her that yesterday (Friday) was the first time I would give him the drugs: Paracetamol and Vitamin C, with the cough drug she bought. “I was surprised about the allegation because I had no reason to drug her son; but she said she did not want to meet at home when she returned. So, I packed my bags and sat at the entrance of the gate outside, but she later called the gateman not to allow me to go out. “When she came back around 8pm, she started shouting and cursing me. She later said I should enter her car that we were going to a police station. I entered the car because my mind was clean towards her and her son. Instead of driving to the police station, she drove to the estate gate and dropped me with the guards and told them that they must not allow me to go. “She started beating me at the gate and later carried me back home. When we got home, she ordered that I should be locked inside a room; later, her husband called a soldier, who came to beat me with a horsewhip and used electric shocker on me,” Azeez said. The 27-year-old nanny noted that the actress vowed to lock her up in the house for three weeks to monitor her son’s health. However, when Azeez’s mother pleaded on her behalf, the actress reportedly took her to a police station to write an undertaking. “After we left the police station, she suddenly parked in the middle of the road and started beating me and dragging my phone that she wanted to seize it. She scattered my clothes on the road; people were just watching us, thinking we were acting a movie. But when they saw that I came outside the car and started crying and begging her, they asked me what happened. “She later gave me my phone and drove off. I was packing my clothes from the road with the help of people when I explained what happened to them. They told me to report her to the police; two people followed me to report at the station. “I didn’t get myself with the beating I received from her and the soldier. I want justice because I only gave her son drugs out of a pure mind.” Toriola, who claimed that she didn’t beat Azeez, said her son had slept for days before and seeing the nanny giving him drugs without her permission raised her suspicion. She alleged that neighbours had reported to her that the nanny always beat her child. She said, “Apparently, she knew that there was a camera inside, so she would take the boy outside and beat him. “One week later, I discovered that my son that was active was just sleeping, so catching her on camera giving him drugs raised my suspicion. My son’s cough had gone like two weeks ago, so for her to still be giving him cough drugs without telling me that my son was running a temperature or coughing means she intentionally gave my son the drugs around 6pm so that he could sleep and she could press her phone. “When I got home, I asked what happened; I didn’t beat her because when I attempted to beat her, she dodged my hand. I called my husband, and he told me not to take any step till he got back. When he came, he called the police to pick her to go and write a statement. But I was the one begging on her behalf that they should not take her away because her people were also begging me. “I don’t want a case because her mother called me from Epe, begging me to let her go, which I did only for me to now get your message. Now, I’m going to open the case; I’m going to take the case to Panti (SCIID); I have all the evidence of what she did.” The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said he had not been briefed about the case. He promised to get back to our correspondent, but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Tension as #EndSARS anniversary gathers momentum Tension as #EndSARS anniversary protest gathers momentum By Alao Abiodun on October 16, 2021 Groups planning to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the #EndSARS protest on October 20 have vowed not to back down despite repeated warnings from the police authorities. The Nation gathered that organisers have been mobilising online via social media platforms for a protest to coincide with the Lekki Tollgate incident which occurred last year. But police authorities across the States have been issuing warnings against the anniversary protest, asking the organisers to halt the plan. Convener of #RevolutionNow and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore said: “Starting from 8:00AM, All Roads in Lagos leads to #LekkiTollGate on October 20 2021! We Will Never Forget #LekkiMassacre2020 #RevolutionNow.” Also, the United Kingdom has warned its citizens to avoid large gatherings ahead of the first anniversary of the protest. In a statement published on its website as obtained by The Nation, the UK said: “Events to mark the one-year anniversary of #EndSARS protests are likely to take place nationally, week commencing 18 October. “There may be protests and a heightened security presence in major cities such as Lagos and Abuja.” The UK government advised its citizens to follow instructions from security agencies and also monitor the local media for information on possible protests in different parts of the country. The Nation reports #EndSARS protests, which held between October 8 and 20 last year, was a public outcry for an end to police brutality, extrajudicial killings, extortion and abuse of power, especially by officers of the defunct Special Anti-rubbry squared Ahead of the protest in few days, popular comedian Debo Adebayo, widely known as Mr. Macaroni who took part in the EndSARS, berated celebrities for being beneficiaries of the government whom he claimed stifled activities of the #EndSARS anniversary. Macaroni,in a lengthy Instagram post, spoke on how the government has clamped down on the events planned out one year after the protest. Rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, a.k.a Falz, also stated that concerts are being organised to distract youths from remembering those who died during the EndSARS protest last year. In a statement titled ’20:10:20 [update]’, Falz stated that no one has been punished yet for ‘heinous crimes’ perpetrated during the protest. Sharing a picture of the #EndSARS movement, Falz vowed that the organisers will never ever be silenced.

Ten simple ways to secure your bank apps from hackers 16th October 2021 Ten simple ways to secure your bank apps from hackers By Oyinlola Pelumi Adewale Mobile banking is a fast and convenient way to effectively manage your time and money such as checking your account balance, making money transfer, paying bills online, and the like. In Nigeria, the rate at which phones are snatched by unscrupulous elements is on the increase daily. There are reports of phones being snatched on the road, in the car, from people walking on the busy streets and from others who might be found using their phones in insecure places. Securing your phone is one thing and securing your bank apps is another, as there are various tricks that can be used by fraudsters to access people’s bank information and have access to their money. People who have been victims of bank fraud have taken to their social media to complain about accounts being emptied by fraudsters and thieves. Saturday Sun spoke with some experts who gave tips on how people could secure their phones. They include Mr David Osajie, a computer tech and a digital marketing expert, as well as Mrs Bisiriyu Wuraola, a financial accountant. They gave ten ways through which a person can secure their bank accounts in case their phones or any other accessible gadgets are stolen. ONE: Put a pin on your sim The most common way people steal bank information of other people is because many people do not lock their sim. So many people do not even know it is possible to add a pin code to one’s sim. It is highly possible to do this and doing this helps prevent any and everybody from gaining access to your sim card unless you disclose it to them. Even if you lose your phone, you do not have to worry about the popular Nigeria catch phase of: “it is not the phone that is paining me, it is the sim.” TWO: Enable app lock This is one advantage that android phones have over iPhone. It is easier for you to lock specific apps on your phones and secure important files or documents. Many apps enable you to create and use App-Specific-password to access them on your device. You can set an app lock on all of your bank apps and unlock them only when you want to have access to them and after inactivity on the app or when the app is closed, the lock is enabled again. This can be a stressful process because having to input password all the time you need to use an app can be quite frustrating but then it is better to be safe than be sorry. THREE: Never disclose any of your bank information People need to understand that no one is to be trusted and that should be enough reason to not disclose any of your personal information, much less your bank information. Not even your next of kin should know your bank details. This is a safer way to protect your account from being emptied by fraudsters. You bank pin, app lock pin and any other pin relating to your bank should not be disclosed to anybody at all. All transactions should be done and cancelled immediately so as to prevent yourself from being a victim. FOUR: Be careful with your downloads Not everything is as it appears to be online. You need to be vigilant when installing apps or downloading images, videos, files, songs, email attachments and so on from the internet, because some of these files might be from scammers or hackers and if you download or install without proper care, you might end up giving these intruders access to your phone and once they gain this access, your personal and bank information are no longer safe. FIVE: Have a unique bank app password You should not use the same password you use for your banking log-in anywhere else: Your bank, ATM cards and other financial related accounts should each have unique passwords this is because you still need to protect your bank app(s) from people or families who know your normal phone passcodes and are likely to share with other people. So, if they try inputting your normal phone password, it won’t work and the disappointment will be on them and not you. SIX: Make logging in to your bank app a regular routine One of the ways to also protect your bank app from intruders is to always check your accounts everyday. Log in to your bank app every day from a very secured computer with a secured Internet connection. Checking your bank app can be quite challenging, especially during “sapa” period where there is little or no money but you still need to check for security reasons, and for days when you will eventually have enough or more than enough. Keeping tabs on this daily will allow you to easily catch any potential fraud or irregular activities going on on your account and immediately be able to report it SEVEN: Avoid using public wifi Everyone likes the idea of a free wifi, but not all wifi are to be connected to. Some are traps laid down for preys to become victims. Free wifi are almost everywhere you go, but you cannot be too lucky in the sense that if you click on one set by a hacker, the person might intercept files from your device. EIGHT: Think before you click Nigerian banks are known to send messages or emails quite often. There are the useful, the useless and the temptingly convincing. But as an individual, you need to be mindful that fraudsters are also using these tactics to get through to people. When you receive a message with a deal that is too suspicious to be true, delete immediately. And if there is a link underneath, do not click on the link, as this can be a bait, and you might end up being a victim of these fraudsters. If you receive any message or mail from a bank, whether you use it or not, you should pause for a second to read, process and analyse the message before you think of falling prey to these people. NINE: Make your account officer your best friend Every person with a bank account has an account officer assigned to them. Find out who yours is and make friends with the person because your accounts will be monitored closely. And if there is an unusual attempt or practice going on in your account, you will be contacted, and if you are not the one running such activities, your account will end up being secured. No matter the amount you have in your account, your account officer is always there to help you. TEN: Perform transactions safely Stop being careless with your bank accounts, transactions, ATM cards etc. Also, stop showing people how much you have in your account and stop performing transactions in front of people so as to not be a target of any fraudster. If you want to perform any transaction at all on your phone, at the bank, POS stand or any ATM point, make sure you guard your account jealously and make it harder for the person sitting or standing beside you to see a single thing you are doing. This increases the rate of a protected account

Woman impregnated twice by her twin brother insists on marrying him Says he's too good in bed, I can't lose him to another woman Woman impregnated twice by her twin brother insists on marrying him By Linus OOTA, Lafia on October 16, 2021 If it were possible to turn back the hands of the clock, Amos Kunde would be the happiest man on earth. He would do anything to reverse an adventure that culminated in getting his twin sister Juliana pregnant twice, culminating in her being delivered of two babies for her twin brother. The 29-year-old native of Guma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State is in a dilemma as he says he is thoroughly embarrassed by the development while his twin sister and mother of his two children insists that she is married to him and has reached her destination as far as marriage is concerned. Born to the family of the late Patrick Kunde and his wife Torkwase, the family had settled in Awe LGA of Nasarawa State as farmers until the couple and other relations were killed during the farmers/herders crisis in Nasarawa State in 2013. The twins, however, survived the attacks because some merciful ones among the herdsmen who attacked their community decided to spare their lives. Orphaned and without any formal education, Amos and Juliana adopted farming as their source of livelihood. But because of the unsafe nature of Awe area at that time, they decided to relocate to Doku, a village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State sharing border with Benue State. For three successive farming seasons, Amos and his twin sister were blessed with good harvests, prompting their decision to stay put in the area. Although Juliana was deflowered by a boyfriend of hers who incidentally was also killed during the herdsmen attack, in Doma, she found solace in the brotherly love exhibited by Amos until the devil visited and they started an amorous relationship until Juliana became pregnant sometime in 2015. The twins, however, tried to keep it secret and made several attempts to abort the pregnancy without success and Juliana was eventually delivered of a baby girl. The widely held belief in the community, however, was that Juliana was impregnated by someone other than her twin brother, particularly as she had told some members of the community who cared to know that the man that got her pregnant had run away. Since the twins are not Doku indigenes, not many people in the area were really interested in whatever they chose to do with their lives. But curiousity was provoked in the village last year as Juliana took in again and came up with the same story as the first pregnancy. As the 2021 farming season approached in April, they took advantage of the farmers/herders crisis in Doma which claimed the lives of more than 50 farmers and displaced virtually the entire inhabitants by moving to Tse Ugba village in Keana LGA of Nasarawa State to continue their farming activities. Because Tse Ugba was a new environment and life was disrupted in many settlements around Nasarawa State during the April/May crisis, many of the people in their new settlement concluded that they were husband and wife. They settled down in the community and Juliana was delivered of a baby boy about three months ago. The bubble however burst last week when Amos decided to take a legitimate wife from the proceeds of the farm produce they had both laboured for. He met a stiff resistance from Juliana, a nursing mother who demanded to know her fate and those of her two kids when the new wife arrives. Unfortunately, Amos’ response to her poser was far from encouraging as he allegedly told her that it was high time she began to look for a husband, adding that he was done with her and needed a legitimate wife. Irked that her twin brother could seek to dump her for another woman after sleeping with her to produce two kids, Juliana resolved not to have any of her brother’s antics. Both of them are now in a fix as to what to do about the ugly development since Juliana decided to spill the beans. Our correspondent, who got wind of the development, visited their new settlement in Tse Ugba, a border community with Benue State to enquire into the scandal. Upon his arrival in the village, the twin couple was seated under a mango tree alongside their first born baby after an intense quarrel. How it all started First to speak with our correspondent was Juliana who did a summary of all that had transpired between them since they started an amorous relationship. She said it started as a joke on the farm which later resulted in the both of them having sex at home later that night. She said: “Then, we were stranded in Doma because Awe was no longer safe for us as orphans who are purely farmers. Relocating from Awe after losing our parents and relatives to herdsmen killings, we were in the farm arranging harvested yams when his trouser tore as he made to sit down to eat, and I saw his big and long manhood and smiled. “When he noticed that I smiled, he asked why and I told him that his manhood could kill someone’s daughter. We both laughed over it. “That same day, after we returned home from the farm, I was trying to turn food in our local kitchen in the night and he entered unnoticed to check whether all his chickens had roosted. “I was not sitting well and did not have any underwear on as I was turning the food. I only put on a wrapper. Then he saw my private part because he was flashing a torch to check his chickens in the kitchen. “Then he saw my pussy and shouted in appreciation of how big it was. I told him that we are twins and that we were bound to have the same features; maybe we took that from our late parents. “The incident later resulted in sex in our thatched house. He came to my room in the night, asking for a razor blade. From there, I agreed to his request for a sex test since both of us appreciated each other’s private organs, though it was also a bid to satisfy our sexual urge since both of us had not had sex after we relocated amidst herdsmen crisis and lost contacts with our loved ones. “But somehow, it became regular as both of us enjoyed it.” Juliana said from that point, the affair continued and they both agreed to keep it secret. Within the period, she said, they had two kids together. She said: “He never promised to marry another woman. What he told me was that we would make efforts to send them to school since both of us never went to school; that we were tired of moving from one settlement to another since sex was secretly involved in the relationship and he became my husband and from the blue. “Them he suddenly came up with a plan to take a wife. I asked him about my fate and those of our two kids since the new wife would come in and may not accept the development on ground. “I told him that with two kids, it is as good as we are married and there is no need bringing in somebody who would frustrate the kids. Read Also: Herdsman impregnated my wife, vows to take my life, Nasarawa farmer cries out from hiding “He told me and the kids to find our level. I won’t accept that. He lured me into this mess and he can’t abandon me now. His insistence on marrying a new wife without convincing me brought about the current crisis.” Juliana also told our correspondent during a one on one conversation that she could not afford to share Amos with any woman because he is too good in bed. She said: “He is quite good in bed. My former boyfriend, I mean the one who deflowered me in Awe but was killed by herdsmen is not anywhere near Amos in bed. He was quite gentle when we started, but what attracted me to him was the size and length of his dick. But as we move on much more regularly, I realised he was an expert in bed, and that really speeded up and tightened the relationship. “He would throw me unto the bed, rip my clothes off and start the game in a very crazy way while slapping my boobs. He does it well and straight and did all other things to my satisfaction that it made me forget that we are brother and sister. “He really gets me exhausted each time we play game, so I really felt bad and sad that someone else would share such with me. It is giving me a headache.” She said she never thought that she could get pregnant when they started. “But when pregnancy came and I told him about it, we made fruitless effort to abort it to no avail. That was when we hatched this plan to keep it secret, and moving from one village to another due to herdsmen attacks helped the secret a great deal. That also took us far into the relationship.” ‘How my sister seduced me’ Amos, who reluctantly spoke with our correspondent, said his sister was the one that seduced him by always exposing herself while they worked together on the farm and whenever she was preparing food in the kitchen at home. He said: “She knows that I always check on my chickens at night, so she would sit half naked before me. At first, it was embarrassing to me, but later I discovered that her actions were deliberate since she saw my private organ on the farm. “I noticed that her actions were an open invitation, and as a man, the devil visited me that faithful night when I needed a razor blade from her and the temptation came, leading to something else. We continued from that point with the result of two kids. •Juliana and Amos with their two children “My major reason for deciding to get married is for the woman to help me on the farm since she is nursing a baby. I didn’t mean to dump her. But she refused. “Secondly, I did not understand how I would marry my own blood sister. It is a taboo and abomination in the land, though the thought came late. But I wanted to correct it and she is raising genuine issues about her future and the kids. “But I thought she could get married and leave the kids with me while I remain with my wife who will take care of them, because it is a taboo. The kids may not survive in the future. That is what a friend told me and we need to correct it now.” “I regret what happened and the shame my conduct from day one has brought to me, her and our late parents and relations. We never bargained for this when our parents and relations were murdered in cold blood by the herdsmen.” Amos insisted that nothing would stop him from taking a new wife because he is reliably told that the children he is having with his blood sister may not survive. “It is a taboo and abomination in the land. They may one day die mischievously. That is my fear. That is why I want to take a wife, but she does not want to understand my own views,” he added. One of the elders in the village, Elder Kertyo Abiin, who is privy to the development, told our correspondent that what is happening is a taboo in the culture of the land. “The two kids will not survive. It is not done anywhere. But these people are foreigners here. They only came to this place a few months ago from Doma during the crisis. But I am discussing with them to find a solution to the problem. “He actually pleaded to keep the matter secret and resolve it without inviting security agents because there is nothing they can do as the harm has already been done long ago. “There is nothing any security man can do, and no court in the land can resolve the issue because the relationship has already produced two kids. “So I hope to handle it in the traditional way,” he said.
