BusinessRe: How Do You Cope With Nigeria's Epileptic Power Supply Issue As A Freelancer? by ConquerAll(m): 7:35am On May 11, 2019
Well, power has always been a problem in my area cos the DISCO in my area is very well experience in dancing disco with our power. The only good side is that you're sure of at least six to eight hours of light daily unless there is a major breakdown.

Then, to how I solve my power problem as a web designer, I got one reliable laptop power bank that last from 12 - 15 hours on full charge. In fact, I'm using it now while typing this. The cycle has been to charge it while we have power and rely on it when power is out. That pretty much solves my power issue as regards powering my laptop.

It's been like two years plus since I got this power bank and it's still going strong. The funny part is that it's Nigerian made. I got from one guy like that in Lagos in 2016.

Hmmm! My dear girl, attraction is NEEDED to spice up this marriage thing, especially, on the side of the girl. Like one of cousins once said, "I cannot marry a man I don't feel like 'jumping' at the slightest opportunity."

So, my advice is keep him as a friend because that's what he is, and will always be to you.

WebmastersRe: Why Responsive Design Sucks And Reduces The Mobile Friendliness Of Your Site. by ConquerAll(m): 6:48pm On Aug 05, 2015
directonpc:
I have seen a lot of webmasters on Nairaland over hyping responsive web design.
I am going to state 3 reasons why responsive design sucks and why you should take the stress of designing mobile versions of your site.

1. Responsive sites load slow on mobile and consumes users data(megabytes). This is very true as responsible sites download same high resolution contents that were designed for pc version of the site it only useless css to cut some put and change width and height for others.

Unlike responsive design a lite simple dedicated mobile version won't include contents that are heavy.

2. Less low-end device/browsers support. A responsive site might look good on high-end mobile devices and browsers but it is the opposite on opera mini and stock browser of older devices.

3 . Facebook, YouTube and google are not doing it so you should know that it is crappy. That is all and nobody can counter these points
My dear OP, responsive design is the way to go, no doubt about that; it's the present and the future. You better embrace it for your own good if you're a webmaster anyway.

*The reason why it looks like it sucks sometime is that most acclaimed wed designers don't even understand it well, let alone, know how to implement it properly. What most designers do is to just grab a said 'responsive' theme, upload it and baaam, they have a responsive website. It's not done that way. I can't remember any theme that I used for any of my projects which I did not modify considerably to fit the project in question. Responsive design is not for a lazy designer because you have to test, fine-tune and test again and again in order to get it right.

- As for the issue on data consumption and load time, this is hardly a factor because we have faster internet networks now unlike before and any serious designer or webmaster that value speed should already know how to cut down on image size without affecting image quality much using available image editors or web services (e.g, kraken.io).

- As for device/browser support, a good responsive website will display acceptably on modern opera mini. What do you expect when browsing with my old Nokia 3110 phone? You also have to know that the world is moving forward and so should you. Today, Windowa XP is no longer supported and with time, its IE8 will die a natural death. Most newer themes don't even support anything less than IE9 now. For me, browser support forms part of my agreement with clients. If you wish to support obsolete browsers, then prepare to pay extra, no joke.

- As for why Facebook, YouTube and Google are not using it, permit me to say that they have their reasons and don't ever forget they already have native Apps for most of the mobile platforms already. Most notable websites have already embraced RWD (cnn, aljazeera, etc) and many website owners are paying thousands of dollars just to switch to RWD because it's the present and future combined.

I have the following in Support of RWD:

1) One and same content for both desktop and mobile - makes lot of sense.

2) One and same Domain/URL for both desktop and mobile - very good for SEO and the same Google is very much in favour of r/websites

3) No need to maintain two different renderer/template - makes life a lot easier for dear webmasters

4) RWD is future-proof - renders well on newer devices/browsers. MV may require periodic tweaking for newer devices/browsers

BusinessRe: 4 Ways To Identify "SCAMMERS" On Most Online Market Platform Like OLX Nigeria by ConquerAll(m): 2:52pm On Feb 09, 2015
I had a serious encounter with this OLX thieves and bunch of con men.

My work Toshiba laptop started messing up on 2nd of January 2015 without warning and after troubleshooting, it boiled down to faulty motherboard.

I decided to get a second-hand laptop for now coz I planned on getting a new high spec machine later in the year. So, I head to Ogbunabali in PH where they sell fairly used UK/US laptops. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a decent laptop with the minimum specs I need. Then, I decided to try OLX.com.

That's when the drama began. Called the first guy with MR. Something as seller name and he said he is at Onne in PH and cannot meet up because of distance between us but can deliver if only I can pay 5k delivery cost and pay for the item on delivery. He said they delivers with DHL around PH and they just delivered a laptop around my area yesterday. I said I want to come to his office at Onne instead. He said ok but that should be on Monday because we were speaking on Saturday.

Called the second one with Mr. one-Hausa-name I can't remember. He sounded nothing like an Hausa to my ear. He equally said he is at Onne - that I should come on Monday to their office and see the laptops before I buy.

Then on Monday, when I called the first guy, he said I should go and make initial payment deposit before coming to their office. When I asked for the location of his office, he hung up. A minute later, another number called me and said his staff said I was asking for their office address. I said yes, that I want to come and meet them first. He said ok, and gave me one address like that and said it is located inside Onne Sea Port. He also said I would not be allowed to come inside unless I show the security the teller I used in making initial deposit and my ID card. He said his staff would send me the account number to use in making the payment. Two minutes later, I received one GTBank personal account number with a Yoruba name. I said ok and laughed in my mind. These guys don jam caterpillar today.

So, I called the second guy and told him that I was at Onne and he should tell me how to locate their office. He change pattern immediately and said he was at the auction office inside the port premises. He said I cannot come in unless I showed the security guys the teller I used in making payment for the auctioned item I want to buy and a valid ID card. He asked if I have a valid ID card with me. I answered in the affirmative. Then, he asked me to make payment for the item first before coming to the gate with the teller and my ID card. I played I along asked him how I can make the payment. He said he will send me the account number of the customs officer in charge of auction so that I can go ahead and make payment. He sent me one Fidelity bank personal account number with an Hausa name on it.

Immediately I knew these guys were up to no good. So, I decided to wait it out. 5 minutes...10 minutes...20 minutes and the first guy called and asked if I have made the payment. I said not yet and that I can't seem to find the bank. He said I should ask around for the location of GTbank and hung up. Ten minute after, the second man called and asked if I have succeeded in making the payment. I said no and that I am no longer interested and he speedily hung up with a resounding hiss. The first guy keep on calling me for the next 2 days but I ignored all his calls.

My dear, that OLX.com is a behive of scammers and con men. I can tell you that 90% of sellers on that site are scammers and about 5% of the rest are economical with the truth as regards the items they are selling (either faulty or damaged items).

Rules You Should Follow To Avoid Being Scammed
1) Only searche for items/sellers within your locality/city.
2) Always try to match product specs to price (Don't fall for their high specs with ridiculously low price. Imagine a brand new HP with Core i7/8GBRAM/750GB HDD @ 50k).
3) Arrange to meet up at a secure/busy place (If you're not sure of security, don't go with cash or valuables).
4) Make no promise to buy before seeing the item in question (cos you may not like it after).
5) Do NOT pay a dime whether delivery cost, part-payment or whatever before seeing the item.
6) Physically inspect items thoroughly before buying (most items sold there are faulty; shine your eye wella).

Finally, I wasn't able to get what I wanted from OLX. I ended up getting a pretty decent fairly used HP laptop (Intel Dual Core 2.40GHz,6GB RAM, 750GB HDD) from a friend that sells computer accessories around my office at a decent price too.

Please, I take God beg NCC or whoever, let them do something about this.

Okija_juju: Women A man who sleeps with different women is better than a man with one partner outside..

Reason: A man who sleeps around is just doing it because he can.. Basically, he is a manwhore.. But a man with another woman outside is in a relationship, meaning he has feelings for her, just like he has for you.. Basically, you are now in a competition. Thats the bad one you should run from.
You're on point abeg! I was discussing with a friend who just got married not too long ago. He told me the greatest mistake a married man can make is to keep relationship outside. According to him, a man can sleep around with no string attached, if that's what he wants. But never in his life try to date them because that's when drama starts. Before one knows it, one starts having divided attention, playing hide and seek, the woman start developing strange feelings and may even plot against one's wife so as to gain grounds (no limit to what a woman can do jare), etc.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Airbrushed Out Of Mandela’s Life Story by ConquerAll(m): 11:45am On Dec 12, 2013
If I say I'm not greatly touched by this piece, then, I'm lying.

I'm not sure if the world can find any politician in this country called Nigeria they can accord their respect to. The only person I can think of is Abdulsalami Abubakar for his singular act of kowtowing to the yearnings of his people in 1999 (although, he left the treasury in ruin)

I really don't know what is wrong with Africa. Sometimes I conclude that this is how it was originally design to be. No wonder almost all share identical skin color, black.

I still strongly believe the problem is nothing but lack of LOVE for our fellow man.

It could help a lot if you can post the error message it gives you from the control panel.

I have had similar issue before on my former machine. My Apache server couldn't start because another program was using one of the ports: 80

I had to open up services and manually stop the culprit and end it from starting automatically next time since it's a non essential service anyway.

What I want to see

1. To see members avatar alongside posts. The tech guys can simply implement gravatar to avoid too much hits on the forum server.
2. To have a kind of voting system in place that allows members to vote topics to front page instead of relying on the judgements of mods like...(if you call names, na you sabi)

Ego2: Dis has got nothing too do wif d cash, he's caring, fun too b wif, open minded n d rest buh everything still ends up in s*x, we only get too see wen he wants us too, kip giving excuses of been busy.
Hey girl, just keep your cool and stop whining. You're complaining because you've lost control of the "relationship".
This is unlike other relationships you've had in the past where you had the upper hand and did as it pleased you. Here, the hand of the clock has turned and you're like "what the hell!"

I drop my cap for this guy because he's got the three essential stuff required to survive in the dating game... Self Confidence, Self Discipline and Sense of Humor. How I wish every guy out there could emulate this guy for once and see how beautiful life is when you're in control.

As for my advice, I suggest you just keep cool, accept you've lost some control. By using your woman wit you can get an idea where this is going (like asking your tricky questions. but I doubt if it'll work with this sharp guy).
CareerRe: Your Experience As A Sales Man by ConquerAll(m):
Hmm! I feel your koko no be small. Salesman job can be a hell on earth (talking out of experience).
But wait, I need to ask if you're into Insurance? If that's the case, then, it's a pity cos Nigerians don't understand the language called "Insurance".

During my short sojourn in the art of salesmanship, I learnt few things and had some experiences which I think are worth sharing

1. I learnt that people don't want to be sold to; rather, they want you to help them solve their problem(s) [Once I understood this, I changed my approach and things became easier]
2. I also learnt that to have a measure of success, you must know your product in and out, especially the benefits. You also have to believe in your products to be able to convince others to believe in them (this is a difficult part because, most times, you're told to market a total junk stuff you don't believe one bit in).
3. I learnt not to expect positive result all the time, at least, for the first call.
4. The job taught me how to approach people (even total strangers) with ease than before.
5. I later realised that those who set targets for you only have one thing in mind... to drive you MAD and hypertensive with unrealistic targets which they know cannot be realised. So, the best thing I did was to ignore them and just work smart as usual.
6. I also enjoyed the FREEDOM that comes with being a salesman. Sometimes I go just enter bar and relax with a cool bottle of the Ultimate, all join for work. At times, I also do my own runs during working hours. Regular operations guys don't have this freedom.

I detest the work but, at least, I enjoyed myself relatively while it lasted. Probably because I knew I had no future there.

WebmastersRe: Review On This Website PLEASE Www.therma.org by ConquerAll(m): 5:21pm On Dec 09, 2013
@op, your website for review wasn't going initially but later came up.

My honest opinion (opinion base on visit to the home page)

1. Site is too slow (maybe you're still hosting on a test server)
2. The site width is too wide (better to restrict content to nothing more than 980px because of screen sizes, unless you're doing responsive)
3. The color combination is ok for me
4. The main menu should be made to stand out while still blending in
5. Remove the h1 "Home" or blend it somehow by changing the title.

That's all for now
