Rommello: On the issue of two man cells. That is generally the norm in the Uk penal system but there are prisons where inmates are housed in three/four man cells. Belmarsh is one of these facilities that does that. So you have four hard, most probably violent men(..excuse the assumption!! wink) cooped up in a cell with one TV and remote... I'm guessing you can do the math.
i have been told UK prisons are not even up to standard if you compare to the prisons in other countries of western europe. the EU still wants UK penal system to adopt the one prisoner per cell policy. they want the prisoner to have the rights to access information(newspaper, internet, etc), 3 square meals and some education as well.

StarBoard: I dont think that fact is enough to classify them as underdogs. Like Sleekdot says, Real are 13 points behind Barca. In that context it is a surprise that they are in the semis of the CL this season.
that's exactly my point, all these minnows want to do it the chelsea way or the milan way in 2007 or liverpool way in 2005. they throw the league and concentrate fully on europe. united put more effort on the premier league.

That does not diminish their status as a top team in Europe.
I'm pretty sure that United won't need to sacrifice any race for the other, because they normally go all out for the top competitions even though the Premier League is the priority.
this is why someone should tell dayothecamel to shut the fück up about power shift to germany. they have to play in the final for 5 consecutive seasons to even get my consideration. one or two seasons ain't enough. english clubs were at it from 2005 till 2009.

Dortmund are past winners of this competition when it was actually harder to win it (i.e. with only two reps from the top countries and 16 teams in the group phase). They are the anti-thesis of big-spending Bayern and have achieved success without having to throw too much cash around. They are not a small team by any means.
i think it's more difficult these days.....
oligarchs and russian billionaires have spoilt it for clubs with pedigree. without roman's dirty money, bayern would have won it last season without wahala. now we have PSG, malaga and city throwing the spanner in the wheels of the teams with pedigree.

They may be the least in term of pedigree of the remaining teams, but they are unbeaten so far in this competition. That should count for something, i think.
i agree - they are good value for money in the confines of the german republic. it does not make every player of theirs world class like dayo keeps singing. jeeeez, the wänkfest is toe-curling!

montelik: Dortmund underdogs? Weren't they SAF's pick to win the UCL.

MRbrownJAY: as much as her story is painful to hear, she MUST go back to Nigeria. this is the decision that the British Gov took and she should follow the law. no sympathy should be taken into consideration as this will simply open the door for more asylum seeker (or what not) to do the same thing as a last attempt to stay in the UK.

nateevs: Some of the comments here are bizarre. It's like nothing happens for a reason in football. It's all chance, co-incidence. Do these little things not matter? I am not saying Dortmund got a big one over Madrid because of the break but is it that the break doesn't help in a way?
the average intelligence of most people here is below the human threshold!
i have been asking this question since if the winter break is an advantage or a disadvantage. how can anyone discount the effect of having a month's break in the middle of a season?

StarBoard: @coogar,
I wouldn't exactly put Dortmund in the category of Dark Horses.
I'm thinking they've been there and about over the years and it's not a surprise they've gotten this far.Two-time defending bunsesliga champions isnt a mean feat in the midst of the mighty Bayern.
You are correct that the European competiton throws up the odd underdog every year. By your formula, it wouldnt be out of place to put Dortmund in that list, though they sort of have European pedigree
they are 20 points below bayern in germany!
if united sacrifice the premier league title to chase the champions league, don't you think we would be fierce in europe?

biolabee: Instead of Abortion read birth control
If family planning methods and techniques are ubiquitous, the number of children being born will reduce also hence NGOs are working hard in various indigent communities with mothers to teach birth control
how many rural women have access to birth control pills? the ones who have access to pills don't even take medicine because of their staunch religious beliefs. some women don't like birth control pills cos they are scared of the side effects. this is nigeria not texas!

However generally some die hard guys believe children are a store of wealth and are against family planning
If I no get money like rich man, I go get pikin pass am LOL.
the pertinent question remains - if we nigerians don't patronise these kids, the parents won't have anywhere to send them. if every nigerian refuses to accept the services of any child that should be in school studying, there would be no motivation from the parents to send them out to work.

i reiterate, every nigerian is guilty including the useless NGOs!

Afolabs101: You said "prison violence is at barest minimum", I was just disputing that with the example of my brother. You then said I was lying about my brother so I presented some articles that highlight the violence in the UK prison system just like prisons are violent all over the world. How would a place that houses criminals not be violent?
there's little or no prison violence in the UK....
suicide is the highest cause of death in UK prisons, not murder or manslaughter. what was the reason your brother was at the hospital?

With regards to overcrowding, the articles may be written by liberals but they quote reports. In one of them, a report by the Chief Inspector of Prisons is what is quoted as saying "Winchester jail holds 680 prisoners in cells meant for 500". The Chief Prisons Inspector goes on to say "The prison suffered many of the problems typical of local jails. It was seriously overcrowded and the resources to do with a challenging and needy population were very stretched."

But I guess you know better than the Chief Inspector of Prisons who is an appointee of a CONSERVATIVE
government, or maybe you are talking from first hand experience as a prison guard or inmate.
it seems you have an eye defect......
i said the EU want all european countries to have the one prisoner per cell policy. 2 prisoners in a cell that is bigger than most bedrooms in nigeria is not overcrowding. it's a bunk bed with a wash-hand basin and a WC in the closet. is that overcrowding?

this is the standard prison cell in the UK occupied by 2 prisoners - how many 3rd world countries have it this good even outside the prison walls? overcrowding in the UK standard is not the same with the way you would look at it in nigeria. UK prisons are like hotels!

debosky: I'm sure parents know the kids are their responsibility, but if they can't afford to take care of them, talking of responsibility at that point is medicine after death.

If the parents are unable to take care of the kids, then what? Like I said earlier, we should focus on stopping people having more kids than they can cope with - that's the only long term solution.
you are a hypocrite....
focus on stopping people having more kids and yet you are against abortion. focus on stopping people having more kids and yet you patronise these children hawking wares on the street thus contributing your own quota of child abuse.

what rights have you got to speak against the parents sending their kids to work as maids when your money is what motivates these parents to push their kids to work in the first place? you are as guilty as the parents. when one was the last time you refused to buy pure water from a child in lagos?

you people need some soul searching - every nigerian is guilty!

Afolabs101: 1- To just accuse me of lying based on nothing is also not a way to argue and quite immature. Here are some articles that highlight violence in UK prisons:

Concerns raised by chief inspector of prisons over Victorian facility that holds 180 more inmates than it should - http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/mar/20/winchester-prison-violence-drugs

2 - "Most prisons are overcrowded - Prison Reform Trust" - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19395427. I just had to google "overcrowded prisons" for that.

3- "Metropolitan police still institutionally racist, say black and Asian officers" - http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/apr/21/metropolitan-police-institutionally-racist-black.
you lack cognitive reasoning......
how did these links prove your brother almost died at the hospital? then you went on google to scoop out articles written by liberals who want each prisoner to have a cell to himself like the EU laws dictate. that would not happen overnight if new prisons are not built.

as it is today, the maximum number of lags in a cell is two. an enhanced prisoner(prisoners that are trustworthy) gets a cell to himself - is that overcrowding? go to nigeria and other 3rd world countries and see 40-80 prisoners in one cell and you would understand the meaning of overcrowding!

sleekdot: Sahin? Because some clubs are foolish enough to buy players going down. The same Sahin cant even break back into the Dortmund team
Dzeko is still wayy better than your boyfriend Fernandud
you are a tool - sahin was the best player in germany before moving to madrid! he got there and became shyte. dortmund are one of those teams whose strength has a lot to do with the coaching and management. their work-rate and defensive cohesion is entirely coached, and most teams in england just don't have it. therefore, there's no guarantee any of those players would do well if they move out of bundesliga.

Dortmund had winter break last season did they not? Yet Arsenal beat them at the Emirates and drew at the Iduna.

Sometimes things click for you and it works.
then the credits should go to arsenal.....in spite of not having a winter break and playing an extra domestic competition, they still mauled dortmund!

a tired athlete can still beat a well-rested athlete if the latter is totally useless but that does not mean the latter doesn't have the advantage if he utilises it.

We got 3rd and finished ahead of spuds, Manure didn't win but unfortunately Bolton went down so less PL games to watch next season, fortunately Wigan stays. Congratulations to City and now can we go out and do some spending. It is going to be a long way back for Manure from here in my humble opinion as they will have a lot of changes in their team but we also have our work cut out to cut back that 19 point difference in league points between us and the Mancunians.

Pataki: She will be subjected to a mental health assessment by two psychiatric doctors, a professional mental health nurse and a social worker.

Now this is where I presume it gets tricky - she is due to be deported from the UK, hence she currently has no right of stay in the UK! Her now high medical expenses will be paid by the UK government from tax money.

If she is found to be psychologically OK following the mental health assessment done, she will be put on the next available flight to Nigeria!

If she not mentally stable - suicidal in thoughts and speech (nigerians sabi do am wella sha), her whole immigration story will now be properly scrutinised, including biological evidence to her age, and if found incorrect - she will still be deported!

Either ways, her best option is to quietly return to Nigeria and follow the right thing. She already screwed things up for herself.
while all this is happening, some female activists and human rights activists are in court or constituting a nuisance somewhere to fight her case. i heard the woman with the quintuplets is still in the UK with a 6-bedroom house funded by your taxes. women have it easy in this country whether as an immigrant or as a permanent resident!

just this morning, i saw on TV that a man can still be guilty of räpe in the UK even if it's consensual sex.

justwise: That has changed long ago, illegal immigrants can get married in the UK now without UKBA permission or certificate of marriage, but when that person applies for a stay with that marriage certificate his or her status before marriage comes up.
if this rings true, how come UKBA still lurk around registries to arrest couples suspected to be involved in sham weddings?

your brother was hospitalised and nearly died of what? stop telling porkies. overcrowded prisons my foot - the maximum number of lags in a cell is 2. enhanced prisoners even get to keep a single cell!

And why does it have to be immigration or drugs charge? The British Police are known (and it has been documented in the Lord Macpherson's inquiry into the death of Stephen Lawrence) to be institutionally racist. he may have been picked up and arrested no good reason
death of stephen lawrence was 20 yrs ago. you cannot use a one-off incident to project a whole nation. it's like saying all nigerians are killers because of what happened in ALUU village! you destroy your own credibility when you argue this way.
