I'm broke and depressed, can't live any longer.
Being born in Nigeria is my greatest undoing.
I cursed the day I am born into this world.

Why is life so difficult and so unfair for a common man. I can't even feed, don't have what to eat and always struggle to afford food. Debt everywhere.
It's better to beg than to commit crime.
At times I wonder if there is no God seeing all these happenings. Some are extremely rich, and some extremely poor.

I am really suffering please
So you think your problems will be solved in a faceless forum.Whst makes you think people will donate money to you here.Nigeria is hard, everyone, including those you are begging from here are struggling to survive.

Begging is not the best option, when you face little challenges in life, especially when it is food,if it's health cchallenges then one can understand

If you must beg, start with those who know you; family, friends and relatives, you can start from there instead coming online.

Plus look at all the antennas and cables and other infrastructure they built. Did government spend money? No.

Yes we are saying the same thing.Servces offered by government are epileptic but cheap and services offered by private firms are effective but costly.

This is what's obtainable in Europe and America, their citizens enjoy uninterrupted services but they pay highly for It.

Voice calls and internet services offered by these network providers are never cheap compared to when we have NITEL.The only advantage is it's accessibility, everyone have access to it,but they are milking subscribers.

The thing is, if they are not making profit, where then do they get money to run well?

(Our pockets obviously).

The reason why we no longer have NITEL as our main telco, and why we don't have electric power is because of the idea that government corps exist not to make profit.

And that is also why we don't have working refineries.

I'm sorry, but you have the wrong idea about corporations, government or otherwise. You are free to disagree.
These government corporations mostly offers essential services to the people. If they are wholly privatized, the people will not be able to afford the services they offer.Thats why government continue to hold on to it.government run corporations with subvention, they vote funds for them yearly.

It's been privatized now.

Plus it has to make a profit. No profit, no means of meeting any energy needs adequately. Be it a public or private company

(Using the BBC as an example...it is run by the British government, and it does make a profit).
NNPC has not been privatized. The shares of NNPC LTD are held by the ministry of finance and that of petroleum on behalf of the federal government. It is fully federal owned until private investors acquire shares in it.

The purpose of setting up government corporations is not to make profit, that doesn't means they don't make some profits, but it should be negligible.

I bought a 2002 Toyota Camry as my first car in October and for the first 2-3 months the car performed pretty well. However lately, from January it has been one problem to the other. From overheating to coil problem to spark plug problem and others. The recent issue with the car is that the car doesn’t hold slow anymore. That is the car goes off at slow speeds. I’ve changed coil, changed spark plug, ringed engine twice all to no avail. This has caused a huge hole in my pocket as I’ve even had to borrow to pay for some of these repairs. Just yesterday in a bid to resolve this issue, I took the car to another mechanic and he told me my engine block had washed and that even if he grinded the valve the holding slow issue won’t stop. I inquired about the cost of replacing the block and purchase alone was close to a 100 thousand. I’m just tired and frustrated, I need advise, do I sell the car or do I repair this? Is this mechanic trying to extort me. Experience car users please advise
Did you buy it direct Belgium or second hand. Please Sell that car fast, stop pumping money into it.it will wreck you,it has been compromised.

nairalanda1:
Hmm

It was obvious that Buhari did not get fuel subsides....but obviously once he got into office, he did understand.

The problem with the article is that the folks who wrote it, do not understand how a subsidy works....and just wrote it for the shock value.

1. Here is how subsidy costs rose to N8 trillion and kept rising.

In 2015, few months after Buhari took office...landing cost of fuel was N132, price at pump N87

In 2022 September, fuel price was N170, landing cost was....N502 .

Do the math, and you will get why we spent increasing amounts on subsidy. ESPECIALLY if you consider that fuel consumption goes up year in ,and year out. (And then there is the mass smuggling of fuel to other African countries because Nigerian fuel is much cheaper than other fuel in all our neighbours).

Plus, if we kept fuel at N87, the amount we would have spent on subsidy by now would have been N20 trillion, if not far more.

2. One of the solutions offered was that we should have released forex to 'let everyone import'. At that rate, the subsidy costs would have risen to N20 trillion. Remember the games importers were playing before NNPC became the sole importer? And still play now.

The solutuon should have been SIMPLE.....Fuel subsidy SHOULD have gone since 2012,(Ideally fuel subsidy should have gone since 1993, when we got the earliest warnings. But Nigerians, led by Buhari and co, said NO because all they saw was price increases, and not the long term benefits.

The fact is, if subsidy had been totally removed in 2012, that N8 trillion would have been SAVED.

Our addiction to low fuel prices caused this, people. We all better accept this harsh truth. If you implement price controls, corruption and stealing results. (Former communist countries know that...price controls led to bad products, corruption, stealing and scarcity. In 1985, there were queues in Moscow for bread. Today, under the capitalism of Putin, you can buy any bread you want).Buhari too loves low oil prices. And like most Nigerians, he thinks that they can be sustained forever. They can't.

That is why we do not have good refineries. Because price controls prevent NNPC from making a profit. Making NNPC the sole importer also basically restricted NNPC from making a profit, and forced it to use whatever monies it did make in subsidising fuel.
NNPC is a public corporation, it is not set up to make profit,if at all,it should be negligible. It is set up to meet the energy needs of Nigerians.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Why There Are No Jobs In Nigeria. by coputa(m):
KingofHearts:
Copied

*Document written by a former CEO*.

I used to criticize owners of private companies like Dangote Group *who hire so many Indians while there are many unemployed Nigerians*, but now I understand their painful decision.

The biggest challenge in our manufacturing businesses is not power or infrastructure, *the biggest challenge is getting an honest workforce*.

Everyone we hire *seems to be on a mission to steal as much as possible* from inflated invoices, recording less than the actual number of units produced.

*The worst part of this is that all of the fraud we've uncovered is not committed by one person, it's usually multiple staff members colluding with each other*, from production to sales to finance, even management.

I reviewed management 3 times in one year.

It got so bad at one point that *my main criteria for hiring staff was no longer competence or certificates, but honesty.*

At least *skills and abilities can be acquired, but once you're dishonest, you're beyond repair.*

We always complain about the economy and the fact that there are no jobs. I know people abroad who would love to start job-creating businesses in Nigeria and Africa, but they can't because they can't get someone they trust to run it.

I know people in Nigeria with so much money, they want to start factories and other job-creating businesses, but they can't because they are busy elsewhere and can't get someone they trust to run the business. So instead of investing in the real sector and creating jobs, they will just buy treasury bills, while the thieves scream no jobs and no food.

I bet big Nigerian organizations like Dangote can set up shop in any African country and create millions of jobs, but I bet corruption and dishonesty at the top of government is what keeps them from helping Nigeria and Africa.

Many great companies, would be born in Nigeria *if we could engage in partnerships*but we can't* because you can't trust anyone.

This is an advantage that the Indians and Lebanese have over us in Nigeria and Africa. They can pool resources and do mega-businesses, unlike the Nigerians. One person has to do everything because we can't partner, so we end up with small and very small businesses.

Even siblings CANNOT run a business together. The dying or dead super stores in Nigeria that would have become the Walmarts...are a great example.

Start a poultry farm and they will steal your eggs. Some will even go ahead and kill the chickens so that they are allowed to take them home.

Start an entertainment/viewing/gaming center and they will pocket your money. On the days you are in the business, the money made will be 10 times more than when you are not there. Because they are eating your money and eating their future.

Buy and lease a vehicle to a driver to use and watch as they finish you off.

Start a restaurant, the same thing will happen. More than half of the total food ingredients will end up in their personal kitchens.

Even the regular grocery store or kiosk attendants will find a way to steal from the small investors.

You will see them *quoting their perversity by saying, "The goat grazes where it is tied, "* Hmmmm"

Imagine people justifying theft at work, killing their own jobs and the development of Nigeria.

You will see these people poking their twisted fingers at politicians when they are no different.

I usually say that the reason most Nigerians haven't stolen billions of government money is simply lack of opportunity.

The few honest Nigerians, both in government and in the private sector, are *considered stupid.*

You are not stupid. You are what Nigeria desperately and painfully needs.

How are we going to evolve when those who are supposed to oversee and manage stores, kiosks, supermarkets, factories, schools, hospitals, water works, road construction, street cleaning, power plants, bus fleets, parking collections, building construction, etc., are the ones who conspire to steal from small local investors, large local investors, governments and foreign investors?

How will we evolve when our school principals are the ones plotting to steal school supplies, school fees and school food, etc.?

How will we evolve when our hospital officials are the ones who plot to steal medicine, beds, sheets, blankets, food, consultation fees, etc.?

How? How? Cry our beloved country.

How will we evolve when the officials responsible for ensuring and enforcing standards and reducing cost estimates are those who conspire with local and foreign contractors to inflate costs and reduce work standards to steal public money for personal gain.

At all levels, "Nigerians are Nigeria's problem.

In my opinion, the simple reason, which can be replicated across the country, why Rwanda is a rising star in Africa is that Rwandans and foreign development partners and investors know that the country's top leadership cannot accept dishonesty in both public and private service.

Imagine 36 states plus Abuja will have a person like Paul Kagame at the head!!!

Even the so called western world and eastern world would not want that because Nigeria would be FIRST in 10 years.

We Nigerians need to wake up and rethink Nigeria.

Nigerians at all jobs from the sweeper to the craftsman, the salesman, the storekeeper, the driver, the tea/coffee maker, the purchasing manager, the governor, the minister, the commissioner, the accountant, the nurse, the doctor, the cook, the painter, the builder, the legislator, the minister must be honest for the sake of Nigeria.

By being dishonest, we violate Nigeria. Foreign elements know our dishonesty and so they come to Nigeria to steal our vast natural resources and give a few crumbs of bread to those Nigerians in charge of running our countries at the expense of our development and self-sufficiency.

Who will save us from ourselves?

Nigeria can rise again.Let Nigeria rise.Stand up and be counted as a people.

It is time to CHANGE...
The genesis of the problem is the value system imbibed by Nigerians. If you are appointed into top government position, you will be celebrated by your tribesmen and given tittles in your community, encouraging you to bring the booty back home,if you didn't,you are considered a fool, even your wife and children will reject you.
Weath is highly revered in Nigeria, the person who is doing well in the society is considered wise and hardworking, nobody cares what he does to make it.These people are the role models of the youths.
So, when everyone wants to make it by all means, the result is always the display of dishonesty.
The government that are in the best position to sensitse the masses on good values are themselves neck deep in corruption. Is it our religious leaders, who has turned the house of God to business center.
Nigerians need reorientation, money and wealth is not everything, money is good but pursue it legitimately.
