A 6-year-old girl has been rushed to the Ondo State specialist hospital in Okitipupa, due to excessive bleeding as a result of being violently raped by a notorious man identified as Jimmy. The incident happened, yesterday, in Irele and the perpetrator is currently on run. The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has now charged the Ondo State Police Command to swing into action and bring the perpetrator to book. According to an eyewitness, the police is not ready to take up the case and the girl was initially returned to her parents. Her father is identified as Tosin Abosede and his contact number is given as O8148543959. The wife of a 34-year-old Nigerian PhD student, Thomas Orhions Ewansiha, has lamented the death of her husband in the Bukit Jalil detention centre earlier this week. In a video currently circulating on the social media, the mournful wife of the deceased who was in tears, wondered why her husband would be treated in such a brutish manner to the point of death. Obviously filled with sadness as she cried profusely, the wife said having spent all he had acquiring education to PhD level, with right papers he had acquired to justify his stay in Malaysia, her husband was still maltreated by the immigration officers who she said allowed her to die like a chicken. Instagram has announced that its working to root out bullying on its platform with a new tool that effectively allows users to shadow ban people who are bullying them. The new feature would make comments from a bully invisible to everyone but themselves, in essence leaving them shouting into a void without realizing that their comments are not being seen by others. The term "shadow ban" refers to a practice of softly silencing posters that many heavy users of the platform accuse Instagram of engaging in. In essence, a person is removed from the community without being notified. Instagram creators believe that the app does this for perceived infractions against the Terms of Service that don't necessarily rise to the level of an outright ban, pointing to notable declines in their reach after controversial posts. Instagram denies doing this. The new feature is much more deliberate, allowing users to corral their bullies away from the rest of their followers. In a blog post explaining the new tool, Instagram said they settled on the one-party-privy exile because of users' fear that outright blocking their bullies might result in escalation. “We’ve heard from young people in our community that they’re reluctant to block, unfollow, or report their bully because it could escalate the situation, especially if they interact with their bully in real life,” Instagram head Adam Mosseri said. Some of these actions also make it difficult for a target to keep track of their bully’s behavior.” In addition, Instagram has unveiled an automated feature that would encourage people to stop and think before posting hurtful comments. Comments that are flagged by the app while the user is posting them will cause a pop-up that encourages them to "keep Instagram a supportive place.” Instagram says that tests of this feature showed that moment of self-reflection to be effective. "From early tests of this feature, we have found that it encourages some people to undo their comment and share something less hurtful once they have had a chance to reflect,” Mosseri said. Former Super Eagles skipper, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha is among the professionals, technocrats and experts, inaugurated on Monday by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State as members of the last batchof the sectoral ad-hoc committees to review various sectors of the state government and design roadmaps for optimised service delivery and advancement of good governance in the state. It’s worth to note that Governor Ugwuanyi had inaugurated the first batch of seven ad-hoc committees in the sectors of education, health, public service reform, security, justice, water and chieftaincy community matters. In his last listing, Mr Ugwuanyi listed ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha as the technical adviser of youths and sports committee. The governing council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra, has dismissed Dr Peter Ekemezie, a senior lecturer at the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences of the institution over certificate forgery. According to a report by Daily Trust, the senior lecturer was sacked for the gross misconduct of plagiarism. He was accused to have forged a B.Sc certificate from the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers state. Ekemezie was found guilty of the act by a committee that was set up by the council to probe the allegation of plagiarism and the claims that he got his B.Sc from the University of Port Harcourt. A letter by the council said that the institution’s decision was guided by the provision of its constitution to relieve Ekemezie of his duties with immediate effect from Wednesday, June 26. The case started when one Uche Egolum petitioned the university to recover her money which he paid to the lecturer to help her get a degree at the University of Port Harcourt in 2004. A man has been arrested for killing a hooker for ritual at his house located inside Corporation Estate, Mile 12, Lagos. After being caught, the suspect revealed that a herbalist, Segun, told him to kill the victim at exactly 12 midnight and bring her private parts. Giving an account of how he was caught, an eyewitness said: “Around 11:30pm, my friend and I were outside our gate because there was no light. This dude walked past us with a girl and 30 minutes later, we heard a noise from the girl twice, shouting, “help me, please help me” and the noise died down. A man later walked up to us and asked if we heard any noice and we said yes. The man said he knows where it came from, so we ran to the main gate to tell the security guards that there should be no movement in or out of the estate. As the suspect was walking up to the gate to leave, we stopped him and told him that we heard a noice, but he initially said he does not know anything about the noise. I moved close to him to tell him that we saw him when he entered with a girl and asked what happen between them. He then said that they had a misunderstanding and have settled it. . I, however, insisted that we need to see the girl and hear from her if all is well. We then walked him back to his house and upon entering the compound, we saw lot of blood on the floor and a knife. Two suspected armed robbers have been beaten to death by an angry mob in Abraka community, Ethiope East council area of Delta State. The suspects Uchenna Ezekonyi, 27 and Mbachu Sunday, 30, were reportedly beaten to death after a failed robbery attack on one Moses Emoghene. The indigenes of Oguta in Imo State had snatched a polythene bag containing the N250,000 from Emoghene, who had withdrawn the cash from the Zenith Bank branch in Abraka. The attempted robbery went sour when Emoghene, who had drawn the cash on behalf of the parish priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, raised the alarm as he was being attacked by the duo. The mob that responded to the distress call made by the victim descended heavily on the suspects, beating them so badly the two of them died before policemen could get them to the hospital. When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke, confirmed the report, saying, “yes, it happened”. Below is a terrifying road rage incident that was captured on dash cam as a man punched an 18-year-old on the highway and took his keys. In the video making rounds online, the older man while the car was on motion, dragged the teen down the road for bashing his car. When the teen went to retrieve his keys, the man drove along with him hanging on the door. According to reports, the man has since been arrested. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she was feeling fine despite visibly shaking while greeting Ukraine's president on a baking hot day, today, in Berlin. Merkel, 64, was seen shaking as she stood next to Volodymyr Zelenskiy while a military band played the two countries' national anthems in the midday sun. .
