Sure! I have always wanted to. I was waiting to finish it, so I could say if it is actually worth the while, before I make recommendations.

Anyways, since you asked. There are several of these programs and it depends on where you live and your profession, I can only speak of Toronto as that's where I am and have knowledge of. There is:

Toronto District School Board (TDSB)
Dufferin Peel Catholic School Board(DPCDSB)

Their program is broken into two parts: In class training and a work placement. for TDSB, it's usually 8wk in class training and 6wk work placement. While, DPCDSB is 8wk in class and 14wk work placement. The in class triaining focuses on enhancing soft skills.

Requirements:
You are a recent newcomer, you are internationally-trained, you have professional experience in your home country related to your education, but not in Canada
English Language Assessment Certificate (CLB level 6 or higher is mandatory)
You are competent with a computer

Note: IELTS isn't acceptable proof of English skills for the program. You would need to sit for an English test with YMCA, I wasn't charged for it.
Thank you so much. Hope it all goes well.

Thanks alot. Good thing is I came mentally prepared for the challenges, time is all it would take. I am not in any way ruffled, the survival job pays enough to sort out my bills and keep some decent savings for goals, only thing is that it takes a part of me with it.

Yeah she basically wanted canadian education/credentials or canadian experience to substitute. The unpaid co-op is pretty much a volunteer kind of thing, I start out this week and in a couple of months I'd have some Canadian experience, references and network in my field. Hopefully, that helps. All the same, I am bent on starting a masters or diploma soon, it has always been one of my todo. My objective is to ensure that in the end I cross all their T's and dot their i's. its their game, I wouldnt nag about the rules, my preoccupation is doing all I can to win.

cheesy Nice to learn you are a Super Lioness, who knows we may have met. may our roar never turn to meow.
Hi @einsteino. Can you please provide more information on the bolded? Like the name of the programme and requirements. Thank you.

werepeLeri: Most of the people talking about JFK, Heathrow, Oliver Tambo etc are people who havent been to these airports before. 2006 - Oliver Tambo airport was as bad as the remodelled airport - it was refurbished before the World Cup and what's the talk about it. Most people sit on the internet and search for pictures to make a point. How many airports have they been to? I bet none, they just keep talking about mediocrity like they just learnt the word. LOL. What else will you want them to do? Build Airports with Gold? Na wa. The Kotoka airport in Ghana cant even stand MM2- People will just talk no matter what - but then, no be them get their mouth?

So because people smile when government officials are around then means they are boot lickers? That opinion is the worst I have listened to lately. Maybe they should be crying then when they are with govt officials.
OR Tambo has always been a magnificent airport and you cannot compare OR Tambo Airport of 2006 to any one we have right now in Nigeria. There is simply no basis of comparison.

How anybody can call Nigerians lazy people is simply amazing. Nigerians have been literally raped over and over again by its leaders. They provide their own water, electricity, sanitation etc. These are basic government services in saner climes. Their children goes to schools not fit for humans, they go to hospitals that are moribund, drive on roads that are death traps. Against all odds, parents send their children and they end up being unemployed. People do small businesses, due to lack of power, they rely on generator. What does the government do? Double the cost of doing business and send them out of business. Any society that does not take care of its poor and underprivileged will never be prosperous.  Absolutely nothing works. Government does absolutely nothing. Yet Nigerians take it all these in their stride and try to make the best of the situation. And you still call them lazy and looking for handouts?Amazing!

If they are involved in sharp practices, surely there is a regulator to keep them in check? Even with the removal of fuel subsidy, the only change is that government stops paying these folks and transfer the bill to Nigerians. PoliticsRe: Farmers Besiege Osun Assembly Over Alleged Inhuman Treatment by Crescentd(m): 11:47am On Nov 29, 2011
I dont normally comment on many articles in this forum but I feel obliged to comment on this one.

Its unfortunate that people who have no clue about what has happened and what is happening in Osun State, feel they can ram wrong information and outright lies down our throat.

I am from Osun State and I am definitely not complaining about our state governor and his government.

This guy is freeing us and our children unborn from suffocating debt the previous administration got us into. A debt of 17b for what? To build stadium,  for that alone, I am not complaining.

Our state is now peaceful compared to just over a year ago when killing and destruction was the order of the day, the governor himself escaped assassination several times, many people lost their lives especially in Ilesha, including people known to me, for this I am not complaining.

The government has been making effort to cut the cost of governance. The governor is doubling as the Commissioner for Works and his deputy is also the Commissioner for Education and they are on one salary, whats there to complain about when we know that for a state to grow, it needs to reduce its recurrent expenditure drastically. Through this cost cutting, the state has saved up 30b for capital projects. We are definitely not complaining.

Infact there are so many things we are not complaining about. Things that the PDP had 7 years to do but they simply couldnt.Instead, mediocrity, thuggery and brigandage was foisted on our dear state.

However, I dont believe the current Governor is the best thing since sliced bread. He has his own flaws. But I believe he is going in the right direction, he is making the tough decisions and he surely deserved to be given a chance by us(OSUN STATE RESIDENTS AND INDIGENES) and we are giving him that chance.

Lets not attempt to destroy a good man through lies and fabrications, let us criticize our leaders constructively to take our nation forward and condemn those leaders who are hell bent on destroying our country.

Thanks.

While i like fashola ,i think it is ridiculous that he is even commissioning an off-ramp.  undecided For GOD's sake when are nigerians going to stop celebrating infrastructural upgrades that do not require celebrations. It is a freaking off -ramp for freaks sake not 4th mainland brigde.Nigeria is the only country where roads are commissioned amidst fanfare like it is a cure for cancer.

I can't vouch for other countries but in johannesburg ,new off ramps are built and completed every month.Once the off ramps are completed they are immediately open to the public without any fanfare. We need to really address how Governemnt is wasting money.I am sure that small ceremony to commission the bridge would have cost the the tax payers no less than N50000.

We like fanfare too much in Nigeria that is why we have a messed up Government and a messed up country.By the way is it true the amount spent was bogus? Fashola may be better than the other Governors but that does not mean he is "really" a competent and trustworthy Governor especially when you compare him to his peers in civilized countries.
Very true!

So what did SA achieve? Everyone but SA knows the futility of trying to reason with a mad man. SA missed the point, no one will remember their unsuccessful role, but they will now be seen as stumbling block by the NTC who will has become Libya de facto government. Nigeria by aligning itself with the US, UK, France has gained three important allies in the run-up to the security council position, without doing much running around. Now some may term opportunistic, but in diplomatic circle (where it matters), it is call tactical posturing or better still strategic positioning. SA is gradually isolating itself from the West, it's a void Nigeria is filling.

Now how do will win the Russians and Chinese over? Let see how it rows.
You think just saying Yes to everything the West says makes you a strong ally? I disagree with that. At best it makes you a junior ally and not an equal ally that is required to be a member of the security council. To be a respected player in the world stage, a country needs to define his own policies and take positions no matter whose ox is gored and that includes taking contrary views from that of the West from time to time. And because SA is differing from the West on Libya does not mean they differ with them on all other issues. The fact that they believe in something and has the ability to confront the West about it will bring them a whole new respect across board. At the end of the day, nobody respects Yes men.

True, but there is nothing completely wrong in taking the lead while other are on the fence; fortune favours the brave. The United Nation Security Council Seat is the ultimate target, Nigeria and SA are scheming for leadership position. Leaders lead, and that what Nigeria is doing. Let SA follow for now, or remain rooted on the fence.
You honestly believe Nigeria is leading while SA is following? Who was negotiating with the Libyans, Russia, NATO powers etc at the height of the crisis? Who sent envoys to Syria with representatives from Brazil and India recently? Where has "leader" Nigeria been all these while 'follower" SA have been visible on the world stage? Who is the member of G20, a group gradually becoming the de facto global decision makers? The truth is they have been the leaders and we are the followers and until we acknowledge that, it will amount to delusion grandeur and we will never be able to rectify that.
PoliticsRe: Flood Brings Pain In Lagos by Crescentd(m): 8:58am On Aug 09, 2010
It is important to differentiate between flash floods and flood emanating from poor drainage systems. Flash flood is natural and it is caused by excessive rainfall causing rivers and streams to burst their banks (currently going on in Pakistan and the one in Cumbria, UK last year). It will appear that the one in Lagos which is fairly regular is caused by poor drainage system in the city and can be reduced by investing in total rehabilitation or upgrade of the existing ones and building new ones to effectively drain the whole area into the nearest rivers and lagoons.

I followed the argument between you and Beaf; it was interesting.

While I was going through your interesting statistical charts, the wise words of the late Dr Chuba Okadigbo during the second republic (when he was Shagari's adviser) quickly came to mind.

He said and I quote, "Statistics is like the bikini. What it reveals is interesting, but it is what it does not reveal that is intriguing".  grin grin

Could it be true that oil only contributes about 16% to the Nigerian GDP? I truly pray! Though practical things about
Nigeria seriously challenge that.

Can anyone show me statistics about federal government sources of revenues - total tax amount, sources of tax and rates of taxation?

If oil contributes more than any other sector in tax revenues, then it can be reasonably assumed that oil contributes more to the GDP; afterall, is the GDP existing in isolation of the FG taxation?

Critical thinking or analytical reasoning is required here to get to the truth.

I cannot be intimated or hoodwinked with statistics.

Heck, I can come up with mine!  cool cool cool
I agree with this view. Can we find a way to verify this statistics? The same government puts unemployment rate at 17% which most of us disagree with. Like you said anybody can come up with a 'convenient' statistical figures.

People say crime is bad here, but crime is bad everywhere. I am a female and I feel safe down here than in Nigeria. (true talk). I feel like crime rate here is exaggerated. Nigeria crime rate is probably on the same level or even higher than south africa because crime in nigeria is not reported especially with the corrupt bureaucracy that runs the government. How does anybody know what the crime rate is in Nigeria? Nobody has a way of knowing the true crime rate in Nigeria in comparison to south africa where things are run more efficiently. Robbers jailed for swift World Cup justice
Sat Jun 12, 2010 2:49pm GMT
By Phumza Macanda and Wendell Roelf

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African court handed rapid punishment to two men who robbed World Cup journalists from Portugal and Spain, sentencing them to 15 years in jail, police said on Saturday.

The robbery last Wednesday raised concerns about sullying South Africa's reputation before the World Cup even started on Saturday. The country's extremely high rates of violent crime were one of the biggest concerns before the tournament.

The armed robbers raided a lodge north of Johannesburg and stole laptops, mobile phones and cash.

National police chief Bheki Cele had congratulated investigators on making swift arrests, which were processed by one of the special courts set up to accelerate justice during the tournament.

"Two of the accused, Bright Madzidzi, 20, and George Magubane, 28, were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each for armed robbery," said a statement from the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure.

"Ndubuisi Odungwa, 20, was sentenced to four years imprisonment for the possession of stolen property."

TWO CONVICTED

Officials said the two convicted robbers were Zimbabweans and Odungwa was a Nigerian.

Police on Saturday also said team officials from Uruguay declined to press charges over a theft after a person from the team's retinue was caught on closed-circuit television.

Brigadier Sally de Beer said police responded to a report that cash was stolen from the hotel the team, who drew 0-0 with France in their opening game on Friday evening, was staying in Cape Town.

"Police went to the hotel and using CCTV identified a person (travelling with the team). They did not want to press charges," she said.

South Africa hopes a successful World Cup will bring millions more tourists to this country and boost investment. Serious crime during the globe's most watched sporting event could have the opposite effect.

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa said police would act swiftly to deal with criminals.

"The manner in which the investigation was conducted and finalised sends a stern message that our warnings to criminals were not empty threats," Mthethwa he said.

We should all realize that South Africa's crime situation is being compounded by migrants as the bolded part shows.

Interesting story.

I live in SA and this reminds me of sometimes last year when I went to the general hospital of the town I live for medical checks. The nurse on duty asked me for my ID and I told her I am a non south african, so I can only give her my passport.

She asked me of my country of origin and I told her I am a Nigerian. The next thing I heard was "hmmm you must be rich". I was kind of amused with that statement. I asked what gave that impression, and she just said "because you sell drugs".

I was shocked.I retrieved my passport from her and lectured her that not all Nigerians sell drugs, there are many of us working legally in SA and we do work hard to earn our money.

The truth is that is this is how all of us are perceived and the reasons are not far fetched. Our brothers are too involved in criminal activities here. Its always all over the news.Just within the last few weeks, two massive drug syndicates were smashed by the police and Nigerians were behind them.

I am not saying only Nigerians are involved but certainly we are high up there and it is really affecting all Nigerians including those who are earning their money through sweat and hard work.

There is no need to be defensive and hurl insults on SA police, instead we have to accept there is an element of truth in what they are saying and find a way stop these criminals who are hell bent on destroying the image of our great country.

So long!

He might have made mistakes, but I choose to continue to remember him by his heroic efforts to fight on the side of common masses and challenge the cabal that has held us hostage for long time. The fight for which he paid with his life.
