. mikkyphp: Very impressive.
If i may ask, do you also have plans of what you will be doing for money while you're studying hard to accomplish your ambition? Any reason why you chose Calgary?
My 2 cents to you will be to focus on learning the core stats! As for python, focus only on the data related libraries -( Numpy, Scipy, Pandas,Matplotlib, Seaborn and of course Scikit learn) for python.
Your java skills will come in handy if you plan as a data scientist to convert your Analytics models into Data products.
Analytics is the ability to use quantitative data to glean actionable insights, shape decisions and outcome, as well as forecast future variables.
Remember: Data science is the process of formulating a quantitative question that can be answered with data, collecting and cleaning the data, analyzing the data and communicating the answer to the question to a relevant audience. This audience usually are business individuals who do not understand computer jargons. Hence, domain knowledge (e.g Financial service, Healthcare, telecoms etc) and soft skills are required because you would need to be able to understand the problem in order to tackle it and formulate the answer. The answer needs to be communicated using the industry/business parlance. Consider this when choosing your kaggle projects.
Good luck in your journey. |

. wasseynewest: @josefuadjr: I totally agree with u but with a holistic view & from testimonies we've read, the assertions is very close to the truth. @ifeoma: you're very right ma, in fact in my last exam with MOD, there is this guy who sat adjacent to me, I tell u he can't construct a simple sentence correctly & you know what, he came to the hall just to disturb others & cheat. I had to give him a bad face b4 he left me alone. For my mind, I smiled & said u go write IELTS tire. He contacted me after his result was released & he had LRWS: 5.5, 4, 4, 5.5. That said, I will never subscribe that some1 who ace the other three components "beautifully" cannot pass Writing. No no no! Let me add this funny one too, during my 2nd attempt, I met a lady during speaking test and her hubby decided to give me a ride. On our way, I discovered the wifey is d only one writing the test, I inquired from the hubby why he's not writing and he answered "God forbid, I had masters in Architecture and I know my worth, I cannot allow one IELTS be disgrace me cos I can't imagine myself writing it and in the end they told me I failed(lol)". He said his wife & kid shld go while he will be visiting them. |

In addition, I believe all official email addresses from Nigerian Universities end in "@uni.edu.ng". Hence, the need to inform any contact we may have that correspondence to ICES should end as stated above. Just my 2cents. nomad26: My people, let me gist you guys about my ECA journey with ICES so far:
Account created, all documents uploaded and payment made by 7th Sep. Got in touch with a contact at my university (in Nigeria) to send transcripts to ICES via email which ICES confirmed they received on 14th Sep.
Then the wait began...after 5 weeks elapsed, I sent an email to ICES for an update, they said they were still reviewing my application. By week 10 (19th Nov), I was already fed up because I was hoping to enter the pool latest 23rd Nov as my current IELTS (L9R9W7.5S7.5) will expire early Dec. I sent another email to ICES requesting for an update, they replied that they can't verify the email that my transcript was sent from even though it had the school's domain (eg. xxxx@uni.com.ng) so I should have the university send the transcript again through the regular email that they normally use. My people, at this point I was very upset because they could have told me about this issue weeks ago but instead they waited until week 10!!
Anyway, I got in touch with my contact at the school, turned out that the mumu guy sent my transcript from his own university account (he is a lecturer at the university) instead of going through the appropriate channel (Deputy Registrar). All because he wanted to chop money for little stress.
My advice to everyone is if you're going through a contact at your university, please confirm that they are going through the right channel to avoid delay. Because these ICES people will just abandon your application if there's any comma. Please learn from my experience.
I am now in the process of getting my transcripts sent via express courier to ICES. Also, I have now written another IELTS on 1st Dec and hopefully the result turns out favourable |

From Ojota, if you are on the Kudirat Abiola Way side of the road, you would need to cross via the pedestrian bridge to the Ogudu Road side of Ojota. Ogudu Road shares boundary with the Filling Station in between the two pedestrian bridges and the Biode Motor Park second gate. Board a 50 naira cab going to Ogudu and drop at Ramat junction(Ogudu G.R.A. Estate gate). The junction is just after Chicken Republic and opposite Coldstone Creamery when coming from Ojota. Walk through the gate and down Rahmat crescent to the second turning to your right(Bola Ashiru street). I believe MOD office building is the last house to your left on Bola Ashiru street sitting on a cornerpiece. I hope this helps. Grace135: Please how do I get to Mod Idp office from Ojota or Ikeja underbridge? |

Thank You Bsbabe: Hi guys,
I have received quite a number of emails in the last two days since I responded to @TheCongo2 about being a BA. I have tried to respond to some but since I can only share my own personal experience and I seem to be repeating myself in every email, I am posting my response (modified) to the OP here for anyone interested and also so that anyone who still has questions can ask it here and other BAs can respond and contribute more to the pool of knowledge.
Let’s start with companies that can work for you best. That will definitely depend on where you are planning to land and the opportunities in that city. I think a first start may be for you to go to sites like Indeed and Workopolis to get an idea of how prevalent BA jobs are on your side of town. So for me, that’s where you should start from. Then when you see these job postings, review a good number of them to determine the skill requirement ask that is consistent across the different job postings and compare these skill requirements to what you currently have now. In doing that, I would advise you dig deep and think well about your experience because you may have a number of the skills but the way they are presented, you may think ‘oh no, I haven’t done that before’ simply because the work was not presented in the same format in Nigeria. Now for the BA world, the most important skill I believe is your ability to communicate and analyze. And the way you present yourself starting from your resume is a skill in itself. As a BA, you will see them asking for experience and skills in the areas of requirements elicitation, requirements documentation, requirements analysis including the knowledge of BPMN and UML (which covers the development of Use Cases), as well as requirements specification and tracing. Also, knowledge of SDLC is very important – especially Agile/Waterfall and then skills in using Microsoft office tools and in a number of cases, SQL and/or Tableau for data analytics. Oh yes, also knowledge of developing test cases as well. If you are not familiar with these terms, I would advise you go online to do some research. In my case, I bought some BA courses online from Udemy and learnt everything I needed to learn and familiarized myself with the BA terminology here as these terms may appear strange to you at first but after going through BA courses, you will realize they are experiences you have one way or the other but we didn’t use these terms in Nigeria. BA trainings are really expensive (but required if you want to become certified as a CBAP – Certified Business Analyst Professional). So I started with Udemy but still attended a BA training as I needed the units to register for CBAP. I also got myself certified in Agile software development process – so I got certified as a Scrum Master and a Scrum Product Owner. You will see some BA job postings also asking for some Agile or specifically Scrum knowledge. Now, the agile certifications are good to have as they may place you above another candidate if it comes down to a selection but is not a necessity straight away and I say this because honestly, they are not cheap. Each one will set you back at least about $1,200- $1,500 depending on the trainer (You can also research this). I also learnt SQL online and found that from the job postings I reviewed, there were a number of them asking for knowledge of JIRA (this is an issue tracking tool used by most companies now) so I learnt how to use JIRA too and also dabbled into a bit of Tableau. Lastly, once you are familiar enough with BA terminology and all and you are confident, then go ahead and build your resume, tailoring it to each job posting. So first of all, build a master BA resume which will have your experience presented in light of all the BA terminology so e.g. “elicited requirements from customers and documented them for the development team to execute......”, “analyzed requirements, ensuring prioritization of needs according to business goals.......”… something like that (by the time you review and understand what a BA does, you would understand what I mean). Also, present your system skills – so for example “proficient in the use of Microsoft office (advanced Excel is a required skill)” etc. In my case, I added stuff like “working knowledge of SQL and JIRA (as I couldn’t claim to be an expert since I just learnt how to use it). So, I guess that’s the summary of it for me. Your resume is the first contact they will have with you so that’s by far the most critical document you need to develop. And ensure you tailor the resume you submit to the job posting and its requirements. No embellishments though and of course no lies as you will need to defend what you write in an interview. Just try and present your experience in a relevant manner. I really hope I have covered everything from my experience but if you have any more questions or clarifications, let me know. |

To be honest, I don't even know how to repond to this. But please just for next time sake, if you have nothing reasonable to say, don't comment on this thread. Thank you. cocococo: Must everybody go to Canada? The craze is becoming too much. Canada, Canada, Canada! Some people will be writing IELTS up to 10 times all in the name of I must leave this country! The ones that manage to pass will run here and be saying, ‘Thank God I finally made it!’. While those that finally get the PPR will not let us hear word, be quoting different dates of the stages, like I care! You guys are the ones making these developed countries look down on us! IELTS is making the standard of exam more difficult day be day, WES is adding WAEC for ECA, IRCC is increasing minimum POF and cost of application fee! But we are still patronizing them, pumping the money into their economy! By the time you reach there with all the funds you are taking into Canada, you have pumped so much money into a foreign country, money that you cannot generate and send back into your own country Nigeria from where the funds came out from, thus depleting our country of resources. |

Gbam! Well said. smslive2: First... Congratulations on your PPR and COPR... May the land favour you Second... I rarely respond to people's personal issue on this thread cos sometimes it might be very sensitive HOWEVER, when you come on public forum like this to ask for help, expect people to give you advice based on the information you provide to them. I am almost certain that if you had mentioned that your point is 467, most people would have advised accordingly. My advise is that if you dont want emotional commentators to comment emotionally, then either dont bring it to public forum or give full facts so as to be guided without emotion. |

For work experience, she is a biology instructor at one A level school.I submitted letter from the employer, company ID card, business card from the General Manager and payslip. In addition to the above, i stated clearly the salary from the school is been paid with cash.
ADR came requesting for Additional proof of employment, including at least: pay slips and proof of payment of salary into account. I got letters from the Account department of the school stating again that salary is paid with cash and another letter from the Admin dept of the school. 6 month pay slips and LOE for the ADR.
