he can settle out of court but inaddition to whatever compensation he settles for, he should demand for a public apology in at least 2 national newspapers. That can at least manage to salvage his tainted image in public. |
KillerBeauty:I agree to some extent that you cannot easily learn the language before you get to Norway. The best way of learning a language is surrounding yourself with speakers. And I also disagree that you cannot fully learn it until you arrive Norway. When I got here, two people testified about a lady that learnt Norwegian before arriving here. I got to meet her last month and she said she learnt it to a degree she could make herself understood and to a very good extent understand people all under 9 months. Let me share a story. I went for an interview just 7 days I arrived here and after a smooth exercise, the Norwegian said it was unfortunate he couldn't hire me despite he being interested in my skill set but me not speaking the language made him reach the conclusion to not offer me the job. He then advised I take my time to learn the language and get used to the system. When you get here, the locals will tell you to take your time. Unless you have all the money in the world and can afford to not work. Then you may take your time. But If you are like me who slightly regrets not making the move to leave Nigeria at a younger age and now has a family to take care of, you won't take your time. You have to hit the ground running. If you are student and at the same time have to work alongside your studies, the 2 years you estimated might turn out to be prolonged. As the stress of daily life might prevent you from mixing with Norwegian speakers. You won't realize the seriousness of this language matter until you get here. Aktor:For all of you advising him to take up the offer, I will advise him not to take it if he does not feel comfortable with it. We here know Norway is a great country but its not a country for everyone. Jobs are difficult to get not to talk of professional jobs. Hence people use it as a transit country. When I left Nigeria for Norway, a friend of mine also left for UK at the same time and he got a job after one week (even though it was not a professional job) while I was still searching for a job without success. Since I had a family to feed and was under financial stress, i had no choice but to start searching for any job and that still proved difficult. Eventually I got something to do and my financial stress ended but it was initially tough. A lady also on this thread got admission to study the same course as my wife but she turned it down and headed to the UK with her family. Her husband and her were able to get basic jobs early. A Ghanian friend I have in Stavanger has a job with Schlumberger waiting for him in Italy but he his reluctant to leave Norway and is trying his best to get a job but its been difficult. Getting a professional job in Norway is difficult after studies as our names, colour and inability to speak Norwegian is a disadvantage. So my friend, go to an english speaking country if you do not feel comfortable with Norway. Norway is not everyone's destiny! Although It is one of the best countries in the world with a system better than America or England but getting a job is difficult unlike those english speaking countries. Norway or English speaking country?? The main thing is leaving Nigeria for a western country!! |
Cornrows:Truly its a funny one which I have never seen before. Do you have in excess of N12m to send to Norway as per the POF for both schools? And if you do, you may succed in getting the visa but where you will run into roadblocks is when you have to renew your study permit. The school through which you were granted a visa has to send a document to immigration showing that you are still a student but in your case it wont happen therefore UDI will most likely reject your renewal request & your dishonesty will be laid bare. Its a sharp suggestion to game their system but one which will collapse when the time comes. |
@ Ajibolaoi I can't say learn it to Level A1, A2, B1 or B2. Just learn it to a point where you can understand and respond when engaged in a conversation (be it broken Norwegian). How many months will depend on how fast you learn new things and desire to learn it. |
The most important advise I will give prospective students and applicants is: LEARN NORWEGIAN BEFORE COMING! I can't stress that enough. That is what will open doors for you in Norway. |
Exceldamsel:I am doing great. Thank you. If your family has EU citizenship, yes you can travel immediately with your family but If you have Nigerian citizenship like I and my family, perish the thought of going immediately with your family. Waiting time for a spouse to join a partner who is a student depends on many factors e.g your nationality and if you have children or not. If you have children, you must do a DNA test. Realistically budget between 2 - 6 months from the time your spouse student leaves for Norway (and not when you apply) to join them. |
uchechukwu007:Schengen countries share the same database with regards to applications, refusals and visa issuance. When you apply to Norway, there is a part they ask if you have been rejected by another Schengen country. State yes and the reason (that is what I mean by clearing it up). Since the reason for the refusal was something mundane and not crime related (false documentation, forgery, false information etc.). A refusal by another country does not mean an automatic rejection by Norway. Only a ban from another Schengen country will mean an outright ban from Norway. |
TNORWAY:Like I said.. Slim. But you may beat the odds. I don't know the kind of annointing you carry. Lol.. |
Easternheart:Students and their spouses do not pay the same visa fee. Their visa categories are different. Find attached the visa fees for family immigration and for studies. I am currently in Norway on a family immigration permit. After foreign exchange, what I paid as visa fee amounted to N640,000 for myself and N280,000 for my wife. This was before Naira:Dollar became 570:1. So I can bet that that amounted would have further increased. Another look just before posting this and I discovered that study permit visa fee has increased. When my wife applied for her visa, it was 4000 and something NOK but I can see that it has now been increased to 5,900 NOK. Prospective students should brace up!
|
@ Ajibolaoi Yes. 640,000 Naira. |
@ TNORWAY, clarify your comment. @ Ajibolaoi, its free for children under 18. 640k for your spouse. |
Femiomoh:I guess you are the one that mailed me. I have replied. In addition to what I said, student visa fee is like 280k while your spouse will be almost 640k depending on exchange rate fluctuations. |
TNORWAY:Very very slim! I personally know of a lady that was denied. Maybe if you have strong ties to your country (say you are married and with children) your case might be an exception. |
uchechukwu007:Not in all cases. If the issue that made them reject an application in another schengen country is not cleared up, then it might also lead to a refusal by Norway. When you apply to Norway after a refusal by another country, the ask you why were u rejected. Yes you can appeal a study permit refusal by Norway but if there is no new development or document on your part, the denial is most likely to be upheld. |
Omini247:Nothing out of the ordinary per se. High CGPA but not in all cases. Because they have a certain quota for admission, what usually determines success in admission is the number of qualified applicants against the available spaces. And I know for a fact that they usually admit more than the spaces allow for because they know not everyone who is offered an admission place takes the offer. @ toyin03, uwc. All the best in your application. |
@ uchechukwu007, there is no interview. All you need do is submit your passport along with your documents and after their checks, they will notify you if your visa request is denied or issued. @ KillerBeauty, when the school notifies you if you have been granted admission, they usually give a one month window in which you have to transfer the money. @ vinlyreeks, you only need one transcript for multiple study programs in one school. The admission office of the school is the department that receives the transcript and it can be accessed by all the departments you are applying to. @ lady25, if visa is denied, the school will send the money back to the applicant. All you need do is notify them. @ toyin03, yes Norway is expensive compared to other European countries but at the same time their salaries are higher compared to those countries. Vaseline I buy in Lagos for N300, after currency conversions, its N930 in London but 1250 here in Norway. When you get a job and start earning their currency, you will realize life here is not expensive as you are made to believe as you generally will be earning well. Its only expensive if you bring your own currency and start doing all the conversions. Yes. I and my son have joined my wife in Norway. Fiance!! I don't remember mentioning fiance. Although I know boyfriends/girlfriends/fiance/fiancee can visit their partners for periods but its only applicable to partners of Norwegian citizens and I think that was just a different visa program during the lockdown when there were strict entry requirements. I don't know if the program is still ongoing as entry restrictions have been lifted. @ anakinmike, I doubt as a student you will get anything more than a 1 month visa validity. If you need more than a month, apply for another visa category. But why will you need 8 - 9 months visa validity if I may ask? @ Omini247, they cant deny you admission on that basis. So far you meet the requirements, you are good. @ Mykelslim, their Msc programs are 2 year programs. Bsc, 3 years. |
cletz991:To the school's account. It is a requirement to be issued a visa. If you don't send the money, forget about the admission which in turn will lead to a visa denial. When you get to Norway and you open a bank account, the school will then send you back all your money. |
@ Omini247 Yes. You have to direct your alma mater to send the transcript to schools in Norway. |
Ojemedad:The money does not have to be in your account for 2 months. Your sponsor need not transfer the money to you. Just show a closing balance of the required amount. Sure you are aware that if offered admission, you are required to transfer 126,000 nok (N 6.2m - N 6.4m depending on exchange rate) before you are given your visa. |
Well I used Kotoka Airport, Ghana back in September and I had no reasons to complain about the Covid test process. I understand the process might have changed since then. |
Ricci22:You will become useless to their country and to yourself as an illegal immigrant. Its not like America that you can pretty much make it as an illegal immigrant. |
uchechukwu007:Its not a problem. Anyone can act as your sponsor. |
Omini247:Students are only allowed to work for only 20 hours a week and not a minute more. LLM or no LLM, you will most likely end up doing non formal jobs e.g cleaner, bartender, washer, kitchen assistant, deliveries e.t.c My wife is a student in Stavanger and she got a job offer as a cleaner in Scandic Hotel. The work contract stated she was going to be paid 185.15 nok per hour ($20.35 as per today's exchange rate on google but I remember vividly it was $23 on that particular day she got the offer). Eventually, the job offer was withdrawn as they needed people on full time basis but my wife wanted part time. What a student would earn will depend on the sector. |
@ Beolly CuteTj:Getting a job shouldn't be a problem but there are going to be challenges (e.g. Not bearing a Norwegian name, poor or no Norwegian language skills). The ability to read /write and speak the language should make it easier to secure a job. Not possessing Norwegian language skills shouldn't be a problem for those in the IT and Hospitality sectors. As I speak, the job market in Norway has a lot of job vacancies as pre-pandemic levels after serious job losses caused by the corona lockdown and entry restrictions. |
Cherryberry456:Go back and reread my comment you quoted but slowly this time and point out exactly the part you claim I gave false information. |
Lens101:3 years to get PR. Unfortunately, the time used schooling will not count. Those who go on a student visa and want to get a PR, have to finish their studies, secure a job and then change to a work permit. Their three years starts counting from that point. A student can't travel with their partner or family members like UK. He/she will have to join later. Those applying for family immigration cannot even be in Norway while Norwegian Immigration is processing their application. |
@ Ririmomeh114 Ask me any question on this thread and i'll be glad to answer you. |
odimbannamdi:I doubt it! They abide by the law/instructions to the last letter. When I applied, the application closed on 10th December and my transcript didn't get there until first week in February (8 - 9 weeks late) despite applying for my transcript since November. I wasn't disappointed when I was not offered admission. |
@ So10 Application for most schools end on the 1st of December while a few (e.g. University of Stavanger) closes on 15th of January. If you have all other required documents and you are sure your school can deliver your transcript (within two weeks) to the schools whose application closes on the 1st of December, do go for it. |
Differentiate:No one can answer if their visa is hard to get or not. You will never be denied their visa provided you meet their stringent requirements. |
firstlady99:I shared a link on this thread a while ago where you can check the competitiveness of a course (the number of people that applied, the number of people that were offered admission and also the number of people that actually resumed for the course). I can't remember the exact page it was on. Search and you shall find it. |
@uchechukwu007 Make the mistake of sending the hard copy you have and kiss your chance good bye. The transcript hard copy must come from your school and not from you. The copy you have with you which I believe is a student copy should only by attached as soft copy when applying on the portal. Your school has to send the hard copy I repeat. You can use anybody as sponsor provided the amount in the account statement is equal to or more than 126,000 nok and also the person writes a sponsorship letter. The country which the account statement is coming from is irrelevant. |
