I remember prior to the Olympic games in Atlanta USA when the dream team played a friendly match in Lagos and lost and lot of people condemned them that they were not good.They went to the games and conquered. This is a friendly match.

This has happened so many times with Nigeria. We lost to Sweden and Romania enroute USA94. Lost scandalously to Yugoslavia and Holland on our way to France 98. In both tournaments we won our first two World Cup games and qualified for the 2nd round.

Too many stray passes in midfield from the Eagles.

As for those bad-mouthing the team, how about you start by not overrating the team. We are not even favourites to come out from our group. So why not get behind the team and hope they have a decent tournament.

This is how you lot were mocking them in the first half of the friendly against Argentina. It's a bloody friendly.

Ramos has a different story though.

Personally, I didn't think there was any malice involved. We see players do this all the time when competing for the ball.

It's always best to have other streams of income, be it a side business or wise investments. You don't have to be a billionaire, but have enough to secure a comfortable future and leave a decent inheritance for the next generation. It isn't always easy but at least make sure to give it your all.

We all have different goals in life and we all come from different backgrounds. Success can be in stages. And at a point in some peoples lives, owning a car and being able to pay their rent is "success". It doesn't mean they are not aspiring to move to the next level of what they consider success. Money isn't the true measure of success.

Like many have said, success is relative and varies from different stages of life. If money in your fat bank account or material things are your only benchmark for success, then you know little about what success is.

The NTA showed "Brazilian Football" at 10pm in the 1970s and early 1980s. It was produced by O'Rede Globo and that's when I first followed Brazilian teams like Flamengo, Vasco Da Gama and Sao Paolo. (The NTA also showed a Brazilian variety show called "Fantastico", which was also produced by O'Globo). They stopped showing Brazilian Football around 1984.

Brazilian Football was so popular that it reflected in the names of Nigerian football clubs. Nitel's football club was called Nitel Vasco and Stationery Stores' nickname was "Flaming Flamingo".


The NTA also showed "Football Made in Germany" in the late 1970s and early '80s. It was produced by Transtel Cologne and the commentator was usually Toby Charles. They stopped showing it around 1984/85 and started showing it again around 1990 when Germany won Italia '90. You could watch Akpoborire, Okocha and Yeboah on the NTA in the mid 1990s.

Segun Odegbami started his Serie A show on NTA2 Channel 5 in 1989 and you could watch the 3 Dutchmen at AC Milan, the 3 Germans at Inter Milan and the Ma-Gi-Ca combination at Napoli on Sunday mornings.

The NTA also often showed the English FA Cup final live in the 1980s, but they were not consistent.

The NTA started showing European Champions League matches in 1993. This was courtesy of Canal France International (CFI). I will never forget watching Barcelona (Romario and Stoichkov) destroy Manchester United 4-0.

Of course the NTA also showed Bournvita Match Of The Day (Nigerian League) in the 1980s.

There were quite a few Nigerians that supported English teams in the 1970s and '80s. I had an uncle that supported Sheffield Wednesday and another uncle that supported Liverpool (he played for Nigeria in the 1960s).

My uncle that supported Liverpool went to watch the 1986 FA Cup final and he told me what happened at the British High Commission when he went to get his visa. He wore his Liverpool scarf and luckily for him, the person that interviewed him was also a Liverpool fan, so they spent the time talking about the club and he got his visa.

By the way, Multichoice came to Nigeria c1993 when they bought over ABG's operations in Lagos, but they were not the first satellite TV or pay TV operation in Nigeria. Ultima and other companies were already selling satellite dishes since 1985, while ABG became very popular in 1990.

Thank you boss. I knew you wouldn't disappoint. I actually remember being enthralled by the amazing Dutch trio of Gullit, van Basten and Rijkaard, even though I wasn't a fan of AC Milan or any club at the time. I also remember watching Romario and Stoichkov telling each other off, only to happily celebrate a goal together not long after. They were such a pair. And yes, ABG and their giant dishes back then.
