The question isn't about smokers being good or bad or successful people. It's about smokers being responsible people.

Cecero: I don't think I have equated anything here. Perhaps you're the one trying so hard to do the equation. All what I'm seeing here amounts to nothing but mundane grapevine. Nobody has come up with any statistics to substantiate that smokers are irresponsible. I have only tried to draw up a sample of persons who have distinguished themselves even though they're smokers. Just as I mentioned that there is no correlation between being a smoker and being irresponsible, there is also no correlation between being hard working and being a smoker. Anybody who takes to smoking just because a GMD is a smoker and he excelled is nothing but a narrow minded simpleton. I only used it as an instance to show that there is no causality between the two variables mentioned. I believe that there is a subtle correlation between smoking and being responsible. Because, someone who sees a worthy mentor smoke will also smoke - or want to smoke. Most people didn't start smoking buy just wishing it or hearing about it unlike drinking. They saw someone close doing it and it looked good on them. Hence, their involvement. Also lifestyle responsibility should involve setting a right example. Obama stopped smoking after a long battle because he wants to be able to tell his daughters that he does not smoke (Google it yourself). That's responsibility. He may be the president, but knew that he wasn't a responsible father to his daughters if he continued smoking. |

Cecero: It is pure shortsightedness to think guys who smoke are irresponsible. There's no justification for that whatsoever. Its just a habit like every other normal habit. I am a banker and my BM who is already an accomplished banker is a chain smoker. He smokes cigarettes like it's food, but I can never imagine him as being irresponsible. He is a deputy manager. It takes a whole lot of hard work and responsibility to get to that level. Infact, I heard that my GMD CEO is also a chain smoker too. I'd be utterly irresponsible to imagine that such people holding such exalted posts are irresponsible. They certainly couldn't have gone that far if they are irresponsible. Maybe Obama too is irresponsible since he is a smoker. Sister just change your orientation. You'd be surprised that that your boy friend you love so much is also a smoker but only hides it from you maybe out of respect. So what happens the day you discover? You discard him as being irresponsible? Certainly not it. There's no correlation at all dear sister. Years ago when I was much younger, I went to confession (I'm a Catholic). What was my sin? I smoked. The priest(may his soul rest in peace) is white. He simply advised me that smoking is not a sin. That I should just be mindful of my health while at it. My point, smoking does not equate to being irresponsible in any way. Very good write up bro but I think there's a mix up here. In your posts, responsibility is equated to hard work and sin. A smoker can be the most hardworking person on the planet, but it doesnt make him responsible as far as lifestyle is concerned. Responsibility is setting a good example for others. The ability to know that you are leaving a footprint that others can follow. In your GMD's case, this is very worse and worrisome as other people will think it's alright to smoke and excel. Not understanding that people's body systems are different. Someone who wants to be like your GMD can take up smoking and his body may not be able to withstand the issues that come with it. Complications can start very early in his life. What is bad is bad. |

A constant erosion of values. This our generation ehn...
What do you call someone, who takes up smoking continuously - when they fully know that it kills? If that is not irresponsibility, I don't know what is.
Someone who smokes is likely to progress to other forms of drugs and even cocaine. Because since they couldn't control themselves as regards smoking, how can they control themselves not to take other hard drugs. Check it, most junkies started with a drag of a cigarette.
That's irresponsibility. |

GuyfawkesAB: Uncle tafrica,
You are correct on the evils of religion. But true Christianity does not align with all that you are trying to explain down here. The Life of Christ and those who live by it is pure, true and holy. It's not "Liberal" in the sens that you explain here, it binds it's adherents to a life of true commitment to the commandments of Christ. A true Christian can't just live anyhow or keep quiet when what is wrong is being promoted without speaking out or rebuking with the intent of love for lost souls. The Bible and its dictates are very clear and straightforward. A true Church need not organize a reality TV show to help talents bud. It's the greed for fame and worldly recognition that makes anyone feel the church needs to match up what the world does so as to satisfy her followers. David didn't need a reality tv show to praise God with his music and writings. The true church won't bend to grease the desires of those who wouldn't take a stand But the true church can buy 4 private jets and open schools with outrageous school fees? Are these not worldly rewards? |

GuyfawkesAB: The Church does not need to organize a reality show to help people. Neither does it need to do that to promote the gospel. The Bible and it's teachings are clear. You either live by it in holiness or quit and follow the world in expectation of the reward of either of your decision.
You don't expect the true church to bend to satisfy the worldly longing for fame and recognition you seek from a reality TV show. David din't didn;t need a reality TV show to praise God with his songs and write all those Psalms The same Gospel that the missionaries taught while bringing free education to us? If not for the free education, do you think you would know about Christianity. You guys talk like this religion is embedded in us from birth. |

9jakohai: Yes....and where would our society be if all the youth can do to prosper is mindless entertainment?
We are an underdeveloped nation because we value the wrong things.
You are defending BBN.....You are attacking a Christian for saying it is wrong by calling him a hypocrite.
Yet, you people do not consider the implications of BBN.....and the message it is spreading.
That all you have to do to make it in life is to sleep with another person's spouse.....and to conduct things that should be done in private right in the open?
Meanwhile, best graduating students in Nigeria win mimiscule prices.
And anyway, the Church in Nigeria does do a lot for the youth, the poor etc. Yes...even those universites which you people like to pretend are means of exploiting the poor provide employment for people who would have been out on the street without job.
Stop justifing wrong doing in the name of hypocrisy. Other countries surpass us because they value intellect. South Korea was a backward village nation in 1960. Heck, Senegal then was ahead of them economically. Want to know why they are prospering.? Because their teachers are HEAVILY VALUED members of their society. Their brains are heavily valued members of their society. Here we are running after people whose rationale for being famous is that they were doing this and that on television.
Honestly you Nigerians!.....How many people is Efe going to benefit? How many jobs is he going to create? You are very wrong bro. No one is justifying BBN. I'm sure you read where I stated that I never even watched it for a minute. Your assumption of values being the bedrock of advancement and development is flawed. Whether you like it or not, we are copying the western world (the so-called highly developed countries) at a very high rate and we are still lacking behind. A few years ago, I saw where 'HEAVILY VALUED' members of the society rushed to get tickets to a show just to catch a glimpse of someone who rose to fame through the release of a sex tape (Kim Kardashian). See, let's forget all these sentimental talk. Entertainment, whether mindless or not seems to pay the bills. How can you convince someone who struggles through school to get a degree, becomes chronically unemployed to not be a hypocrite and not do morally-wrong things to earn fame and cash? Let's be objective here. I hate the BBN show with a passion as I believe it is a show of shame but talk to your politicians and church owners who value their private jets more than the advancement of their church members. I don't wanna hear that talk about churches providing employment. They are simply not doing enough! Take a look at how much they pay even their pastors. Missionaries offered free education, Churches have the highest school fees in the country now and you talk about values? Mschew! Please! The brands sponsoring the show know that is what interests our youth of today and of course made their money. If the church cannot stand up to that challenge and re-orientate our youth minds through their amplified actions, let's stop the blame game and let me hear word abeg. |

This formulates most of what I've been saying since. Standing from afar and criticising will not do anything. I never watched the BBN not even for a minute and I still don't know (or care to know) where or how the 'based on logistics' slang came from. What stops you as a church from hosting your own reality show? The truth is, Nigerians are hungry. You can't take that away. If an average struggling Nigerian youth sees a way to make a name for himself without killing, cheating or making others sad, he or she will surely take it. So I'm long done blaming the youth. The government has failed us already, we know that. The churches are also failing us. If then you say it's not the church's job to host reality shows, then don't complain when your members begin to backslide. God will still ask you lots where you were (with all your money) when they were doing these things. Naughtytboy: MTN TRUE TALK AND IT IS BASED ON LOGISTICS,, The church should organize reality t. V shows like Gospel vocal talent hunt. The fact is we youths in the church are getting carried away, no help from anywhere. Iam a choir master but might go for mtn project fame this year i don't wanna die in poverty. God Pls help me. |

Spot on!!! You literally read my mind! Scash: Actually, I agree a bit with Ali Baba's over acting. I feel he was the only one that over did it. Altho... Sobowale was a little annoying at some points (I love her, don't get me wrong) but no.. all the 'mo ku' was a bit too much.
Oh, I forgot. Zainab Bankole. O ti poju. Especially the place where she knelt down and broke into Yoruba, it didn't look real.
On the upside, I LOVED Banky. Loved his bride. They were awesome! I loved the coker and the couple's entrance. i watched it over and over. Then, out of curiosity, how many Nigerian weddings extends their receptions into the night? And, Where in Lagos state, I mean, which beach in Lagos state would a lone unaccompanied woman wander to? Alone. At Night. God that was UNREAL. That's not Nigeria, we don't run away to beaches (where a little camp fire was burning conveniently) at night because something went wrong on our wedding day.
Asides that, (True to God!) I enjoyed it. A definately relieve from all those annoying king and princesses and throne fighting movies. Kudos to the director. |

I sincerely hope this is not setting a wrong precedence. If you keep pumping dollars into the economy, the people who know that it isn't sustainable will mop up all the dollars, increasing the risk at which the naira will fall when a temporary scarcity occurs. Let's all use our brains and stop shouting Sai Baba upandan!

You see, while I agree with everything you've stated and quite applaud the brilliance behind this comment, these are moral and rational issues. A normal and rational thinking human knows the consequences of hitting a woman. We all know this. Naturally, no one should. But a human, who is extremely irrational won't think of this when pushed to the wall only to regret later. My point is, we can't solve this issue by telling men not to hit women because there are grave consequences for their actions. We tell our youth to abstain from sex not to get HIV and unwanted pregnancies. Do they listen? Absolutely not! They are aware of the consequences but in the heat of passion, they let go of it all (Except a few). I'll rather go with provocation. Can we calm down on the temptations? This is in no way in support of the male folks. Men also get battered and killed by women too. Rage can do anything. Especially if you are trying so hard to suppress it and fail. PeacenLove2: Passion does not excuse crime. Provocation if well proven may reduce gravity of responsibility but still will not exonerate you. You cannot control another human being thus you should not have high expectations as to how well they will not provoke you. You owe at least yourself a duty to show restraint in the face of provocation if you value your life and freedom. To live a respectable life, you must respect yourself and see how people relate with you from your reflection. A person who respects himself respects others. You take advantage of the lawlessness in this society.
The animal behaviour you do not do much to conquer within yourself pushes you to attack someone you think you can take on easily. This shows the lack of human progress and it doesn't distinguish you from animals in the jungle. A woman insults you, if you are unable to ignore her, the fair thing is to insult her back, not beat her up. An uncultured woman slaps you, you slap her back, chances are that you may commit murder. You ruin your lives because you do not realize she is no match for you physically.
Society especially conservative ones as Africa, already puts men in position of mini gods. You have everything going for you. You single handedly ruin your marriage and move on while society puts the blame on the woman. Heck! It is even other women who will castigate their fellow women mostly. Like someone said, these type of women have a special place in hell. Women go through so much and I applaud men who can appreciate them and indulge them even when they are throwing tantrums. I don't know many women who wouldn't go through hell just to keep their homes. The problem is not women in marriage, the problem is the men who have not been taught to see women as human beings. And this is because some other women have raised them to show no mercy at all to their own kinds.
The issue always boils down to respect. For a man to have a peaceful home, he must get over his complex. He must start or learn to see women not as properties or lesser beings. He must learn to expect what he gives. He must see that woman, his wife as a female version of himself. Learn to ask himself, " if someone treated me this way, would I be happy? Would it be fair?". We must stop making lousy excuses for our wickedness. And I hope women continue to show patience, love, understanding and devotion but they must always draw the line. You draw the line or you continue to promote this defeatist and self-hate attitude. |

Can we all take a minute and really digest this?
One of my favourite quotes: A man is not one. A man is infact two.
Behavioural economics are beginning to shed light on the irrational behaviour of humans. And you'll be shocked how irrational and twisted-thinking we are. If you have asked the man in a cold state if he'll ever touch his wife. He'll ask you if you are crazy. Let's leave sentiments and moral comments aside. This is HUMAN NATURE! Your tendency to do things you never thought you'll ever do, increases naturally during heights of passion. The man is no animal. The man is in fact, human. Read a book today!
Don't hit a woman... Please don't hit a woman... That's all we hear and preach.
Please don't provoke a human being! That should be the message we should be passing across as either a man or a woman is capable of attaining heights of rage such as this. |

Babies talking about match fixing and all. No blame to PSG. You have no idea the atmosphere and the psychology of the players. They couldn't believe their luck when they ran riot in Paris earlier. The team is young and highly inexperienced. I'll prove to you: Meunier, Kurzawa, Rabiot, Lucas, draxler. These are young players and were not first team starters under Blanc (Draxler just came in). Previous PSG team had Motta, David Luiz, Maxwell, Cabaye and Ibrahimovic - Experienced lots.
No team in their right minds would have played Barcelona in Camp Nou and wanted to attack with a 4-0 advantage. With 85,000 fans screaming at your back. The plan was clear... Sit deep and wait for a counter. What threw in panic to the game was the first goal in the opening 5 mins. It will take a Real Madrid or a Chelsea to maintain order and calm.
Drop the baby talk about match fixing. Barcelona showed hunger and it didn't have anything to do with tactics. NEYMAR carried the game on his shoulders and it took a while to shift focus from Messi to him. |

I totally agree. The fundamental problems need to be tackled. The cash is too much. But the people who can enforce these rules also have dorm accounts with large deposits of foreign currency. Even our acting president had quite an amount. Boss13: The problem with this is that we are a cash dominated economy. Nigerians love cash. It is a crime in foreign countries to move about with large volume of cash. The police can take it from you. The CBN tried to do something about it, but the generally public screamed. Why should people keep money in foreign currencies in Banks - it is absurd. Are you a BDC? Almost everyone has domicillary accounts with foreign currencies.
The CBN should apply more harsh terms to drive down the volume of cash in this country. Except multinationals, people should not keep FXs in their account. If you want Fx apply for it and use it immediately and not save it in your bank account |

This is the problem. A lot of people dont know what they want. The naira rises, everyone starts blaming the govt. The naira drops temporarily, they praise.
People are asking, is this a sustainable act? It's a good question if you ask me. How long can the govt continue to pump dollars (which they don't have much of) into the economy?
The manufacturers also hoard the dollars and sell to the black market for more profit. Everyone is a financial trader.

Sincerely, if your 'clients' don't care about PRCAN, I'm worried about their calibre. I really don't need to speak to a lawyer. Some things are better off not contested. Rainmaker69: Bro, I'm speaking from a place of knowledge. I served you with facts. The only authority recognized by law is the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Professionals aka NIPR. I figured you'd come up with the bye-law story. I'm not sure you saw what I posted. prcan is a company. Only a law made by the National Assembly or State House of Assembly can create a regulatory organization. You can ask any lawyer. Finally, we all have a duty to hold our administrative bodies to account at all times. The guys at NIPR aren't infallible, they're human beings who are prone to mistakes. It is the duty of members to ensure that they stay within the limits of the law otherwise all their actions will amount to nothing. Ive gone through the pains to type this long message so you can better understand my point. My firm has clients bro and im not interested in PRCAN. ps. Before you respond, please speak to a lawyer about these issues. |

Relax bro, you trying so hard to prove your point. Perhaps you are one of those guys who practice PR as an agency without going through the right authorities. PRCAN was created based on a bye-law from NIPR. If NIPR recognises PRCAN, what's your excuse not to? Good luck in getting clients as a PR agency without being under PRCAN. Rainmaker69: Don't be ignorant man. Perhaps you are confused by my grammar. Prcan is a limited by guarantee company with rc no 692594. It is not established by law, although as a registered company, it is recognized by law. Since it is not established by law, they don't have the powers they currently claim to possess.
Maybe you can tell us what law establishes Prcan? Please state the Act. NIPR is created by an Act- prcan is not. To further dispel your ignorance, prcan is just a registered company. My brother, you should get your facts straight. I have mine. These are the discrepancies some of us in the industry are complaining about. Be well guided. |

Don't be ignorant man. PRCAN is recognized by law. PRCAN is for owners of businesses and organizations. Rainmaker69: This is an easy-to-read writeup. However, PR is a course that is taught in schools today, its not a vocation you stumble upon. Moreover, the law states that you cannot practice PR in Nigeria without being a member of the NIPR. This means even if you study PR in school, you need NIPR certification to practice for profit in Nigeria. You can't get the certification without learning the basics and then some. From my research, Prcan is not established by any law and so Nigerian law does not recognize them. It is illegal to operate as a government agency set up by law. Please be properly guided. |

For those of you asking what value does BBN add to Nigerians...
It enables us to discover ourselves.. By leaving our comfort zone and staying with other 'unknown' people for 60 or 90 days (I think). That way, we begin to display our real selves as evident in our sexual advances, relationship with other people and our energy in performing tasks.
UTTER STUPIDITY! Porn fulfills a need for certain periods of time. This BB is just beyond me. I used to think that mental disorder could be contained, but watching grown men walk up and down a house, drinking alcohol and sleeping with themselves is a whole new and untapped aspect of mental disorder.
And I still blame the pastors of these churches. The same people who go to your church and pay tithes and offerings are the major consumers of these senseless shows. You know why? There isn't enough competition. We all crave Entertainment, but the wrong kind of entertainment dominates our airwaves. Why don't you sponsor an exciting, informative and educative reality show with all the money you have? Give them a run for their money and see how the viewership will change.
I can NEVER watch such a stupid show. It lowers my IQ. No offence to those who watch it. I don't blame Uti at all. |
