His disciples saw him and believe that he is the Christ that day, they even asked him how come the scriptures say Elijah will come before him {Matthew 17:10 compare to Malachi 4:5) he told them that Elijah has come in the person of John the baptist {Matthew 17:11-12} so it was meant to prove to those tree apostles that Jesus is undoubtedly the Christ they've been expecting for centuries.

As for wrong expectations among them it's true. For instance Jesus said something but they misquoted him thinking John will never die until Jesus return! John 21:20-23

So regarding what he said that day he was talking about the transfiguration which some of those standing namely Peter, James and John witnessed.

OK, 2000 years later you know better than those who were there and heard directly from Christ, including all the apostles and St. Paul! Okay o.
Read again the full quotation below. Do you honestly think "Come in his Father’s glory with his angels and reward each person" was refering to the transfiguration. Use YOUR OWN head sometimes!

Not true at all. It's an illusion. There are actually very, very few men indeed that'd "do it" for you - that'd perfectly fit into you, so to speak. Don't know about him, but being healed is not sign the healer is not a con man. Some con men are quite shocked when their con results in real healing. It's the person's faith that heals him. Also placebo effect has been scientifically proven
