In my humble opinion, why pay money to Goethe while you can learn FOC in the Stuttgart?

michlan:
Hello house,

Please I need anyone who can help with advice regarding studying at university of stuttgart. I sent my application for masters program Infrastructure planning and waiting for admission to come out. I however need advice from experienced people in the house about the school and the city. How easy will it be to get a job as a foreign student who doesn't speak German? I plan to start German language immediately the admission comes out. Thanks

You guys should just drop this.

I was granted admission on the condition of English profieciency test result presentation. I wrote back informing them I have parceled in my application document a letter addressed to UniStuttgart that I have done my education in English. Guess the reply? You must present either your IELTS or TOEFL or forgo the admission. Until I forwarded said results, I was not given the admission letter.

In a nutshell, some schools/programs accept the letter, some insist on the exams. I was the only Nigerian who presented such exams as other guys in other programs in same UniStuttgart didn't have to. It's the decision of the schools/program to make.

ogagaejay:
Williamso, some of my comment here Is out of anger, but then, u most get your facts right, being a native speaker is contextual, nigeria is not considered a native speaker in some countries but not Germany, u didn't miss your admission because u couldn't provide a language test, and u know that, anyway, I have enjoyed this topic. May I ask if you are Odedina Jones? If yes, I comment my reserve.
bissiejoe:
Good day all,
Been a while and i hope we are all finding the journey to Deutschland very smooth.
I am here on the defense of the veterans like me who don't comment here anymore, using my own situation. Most times when i come on this forum, i am faced with the challenge of reading like 20 pages, because this thread is very active, few people will argue against that. And most of this queries when i read them have always been answered eloquently, so I don't see any need to add more if i consider that i have to go to class, go to work, read on my own and also cook, it saves me hours and one thing i realised missing is the life here in Germany which some other guys have equally made comments about. It is not easy combining studies and working and also coming here every now and then to make comments, the time is not even there because when you go to class, you will do more self study and there is nothing like area of concentration for exams, you have to know and study everything.
And about the language, you really have to do something from Nigeria to get the basics before coming cos if you don't, you may be frustrated at first with life over here. Learning in Naija would help ur writing and reading a lot and knowledge of words, though you may have little problem with hearing and speaking cos of our accent. The language is key for job opportunities, most germans know basic english and only struggle with vocabularies but will never speak english to you when you apply for work and only few will do. If you need to buy something from them, they will gladly do even when they are struggling with it as we struggle with theirs.
About life here, different strokes for different folks, so it depends on luck and ur zeal and like i always tell people, if you think you can be here as a student and think you will be making money to build mansion in Nigeria, you are on your own but atleast you will make money to fend for urself and pay bills and save little change depending on ur lifestyle(i said this cos i know some folks have that mentality).
Lastly, studies here is not cheap cake coupled with the fact that international students do combine studies with work made it very difficult, but it is possible and can be achieve if you are determine(in Kanu Nwankwo's voice) and focus. With the right zeal and discipline, it can be achieve.

And having in mind that with God all things i men everything is possible

No qualms getting a sponsor, but ARRANGING - if what you mean is what I think you mean - one? I will not touch that with a 10ft spoon if I am you.
kayluxneedsu:
Bottom line, getting someone to pose as a sponor is not viable.. Is that it?

The day it is found out, and I tell you they will find out that you are using an arranged Sponsorship letter, Polizei on your neck. You almost can't do anything productive ever again in Deutchland. I had said this earlier and I repeat it, best thing for you in GERMANY is to be TRUSTWORTHY.

NEVER EVER think about arranging sponsorship letter. It's better you go and collect Syrian citizenshi and come in as refugee or you go and offend PMB and come seek asylum in Germany than to try to trick the system. The system will find you out and the system will kick you out big time.

kayluxneedsu:
Certainly, I have few friends in Europe.. A friend in University of Saarland, a friend in france and UK respectively... Buh they re all students so they can't pose as a sponsor... Is that the reason why you said NEVER?

I hail all the honourables for here.

As una dey arrive in drips and trickles, I want to drop an advice which was given here this time last year.

Carry food as much as you can. All those small small 3euro 4euro meals you will be tempted to eat in your fist few days can fit wreck your pocket. As soon as possible start cooking for yourselves. 3euros X 3meals X 5days = you know the maths.

That's all.

For me, I see no crime in owning up to alternate monikers. I don't deny I am jahjehova, and when someone asked why I dropped it,I simply told him I got tired of it.

Now if there is anything I know about some Nigerians it's the fact that some are very lazy. I used to be that way but coming here has changed my ideology. Some people can't just take initiative. They will ask you to do everyfreakingthing for them. Ordinary application forms some will want you to fill for them. Now to me, that's laziness and I will not bath an eyelid to make charges for those kind of persons.

The way things have suddenly panned out between Futurewiser, Futurewise, and Futurewise11 particularly in recent days that they are even exchanging pleasantries on NL despite one telling the other that he has his digits says nothing more than just playing to the gallery. I will admonish whoever has those monikers to stop this show of shame.

I also come here cause I must confess, this thread saved me a lot in the preceding days tom my German sojourn and I believe it behoves on me to give back to society. The rate at which we Nigerians form for each other na die.

So for those of you #teamwinter2015, I charge you as you come over, be here next year to give back to this society that helped you through it all. I may not be freely available this time next year, but I want to believe that the spirit built in this thread lives on

Finally, Justwise, thanks for this idea

My first question will be why you want to do a bachelors degree afresh? Next is, what will happen to your family? If you can defend these and do same at the visa office, your chances are good. My advice though, don't fund the account until you are sure the visa interview went well.

I need your advice as I just got admitted to cottbus for undergraduate degree in environmental and resource management. but I am a graduate of production Engineering(B.eng).My other application was unsuccessful to same course at masters level and Wind Engineering in Flengsburg.

However,I have applied for blocked account at the embassy and received visa interview date for 9th September.

Kindly advice if it is wise to go for the interview with an undergraduate admission letter considering the fact that I am 34yrs,married with a Bachelor of Engineering degree.

What is the chance of being issued a visa on a scale of 1 to 10.

Candid opinions will be appreciated as I am currently indecisive on my next step i.e to honour the interview or not.

My E-family please advise!
Romance / Re: See What Distance Relationship Has Caused Me! by daimlerbenz: 2:45pm On Aug 25, 2015
Guy, It's not about the distance bro. If both of you are to be unfaithful, you will do same on same bed. Don't put it on the distance. BTW how long is Lagos to Ibadan? I may not feel your pain about the heartbreak o But I don't want you to place it on the distance.

As for the relationship, it's over. You tell person say you dey come, she still carry her legs go straf another guy. Headway no dey there. Does true love still exist? I guess some of us are REALLY lucky.

issylarry:
I had the greatest shock of my life last week, which I never still believe why it happened to me. To cut the story short,I had a fiancee which we have been planning on getting married. In The course of time have been so familiar with her mum and siblings and we were just about preparing for our introduction. Due to the nature of my work I live in lagos and she stays at Ibadan, have been so faithful to her(you all know what am talking about).

On the 16th of aug, (saturday), I told her I was going to come around on the 19th. (Wednesday). when I got to Ibadan on wednesday, I checked-in in a guest house closer to her house. I was so happy been around her again, because I believed since her mum knows me, mehn, I thought I owned her. (That was the best mistake have ever made),Later in the night she was called by her brother to come over, so she decided to go and attend to her brother leaving me with her phone. Seriously, when she left I was just staring at the phone for some minutes and later I decided to check out for some more lovely pictures of my ironical wife. As time goes by I then decided to glance through her chats (wasn't intentional but didn't know what springed that up in me) Her recent chats was laced accordingly to how recent the chats has been. My chats with her was first, then I opened the 2nd chat(what I saw was crazy).

My so called ironical fiancee have been cheating on me. The chats was like my gf initiated the chat with him. She went to his place on Monday and they had sex. This is the lady I want to marry o,seriously I feel love doesn't truely exist. Its just a name not an ACT anymore. I got annoyed and asked her out of my room because if I should see her I could inflicts my annoyance on her(she might end up in hospital).

Now,what can I do? she's been begging me not to tell her elder brother .The mum hasn't heard anything about what transpired, even her siblings and have decided to let them know, so that they would know the kind of daughter they are living with(Packaged-slut). Is that the right decision? Or should I just delete every contacts I have with her? What can I do? Her mum do call me sometimes, now its so obvious am breaking up the relationship! But do I have to tell her mum or siblings who can understand how I really feel about it! Please, can you share me some advice or perspectives! I will appreciate it.

1. Please, introduce yourself, course, school and city. (if applicable)

Dele, Physics, University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart.

2. How does German educational system differ from the system you were used to?

As far as the east is from the west. One similarity though, they don't tutor you well just like Nigeria. They expect you to have known. (My class had to depend on lectures from MIT, ICTP, Stanford and others to understand many concepts)

3. What academic challenge(s) did you face or are you facing currently and how are/did you tackling/tackle them?

As above, I I didn't have the best of tutelage in Nigeria. I came expecting better but was REALLY disappointed. Good news is, it got me married to my books, the internet (Wikipedia - for layman explanation of basic concepts).

3. What is your (academic) advise to prospective Nigerian student coming over to study?(summarized)

Get ready to come work, work, and more work. Also if you can't survive under pressure (time), pick up that ability as you land in your various airports cause here in my program, every lecturer assumes you are here to do his/her course only.

4. Do your school have a size-able number of international students and what is the state of interaction like with them?

Quite a number of them - Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis. We have cordial relationship. I will sure miss my Pakistani flatmate like crazy when his contract expires. For blacks, not so much and somehow I think Unistuttgart peculiarly doesn't have much blacks students.

5. Did you find it difficult integrating into the society and how were you able to overcome it if you had?

a) Language was quite a barrier.
b) I was scammed (identity theft) in my first few months and was moving from police to lawyer and then to police again. Finally, the case has been settled (from my end I believe).

6. In your opinion, do you think a hard working Nigerian student with a particular result can maintain his/her academic performance in
Germany with the same efforts? A scale will be appreciated, I know time is not the only or the best measure of hard work but For instance, A spends 6 hours of study everyday in Nigeria, GPA=4 ". ". ". ". ". ". ". in Germany GPA=?

Germans no wan know the grade wey you carry come. There is no general way of accessing (IMHO) as different programs have different patterns. In my case, all my exams were ORAL. E no easy. If one can put in 4 hours a day during the semester (which requires plenty hardwork and discipline), yes, you can do well. Also it's important one knows the system and run with it. A lot of us didn't. I know better now.

7. Like in any society, there are distractions or factors that reduces performance, what are the major culprits in Germany for an unenlightened
Nigerian JJC?

The fact that you are cramped up with so much to do within a short time period so much so that you can't even find time to read. You are jumping from one assignment to another lab report which you must submit and then to another discussion class which you have to prepare for.
Outside the academic distraction, beer and the thought pursuing of the daughters of eve is another (this is for guys, babes make una no worry, the laws of supply and demand favour una (except for all those Naija guys wey dia eye dey chook for oyibo)).

8. Most of the male or even females at one time or the other would have fantasized having a German Prince or princess, what are their chances? Do the shy Germans gals take to Nigerians? Can Ahbie, crowns or Amahtrendy, twinkle, Obiwann, Eke, Trendy, swtxt, hollaytan, Kennyoguns, get their prince/princess charming easily?

German prince? If you are emotional, German frau oder herr fit taya you easily. A German guy testified to the reason why they meistens date each other - he said the average German guy doesn't know how to express emotions, so he has problems with relationships with other nationals. Same in his opinions goes for the average German girl. They fit themself well. German girl trip for Naija boy? E hard die for my area. German guy trip for Naija babe? BTW only two Naija babes dey the whole UniStuttgart, how I go come answer that question?

9. List 5 most important items an intending new comer should bring along to Germany.

a) Cold clothes (no be all JJC go meet the next available flohmakton arrival)
b) If you be like me wey like beans bring like 10kg of beans.
c) Remaining baggage allowance should be for garri, garri, and more garri. Abeg add soup stuffs too ooo.
d) bring books only if you must. You have more than enough here.

10. Give 5 most important tip to surviving in Germany, jobs and all.

a) Always be truthful. Be obedient.
b) Ask questions. Never stop asking questions else you will be in big soup.
c) Locate and bond with your people. Only they got your back when gobe happen (if it does). This I learnt from my experience.
d) Hard work. If German tell you say na 1 hour work you wan do, bros, sis you will definitely work that hour die. No play.
5) Flee German Frau!!! This might not be true for everywhere, but here in southern Germany, Fraus dey job ooo.I think the highest % of divorce is here. Na business for them.

11 on a scale of 1-10 rate your city in terms of hustle and the closest best place in terms of jobs to your city

10. Stuttgart is the hub/heart of hustle.

12. Just give your opinion on these claims below by indicating with an Agree (A), Neutral (N) or Disagree (D)

a. Germans are cold - Agree (except when they are high)
b. They hate late coming - Strongly Agree
c. They are racist - It's not cast in stone. Even where it exists (and it sure does), they might not show it in the open.
D. They don't have time for chitchat - Agree (except on weekends). Some can be talkative though
E. They are introverts - No be there fault. They are only 60% of the current population. Among themselves, they can fit shout till tomorrow.
F. They love beer - STRONGLY Agree (Once upon a time, they only drank beer. That period, there was no good water available for drinking due to high pollution of water sources - the Bodensee and the Rhine).

I hope I have done justice.
Peace!!!

If you have done due diligence by close marking this thread, then I can only assume that you are good to go. Be that as it may, a few pages back would reveal succinct nuggets including some sample tests you may encounter during your interview. Apart from this, know the Country (its borders with other countries, states and maybe capitals and other details necessary), your school, your course and its modules, your reasons for all the choices you have made and a good flowing story about your sponsors.

Yes, attach the questionnaire to the application pages and enter details as required at the back pages.

It is exactly 3 weeks since you opened the DB account, my belief is that you will get your details any time from today but definitely before your interview.

Wishing you the very best.....

I agree, if there are cheaper options to Stuttgart, he should explore it. Munich? No way. Frankfurt? Book your train ticket with it if possible. Stuttgart? Best deal. You don't get to have the transition issues.

@For others, Land as close as you can to your destination - especially people going to the middle east (Etihad, Qatar, Emirate). You experience a minimum of 3 hours of jet lag. Imagine now travelling and jumping from one connection to another on top of that.

Eke40seven:

Truly, through Frankfurt there are a lot much more array of cheap options. However, if he looks deep he can also find competitive prices in Stuttgart. For instance, Ethihad flight from Lagos to Stuttgart on 30th of September goes at the rate of $641. it will compete with most cheap options through Frankfurt and less stress of travelling. However, Frankfurt is honestly a very good option.

Una just dey argue back and forth about LOS to STR when the one staying in STR still dey this thread. As the Eze Nairaland 1 of Stuttgart, I wish to inform the person planning on coming to Stuttgart, why will you even think of Munich? There is no logical reason for that. For the following airlines, they have favourite routes to Stuttgart - Turkish, AirFrance, KLM. Others prefer Frankfurt. By ICE, frankfurt to Stuttgart is ONLY a little above 1hour. If you plan booking Lufthansa or Ethiopian (ones I am sure of) you can even book the train from Frankfurt to any bahnhof in Germany together with your flight tickets for a little added token usually not up to 20 euros(booking from airline sites though or through their agents in the Nigeria).

why didn't you use wakanow.com, they offer you the chance to pay in Naira. I paid directly to their account and I've been confirmed already on Turkish Airlines. I think others should try booking tru this medium

I had similar experience withdrawing with my Mastercard here and was billed 250 to 1 euro. When I wrote to Firstbank, their reply was - the exchange rate is determined by Mastercard and not Firstbank. If you see as I vex.

For the guy wey wan enter Royal Air Morocco, enter at your own peril. If time still dey (say two weeks before you travel ) try etihad, Emirates etc.

ogagaejay:
Guys etihad is not what it may seem. I just bought a ticket for 574USD and I was happy thinking I have purchased a cheap ticket. On receiving the ticket I realized I have been charged 237naira to a USD which I had assumed won't be up to 200 per USD. I used a master card though. Union Bank Mastercard so I cant really tell who is charging me this high whether union bank or etihad airline . I am not sure union bank charge up to 200naira per USD.

How do you feel when you greet someone and the person rather than answer back, attacks the greetings. Next up is how old are you. Simply you mean you can't attend to ordinary greetings from someone younger. That speaks volumes.
