jeffery23:Check Hood College http://www.hood.edu/MBA/. No GRE or GMAT required but you'll have to write TOEFL. |
Lovefreak:You can check out the IT program at Hood College- http://www.hood.edu/infotech/ |
adup:I have an Infinix Note 2 and while it works, its not exactly compatible with > 2G network frequencies here. This results in calls dropping, incoming calls going directly to voicemail, consistently unclear calls (at home, on the road, everywhere), data is forever on EDGE when my network already offers 4G, etc. I even changed network carriers thinking that was the problem but it didn't resolve it. That's been my experience. You can check this site for more specific information- http://willmyphonework.net/. |
jokunle:I'm sure you'll get the info you need in these threads- https://www.nairaland.com/2851626/general-german-business-tourist-visas and https://www.nairaland.com/3052025/general-german-visa-enquiries-part. |
abmendozer:You can check Hood College http://www.hood.edu/CS/. |
Llexnet:Hood College offers a masters program in Information Technology with an option to specialize in Cybersecurity by means of the electives you take. http://hood.edu/infotech/. Let me know if you have additional questions. |
I have had a number of people make comments when they hear me talk. They say stuff like "you speak very well", "your english is good, where are you from?". I understand where those questions are coming from now. |
LagosismyHome:From what I have seen so far, the Career Centre organizes a job fair every term. Several companies were around for the last one in Spring- mostly local (headquartered in Frederick) or regional as well as a number of government agencies (law enforcement and military inclusive)- this is understandable as we are in DMV region. I don't have data on the success rates from the fairs though. I might have to make further enquiries on this. |
I was inspired by warriboy21's post about his school (Valparaiso University). It was actually one of my options when initially evaluating schools and programs. This is not a generalization, it is my opinion based on my own background/profile/experiences... So my school is Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. Don't let the "college" confuse you into thinking its a 2 year college or just a baccalaureate awarding institution. Hood College is a doctoral degree granting school. Some of the things I looked at while evaluating schools were -Relevance of curriculum with industry trends and advances -Hands-on, experiential learning -Small class sizes allowing better interaction with faculty -A culturally diverse student body -Affordable tuition (very, very key) -Location and proximity to an economic powerhouse (for internships and jobs) I have also come to realize that we all can not attend the Ivy Leagues, Public Ivies or Nationally ranked universities. However, that does not mean the quality of education is less at a small private university like Hood College. Neither does it mean the prospect of a brighter future at completion of one's program is bleak. Like one of my professors told me recently, "I (the student) am ultimately responsible for what I make of my graduate education experience". The faculty, school, internships and everything else are just pieces you put together to form your desired output. Hood College has been around since 1893 and has produced thousands of alumna who have gone ahead to do very well in their various endeavors. Again, you may query LinkedIn to ascertain this. Every program has the right compliment of top-tier faculty and world-class facilities to give you a worthwhile experience. And Nigerian students generally have a good reputation here. There are just a handful of us here currently but we are highly regarded due to our academic integrity and work ethics. So to respond to some of the most popular FAQs here as it applies to Hood College, find below: Funding There are opportunities but these are limited and not guaranteed. The options include admin Graduate Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Lab assistants, Athletic/Sports GAs(you need some form of licensing to get these). Its easier to get an assistantship after you've spent at least a semester as you would have established relationships with the people that matter and your academic abilities can be better adjudged then. Apart from assistantships, you might be able to secure a job working with dining services or facilities on a hourly pay. Standardized tests GRE/GMAT aren't required for admission by the school but the general consensus here (Nairaland) is that you take the one applicable to your school/program. TOEFL/IELTS is required. Minimum GPA for admission Minimum GPA is 2.75 and you need to get your transcript evaluated (WES, ECE, etc.). However, students with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.7 may be considered for possible provisional admission so this might be a way for some people to achieve their dreams. Tuition At $475 per credit hour, the average total tuition for a masters program (30 credit hours after prerequisites) comes in at < $15,000. Yes, you read that correctly. But tuition is just one part of your expenses. Please consider rent, textbooks and living expenses as these add up to form a substantial part of your overall costs. Stanley08:Don't have that info. I'll suggest you visit the individual admission pages. |
Stanley08:Stevenson University, UMBC, Hood College, Towson Universiy |
urbanrave:To have an idea of the processing times for your immigrant visa, check the US DOS monthly visa bulletin- https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/law-and-policy/bulletin/2016/visa-bulletin-for-june-2016.html |
success2000:Check Frostburg State, Hood College, Fitchburg State. |
dicapino:Stuff you'll normally step out to get from a kiosk in front of your house or one corner shop. Think toiletries, hair cream, stationery, glue, nail clipper, stapler, polish & brush(es), suede polish, converter plugs so you can connect your devices to ac power, extra batteries (if you use them for any gadgets), etc. Its when you need many of these "insignificant' things that you'll remember the ease of getting them in Nigeria. |
MrMann1:It largely depends on your school and it will be stated in your admission letter/package. |
Eddard007:If you're in Lagos, you can try LUTH. There's this lady- Aunty Shalewa in the community health unit. She's there from around 10am daily. She'll sort you out with the injections, hook you up with a doctor to attest to your forms and let you know when to go to Ports health clinic to get your Yellow Fever card (the entire process might take between 2 - 3 weeks). Depending on the specific immunizations, your total cost might fall within the N20k - N35k range. |
MsNas:Thank you for sharing MsNas, I would like to know how to do the full time work, full time academics thingy while on an F1 visa. I have an IT (software) background so I actually have marketable skills. I see the job listings with many positions I am qualified for but I don't know how to proceed because of school and USCIS regulations. Care to offer some tips? |
amanze15:Thank you for the response. I am just eager to finish ASAP to minimise rent and other personal expenses. |
slimmy05:Really? So why do the schools make it look like one can take only 9 credits. I'd like to take as much as I can handle; also in the summer term so I can graduate early. |
slimmy05:Graduate. |
Hello everyone, Please, I have a couple of questions and I would appreciate feedback: 1. How easy is it enrolling for 12 credit hours or more per semester? 2. Is there anyone here attending Frostburg State University, Maryland? Thank you in advance. |
Hello, I greet everyone o! Please is anyone here attending FROSTBURG STATE UNIVERSITY in Maryland? Thank you. |
MrRoYCe: Also had/have the same problem o....I applied May...I then mailed Mrs. Stephanie Appleby(International Admissions Specialist) and she said I should resend my credential which I've done...that they school get back to me ending this month....Her mail is sappleby@troy.eduThanks. Will send her an email asap. |
zeezahbee: keep trying but call this number and also send them an emailThanks Zee, I called that number & the lady I spoke with said she doesn't have access to international applicant information. I've also copied the ask@ address in all my mails. I won't relent sha. Will keep up the mails & call. |
Hi people, happy weekend. Anyone here ever get admitted by TROY uni? I've applied since July & sent the required documents but no feedback since then. Sent several mails to international admissions office but they are yet to respond. I've tried to call the office on +13346703335 but they don't answer. Is this their modus operandi? What can I do at this point? Cheers! |
Abeg, anybody for this house dey TROY uni? I'd like some info about the school from a Nigerian's perspective. Basically, how's the experience? |
azeezbaba: I filled a Student Assistantship form which I have since submitted. Deadline for funding application is Mid SeptemberThat's interesting. Please share the link to the form with me & who did you send it to after completing it. My expectation (based on the info on the graduate school page) was that every prospective student was considered for assistantships automatically. Didn't know I could also apply directly. Thanks. |
teddyrain: Not in my case though. My school sent me deferred i20 both for summer and fall and they all had same sevis number. And they are about to send me a new one for spring with same number. This will be the 5th time I will be getting their i20 if they send for spring. No i don't have I20 yet. Didn't bother sending financial docs since I knew I wouldn't make it in time for visa interview. Will pay SEVIS fee and get I20 for Spring 2015 by God's grace. |
aanowai: Azeez baba, I also have the same situation as u, though the reason I deferred my admission to Spring 2015 was because I needed more time to prepare. So January 2015 would be just fine for me but I wan ask oo.. Do u have ur I20 for Spring 2015 admission with u now? I'm asking so that I know when to expect mine (Sep or Oct).Very interesting as I was also admitted for fall 2014 but deferred till spring 2015 because my admission letter came very late due to delays in WES evaluation. How does one get funding from them though? |
bigfrancis21: @bold...you need to back up your self-sponsorship with something very convincing and tangible that you are doing, ie a well-paying job that you have that pays you very well, or a fluorishing business that you are doing that is providing you with such funds. Expect to furnish the VO with job payslips or personal/business account(s) that reflect considerable flow of money. Schooling in US can be expensive and the VO expects that you back up your claim with evidence of your source of income.Thanks. I'll get necessary documents from my office as well as account statements & pay slips. Any info about the schools- TROY uni, Shippensburg uni & NCAT state uni? |
Hi people. Thanks for all the posts, being following quietly and I have gained a lot. I have a few questions ![]() -Any Nigerians in TROY uni, Shippensburg uni & NCAT? How are these schools? -Is there any downside to self-sponsoring as far as visa interview is concerned? Thanks. |
Was there October last year. If you wanna enjoy the safari, i'll advise you go during the dry season when the vegetation isnt in full bloom. When i went, all i saw were the baboons, a couple of waterbuck, wiled guineafowls and warthogs. They have accommodation, i can't remember exactly how much but i know it wasnt more than N10, 000 a nite. I didnt spend the nite there, went back to my friend's place in Bauchi. Hope this helps. |

the Indians and Chinese have taught me to take my time, some of those guys have to take intensive english program first, I know a guy taking 15 credits hours 6 of which wouldn't count to his GPA.
