Business / Re: Man Returns N30,000 Wrongly Dispensed To Him By Diamond Bank ATM by dancewith: 11:31am On Feb 09, 2018
In a similar occurrence about a Nigerian that is based outside of the country. Michael Jonathan Asemota based in Qatar and sometimes in 2017 returned the sum of QR1,502,000 ($441,127.99), about N150 million wrongfully deposited into his account in Qatar.

Michael Asemota, who was a native of Edo state had opened an account with a cheque of QR150, 200 with an undisclosed commercial bank where he is the sole signatory of the account.

According to him, an alert came on his phone later that evening and that QR1,502,000 had been credited into his account by mistake instead of QR150,200. He believed since the money did not belong to him, he decided to return it to the bank.

Michael Asemota, for his goodwill, was recognised by not only the Qatari government, but also the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was even recommended for a political position by the governor of Edo state.

If this fellow had attempted to hold onto this money, he would enter into a lot of trouble. In this case, it was expedient to return the money than attempt to spend it

Just imagine for s second how this man would have been killed. Imagine if there is a video evidence and how gory it would be for a man to be cut in various parts of his body, including and not limited to, by his throat, stomach and face. This is how it happens when these marauders "butcher" someone . They do this while you are alive and ensure you witness your own throat gradually being sliced open

These are two different statements. There's a difference when u forgot sth and deliberately left sth. So this is wrong

You are very correct. You can deliberately leave your phone in the house, car, church etc and can actually forget it in those places as well

The context is the key. You can't say you left your phone at home as an excuse to a query from your boss who demands answer why you couldn't be reached on time.

Politics / Re: Senate Vs Magu: Court Judgement Has No Effect - Sagay, Keyamo React by dancewith: 12:19pm On Feb 02, 2018
So why bother asking sentate to confirm anyone when we know this is mere ceremony?

This precedent is dangerous in that future president can rightly ignore the Senate in confirming required appointments and use this

If the president actually wanted this man confirmed, why did it allow an agency under its control to forward such an adverse report against its appointee? Were the Senate expected to ignore that?? If they had done the future would have hindsighted this as a sign of collusion

Claiming the Senate has pecunial interest in not confirming this appointee is like using sentiments and blackmail in trying to get approval from a shoddy work done. If this man drops dead today would the executive be unable to continue its anti corruption fight?

We must not only do the right things but be seen to do so by all. This farcical situation of defending the indefensible must stop

Politics / Re: Court Affirms Senate's Power To Reject Magu by dancewith: 5:56am On Feb 02, 2018
It is stunning that we have people on here defending the propagation of illegality by a govt. The EFCC acts, which is the blood of the commission, states that a president should nominate the commission's chairman, SUBJECT, to confirmation by the Senate! Why was this caveat "subject to" inserted here?

Saying a rejected candidate by the Senate should continue functioning is akin to saying a minister that is not confirmed by the Senate should continue acting as a minister! In which context, situation, society and culture is this acceptable or even remotely right?

Some argue the senate's action is to protect their corruption investigation. Is EFCC the only corruption fighting institution the executive has to pursue corrupt people? Also, if Magu should drop dead today, would it not be the same executive that would nominate another strong willed and minded anti corruption czar to prosecute corrupt people, including members of the Senate, if need be? If need be, won't the executive be able to nominate someone else not amenable to the dictates of the Senate if the fear is that the senate wants their puppet as EFCC chairman?

I find it extremely troubling that a simple procedure like "subject to confirmation" rules are so grossly abused in Nigeria. It's like the executive saying the powers of confirmation vested in the Senate for certain appointments are meaningless and cherry pick those to obey and those to ignore.

The question then is: If they feel there is no need for senate confirmation, why was this caveat, subject to confirmation, stated in the act?

We should be mindful of setting a precedent which successive governments can follow. When this happens no one must complain. After what is sauce for the geese....

Politics / Re: Letter Of Appreciation To Aisha Buhari – By Dele Momodu by dancewith: 3:42pm On Jan 21, 2018
This letter is full of sycophantic drama by proxy

Clearly Dele's position is on the premise of being sidelined by the FG of those that won the presidency the election. One wonders if this is the patriotic zeal he found lacking in Mr President. He found legacy in Mrs Aisha's dismay that party leaders were sidelined for strange faces. It would look to me that this is the crux of Mr Momodu's grouse, proxically representing the dismay of people that felt it was their right to enjoy the spoils of their loot/war

In as much as Mr President has performed lowly and has shown serious sectional bias and outright disregard for some areas of the country, one point I must commend him for is his total disregard for God fatherim.

As regards the so called people that helped enthrone him, he has shown enough favor by looking the other way in the midst of their economic and financial crimes against the country. As if this wasn't enough, they want more

Given this letter is claiming new appointments are imminent, it is sad he concluded by claiming Mr President has awakened from slumber for the mere fact those party faithfuls are potential beneficiaries

This is sheer advocation of avarice, greed, corruption and totally unbecoming of how a country should seek to move forward, and very disappointing coming from someone like Dele who claims so much morality

Travel / Re: Nigerian Woman Gives Birth On A Plane En Route New York - Pictures by dancewith: 4:54pm On Jan 18, 2018
The article mentioned Greenland which is a Danish territory. As Denmark doesn't award birthright citizenship the child cannot be Danish by being born over Danish airspace

Second, since the Aircraft is registered in France, and France doesn't award birthright citizenship, similar scenario to that of Denmark applies

In such a case, the child becomes Nigerian only. However the article didn't specify the final airspace when the delivery happened. This is important because most of north American countries practice citizenship by birth. So if at the time of delivery the airplane was in another territory outside Greenland, it would most likely be one of the Caribbean countries in which case that country's citizenship would pass on to the newborn

Politics / Re: We Support Buhari's Plan To Subsidize Fuel - APC by dancewith: 12:57pm On Jan 08, 2018
I think the bigger issue is where the money is coming from to fund the subsidy. Since Subsidy was not budgeted for in the 2017 and 2018 budgets, where has the government been paying the subsidy and where does it plan to continue doing so from?

This is a monumental fraud bigger than what we realize. It becomes unconstitutional and a serious breach of the constitution for the government to appropriate funds for a project not budgeted for

In saner society this becomes not only a first class impeachment act, but grave abuse of office subject to prosecution and lengthy custodian sentence

drered:

Don't misinform people with your 'confident ignorance'. That is a first line anti-retroviral used in the management of HIV. It is also amongst other anti-retrovirals used as post exposure prophylaxis. It's sole indication isn't for PEP and atripla doesn't cost 3k dollars. Don't just go online and lift info if you're not an authority. U can get EFV/TDF/3TC for as low as 7-15k in pharmacies that stock them.

I like this answer. PEP is something our sexually active people should understand as an option mostly because research has shown 87% effectiveness at preventing or aborting a new infection if started within 72hrs and taken without breaks for 28days. Infact some research shows close to 100% effectiveness

Just imagine how many cases of new infections this can prevent in Nigeria! The fight to end the HIV scourge should include PreP and PEP. They are both useful and effective tools in this battle

Back to the topic, it would appear that the owner of this medication is HIV positive. However various research has shown that a HIV patient who is taking medication and has achieved non detectable status (most people on medication achieve this within 4 months of starting medication) has virtually no chance of transmitting the virus

Think this through. If this person has been on this medication and has achieved non detectable status, which is extremely likely, the girlfriend is at less risk of infection than you, yes I mean you, sleeping with someone who doesn't even know his/her HIV status and hence not on medication.

Infact he has less than 0.001% chance of transmitting the virus at a non detectable stage

Hope this has been helpful

Meanwhile, the EFCC has arrested 13 suspected internet fraudsters for conspiracy, possession of fraudulent documents and obtaining money under false pretence.

The suspects are- Badejo Tobi; Abiola Dimeji; Anthony Godwin; Osoba Adeboye; Adeleken Abiodun and Awokoya Oriyomi Yusuf.

Others are – Oyatayo Ismail; Coffie Meschark; Sylvester Amaddin; Olawale Farouk; Adeniran Tolani; Taiwo Michael and OyekanmiAyodeji.

According to the Commission, the suspects were arrested on Saturday, December 16, 2006 in some parts of Lagos and Ogun States, following intelligence report received by the Commission about their activities.

The EFCC said: “The suspects allegedly confessed to be involved in phishing, love scam, forgery, spoofing and business email compromise, among other offences.

“Phishing is an attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details (and money), often for malicious reasons, by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

“Spoofing, on the other hand, is a type of scam where an intruder attempts to gain unauthorized access to a user’s system or information by pretending to be the user.

“Some of the suspects, who live flamboyantly without any known sources of income, were said to have bought houses and exotic cars from the proceeds of their criminal activities.

“They were allegedly found to be in possession of forged contract papers of multinational oil and gas companies, banks’ instruments and forged data page of international passports of foreign nationals, among other documents.

“Other items recovered from the suspects included laptops, flash drives, modems, one Range Rover SUV, one Toyota Highlander, Two Toyota Corolla and one Toyota Camry.
The suspects will soon be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

For me this is the main news here. When would our youths focus their energy positively? This culture of get rich quick or die trying is leading the nation to infamy

It is becoming fashionable to worship money so much so that kids in the university now drives flashy cars and stay in expensive hotels, their pockets lined with stupendous wealth and women, with no one concerned

This conduct would completely erode whatever is left of our rabid value system as children grow to see this as the new acceptable way to wealth. Given our poor employment availability, this nation would soon create a youth and adult system of fraudsters if care is not taken

As regards the WHT recovery, I wonder when it has become a political gain for a government when mundane works of a government agency is praised as achievement. It is the work of FIRS and LIRS to recover tax and they do this daily, year round. Why is this one being praised as a political score? One would suppose a petition from FIRS/LIRS was sent to EFCC to assist in this recovery, using their law enforcement tools and unpaid Tax duly recovered. This is routine and we should please pressure the government into providing basic necessities for which they were elected rather than praise sing imaginary achievements which would make them more docile
Politics / Re: Fuel Scarcity: FG Not Contemplating Hike In Petrol Pump Price - SGF Says by dancewith: 5:31am On Dec 24, 2017
This is so painful. We were told that once we pay almost double the price GEJ left the issue of scarcity would be over. Nigerians tightened their belts and paid, yet the untold suffering they are going through now in search of petrol is unimaginable

So many fuel stations now sell a litre of fuel for N240 and above yet many Federal Government Agencies tasked with ensuring price uniformity at N145/Litre are looking the other way

There is no explanation other than a tacit dry run to an increment. Whispers has long been coming from this govt that the pricing model is faulty and we need to pay about N250/litre.

This government clearly has no regard for the truth. They lie about almost everything you can think of and never cares if in future those lies are exposed. Infact they know they won't lose any support for whatever they do. Those men and women that blasted the previous government daily have all gone quiet. Some for fear of the vengeful government we have now, some for tribalistic reasons.

I was informed a lot are keeping quiet because they know anyone talking about this government negatively would receive the full attention of the security services for real or fabricated allegations, and disgraced accordingly. I would say this is what we deserved as a nation as they felt the need in the past to lambaste and frustrate a humble and humane leader and eventually succeed in creating a monster whom they are now scared to complain about. The grass is not always greener at the other side

This reminds me of the issue of the Chibok girls. It's more of the more you look the less you see. We were told by this same government that hundreds of the girls were rescued. A lot of us asked for these girls to be independently interviewed by reporters and foreign media. The government said no, that they were undergoing rehabilitation. This position was fraudulently and vigorously defended. This is almost a year now and no one has heard who these rescued girls are, where they are, what experiences they underwent etc. The government knew with time no one would bother and everyone would move to the next item of suffering. Who is afraid of allowing the "rescued girls" be independently interviewed? Afterall a sitting president fell partly as a result of this!

When people alleged the Chibok girls issue was a scam, various people screamed abuses and obscenities at them. Now who in his right senses would continue to defend that this was indeed not fabricated? The same would occur with this fuel scarcity and a more than likely looming fuel price increase. The government doesn't care how bad they look. They don't care what we think. They know they can say one thing today and another thing happens tomorrow and heaven won't fall. Infact their supporters would double and troupe out to welcome them when they visit. We truly deserve what we have

Those prominent enough to complain, won't complain for fear of persecution. Everyone is minding their businesses regardless of the level of provocation. No SNG, NLC, Soyinka, Tinubu, etc has uttered a word to pressure the government into positive change. We are on our own

It would have been appropriate to say at this point: We were warned. But that would be too equivocal as the actions of the majority that put this government in place is badly affecting us all. Care must be taken to ensure the will of the masses prevail come 2019 as everything, including freedom of speech, electoral integrity seems to have gone with the previous government

These kinds of story are prevalent in our folklores. However they are unlikely to be true. One, you would find it hard, real hard, to meet someone that says "Yeah, I am the person that has experienced this", or I know someone that has experienced this. The stories are usually in fourth and fifth person's account and peddled around with no visible means of identifying the real characters in the story

In the case of this story, you would find there may be a logical explanation of it. The story in itself may be fictitious. I would like another journalist or blogger to walk us back through these characters and confirm they spoke with them again and reconfirm these accounts. It is unlikely this can be reconfirmed by another writer.

Finally, it is my strong belief that when we die, we enter a state of nothingness...Just like the day before our births....awaiting judgement. Tales of ghosts and other forms of supernaturals are at best, just that, tales

I would go with the JAMB registrar on this. What qualifies a candidate is 5 credits in O'level not UMTE which, as he put it, is simply a ranking examination.

He argued that several candidates, with 5 credits, are disqualified by the high cut off mark, whereas many candidates scoring above the cut off marks may not even have the 5 credits, hence a lot of University places are left unfilled year after year

Countries like the UK and Australia don't have examinations other than A'levels for admission into tertiary institutions

I strongly support JAMB on this

Ok. But what's HIV gestation period it begins to show up?

This is a good question. Otherwise called the "Window period" between when an individual is infected and starts testing positive to routine screening, either by blood or other fluids...

The window period varies depending on the type of test done. Some advanced tests are now able to confirm an infection in as little as 3 days after infections.

However the most common testing techniques done in many laboratories across Nigeria, usually those that test for HIV antibodies in blood products would normally be able to show a positive results within three weeks of infection. Most experts agree that an antibody test would normally not change if tested a month (four weeks) following an exposure

Previously the window period was assumed to be conclusive at 6 months. Newer testing kits with advanced sensitivity has drastically reduced this...while not WHO recognized, I am yet to see a HIV result change if tested with Trinity Unigold kit after three weeks of exposure

HIV isn't the death sentence it once was. There are numerous other more life threatening illnesses like cancer and diabetes

Nothing, however, should be taken away from the evil the untreated HIV can wreck on the human body. Safe sex practices and other effective preventive measures should always be adopted.

Discussions as this is very helpful to bring to the table information and awareness on this deadly infection. We must know a HIV positive individual can live a healthy and full life with early detection and adherence to medication.

What kills more is stigmatization of HIV positive people. We must all come together to end this. They are humans like any one of us and haven't necessarily lead a more immoral lifestyle. Even if they had, who are we to judge? #saynotostigmatization.

Finally sexually active people must Google and research PEP and PREP. This has been shown to reduce HIV infections and hence prevalence.
