Ops E: I was at US Embassy last Thursday with my wife (planning for US delivery, her EDD is July 20th)and were granted visa, though duration will only be confirmed tomorrow when we pick up our passports. We were asked about our kids ages and schools and if we're expecting any baby next year, we answered No, since we are actually expecting this year and not next year, however we did not give further detail, my concern is I hope this will not be mis-interpreted to mean lie later in the future. Can someone with similar experience help. This is quite tricky. My cousin had a baby here and during renewal the visa officer started calculating the child's birth date with the time they were issued the visa. It so happened that through the calculation, the officer realized that wife was pregnant at the time they came for the interview. Needless to say the outcome. I will only advice you have your bills paid and pray the visa officer is not an overzealous one. An immigration lawyer told me the rule has nothing against anyone having a baby in the US provided the bills were paid. However the VO can use deception to refuse a renewal if they realize you lied about your pregnancy during the visa interview. That is why they ask if you are pregnant or expecting a baby. Good luck |
ghm: Thanks for your kindness and generousity with information as regards Immigration to US.Sorry to hear about this. They obviously made the decision to refuse based on your wife's pregnancy. In some cases they would refuse and bluntly tell you to reapply after the delivery. This has happened a few times that I know of. This then means that was the main reason for the refusal. On the issue of granting yours and refusing your spouse, that also is at the discretion of the Visa officer. Some will do that, others will simply refuse both. It will not do you any good reapplying immediately as this may be misconstrued to mean desperation. Why don't you apply for a Canadian visa? It seems to me you and your wife easily qualify for the visa and Canada does not wish to interview anybody. The last time I checked you only need to DHL your documents to them and in a fortnight the visa is sent back to you through DHL as well. I am also aware your child will get Canadian citizenship once born there. That passport is as good, if not better, than a US passport. Also, Canadian birth cost is in the region of $4,000 whereas you can pay as much as $15,000 here. Good luck |
The CBN continues to perform its corporate social responsibility functions by promoting knowledge through seminars, workshops, etc, which were of strategic national interest as well as providing financial assistance to organisations/activities. These include: • The Nigerian Economic Society (NES); • The Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA; • Christ the Good Shepherd Academy of Science Programme on “Train Indigent Children and Dropouts”; • Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) hosting of the African Regional Meeting of the International Federation of Journalists; • Women in Banking, Finance and Investment in Nigeria, hosting of its 2007 National Conference; • The Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria Annual Assembly; • The Clement Isong Foundation; and • The Niger Delta University Endowment Fund. See more here ===> http://www.cenbank.org/CBNCommunity/Community.asp Additionally the CBN has provided hundreds of millions of naira in grants to support its Capacity Building Programmes as follows: • Nigerian Universities Capacity Building Programmes • Other Capacity Building Programmes • Collaborative research with agencies • Development Finance agencies • National Assembly • Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) • Investment and Securities Tribunal (IST) • Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC) • Annual Seminar for Finance Correspondents and Business Editors • Professional Institutions Why then can the said N100million donation to Kano be wrong if donations to the above programs are fine and legal. I think common sense trumps legalese here. I find your argument irresponsible at best. If you have any intelligence at all, you must know that these cases are different. CBN is not legally permitted to be making charitable donations. It is not their statutory function. There are other agencies of government that is designed to do this. Even funding of private organisations as they have been doing is wrong and illegal. the Textile loan intervention ought to be handled by the Federal Ministry of Finance or disbursed to the commercial banks. The same with the aviation intervention funds. Sanusi is commercializing CBN and you must understand (that is if you are smart enough to do so) that public bodies are not best placed to make donations. CSR is usually for private and commercial bodies. The Govt can make donations through executive pronouncements but certainly not through a body like a country's central bank. Justifying this shows how shallow we are. This is the same reason we had to get justice on the Ibori case outside the shores of Nigeria. People like you would have carried placards justifying why Ibori is not a thief. |
Methinks they need to pay up! |
islamrules:Which south africa has laws? It is the same SA that is the crime capital of the world. Where a rape incident happens in every 10 minutes Spare us this useless rhetoric. I am sure it is backward people like you that will gladly be happy when SA immigration dehumanizes and insults your mother as long as you are stamped in. As for fake documents, SA immigration is as corrupt as their Nigerian counterpart. The issue here is not so much as fake documents but the motive. Since you are so dumb to comprehend what is going on, I suggest you approach a more intelligent Nigerian who can break it down for you, gently |
Nigeria should handle this with pro-activeness. There should be no time wasted in ordering all Nigerians in SA to return to Nigeria and deporting key south african people in Nigeria. They need to feel the brunt more. Once we can find out those in key appointments here and use some guise to deport them, then SA can do whatever they wish, knowing we are more than capable to reciprocate in worse measures. Deporting travellers is not going far enough. When you deport important personalities in key establishments then the message will be stronger. It is immaterial if they retaliate, we have very little to lose anyway. This is the best opportunity to assert our sovereignty to other countries and the right of Nigerians to move freely without let or hindrance |
For the first time, I can say I am proud of the Nigerian government. What is the essence of peace without justice? To me, this is not going far enough. Can't they find some dumb reason to deport more higher ranking South Africans from the Nigerian Business Communities? |
This is utterly despicable from the South Africans. Even if the yellow fever cards are fakes, it must be clear the sheer volume means the travelers got the cards in good faith and possibly without knowledge they were fakes. Can they treat Americans this way? or the Brits? That will be a No. They did this because they believe they can do just about anything to Nigerians and nothing will happen. It goes without saying that if the govt can sweep this under the table, Nigerians must rise up to defend their brothers honor. We must by-cot all South African businesses and contacts starting now. Economic power often is the most effective power. can all MTN users switch off in Nigeria? Can all user of DSTV call for account closures and can all customers of Stanbic Bank close their accounts If we can do this, then the whole world, not just SA, would start taking us seriously. This is why I like Chavez. You cannot do this to Venezuelans and get away with it. Why can't our government find a dumb reason to deport all the high ranking officials in MTN, Stanbic, Shoprite and DSTV that are South Africans? Thats the only way we can be taken seriously |
nowayone:You are right. It is entirely at the discretion of the visa officer to issue the visa to someone that had an anchor baby with a visitor's visa. Although having a baby in the US is not a crime under the US immigration laws, the VO can consider that the applicant didn't mention she was using the visa for medical purposes during the interview. Usually they consider the time lag from visa issuance to when the child was delivered. if you got the visa in January and had the baby next year July, this can be seen to mean you were not pregnant at the time the visa was issued so the intent was not deceptional. But if they issue you with a visa in January and you had a baby with it the same year, say July, then they can use the deception rule against you. Often those that have problem are those with conditional visa (annotation). Holders of full validity visa of 2years backed with payment receipts often get their visa re issued. |
kings144:These stuff happen. I have heard them pretty often. I can assure you there is a reason and it must be connected to your previous travels. It is either you i-94 card was not submitted by the airline to US immigrations or someone recorded on overstay on your departure date. Something happened and you need to find out. They do not refuse a renewal without a good reason |
nowayone:Sorry for the late response. the fact is that once you are going for a renewal, they must ask if you have any children. If you answer yes, the next question would be where they were born. This is routine questions. They are well aware Nigerian with previous visa issuance usually use the visa for medical tourism. Once you state they were born in the US, they must demand to see the bills and payments. If you chose to lie, they can easily find out about the birth by a simple computer enquiry. I will suggest you tell the truth but it is likely they will refuse you on first attempt. I say first attempt because a family friend used medicaid for a child's birth in 2000, went for renewal in 2001 and was refused. Two subsequent applications were turned down but they finally got a new visa in 2008. I do not know if there is a time ban but eventually you will get the visa if you keep applying. It is entirely possible the visa officer may not question you about the birth. I have heard stories of people that had kids here but got their visa renewed without the visa officer discovering about the birth. This is rare but you could get lucky |
nowayone:They have records of all US citizens and their parents. Recall you had to submit a government issued ID of both parents during the US passport application for your baby. This is recorded by the department of state which oversees visa application. Once you are going for a renewal, they will ask ask if you have had a baby before and if your answer yes, they will ask where the child'ren' was/were born. This is a standard and routine question for renewals. If you chose to lie, then you may become permanently ineligible for a tourist visa, although your baby can petition for an immigrant visa for you in the future. If you tell the truth, they will demand for the medical payment receipts. so as you can see, you have worked yourself into a tight situation by dodging this payment. Good luck in your renewal and we would be happy to read how it worked out in the end |
SimonAndal:Ha, you mean you haven't heard bestial people saying they couldn't control the urge? This is the same thing said by phedo, philes. That they have this "natural' attraction to kids! Compare this to a man wedding a man, kissing him all over in public, proclaiming they were born that way. Honestly, could there be any difference amongst the three cases? |
SimonAndal:Oh yeah, and while we are at it please learn that it is not all food or poison that is acceptable. Bestiality for instance, which refers to humans sleeping with animals, is one unacceptable food or poison. People like you once claimed bestial folks were born that way. That has been disproved by recent studies. Peod.o.philes also claimed they were born that way. That has been shown to be bullocks. Gay people can't wait to proclaim their natural and God-given orientation. In my opinion, these are all forms of deviant behaviors born out of improper upbringing and associations. |
This is a product of nurture and not nature. When young females keep bad company this is the result. Bestiality was once proclaimed as a product of nature. It is interesting various scientists are now disputing this. Ask yourself, if bestiality is NOT a product or nature, why would homosexuality be any different. Even pedophiles have claimed they were born that way! You can argue it whichever way you like, but the word unnatural connotes something wrong. And just because some people are thrilled doing something unnatural does not make it any less evil |
having no place to stay is not a flimsy excuse IF she was staying 1 month or more, and only had £2K (in France, you need at least €100 per day for the duration of your stay) This was not the case. The first post clearly said one week stay. if the hotel was paid for, there would be NO PROBLEMS, and if she had changed her plans, then they have all the rights to check her new arrangements because the reason she got the visa has been compromised. the visa was issued because she had a hotel booking This has to be factually incorrect. I cannot believe visa will be issued based on hotel booking. It has to be how the visa officer perceive the applicant's economic and social circumstances. They must know if you have 2,000 pounds and a funded credit card, you can easily make hotel arrangement while in the UK. I go to Toronto often and I have never had to make prior hotel arrangement. From the airport, a taxi takes me to one. Also if the visa officer had verified she is a banker, why didn't the agent simply call the UK embassy in Lagos instead of trying to email her bank? In my opinion, this was too harsh and a rush to profile/embarrass her simply on account of her citizenship. |
MRbrownJAY:I dunno. But I have travelled variously to the UK and at the point of entry stated a different place from where I originally planned to stay. In life, we all know that plans change. She is well within her rights to have a new accommodation plan as long as she can afford it. What the agents needed to know was she qualified for the visa on her financial and economic circumstances not on where she planned to stay in the UK. In my first trip in 2000, I planned to stay with a friend but later got to find out he was married and had to use a different friend. According to what I was told, She gave them her office number but they chose to use the bank's website to email the bank, rather than make the call. Strangely one would have assumed the embassy in Lagos should have verified her place of employment before the visa was issued and not the border agent. Now her office is saying they didn't get any mail from them. It seems such a flimsy reason to deport someone who paid for and was issued a visa and spent money to travel to a foreign country. |
justwise:This is assuming the reservation was cancelled. She only had his word for this. Also, with 2,000 pounds and her credit card, she can easily make alternative accommodation arrangements. The border agent ought to know this. There are hundreds of thousands of B&Bs in central London for her to easily get a decent place to stay. If she hadn't much money with her, it may have been different. It looks to me as the agents couldn't wait to deny her entry as soon as they had anything they can point to. This does not seem right somehow |
MRbrownJAY:She actually had intention of staying in a hotel. She had nobody in the UK so she got to stay in a hotel anyway. it wasn't her first time abroad but her first in Europe |
@Justwise She did not cancel the reservation but when she later called the hotel to verify after her removal, the hotel did inform her the reservation had been cancelled but could not tell her when or by whom. Don't forget most hotel reservations cancels automatically if date of arrival passes and it is not paid. So she can't really be sure if the border agent was correct or not. She stated she had no relatives in the UK which is correct. @Ade She indeed was served some removal papers. One states her visa was being cancelled as she used deception in getting it. Another paper stated she was being removed as they could not determine if she qualified to be admitted into the UK. Strangely they also claimed they contacted her bank via email for confirmation of her employment status but did not get a response. This has been contradicted by her bank which confirmed they never received such an enquiry till date. |
Hi All, A family freind was denied entry into the UK last week. She was issued with a six months validity visa and travelled visa KLM to Heathrow terminal 4. The border agent proceeded to contact the hotel she booked and claimed the hotel reservation has been cancelled. Although she had 2,000 pounds (cash) with her and her credit card (including her staff ID: she is a mdille level employee in one of Nigeria's new generation banks), the agent still cancelled her visa and she was removed back to Nigeria. She is quite upset, considering she is not even aware the reservation is cancelled as claimed. She also feels she had enough cash to support her one week stay (with or without the hotel reservation as she can pay cash for a cheaper hotel if need be). I daresay she was badly treated, with no benefit of doubt. She had previously travelled to UAE & South Africa and is well into her early forties. What options can she pursue to reverse this cancellationa and denial of entry? |
4. Lastly, the judge kept repeating that the loans have been fully paid back and so no crime has been committed. This has got to be the worst comic fever I have read of a judge. How can he say the loan has been repaid and therefore no crime has been committed? Is he smoking something dangerous? If the loan was indeed paid down, would it not be Nigerian tax payers money that was used to pay off the loans used in financing the self increased allownaces of Bankole and his legislative members, while ordinary Nigerians survive on less than $2 per day. This is not acceptable and in the end they have to finance this lifestyle by hiking fuel prices. The common man continues to bear the brunt. This judge was bought off. Simple and it is time there is a way to start jailing those judges. It happened with Igbenedion and it will continue to happen if something drastic is not done |
I think you need to write officially to the Spanish authourities. Use a lawyer. inform them of the error and invite them to investigate it thoroughly. copy the relevant Nigerian authourities as well. Give detailed explanation of the possible error |
9ja_I_hail:It looks like you have a problem understanding simple English. please stop posting old and misleading information here |
As of Feb 2011 visas are issued to nationals of the two countries at the port of entry http://www.naijapals.com/modules/naijapals/nigeria/topic,58440.0.html |
I really think you have nothing to worry about. you have a legal right to be in the UK, have a good employment, with no criminal history (I am assuming this), then you should be fine. What they also look out for is your travel history, good job ties to which they know you may not abandon. You passed this in flying colours. Next will be a review of what you gonna do in the states. you staying with people that came with into the US on a visiting visa, married a US citizen and stayed back will hurt your application. Most folks don't know this but its true. safe option is to book for a hotel if you do not know the immigration history of your US host. If you say you want to vacation in the US for summer hols and chose to go to places like Maryland, South Carolina etc with a hotel reservation it is a dead give away you have relatives in the US. A new tourist in the US who has no relatives or friends will almost certainly chose NY or CA. So be prepared for a review of your US visit. Do this and I think you got nothing to worry about Good luck |
Is the FG questioning the credibility of the eminent jurist, Niki Tobi & Co? I would assume there would be no smoke without fire, based on the strong words the panel had for MD Abubakar. It appears highly insensitive for the FG to appoint this man, whether or not he was indicted or recommended for sack (I can't see the difference). If there is any iota of truth in the panel's recommendation (which I believe there is), then the FG has shown gross incompetence in towing this line. Those with siblings, relatives and parents murdered by Boko Haram wil understand the pains they went through and glorifying such murders with this appointment only serves to mire us as a nation deeper into abyss. It is now left for the new IG to prove everybody wrong, renounce his ways and give this country the peace it deserves. We all know Boko Haram has highly placed Nigerians and security agents as members. Even if he is a sympathizer, he can plead with them to show this country mercy. Maybe this is the logic in the government's action with this appointment. It may well be a brilliant masterstroke or a mighty calamity. Like so may have said, only time shall tell |
I honestly don't know why they keep bringing every bit of garbage this guy says to front page. here he is trying to sound apoplectic, claiming Nasir will understand he is on the other side now. Meaning if he was not in office, he would have taken a different view of things. Can this guy honestly make this kind of self serving statement if he was under OBJ's government? Cos they see GEJ as weak, every tom can easily have a go at him and expect to get away with it. I really think this guy is not smart afterall. His economics appear elementary |
This is a bit tricky. I assume the new information concerns an application made prior to the commencement of finger scans but with same or varied name combination and date of birth. Before they are convinced you used deception (which is a serious immigration offence) they must have cross referenced details in the old application with the new one, including picture matching. They have sophisticated software for this and it is hard to believe they made a mistake in this case considering the visa was already issued but later withdrawn when the new facts came to light My gut feeling is that no mistake was made and poster must have lied about a previous visa refusal. In my time I got refused severally but later got issued with several NIV and later an IV. It only requires being honest at all time. No need muddling up facts as this could be the result |
I have noted Omo tier one as a helpful and insightful individual. Paris 10 is also someone of great intellect and I have learnt a bit from both. This section and fora cannot afford to lose them. I hope everybody here show moderation and respect for every opinion. Some may learn a huge lot from ideas you may not like. If this fora is to grow (which I believe it has the potential to do) maturity from members must override personal ideologies and world view. |
