The "pop corn" flicks shouldn't just be all they have to offer in an entire year movie slate, it is not a sustainable model and they will loose relevance really fast. Thier earnings are entirely based on streaming and that's why they should have a good mix of solid flicks and pop corn flicks. Their competition is quite stiff now with HBO max , Disney plus, AMC+ and Paramount+ in the game now. They should have the most "subscribers sharing passwords" among the streaming platform and this thier model is why, people aren't willing to pay to see pop corn flicks that aren't worthwhile week in, week out and so they rather lease passwords.

Funny enough, some of the best movies i have seen, Private Lives (2018), The Ballads of Buster Scruggs (2018), and Marriage Story (2019), were all from Netflix...i pray they go back to this era.

Netflix churned out quite a few quality content in 2018/2019. Quality, I suppose, isn't as profitable as quantity.

I feel Netflix is satisfied with shunning out popcorn flick movies, especially movies studios usually make in the past but now ignore in favour of blockbusters.

Perhaps they’ve observed that people see their movies for the entertainment and nothing more. Most of their popular movies in the last two years have been mindless action flicks like gray man, or romantic comedies like the kissing booth and to all the boys I’ve loved.

I fee they are following the same route this year.

I’m kind of happy for them for being able to attract A-list actors and directors. At least, this would make audience anticipate their movies.

Screenwriters, filmmakers, and actors are like whores_.

If the price is right, they will write, direct, and star in your project.

In all my years on Nairaland I've only reported a single post but if you don't stop this madness you've carried over from last year to this new year, I'll start reporting your post.

WTF is wrong with you? You'd post a TV show on the movie thread and post a movie on the series thread. You've been told to stop this but you've chosen to remain redundant.

Trolling 101.

He's obviously doing it to induce a reaction, which you're providing. I imagine he's grinning from ear to ear as he reads your post.

There are discrepancies in that list.

According to wikipedia, Cameron has directed 9 films, so I don't know why they added an extra 5 to his films, unless they included documentaries and films he served as EP.

Why do the Russos have the same box office gross when Joe Russo has one extra film?

It include the following... 9 feature films, 2 documentaries and Avatar 3, 4 and 5.

The extra Joe Russo film is a Netflix film, hence, the '0' gross.

It's the runtime of 2hrs and above I was running from that made me delayed on watching these award season movies in December till now. Instead I'd just go and watch TV shows. That number dey fear me.

A contender for Best motion picture of year, surely

Spielberg is the greatest of all time filmmaker, you can't convince me otherwise.

Anyways, she's gonna be on a win next year hopefully. I'm certain she'd hit big with Barbie. For Wes Anderson's Asteroid City I'm not sure given the way older audience movies have been flopping aplenty this year.

2023 isn't looking good for her either.

Asteriod City is ensembled cast just like Amsterdam and Babylon. It's pretty bang on it'd be met with similar reception. Being a chick flick is another nail in the coffin.

Barbie is a romantic comedy, basically a chick flick. Chick flicks rarely do well commercially.

Spoilers included.

I think being straight forward was intentional because Blanc himself said he was expecting a complicated case with complicated motives and opportunities. The reason being that it involved Miles, who Blanc thought was a genius, and his disruptor friends. I think we the audience has the same expectations. It turns out that Blanc could have easily found Andi’s killer if he actually had time to question the disruptors one after the other before Duke was murdered. This further confirms that Miles is just a genius we thought he was.

What?!

What are you on about? The film makes it abundantly clear that Miles is a phoney, a moron_ masquerading as a genius. It even provided us with numerous hints pointing to this.

Miles' repeated malapropism was the first red flag. To appear smarter, he made up words.

The second clue alluded to Miles' lack of intelligence. Despite the fact that his company is Alpha, an Omega letter can be seen in numerous places throughout the film.

The third hint suggested Miles was a fraud. This one is a little more difficult to put into words but the gist of it is Miles is an idiot.

Did it really?
First movie had a pretty great red herring with Ana de Armas' character.
Glass Onion ended up feeling rather straight forward. Not much twists and turns on that ride.

When Chris Evans is among the suspects, there's not much of a red herring. I knew it was him from the start, but I wanted to know how he did it, so I kept watching. In the end, I was mostly satisfied with the outcome.

Glass Onion is unique. Again, the killer is obvious, but the story is no longer about the murder mystery, it is a social commentary rich in symbolism and irony.

I recommend watching it again and paying close attention to the clues. It's a hilarious examination of influencer culture.

Glass Onion - A Knives Out Mystery (2022) 7/10

Glass Onion, all in all, is still a pretty enjoyable mystery movie. Just fell a bit of the mark of matching its predecessor.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. It not only matched the first film, it surpassed it.

Glass Onion excels because it transcends the murder mystery genre. It has several layers but is transparent, much like the title. Essentially, it is a mystery that is not a mystery. Although the murderer is obvious, there is more to it than meets the eye.

San Andreas smashed the box office bro. Big part of it was down to the Rock's star power.

abduleez1:

Lol, calm your horses bro... cheesy

San Andreas and Rampage were never box office underperformers. They are not even franchise films and performing that good.

Disaster films used to rule the box office back then. Without any star power, 2012 (another disaster film) made over $700 million worldwide just 5 years prior.

DJ led Hercules barely crossed $200 million on a $100 million+ budget, and Pain & Gain couldn't even reach $90 million globally.

Avatar hitting $1 billion or surpassing $1 billion isn't surprising, it's undebatable, it's destined to surpass $1 Billy.

Black Adam being a box office b.omb is shocking and devastating, like a whole Dwayne Johnson movie flopped so hard and i was even predicting $1 Billy before? cheesy
I think not being released in China affected the revenue.

Can we put an end to the notion that DJ is a titan in Hollywood and that his films are box office smashes?

Aside from his F&F and Jumanji films, his films tend to perform mediocrely. San Andreas, Skyscraper, Rampage, and so on... none of these films did particularly well at the box office.

With Black Adam being a financial flop, I believe it's time to reconsider his status as a box office titan.

I have to agree on the first suicide squad comment. The script was literally all over the place.

Even as a fan of DJ and his style of film, when you stop to think about it, this is probably the most pointless superhero movie ever made.

Not only was it a critical and financial flop, but it was also a part of a universe that is now dead and undergoing a hard reboot. So everything seen in that film was irrelevant, especially that cameo at the end.

Out of all the bad DCEU movies that came out before James Gunn, this one will go down as one of the worst, owing to its pointlessness.

As a the rock matter, I expected the movie to hammer. I didn't find the movie that bad, because all the pissing yall did not it meant I was watching it with reduced expectations from the start. Not that you actually watch a rock movie for the coherent storyline. A man in movies based on boardgames, Disney ride and a middling video game is not where you go to for high quality plot.

People expected something more akin to Infinity War given how DJ hyped it up as his passion project. Instead, we got something more analogous to The Suicide Squad (The first one). Something so mediocre and forgettable that you'd be hard pressed to recall anything quotable from the film.

As far as superhero films go, it ranks second to Love & Thunder as my least favourite of the year.

I find that ending unnecessary though. they would've just shown Janelle Monae's character taking the evidence to court. who the hell would be showing off such a pivotal evidence to the villain and be rubbing it in his face like that?

The sensible course of action is to leave the island as soon as you have the necessary evidence, but even though you would receive the justice you deserve, you wouldn't have the gratification of seeing them wilt and beg you in person. It's the same reason Andi chose to goad the group with emails rather than approach the law directly.

Last time I checked, it has crossed $500m.

In the meantime, BA is as yet flopping in $300m.

I think we've arrived where motion pictures netting a billion will turn out to be extremely rare. All the more so if Hollywood keeps snubbing China.

Spoiler Alert!

I summed it up that SHE, innocent face and all, was the killer of her abuser.

Her husband found the shell hidden away in one of her books after her death.

Yes?

Nah, the lady (Brenda) came upon his trophy box by accident. Every serial killer has one, and in his case, the box was filled with photographs of every woman he had ever murdered, each with varying degree of distress on their faces. He made the decision to silence Brenda permanently after realising that she has seen too much.

However, unlike his previous victims, he had grown to care deeply about Brenda, so her murder tormented him and made him feel remorseful. As a result, he chose not to place her picture in his trophy case with the others.

When Ghat was harvesting his liver, you can see him imagining that his victims were taking his liver.

What is the plot twist?

Seemed pretty straightforward to me.

Fresh storyline though.

Cool movie.

*Spoilers Alert*

Wes did not break up with the woman in the photograph and flashbacks, instead, he murdered her. In short, he was a serial killer.

The twist clearly illustrates that Ghat didn't pick him at random.

House of the motherfvcking Dragon

There is a lot to unpack here. This episode felt particularly good because of the drama. There's a lot of nuance in the characters and how they interacted.

Random thoughts...

* Daemon Targaryen is still the best Targaryen, at least in terms of sheer size of balls and entertainment value.
* I'll admit I'm a little grossed out by the "young" actresses being involved in the sex scenes. Obviously, they are of age in real life, but still.
* Lord Blackwood is no pushover.
* Daemon Targaryen is a master manipulator.
* The sex scenes are steamy without being sleazy.
* This episode has given me a whole new appreciation for alicent. It'll be difficult for me to hate her once the inevitable time skip comes.
* Incest.

Another great episode. That's a nice change of pace. I wish I could watch the entire first season in one sitting. The suspense is killing me!

So I am derseperate to learn from others

People have different tastes, so for this reason, one can tell you what to like or dislike.

Pick a good film to watch, and if you enjoy it, go to Google and type "Movies like (name of movie you just watched)" into the search box, and then pick random options from the search results.

Easy peasy.

Thor: Love & Thunder (2022)

2/5

This film is unwatchable. It feels more like a parody of a Thor movie than an actual Thor movie. I couldn’t help but be disappointed that in a movie of nothing but jokes, none landed for me... okay I may have chortled at the "you flicked too hard dammit" Thor/Zeus scene, but that's about it.

The only bright spot was Christian Bale, who acted his socks off. He could have just phoned it in like everyone else, but as usual, the man gave it his all. Wish he was a bigger part of the movie.

Overall, this might possibly be the worst Superhero movie I've seen since... BvS.

Another controversial w@nker heads the company. A 360 degree U-turn from the mostly quiet WB execs.

The negative press surrounding the film has already soured many people's interest, and when you factor in the negative reviews from critics, it'll be nothing short of a miracle if it receives a positive reception from moviegoers.

Anyhoo, WBD flailing is a soap opera on its own. I'm enjoying the drama. grin

Are you related to Florence or somehow got a taste of the Pughsy... grin

It doesn't take much to dislike Olivia Wilde. She's a walking PR nightmare.

* She cheated on her long-term fiancée, who is also the father of her two children, then tried to play the victim when Suidekis served her papers when she was clearly the villain.

*Claims to be a feminist, but casts a known woman abuser as her film's co-star.

* As if that weren't enough, she used her position as director to influence the inclusion of her boytoy in the film's main cast.

* To add fuel to the fire, she disrespected a Hollywood darling, Florence Pugh, who, in the opinion of many, can do no wrong.

Her reputation is currently in shambles, I'd be surprised if she lands another high-profile project so soon.
