President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to a public outcry that follows the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a notorious unit of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), as he promised to ensure reform of the police.

During his speech at the launch of the presidential youth empowerment scheme at the State House in Abuja, Buhari noted that the first step to extensive police reforms by his administration is the disbanding of SARS.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to address Nigerians’ plights in the areas of national security and societal safety.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), has disclosed that the Best Roof Gas Plant Station located in Baruwa area of Lagos State, doesn’t have any operational license.

According to the oil and gas industry regulator, the gas plant where last week’s explosion occurred, was operating without a license.

While commiserating with the victims of the incident, Sarki Auwalu, Director of DPR, explained that aside from the lack of operational license the plant didn’t have, it was also engaged in illegal operations, which he said resulted in the unfortunate incident.

The Lagos State Government says it is committed to continuous training and retraining of Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators for the effective transformation of waste management in the state.

Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, the Managing Director, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), made this assertion on Friday in Lagos.

Odumboni said to this end, the state government, had through LAWMA organized a three-day capacity building workshop for the Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators in the state.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has cautioned business owners against fraudulent loan offers, especially through social media.

Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, CBN Acting Director, Corporate Communications, gave the warning in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Nwanisobi said that the apex bank was aware that some fraudulent individuals send messages for such offers, especially through social media.

A police officer whose identity is yet to be disclosed is presently on the run after shooting his girlfriend.

In a video circulating on the internet, Newsrand saw that the policeman’s girlfriend was shot in the mouth at Salvation bus stop in Ikeja area of Lagos.

It was gathered that after the policeman perpetrated the crime, he fled from the crime scene and abandoned the victim.

Repair works are on-going on the Murtala Bridge on the Lokoja-Abuja highway as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to safety and free flow of traffic.

Director, Highways, Bridges, and Design at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Emmanuel Adeoye, disclosed this on Thursday at Jamata, Kogi, during an on-the-spot assessment of repair work on the bridge.

The bridge was constructed by the military government of late Gen. Murtala Muhammed in 1976 to link the southern and northern parts of the country and to serve as an alternative to the Jebba Bridge in Kwara, which serves the same purpose.

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has approved the release of the 2019 promotion of 2,248 workers in the state.

Elder Effiong Essien, the State Head of Civil Service made this known at the official opening ceremony of a 5-Day Capacity Building Retreat for Officers on grade levels 13 to 17 in Uyo on Tuesday.

“In his avowed commitment to the development of workers and growth of the Civil Service, Governor Udom Emmanuel has approved the release of the 2019 promotion to 2, 248 workers in the state government employ,” Essien said.

Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the Minister of State for Education, has enjoined members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to quit their teaching jobs and go into farming.

Speaking on the protracted strike by the ASUU, the minister recalled that the union did not embark on the strike on the basis of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying it was for selfish interest.

China is in talks to have its locally-produced COVID-19 vaccines assessed by the World Health Organisation, as a step toward making them available for international use, a WHO official said on Tuesday.

Hundreds of thousands of essential workers and other groups considered at high risk in China have been given locally-developed vaccines even as clinical trials had not been fully completed.

Meanwhile, the locally-developed vaccines had raised safety concerns among experts.

The Board of Total E&P Nigeria Ltd. has approved the appointment of Mr. Victor Bandele, as the Deputy Managing Director in charge of the company’s Deepwater District with effect from September 23rd.

Lagos residents, particularly those living close to be banks of the Ogun River, have been warned told to prepare themselves for an imminent flood.

In a statement obtained by Newsrand, Tunji Bello, Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, warned the residents to be on the alert as more water will be released from Oyan Dam this month (October 2020).

According to the commissioner, the heavy rains predicted for the month by the Nigerian Hydrological Services is likely to compound the floods that the water from the dam would cause in the state.

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered Elisha Abbo, the lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial at the National Assembly, to pay N50 million as compensation to Osimibibra Warmate, whom he assaulted at a intimacy gadget shop in Abuja.

Recall that last year (2019), a video in which Abbo was caught on camera assaulting a pregnant woman, went viral on social media.

A United States (US) federal court, has temporarily blocked the President Donald Trump administration from forcing Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their app stores in the country.

This development emerged just hours before the companies would have been required to implement the ban.

Judge Carl Nichols of the federal court ruled in favour of TikTok after the company had argued that the Trump-led government was infringing on free speech and acting in a capricious manner to harm the short-video app.
