During his speech at the launch of the presidential youth empowerment scheme at the State House in Abuja, Buhari noted that the first step to extensive police reforms by his administration is the disbanding of SARS.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to address Nigerians’ plights in the areas of national security and societal safety.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), has disclosed that the Best Roof Gas Plant Station located in Baruwa area of Lagos State, doesn’t have any operational license.

According to the oil and gas industry regulator, the gas plant where last week’s explosion occurred, was operating without a license.

While commiserating with the victims of the incident, Sarki Auwalu, Director of DPR, explained that aside from the lack of operational license the plant didn’t have, it was also engaged in illegal operations, which he said resulted in the unfortunate incident.

A police officer whose identity is yet to be disclosed is presently on the run after shooting his girlfriend.

In a video circulating on the internet, Newsrand saw that the policeman’s girlfriend was shot in the mouth at Salvation bus stop in Ikeja area of Lagos.

It was gathered that after the policeman perpetrated the crime, he fled from the crime scene and abandoned the victim.

Repair works are on-going on the Murtala Bridge on the Lokoja-Abuja highway as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to safety and free flow of traffic.

Director, Highways, Bridges, and Design at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Emmanuel Adeoye, disclosed this on Thursday at Jamata, Kogi, during an on-the-spot assessment of repair work on the bridge.

The bridge was constructed by the military government of late Gen. Murtala Muhammed in 1976 to link the southern and northern parts of the country and to serve as an alternative to the Jebba Bridge in Kwara, which serves the same purpose.

China is in talks to have its locally-produced COVID-19 vaccines assessed by the World Health Organisation, as a step toward making them available for international use, a WHO official said on Tuesday.

Hundreds of thousands of essential workers and other groups considered at high risk in China have been given locally-developed vaccines even as clinical trials had not been fully completed.

Meanwhile, the locally-developed vaccines had raised safety concerns among experts.

A United States (US) federal court, has temporarily blocked the President Donald Trump administration from forcing Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their app stores in the country.

This development emerged just hours before the companies would have been required to implement the ban.

Judge Carl Nichols of the federal court ruled in favour of TikTok after the company had argued that the Trump-led government was infringing on free speech and acting in a capricious manner to harm the short-video app.
