That advice for specialization is for new people entering the field. If you are just starting, you can't just decide to learn everything. It's just not possible and you will only know so much but not in-depth. That is why it is advisable to specialize when you are starting. It is only in Nigeria where you see someone claiming mastery in seven programming languages. In developed countries, there is something called collaboration which we don't understand.

Let me clear the air a little.....computer Science is much more than programming....there are so many fields involved, computer science in the university will just give you the basics and the solid foundation to a good programmer who knows what is actually going on under the hood...in any field you finally fall in love with you have to practice and study hard on your own or take specific courses in that area.....but the main truth is dat cs in nigeria is dead

I'm actually in a similar position as you. I've been doing data analysis work for some time now (in a very limited capacity), but recently I have wanted to expand my knowledge, skill and tool set. So, I've started down the path to learning data science, and the information is overwhelming, especially with all the packages. So far, I note two good things. Python and R. Technically, they aren't packages, but rather languages, but that certainly can't be held against them. Python has excellent data analysis features, and R is a programming language specifically for statistical computing. The best thing is that both Python and R are open source. That is where I'm beginning my data science journey.

Scipy pandas and Numpy for python.....don't have much experience with them but stackoverflow is always there when u get stuck
