I wanted to also clarify a few things. If you have a fast computer with good specs, Windows is fast. My current computer which runs Ubuntu 15.10 also at one point ran Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

Windows boot up from the manufacturer logo to the login screen was roughly 4 seconds, thanks to the fast SATA3 SSD and the quad core core i7 4710MQ. It's actually funny because on the exact same computer in which I got rid of Windows completely, Ubuntu boots up in about 8 seconds. The difference is negligible as I could care less as long as bootup time is under 30 seconds.

The latest iterations from Windows 8 to Windows 10 have extremely fast bootup times faster than Linux/Mac OS X.

One thing that drove me away from Windows was the crappy version of Windows terminal (command prompt and Windows power shell). Linux and to a certain extent Mac OS X terminal are so much better.

Also everything is prone to viruses, Mac OS X and Linux included. They might be more stable than Windows due to way file permissions work, but that's debatable. There is also a smaller user base for both Mac OS X and Linux.

it probably ran faster than ubuntu because on windows 8 upwards there's a feature called Fast startup enabled by default...in the eyes of the user the system shutdown but the state of core system files are saved to the hard disk to make bootup quicker (so it's almost like hibernating)

But that dosen't mean ubuntu does not slow down on my current linux machine (ubuntu 14.04) the bootup should be > 20 seconds cuz a lot of programs have been installed on it.......Fulaman i know we've clashed in the past ...but you need to join my Linux Telegram group

i truly believed in the teachings of the church, did ur eyes skip the parts were i said i was baptized and currently i'm still a practicing communicant...the decision is still up to me to LEAVE i so i don't need your advice....also i've been in the catholic circle all my life....Pry School was catholic, Secondary School was catholic, University was Catholic....i don't believe the whole church is disgusting i said the things i saw in the university...when did university == the catholic church...i know a lot of good priests and people in the catholic church so i'm not condemning the catholic church

As a language Java is very big and broad and it takes years....yes years to master it and become proficient in it.....If you've started the journey of java....stick to it and continue your learning process....once you've gotten the basic syntax and can stick different pieces of codes to do something then think of a simple small and fun project that when you think of it in your head you know you can implement it but it's quite tough create it on github and give it your best shot try to follow best practices in java and you're building this project....keep on reading advanced books and apply the knowledge you learn from there to your projects (You can have multiple projects that focus on areas you want to learn, not just one)...that's when you'll find yourself moving from a beginner to intermediate level, at this stage you'll begin to see the reason why you should learn more about algorithms and the best way of doing things in Java....ALGO's are very important

Also go on stackoverflow and see if you can answer questions (That's another good way of learning)....if you can answer a question then you're certainly not a beginner again, they're also many interactive learning sites (thought i don't personally know any for java)

To be a good programmer in general do things like a progammer study how they behave, have a github account, ask and answer questions on stackoverflow and always practice and practice and Remember than Rome wasn't built in a day and always be humble don't ever feel like you're on bad guy or an experienced coder (when you get there your work and people will speak for you)

Good evening fellow nairalanders....... I finished my NYSC on 15th of October and fortunately for me, I got my offer letter last week. The total payoff after a month is 30k, I'm to resume on monday but some of my siblings advised me not to accept the offer because I am a second class upper student(B.SC) and I'm less than 24. Probably a better offer will come in because I'm still in the employment age cycle. Pls advice me on this cos I dont knw wen that better offer will come in and another believe I have is that half bread is better than none.

in my opinion take the job offer, but keep your options open and search for others....use it as a platform to gain experience for the short time you'll be there till a better one comes along cuz 30k is too small in the Nigeria we find our self only transport alone with take more than half of the money

The only reason you shouldn't take it is if you have something else to do or your parents are very supportive and help you out while you're searching for a job

but you can't be asking them for money to 'barb hair' or buy 'slippers' so just be a man grab the bull by the BALLS and take the job.

Hi Speechless33, I am a Muslim and I know I might be the last kind of person you might want to get advice from. But then, I'd just try to advice you anyway. This is because sometimes, the solution to our problems may not really lie in the direction where we're searching through.

I always like to have religious discussions not just to convince anyone but sometimes for the sake of seeking knowledge. The fact that I don't agree with a particular point doesn't mean I cant have knowledge about it.

I know many will be surprised to see a non-christian fellow in a thread like this, but I'd like to make everyone understand that I'm not here to create any kind of enmity or problems around here. I'm here because of the OP's worries.

I usually ask people a simple question, why do we actually practice the various religions we are practicing? Most of us could begin to give several reasons within our hearts but the simple truth is that most of us do because that is what we were born into and brought up with. We have been made to believe what they believe and most times majority of us eventually get very grounded in what we do. Think about it, if you were to be born in the northern part of this country where majority are muslims or if your parents were to be muslims, definitely, you will be practicing Islam and you will do anything to defend your faith.

Regardless of this, we still find some set of people, defecting to other religions based on their personal reasons and it all begins when you begin to think and question some things about your belief.

It's really important to note that the fact majority are doing a thing doesn't make it right and also the fact that you do something a way and it works for you doesn't also make it right. An example is idol worship, the fact that some people worship idols and their prayers are answered doesn't make idol worshiping right.

Almighty God who created us Has the knowledge of everything. He created us and gave us rules and regulations to follow. Sin is simply going against the commandment of God Almighty. Just as Adam and Eve committed sin by going against the commandment of God, so also every human being who goes against the commandments of God has committed an sin. Death is not a consequence of sin but it is a sure reality which will overcome every creature in this world. God Who created the heaven and hell knows why He created them. Think about it, if we don't die, how are we going to be judged? It's absolutely obvious that the outcome of the judgement is what will differentiate the dwellers of the heaven from those of hell. If the heaven and the hell are going to be the final destinations, then we all need to ask ourselves what the real purpose of our creation is...

No doubt everyone of us want to go to the heaven and the only way we can do that is to worship God Almighty our Creator alone and follow HIs commandments. The only way we commit sin is because satan the accursed creeps into our hearts and always tend to make us go against the commandments of God. That's why when we commit a sin, we need to repent and turn back to our Creator because He's the only One Who can forgive us and save us from satan. If you flash back, that's the same thing Adam and Eve did and God Almighty Who is The All Forgiving, The Merciful forgave them. He will always forgive us as long as we fall back to Him in sincere repentance...

Islam is the ONLY non-christian faith which makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus Christ(peace be upon him). No muslim is a muslim if he does not believe in Jesus Christ(peace be upon him). This is because he was a messenger and a Prophet of God Almighty.

Islam is an arabic word derived from the arabic word 'slm, which means PEACE'. Islam by definition simply means "peace acquired through total submission to the will of Almighty God".

Muslim is also an arabic word which by definition means "someone who totally submits his/her will to the will of Almighty God"

For those who are really sincerely searching for the truth about the essence of our creation and looking for answers as regards some disturbing issues, kindly consult the Last and Final Revelation sent to the whole of humanity by God Almighty (The Noble Quran) through His Last and Final Prophet and Messenger (Prophet MUhammad, Peace Be upon him).

Quran is the only religious scripture on the surface of the earth which still retains its original for since Its revelation over 1400 years back. Although, It was revealed through Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him), every single word in It is God's.

It's highly important to note that there is no compulsion in religion but at the same time, there's no harm in seeking for knowledge even if it's about what you don't believe in.

Forget about how some unfortunate people try to paint Islam black, you just open the book and look sincerely into it and I pray you find your answers and guidance.

i'm not trying to launch an attack on islam or on you....but i've read so many horrible things about islam and i checked the quran and the hadith to confirm some of the verses and they turned out to be true....i simply can't believe in islam except all the teachings from the hadith are ignored...please feel free to enlighten me or share your opinion

If someone had told me i will be making a life changing decision like this many years ago i would have been enraged, not at he or she but at the force that would dare cause that.

Was born a catholic, baptised by a priest and cofirmed by the state bishop. I annexed to this by becoming a member of the legion of mary (tho left at one time) i was still faithful to the blessed virgin mary with my bead ritual.

The truth is i only had to do this and that and then the other and relax. By relax, i mean do what ever i wanted. Club, have sex, drink, curse, lie, cheat, disobey other authorities, go nude etc as long as i came back for confession all the time and obtained mercy from God through the priest, i was fine. Maybe they didnt think it was fine i.e my lifestyle but the silence and indifference they showed, gave me the wrongest impression. After all i was always encouraged to go for confession like my life was hanging on it.

This is something that all catholics will understand. After confession we feel a bit unburdened with guilt...for a while. I dont know about others, but mine was not always more than an hour and i would be back to square one (or may be i never left there but thought i did). I was not freaky about the sunday communion thing like others cos i didnt think i was worthy.

Going to the university exposed me to other religious groups. I didn't like the way they shouted while praying but i admired the way they reverred the bible and talked about Christ more.
I thought the catholic church was doing little in the teaching of biblical truths but was still a good model for other churches, mushroom churches.

There were times i made resolutions to turn a new leaf but they always never came to a fruition.
Up till now. I couldn't, i cant keep them. All the rules of right living get lost on me. I just cant change. Talked with our priest every day about this after our doctrinal classes (joined the Opus dei) He suggested i read books of saints who had lived and overcame evil and of course by following the many laid down rules and rituals of the church. I read about mother Theresa, Pope John Paul the II, Saint José maria. Still nothing. It only made me feel unworthy but no power in them.

I decided to read the bible at last after so many procrastinations. I started with John and i have not seen any slight resemblance with the Church. I will continue with Matthew, Mark and Luke this month.

So many things in this old boring book are startling me.

It's obvious we are two different kinds of users

1. Yeah the macbook is really sleek (Razer blade is just as sleek too) and i like it...my problem is a user who buys the macbook believe it's the best in all areas and start's lying or talking about spec's they don't know about e.g alienware and macbook (The mac book can't come close to the alienware)....Dude you can never compare them if you understand a little about computers and their hardware you'll hide your head in shame that they are comparable but like you said it's for different users....macbook wins in sleekness and battery life and being a general everyday machine

2. Every product has it's own disadvantages but mac/apple users are so blind that they would never agree to disadvantages of their products they just believe it's better than other products in every way which is not true

Linux is better than a mac YES for the power users....linux is not just ubuntu only there are several distro's out there and server distributions out there (e.g ubuntu server, cent os etc) over a 100...for example why is nairaland not running on an osx server....do you even think at all...osx is not suitable for enterprise, it's good as a personal machine i'm fortunate to have been in a big organization in nigeria that had money to throw around for computing equipments....they had mac machines, windows and linux servers....the mac machines were only used by those that did a lot of graphic work (the rest were dumped in the offices all those oga's at the top)...most of the staff made use of windows because it's easier to maintain when issues arise and linux were used as their servers (i personally saw a linux computer stay up for over 6 months without needing to reboot), can you carry your mac osx in a small flash drive around you could do that with linux, why do hackers use linux if mac is a better os than it...why are so many hacking tools being made for linux before being ported over (i've never seen someone do pentesting or hacking with mac osx except they use a vm with a form of linux installed)...SO BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH AND TELL ME MAC IS BETTER THAN LINUX WEIGH THEM UP EQUALLY....and don't tell me about mac mini cuz i will slap your destiny

check out the bench mark test on phoronix between ubuntu and osx yosemite (i don't think an el-capitan benchmark has been done) Ubuntu beats osx on so many of the tests ...ubuntu is even more secure than mac osx because apple tends to fix some issues late....a friend and i had this argument and thank God a new exploit had just been discovered in bash...i told him to do an update and i also updated my ubuntu system at the end of the day, the bug had been fixed on ubuntu about 2days after it was released into the wild but his mac was still vulnerable to the bash exploit...moreover most linux distro's including ubuntu run a more updated version of bash compared to mac...

and for christ's sake how would you say a custom built pc can't outperform a mac i feel like electrocuting you, reviving you and repeating the same process again and again till you get sense

you just shot yourself in the foot about building a custom mac it's not legally possible....so if a kid wants to learn how a computer works in and out would you recommend a mac...mac (osx and iphone) feel premium cuz their hardware and their os are optimized for each other to provide the best experience not because it's and excellent os or hardware that is out of this world

Even in gaming, how many games does the mac support (without bootcamping and installing windows....it's not fully compatible with steam and the last time i checked steam works flawlessly on linux (Ubuntu too))

Please don't ever compare osx and linux you could compare osx and ubuntu or osx and fedora not the whole linux do you think linux is just ubuntu...linux is everywhere pc's phones, gps, cctv systems, smart tv's etc it's not just a desktop os...though they originated from Unix in a way....today they are very different in their purpose and overall use

I might be biased...but the only thing i've ever liked about apple devices in general is the ui of osx it's very nice....as for the rest iphone, imac, iwhatever they're just crap to me....apple product's have their advantages but the users should know when they are crossing their line and entering into territory where their devices simply can't match up

in the world of linux the customization is endless...mac or win can't match that

why would he punish people for the sins of their parents and forefathers (imagine you beating a small innocent baby that dosen't know anything because his father was mean to you or wronged you)

that time God dosen't condone any sort of nonsense compared to the God being potrayed today....i'm not an atheist...but i'm very sure of one thing that Humans have twisted the idea of God to suit their personal gain..

I don't agree with OP or catholicism totally, but nobody has the right to criticize another person beliefs because the main truth deep down is that nobody knows the real way....if there was truly a certified way to God why are there so many religions today....there's a reason for all this (i don't know the reason yet, nobody knows)...most people get their opinions because of the way they were raised when they were little...you have Christians becoming muslims and vice-versa

Before chrsitianity there was African traditional religion here in Africa, there were other religions before christianity or islam or most of the major religions today

My point is believe what you want to believe as far as you don't hurt others or make others uncomfortable or persecute them....would you tell me that before Abraham there were no good human beings even if they didn't know who God was, Religion has blinded the rational thinking of many of us (even me too)

I also believe God dosen't care about all these minute details of you going to church, or praying countless times in one day (You can never deceive him he is wiser than you, you are only doing that one to deceive humans and for your own pocket)....it's ok to be dedicated but be sincere and don't condemn anyone who dosen't behave as you expect him to....cuz most of you were born into your beliefs

A muslim can swear by his destiny that islam is the way forward
Catholics will say other christians are missing the point
Pentecostals will say that catholics are worshipping idols

I could go on and on but i'll stop here for now
