CelebritiesRe: Emeka Ike Reveals Why Nollywood Cannot Donate N3.5million For Actor Bruno by danies1941(m): 4:54pm On Jul 18, 2015
Transcribe-
The moderator called Emeka on phone hailing him as the President of Nollywood.
He asked what they (Actors and Nollywood) were doing to help Uncle Bruno.
Emeka said he was presently in Abuja and was working on something.
Moderator then asked if they (Nigerians) should wait before raising money until Emeka is done with his "homework"

Emeka said " No o" All Nigerians should contribute whatever they can.

Moderator then asked why Nollywood could not raise such a paltry sum.

Emeka said-simply because he met an empty treasury. That all the millions and billions that we have been hearing about for Nollywood has all gone. That presently he and others were running the Actors Guild based on personal conviction and their own personal funds.

Moderator then said Emeka said talk to Bruno later on phone.

Dasuki is no small fry and he knows his rights, if Buhari's boys have any valid case against him they should go and get an arrest warrant, it makes no sense the deliberate attempt by them to humiliate him, What would it take to have given him the courtesy of inviting him to their office as it's done elsewhere rather than sending in the cavalry as if he is a common criminal,
It's especially suspicious seeing that they laid siege to his house exactly 30 years after he and Col Umar went to arrest then Head Of State Buhari at his residence, thus is just pure vendetta.
Dasuki is no kid, he remains one of Nigeria's finest military products with unquestionable integrity, even when everyone else joined the Abacha government, he felt it was illegitimate and resigned his commission criticising the govt from exile in the US
Exactly 30 years?

Thats wrong sir.

Buhari was overthrown by Babangida on August 27th 1985-not July 17th.

A 13 year old girl cant be that mentally developed to have an ideology or a type or version of any religion for which she will make or purchase an Improvised Explosive Device(IED), tie it arround her body & detonate it in the crowd to kill people & die in the process as happened in Kano yesterday at the busy Dangi roundabout arround 9pm as reported in the News. She was said to have alighted from a car, according to an eye witness, moved a little away and detonated the explosive immediately after.& occupants of the car that dropped her fired some shots in the air & zoomed off. Similar scenarios had occurred in places where young male or female so called suicide bombers have carried out their devilish acts.

The point I want to bring out is that most of these youths are drugged & explosives tied to their body by adults, carried to locations such adults want to destroy & kill people (for only them know why)& press the remote control when the drugged youth reaches a safe distance away from the adult sponsors in their cars! Then the news:a young suicide bomber detonated herself or himself @ so so & so place killing herself & others etc etc! We easily fall for this simplistic conclusion& everyone, including the security agencies that get paid from public money to do their jobs of giving us security)will go to sleep until similar things happen somewhere again. My advice:Every one should be @ alert. When we see a young man or woman alight from vehicle or motorcycle & he or she moves towards a crowd in the market, mosque, church with the vehicle and occupants still idling in the packed car or motorcycle a safe distant away but keenly watching the movement of the youth walking into the gathering ahead,we should take the vehicle no particulars & even take the photographs of the vehicle & occupants with our gsm & immediately alert any or all the security unit closest to us.

We can also take such circumstantial eveidence to the security agencies to use & trace such sponsors if the deed is done. When & if the sponsors & detonators of remote control that blow the IED tied arround body of these(innocent) kids know that they may likely be caught with enough proofs of their involvement, they will stop their dastardly acts. I tell you, these sponsors dont want to die!See. Osama bin Laden was hiding & running from pillar to post to escape being apprehended to face the music but still sponsoring suicide bombers until nemesis caught with him in Pakistan! The Govt & the security agency can actually do nothing much without the assistance & collaboration of you & I & indeed every sensible person

How is this reckless? In every country where there is preponderance of violence-roads are blocked for the President.

Just to appear on talk show for Jay Leno in Los Angeles-do you know much traffic Obama caused in the already chaotic traffic of LA. And wherever and whenever any President of the USA goes to. The UK is a bit different-as there is no history of any UK Prime Minister being killed or a coup. In fact uptil the 1980s-policemen in the UK did not carry guns.

Or you want Buhari to not use motorcade like Muritala to be killed by a drunk soldier.

What could be done is for people to be made aware of roads to be closed and how long.

TV/MoviesBlack November- A World Class Nigerian Movie? by danies1941(op): 8:54pm On Jun 05, 2015
Who has has watched Black November? Its a movie by Jeta Amata with A List Hollywood actors like Mickey Rourke (“Dexter”), Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential)-also has Sarah Wayne Callies from the Walking Dead, Akon, Wyclef Jean and Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill) amongst others.

By Hollywood-it looks like a low budget B movie-but by this is really amazing by Nollywood standards-world class infact.

Never heard of the movie till now. Just saw the trailer-hope to watch it!

A Youtube synopsis reads: A volatile, oil-rich Nigerian community wages war against their corrupt government and a multi-national oil corporation to protect their land from being destroyed by excessive drilling and spills. To seek justice, a rebel organization kidnaps an American oil executive and demands that his corporation end the destruction and pollution. Inspired by true events, Black November is the gripping story of how a community rises up and takes drastic measures to make sure their voices are heard.

These are kinds of movies-Nollywood can make that can be shown to a broad audience in the USA. Most Nollywood movies shown in the USA are just in selected halls for a Nigerian/African audience. A movie like this shown to a broad audience can bring in up to $10 million in just a month.

And by suggesting America-its not that I am a victim of colonial mentality. Far from it. Its about the purchasing power of the average American and the advancement of the film industry there. Imagine a movie producer grossing 2 Billion with one movie in just one year and this not including dvds, cable etc. The main actor of such a movie can expect to be paid N20 million to N50 million + and even waka pass actors can hope to collect 50k. Our 'stars' will no longer have to be begging politicians!

If the charge is up to 10%-then go to the website of the manufacturer like Dell.com or HP.com -type in the model number of the laptop like HP Pavilion dv4-then download the BIOS driver. To download and update BIOS-your battery must be at least 10% and must be on charger.

That is one possible solution.

Other issue could be that the battery has been "misused". Many laptop users misuse their batteries. Like charging it to 100% and leaving it unused for several weeks or constantly allowing it to go to zero and go off amongst other things. If battery is defective-you have to buy another one or if you know how-open up the battery and change the cells.
PropertiesFire At World's Tallest Apartment Building In Dubai by danies1941(op):
A fire is currently raging at one of the tallest buildings in the world- The Torch in Dubai . The fire started about 5 hours ago on the 50th floor (other sources say it is the 50th floor) and is still raging.

Any Nigerians living there -hope you are safe.

"Security guards inside one of the world's tallest residential towers ran from apartment to apartment as fire alarms blared, calling for those inside to evacuate the building as part of it burned.

Kathryn Dickie, who lives on the 13th floor of The Torch in Dubai, told ABC News that the fire alarms began going off about 2 a.m. local time Saturday.

"The guards were pretty frantic," she said.

Dickie said residents believed the fire began near the 51st floor of the 1,100-foot-tall tower. She ran to a friend's apartment nearby, where they watched firefighters battle the blaze.

"You can actually see the flames being pushed out by the fire hoses," she said.

From her friend's apartment, Dickie saw flaming debris fall to the ground and continue smoldering. She estimated that there were at least ten fire trucks outside the tower, where about 2,000 people live.

Dickie, from Australia, said she has lived in Dubai for about one-and-a-half years, where she does business development for a law firm.

Dickie posted a video about 4:20 a.m. local time showing the fire going out. The blaze appeared to be extinguished a few hours after it began, reports The Associated Press.

It's unclear what caused the fire, but police on the scene had no immediate reports of deaths or injuries.

Local media reports high winds caused the fire to spread rapidly.

The tower was completed in 2011 and has 79 floors above ground.

Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, population 9.3 million, is home to the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, which stands 2,716.5 feet tall and more than 160 stories, according to its website."

we still hoping on our indigenous, naija born nd breed artist to bring home GRAMMY
What really is the urge or need for a Nigerian to win a Grammy.

The Grammys are good-but its an American award designed primarily for music produced and sold in America for Americans. They do have a section for International music-but those awards are not even given during the main night.

To win a Grammy -like act of the year or best song or best artiste-means a Nigerian will have to produce a song designed for the American audience-that is a long shot.

Lets develop our own music awards-I think its called PMAN awards? Lets make it credible enough that if we give an international act award-the winners will be proud to display it. The Nobel Prize for example is not an American product-yet it is the most prestigious award in the world today.

The Nigerian music industry is big enough to do it.

You want me to study history to know what I saw with my own eyes? experience is the best teacher they say, I have experienced Buhari's rule previously, maybe it is time for you to experience it. However wise people learn from the experience of others, fools always want to learn from their own experience.

Did you see it stated anywhere in what I wrote that Nigeria experienced famine, Nigerians starved under Buhari, not because of famine but because of Buhari's stupid economic policies.

Your brother paid 50 naira as school fees, maybe you should ask him what he remembered about Buhari's regime, he should be able to guide you as an older brother. I paid 30 naira as school fees under Buhari, during shagari's regime we were not paying school fees. Introdution of 30 naira school fees by Buhari made some families to withdraw their children from school. The best female student in my class was withdrawn because of the 30 naira school fees Buhari introduced.

man, I do not need to study history to know that Buhari was a devil. If in doubt pick up fela's beast of no nation and learn from the song. Peace
Sir, not about asking anybody-I was alive and well too by God's Grace.

I was not talking about public school-I said Private Secondary school HOSTEL-who pays school fees in public school in Nigeria and private school HAS NEVER BEEN FREE anywhere in the world.

The point I was making is when you said people were starving and there was famine. You mentioned famine and compared Nigeria to 1984 Ethiopia -the worst case of famine in the whole world in the last 100 years. That is IMPOSSIBLE. Not in Nigeria-whether under Shagari or Buhari or Jonathan -there is not and has never been Famine in Nigeria and never will be by God's Grace.

Who was starving under Buhari in Nigeria? Who sir? That is just not true. Who can you starve in Nigeria when if you throw corn on the ground along the Lagos -Benin Expressway-without even attending to it-corn will grow-talkless of my village where there is pawpaw, banana, growing freely. Even goats eat vegetable freely on the road side.

An economy where the Naira was 80 kobo to 1 dollar was and is good to me.

I am not one of those who will say that President Jonathan has done nothing-no way. He has made achievements and its left to voters to decide;but the period December 31st 1983 to August 27th 1985 was a glorious period in Nigeria's history-when one was proud to be a Nigerian.

I was in secondary when Buhari overthrew Shagari. In summary I will never wish any person like Buhari to ever come near the sit of power in Nigeria again.

Nigerians thought they were suffering under the last year of Shagari's rule, they only knew the true meaning of suffering under Buhari.

1. For starters he changed the colour of the currency forcing everyone to go to the bank within 3 days to change their money. At the bank, you deposit your money and money is rationed to you. The bank simply refused to give people their money, so folks had money in the bank but can not collect it and were starving.
2. Buhari brought price control, he fixed the price of essential commodities below the cost price, meaning all traders will have to sell at a loss. Traders refused to sell at a loss and locked their shops in the day only sneaking out at night to sell to those willing to buy at a fair price. Buhari responded by using soldiers to break up people's shops and selling private goods below the cost price. Many people went out of business, resulting in long queues and starvation.

3. Buhari stopped the importation of both finished goods and essential raw materials needed by industries, factories had to either close down or seriously downsize, the effect was massive unemployment and long queues for essential commodities, things like bread, vegetable oil, salt, soap, sugar e.t.c People stayed on quees morning till night for several days without being able to buy essential commodities. Some people fainted on the queues. Many people committed suicide from being unable to provide for their families. Many families died from eating hurriedly prepared cassava due to hunger. While in 1980 we were laughing at Ethiopia due to the famine ravaging them, in 1984 we started starving, not because of famine but because Buhari's stupid economic policies meant starvation for the nation.

4. Buhari used soldiers to terrorize civilians, people were routinely flogged on the street, soldiers even entered peoples homes every weekend to flog them all in the name of forcing them to do environmental sanitation every weekend, The little economic activity that was not killed by Buhari's tyrannical economic policies were further damaged by a reduced work week forced on the nation by the mandatory Sanitation days every weekend.

5. in today's Nigeria, if you are hard working you will be able to feed yourself even if you don't become rich, during buhari's regime, food was a luxury many could not afford no matter how hard working they were, it was a regime of brutality, retrenchment and gloom. And the guy did not give a damn if everyone dies from starvation.

6. To get a fair idea of the economic situation was under Buhari, think of what happened in Zimbabwe a few years back, shops were without supplies to sell, the few supplies available became very expensive. the difference is that Zimbabwe's condition was largely due to sanctions imposed on them by western nations, in Nigeria's case it was due to sanctions imposed on Nigerians by Buhari and to make matters worse, Buhari was using soldiers to flog starving Nigerians even on bread queues, such a heartless man.
Starving? Where? Food was a luxury? Starvation? Which Nigeria was that? Are you sure you were not living in Ethiopia in 1984? Because thats where food was a luxury in 1984. Bro tin milk was 20kobo. Newspapers were 15kobo. Peugoet 504 was N9000. The dollar was 75 kobo. My dad's gardner-Baba Alex (a Ghanaian) was earning N200 a month and lived in a 3 bedroom apartment. My brother's school fees at a private secondary school hostel was barely N50 per term.
Are you sure you were living in Nigeria?

Why do my people refuse to study History. This lack of history is really killing Nigeria. Very soon we will hear that Lawrence Anini was a Pastor and Dimka was a former President.
Bisi Akande see what you caused by sacking all the history teachers when you were Governor!
Ethiopia's famine was in 1984 NOT 1980. A simple google search will show you this. Nigeria HAS NEVER experienced famine. No one was starving in 1984 Nigeria. Haba.

Under Buhari the police could pretty much arrest and detain anyone they felt like

Haba-a simple visit to any library in Nigeria or a request to any newspaper house to see old copies of their newspapers-or better still -ask any Nigerian at least 39 years old who lived in Nigeria before 1983 if the Police suddenly became corrupt in 1983? It seems you have never heard of Inspector General Adewusi of the 2nd Republic. The corruption in the police force like other areas of Nigerian life started way back in the 1st Republic and got worse after the civil war-when Gowon began to look the other way and allowed civil servants to do as they liked-something which Muritala briefly corrected for about 6 months-before Obasanjo started the old ways again in 1976. Although in those days-people still hid their loot and took bribes under the table. Now a days-even a civil servant on an annual salary of N500,000 openly displays his 10 million naira 'Jeep' spends N20 million re-burying his late grand father who died 20 years ago.

Every single person detained under the Buhari government was detained under laws.

No one disappeared
No 'enemies' were assassinated

People accused of crimes were told what crimes they were accussed of and allowed their day in court.

Gani Fawehinmi-by all standards -the most outspoken critic of injustice in the history of Nigeria-took odds with the NBA at the time and openly supported Buhari. Buhari's Government is the ONLY government in the history of Nigeria that Gani Fawehinmi did not 'fight'.

There was a law that Uncle Tai broke thats why he was jailed. He wasnt arrested and locked in a cell for no reason. He broke that law (although a law that could only work in a military government or during a state of emergency). I spoke with Dr Solarin many times and his quote concerning the Buhari government baffled me. He actually admired his jailors!

It's hard to get the real truth about General Buhari's first government when all the storytellers are trying to influence our votes. President Jonathan's people want us to believe that it was a terrible time for Nigerians, but General Buhari's people say it was blissful and lovely.

I found the stories and quotes below on the US library of congress website (via barcanista, ironically). They're very balanced and objective, so please let's all read them very carefully. I have consciously chosen not to highlight the paragraphs that I might personally consider to be important since that will introduce bias.
Why is it difficult to get the truth about Buhari's regime? Were there no human beings alive in Nigeria at that time? Even if one wasnt alive at that time or was too young-doesnt such a person have parents or friends much older? Why do I have to access the US Library of Congress to find out facts about my own country?

Why do you have to resort to foreign media or any media to know how life was under his government?

Just ask those who were alive at that time and there were at least 100 million people -the vast majority of whom are still alive today.

The only people at that time who complained about his government were:

Thieves

Corrupt politicians and their relatives

People who didnt like queuing up at banks and bus stops

People who saw no reason for NOT littering the streets

The vast majority of people I know admired his government and patriotism filled the air. Even many of those who had issues with him praised him. Tai Solarin was jailed for 6 months under decree 2-yet praised him -describing his government as "effectively ruthless" in effect one of the 2 only good governments Nigeria had had as at the time of his interview withe TheNews Magazine in 1991.

But that was 30 years ago-I cannot say that those opposed to his candidacy today are in that category. Maybe the Buhari of 1985 is not the Buhari of 2015 or maybe he is.

If it is the same Buhari of 1985 that is contesting today-then any sane Nigerian will vote for him. But if it is not-then I dont know.

Y kill innocent pple
Bros-thats a big lie. No woman was executed by firing squad under the Buhari/Regime.

A 19 year old was sentenced to death for drug trafficking. Her sentence was commuted to jail term.

Stop spreading lies and falsehood.

If a law says death is the penalty for a crime-then dont commit the crime.

I thought David in the bible didn't need an ak47 and bullet-proof vests? grin
That prayer should give him the "full armor of the lord",so he can battle with nothing but a singlet, boxers and a slingshot... grin
Bro-have you ever read analysis of warfare in the old testament? Try and watch the Military Channel and see how its analysed. Knowledge is light.

David's killing of Goliath was by strategy. An accurate sling shot to the right spot of the human body (especially an exposed path) resulted in instant death.
Try taking such and see if you will live!

May God protect our soldiers. But with all sincerity we need to retool and re-equip our military. We cant continue to use the same weapons used during the civil war and expect any country or terrorists to take us seriously.

We have the resources and the means to crush Boko Haram in a month. See a picture of a 90 Matador" anti-tank rocket launcher displayed in Germany in 2005 and being examined by Alhaji Labaran from the Defence Ministry in 2005-- To his left is Rabiu Kwankwaso-Minister of Defence under Obasanjo in 2005. Why cant we deploy these and smash these evil terrorists.

God bless Nigeria.

One of the greatest problems of Nigeria is that we are not taught history in schools.
Every prep school student in the UK (age 8 to 12) can not only tell you all the Kings and Queens of England from William the Conqueror in 1066 to Queen Elizabeth the 2nd-but also the names of all the major players in English history-Oliver Cromwell who beheaded Charles the 1st in 1649, Prime Minister Chamberlain who was deceived by Hitler and any Grade school student in America can not only tell you all American Presidents-they know who General Marcathy was and why the USA entered world war 2. My neigbours 14 year old son here in Lagos does not know General Bissla was, has never heard of Colneal Dimka not Mamman Vatsa and does not know who Kaduna Nzeogwu was. He doesnt even know who the current Minister of Mines and Power is.

This lack of history reveals itself when people dont even remember that the Naira was exchanging 80 kobo to a dollar in 1984 and was still strong until 1986 when IBB devalued the naira to please the IMF-thats when the Naira started exchanging for N10 to a dollar.

Thats why I laughed when Governor Akande sacked all history teachers in Osun in 1999. And i was in Science class in secondary school.

A people who dont know their past-can not prepare for the future. A people who dont know their history will continue to make the same mistakes over and over.

Alleybuy:
Abike haba 541 jets, lol...why not cross check the website before posting lies

According to her link after the purported 541 Aircrafts bought by Buhari (1984-1985)

IBB regime added additional 201 (1986-1993). . .

Abacha added 20 (1994-1998)

Obasanjo added 94 (1999- 2007)

Yar Adua before he died added 231 (2007-2010)

GEJ added 20 ( 2011- 2013)

It is even more shocking that the Buhari regime bought more Aircrafts than the USA (398) despite stories of how broke we were that even warranted salient projects like the Lagos Metroline truncated . . .

It is not out of place to doubt the factual authenticity of the site with the glaring realities on ground . . . . Where are

Nigerian budget (1980 - 1986) //// Recurrent expenditure //// Capital expenditure
1980. //// 4.085 billion naira. //// 10.163 billion naira
1981. //// 4.846 billion naira. //// 6.567 billion naira
1982. //// 5.506 billion naira. //// 6.417 billion naira
1983. //// 4.750 billion naira. //// 4.885 billion naira
1984. //// 5.827 billion naira. //// 4.100 billion naira
1985. //// 7.576 billion naira. //// 5.464 billion naira
1986. //// 7.696 billion naira. //// 8.526 billion naira

How much out of our 4 billion naira capital expenditure was used to buy 986 million US dollars worth of aircraft and missile air defense systems in a time of peace with "jovial and peace-loving"neighbor countries.

A federal legislator who should know better should not descend to this ludicrous level of ignominy.
Bros e-do some research na. Dollar was 80 kobo in 1984. 1 billion naira was N800 million.
