The CBN took the right decision, ABOKIFX was fast becoming another CBN without regulations.. it was the go to hub for street rates and open to fraud.

E.g Aboki Fx could buy 1 million dollars this morning and sell in the afternoon with the propaganda on an increase in rates.. it's open to manipulations.

ABOKIFX took away the haggling of rates by putting in a fixed rate.

CBN did good, since they shut down ABOKI, dollar has remained same price without the increase on hourly basis we had before now.

Many will not understand or agree to these insights you have given.

Most of these sites u see refer to Abokifx; I say this because for years I was looking for quotes that will either favour me when buying or when I am selling. I believe they source from abokifx which is why you will never see any differences in the quotes. They are unified in what is quoted which shouldn’t be if they were really getting proper data independently. They can’t all be getting exact same data Unless their data source is exactly same which is very improbable. Even the banks that CBN give rates do not quote same exchange rates. You should also know that most of these sites will typically not have agents in the markets who gives them quotes independently.

I don't know about others but I use abokifx as a guide. For example last week I checked and saw 535, but I finally got a rate closer to aboki (530) as against bank rate of 412.

Just the way you use it as a guide, so do those mallams. The site has become an influencer.

From my experience, their rates aren’t always accurate. In fact just yesterday, we got people willing to change at 550 and 555 yet Abokifx was showing 570 on their dashboard. There have been several past instances. It is just indicative to those who are abroad who don’t have direct numbers of mallams. And a lot of people abroad who wants to sell dollars just go there and tell you Oga, dollar na so so so. “Check AbokiFX to confirm“.
To be fair on the guy, he did a lot of work to get street credibility over the years but has somehow started using it to manipulate the rates (my opinion). I used to trust it back then but not this year.

Actually he would still be better off. Because, he has dollars that he can convert to naira. Eg if he has $2,000 and converts to naira with an exchange rate of ₦500 to 1$, he would have ₦1 million. So you see even if things are more expensive, he would still have more naira to spend because he is converting from dollars to naira.

I am busy and don’t have time to explain in detail. But I will give you a little insight.
Dollar increases, cost of material increases. You get more Naira but do you really get more value? Fine when compared with those that are local whose salaries or income do not increase ,he is sort of better off because the local power of purchase for them is reduced. But let us go to him that thinks the devaluation of the Naira is good for him.
He finishes building his house at say 45 million Naira. And if he is to sell, the house is Worth 55 million in 2021. Using a rate of 550 to a dollar, he built the house $81.9k and sellable at $100k. Fast fwd to 4 yrs when the dollar has hit $1100. Do you think the house he built can be sold for 110 million,NO. The answer is no because going by antecedents it doesn’t change as the dollar changes. Take a house that was being sold for 150 million in 2015 when the exchange rate was N150. Meaning the house was worth $1,000,000. Do you know how much such a house is worth now, not more than 250million Naira. Is dat up to a million dollars? No. But when compared to the 150 million naira of 2015,it may appear as if the house has significantly increased in value but in real dollar equivalent, it has significantly lost value to about $500k as against the initial $1 million dollars of 2015.
So you see, having a good property investment in Nigeria is like being on a 5 star cruise ship that is on water (Nigeria) where the cruise ship is moving fwd but the tide of the country is moving backwards. Years later, u will discover u have made a lot of progress on the water but the tide of the water made you regress in relation to land. Unless you are in a business like selling cars where you can base your selling price directly on the exchange rate, overall, you are regressing.

I believe you are abroad and thinks ur dollar has more value because it gives you more naira. Then you are quite myopic because the cost of everything increases as the naira is devalued since every thing is imported.
Keep praying for the economy to go down rather for it to be stronger.
You also forget that whatsoever investments you make within the country is also reduced in value.
