Religion / Re: Top Ten Signs That You Are A Christian. by DARA1234: 3:18am On Jan 26, 2013
Leave Christians and their belief alone,they have not forced you to believe what they believe, and they have not threatened to kill you if you don't believe their God.
THEIR BELIEVE GIVES THEM HOPE OF ETERNITY,
IT ENCOURAGES THEM TO STICK WITH ONE WIFE...chance of diseases reduced
IT DISCOURAGES THEM FROM DRUNKENNESS...saves money, keeps family together
IN SHORT ENCOURAGES A SAFE HAPPY FAMILY
THEN WHY ATTACK THEM
hold unto your believe and stop trying to justify yourself and repress your fear by attacking people who believe God and Jesus Christ His Son.

Sports / Re: London-2012: Task Ahead Is Clear - Minister Of Sports by DARA1234: 11:45pm On Aug 09, 2012
Sports is a science, you need to be trained in the physiology and physics.
Nutrition, appropriate muscle development etc. You need a proper sports program as the minister said, we need sports physiotheapists,sports doctors,nutritionists etc.We need to start now, in the UK and America, the schools and Universities have well equipped sport complexes and that is where talents are developed.
Religion / Re: Experiences On A God-centered Romantic Relationship by DARA1234: 12:07pm On Apr 13, 2012
You have raised some questions DAVIDYLAN;
ROMANTC RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS;
-God centered
-True christian
My own opinion is that both parties need to be God fearing, this means not the fear of Pastor, the neighbour or any body that will see them but rather the fear of God in all their conduct.
It also means they have to have a christ-like attitude, selflessness is the key.Not just individuals desire but the partners best interest should be paramount.
With this in mind, we would not cheat on each other, lie to each other.
SEX
Yes the most pressing topic; IT IS SWEET. VERY SWEET; but only when eaten in marriage by the couple because, you would'nt have remorse, fear, condemnation, guilty conscience etc.You can do it in the room, sitting room, bathroom, dinning, kitchen, without fear as long as you are married and God will be happy with you.
But what do we do before marriage; TALK, TALK AND TALK.Not only spiritual...Yes spiritual, but talk exciting things, what you like about each other etc, talk about sex too...but only when you are in the open and not be overcharged.PLAY...YES PLAY....but not sex plays as they may lead to the place of no return, play games, sports, computer games, watch movies, volunteer together, enjoy each others company.
LEAVE SEX AS THE ICING ON THE CAKE ON YOUR WEDDING NIGHT
I have spoken from experience.
Remember; MARRIAGE IS HONOURABLE AND THE BED UNDEFILED..HEB13V4.

Most websites in Nigeria are nothing to write home about-NAIRALAND is an exception, and yet on his site you can see good pogrammers working to try to fix a problem...I think the way forward for Nigeria is privately inspired efforts until we have leaders WHO WILL IDENTIFY A PROBLEM AND WORK HARD TO SOLVE IT like the lagos state guy.

An American would support anything American, would protect its own and no wonder it is a great country, in Nigeria we pull ourselves down we have this negative pessimistic attitude towards ourselves, we believe we cannot do anything-hence the reason we doubt the ability of Okonjo Iweala, a self developed woman. Without your help she has reached where she is by hard work.Here we are, some of you with no credible qualification are being so negative against this hard working woman, we should celebrate her, we should encourage her and not the opposite, by the way what single positive thing have you achieved as a person at least Okonjo can point to many, what have you achieved.
If Fashola didn't have executive power, pessimists would have prevented him from achieving,but the free hand and determination he has as helped him,let us support people like this, PLEASE LET US BE MORE POSITIVE IN ALL WE DO.

It is so so dissapointing to read all these comments on NAIRALAND. I would have expected people to raise dust, complain on face book etc against such corrupt practices and here we are justifying it and yet we blame the government for corruption.
Let forward thinking nigerians write on the face book account of the President complaining about this injustice, I will do my part, by the time we have 1 million complaint, I am sure something would be done, write on Ribadu's wall as well. LET US SAVE NIGERIA.

Secondly, does any one know a good secondary school with boarding facilities that prepares students for WAEC/GCE/JAMB etc. I mean where the student can go for 1 year to prepare for these exams.
Thanks for any good info.

Politics / Re: Why Gain A Kobo To Lose A Naira? By Dr. Okonjo-iweala by DARA1234: 2:06pm On Jan 09, 2012
I totally support Ngozi Iweala, if we do not remove this subsidy we will EAT ALL OUR SEEDS WITH NOTHING TO PLANT. With the surrounding countries with no subsidy the subsidized oil will end up in neighbouring countries. We want to have good roads, housing, education and we do not want to pay for it, yet WE ARE READY TO RUN TO WESTERN COUNTRIES WHERE THESE THINGS ARE AVAILABLE AND WE PAY 22-45% AS TAX ON OUR EARNINGS.
 A good student denies pleasure, works hard to pass an exam and enjoy promotion.Let us save NIGERIA and REMOVE THIS SUBSIDY.
But Government must provide more cushioning effect by subsidising locally produced food crops, and other basics of life at least until we start refining and petrol prices starts falling.
Politics / Re: Chief Femi Fani-Kayode Thinks Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Is "The Problem" by DARA1234: 2:15pm On Jan 05, 2012
One other thing the govt should consider doing is to use some of the subsidy money to SUBSIDIZE the price of locally produced food crops for say the next 4 years, this will cushion the hard effects of oil subsidy removal, so if the government subsidizes Cassava-garry, Beans, tomatoes, pepper and other domestically produced, refined and consumed food crops, this will bring down the prices of food, encourage farmers to produce more and provide more jobs for the masses.THIS WILL BE A BENEFIT OF FUEL SUBSIDY.
Politics / Re: Chief Femi Fani-Kayode Thinks Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Is "The Problem" by DARA1234: 1:47pm On Jan 05, 2012
If Fani-Kayode had renovated the International Airport when he was minister or if he has one single thing to say that he achieved while in position, then we may listen to him. Nigerian Airports are so  much an embarrassment no thanks to previous ministers and leaders.
 IWEALA is a woman with a passion to change NIGERIA for the better. Many people in Nigeria don't realise we are in a deep hole, if we do not save for the future now we are going to suffer in the future, we have no infrastructure, we do not MANUFACTURE, we do not produce, the only major thing we EXPORT-oil- is refined by another country and sold to us at a much higher price, some few people are benefiting from this. If we suffer this pain now and get a stronger foundation and become refiners ourselves we will sell our oil at a higher price to other countries.
 WHAT THE GOVT NEEDS TO DO IS TO ENSURE THE MONEY GOES INTO SPECIFIC LIFE CHANGING PROJECTS THAT WE CAN SEE, LET THEM PUT SOME ASIDE FOR SAVING FOR THE FUTURE AND SPECIFIC REFINERY PROJECTS WITHIN A TIME FRAME OF COMPLETION SO THAT WE DON'T IMPORT REFINED OIL AGAIN, ALSO SPECIFIC POWER PROJECTS TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN A TIME FRAME DIFFERENT FROM WHAT IS GOING ON NOW. IF THEY DO THIS THEN IT WILL BE WORTH IT.
 WE NEED MORE IWEALAS IN NIGERIA, not people who want the same old 'chop I chop'.
Politics / Re: GEJ Challenges State Govts On Free Feeding For Pupils by DARA1234: 12:29pm On Dec 09, 2011
Very laudable and commendable, I am sure this will attract more students to school, ensure basic education, healthy development and a better adult life.It will be commendable to introduce it nationwide, you will be surprised how many people cannot afford daily food, food at school will at least provide some basic nutrition. God bless initiatives like this that help the common Nigerians.
I wouldn't mind the removal of oil subsidy if many of the benefits goes back to the masses instead of a few tens.

Lets be practical
How much does child care cost(about 600 pounds/month), if you work full time, you will need child care/creche or baby sitter. I believe your husband filled that role previously, what about house care:cleaning, etc, does he help ?. Maybe he wants to be a house husband, you work while he takes care of the house, have you two considered that. Remember, no man is perfect, he may be jobless but is he loving, would you swap him for a controlling man that is rich but extremely demanding,look before you leap my sister. If you were jobless and he was working and he makes the same accusation about this FB guy would you consider divorce after an argument. I DO NOT CONDONE HIM AT ALL, BUT PLEASE IF HE IS NOT VIOLENT, I WILL ADVICE YOU TO  RECONSIDER FOR ALL 3 OF YOU SAKE, try at working more on the marriage.No matter what people tell you DIVORCE IS EXPENSIVE IN EVERY WAY, ON ALL THE FAMILY , I HAVE SEEN IT.Please try more, MAY GOD GUIDE YOU AND SPEAK INTO YOUR MARRIAGE and bring healing, try a good church that emphasises strong marriage foundation, your husband could get counsel that will challenge him, don't give up, don't join those who have, YOU ARE A STRONG WOMAN, you can save your future, that of your child and your husbands, remember how it was at the beginning, THE LOVE CAN BE REKINDLED.

can someone please describe the accent of the following people when they speak English;
-Spanish
-German
-Italian
-Dutch(people from Netherland)
-Parkistani
-Indian
these people all have accent and are not ashamed of it, what makes the Nigerian accent a bad one, I feel proud whenever I am overseas and hear black people speak in Nigerian accent it is our way why should we disparage it, we were born that way, why can't we be proud of it just like the Italians etc.
It is a shame, the same people complaining about Nigerian accent will find it sophisticating when an American or British speak Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba or Efik with an American or British accent.
If the OYIBOS make us think our own is inferior must we agree with them ? . HABA.
Thank God for Nigerian actors like Idris who speak Nigerian accent in International films (eg Bourne series, ? Supremacy).

You seem to me an intelligent guy, you have a problem and rather than acting unwisely you have come to ask for advice, I SEE GREATNESS AHEAD OF YOU.However, YOUR ATTITUDE WILL DETERMINE YOUR ALTITUDE. Turn it down, don't jump to answer question unless you are asked, leave everybody else to have a go, if they don't ask you, keep quiet but answer the question in your mind.What you must do now is to WORK HARDER, BECAUSE WHEN THE RESULT OF THE JAMB RESULT IS RELEASED THE FIRST RESULT EVERYBODY WILL SEEK TO KNOW IS YOURS, AND YOU KNOW HOW SHAMEFULL IT WILL BE IF YOU DON'T PASS WELL, the best way to prove your intelligence is by studying very hard, harder than every one else, use the Jamb syllabus to pattern your studies, don't base your intelligence on your mates, base it on what you are scoring in you practice test questions, YOU SHOULD BE SCORING HIGHER THAN 80% IN EACH.If you have further questions post it and I am sure you have brothers and sisters here to help.

Question for all interested in answering, if many Nigerians migrate to the, say USA, and after a while the government of USA decides to limit your growth by asking all male newborn children to be killed, imagine new couples first child is a bouncy baby boy, but he has to be killed, to limit the growth of his people.Is that Justice,

 Pharaoh enslaved the Israelites, made their life miserable, even though the Israelites brought progress to his land. He ordered the killing of the male children just to curb there growth.Exodus 1 v 10-22. After a mortal king challenged the Almighty God severally, God put pharaoh in his place, an ordinary mortal, he was plagued, and faced the repercussion of his actions, is GOD wicked or Just to have protect the weak and defenceless, no.
 The recent post election violence with killing of YOUTH CORPERS was deplorable, many on NAIRALAND described the president as weak for not meeting out the right punishment on the perpetrators, wouldn't you have described GOD the same if he allowed all the injustices in the bible to go free.
All the inferences you(@EVIL MAN ) made were retribution for injustice and a defence of the defenceless or a correction of wrong after many warnings. Now because of GRACE God doesn't meet out instant judgement, HE gives room for repentance and salvation, He is giving you the same now, what do people say; they describe God as weak, and people don't believe you when you take an oath on the bible they ask instead for oath by god of thunder, god of iron etc because the judgment according to them is swift. NOW GOD AS GIVEN EVERY ONE THE CHANCE TO REPENT, A VERY LONG ROPE, NO INSTANT JUDGMENT, PEOPLE SAY THERE IS NO GOD NOW BECAUSE OF THIS, PEOPLE MOCK GOD, WHEN HE BRINGS HIS JUDGMENT ON THE LAST DAY, WILL YOU BLAME HIM ? .

@Evil Brain
, that was the thing that made me start losing my faith. What first struck  me was what a horrible, horrible person the old testament god was. He was cruel, petty vindictive, bloodthirsty, mean, killed people almost randomly for no good reason, and was basically the opposite of what I thought a decent person should be

This and the rest of your post is an example of how NOT to write a reflective article or statement, it has no base, no foundation, no source, please go back to the bible you read as an 8 year old read it again now that I presume you are an adult, reference the events that happened exactly as it is in the BIBLE come back and then we would have an INTELLIGENT discussion of the issues,
Religion / Re: How Many Here Have Read The Bible From Cover To Cover. by DARA1234: 9:21am On May 26, 2011
Mazaje my Fellow good Nigerian. You have not made a simple scientific explanation of all you have said here, all assumptions, somebody said this, somebody said that, no proof, no evidence based study, you have not spoken as a scientist at all. Even though I believe in creation, going through the thread I have provided more hard scientific facts (e.g photosynthesis depends on Light not only sunlight , The Earth is made up of mainly water, 2/3rd about 70% ), than you who claims to be a scientist. Please itemize your solid scientific evidence on your theory with references, make it evidence based, do some intellectual work, let it be visible for all NAIRALANDERS to see, lay it plain.No more fairy tell ", there is life somewhere in another planet far away that we cannot reach , ",this is an assumption, give us proof, did you get a phone call from someone there . It amazes me you have faith in another planet with life forms based on assumptions but you do not have faith in God .
 ONLY CREATION THEORY MAKES SENSE; THE PERFECT ORDER OF CREATION, SEASONS, CLIMATE, PHOTOSYNTHESIS, LIFE,GROWTH ATTAINMENT OF PUBERTY,SEASONAL MIGRATION OF BIRDS, AND ALL NATURE YOU SEE CANNOT HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT, IT REQUIRES A MASTER ARCHITECT, GOD,JEHOVAH,ALLAH,YYAW EH OBANGIJI, OLODUMARE , DEPENDING ON YOUR LANGUAGE, ANCIENT GREEKS CALLED HIM THE UNKNOWN GOD(ACT 17 V 23 ). I THANK GOD I AM A BEAUTIFUL CREATIVE WORK OF HIS , I AM NOT AN ACCIDENT, ARE YOU AN ACCIDENT OF NATURE MAZAJE ?.

Ok lets start with this one, how do you explain this. . . .

1 John 4:8 says that God is Love. . . .

1 Corinthians 13:4 says Love is not jealous. . .

Exodus 20:5 says God is jealous. . . . .

REPLY

Never cut a part of a statement and present it as fact, this are the  full verses you quoted from

Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. 1corin 13v 4

He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. 1John 4v8

You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me. But showing mercy and steadfast love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.Exod 20 v 5-6, choose which one you want from God

I am the Lord; that is My name! And My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to graven images. ISA 42 V 8

GOD IS LOVE, BUT HE IS NOT A WEAKLING, HE EXPRESSED HIMSELF SO CLEAR, SO CLOSE TO THE PEOPLE IN WILDERNESS, GAVE THEM ALL THEY NEEDED BUT HE WILL NOT TOLERATE IDOLATORY…YES HE IS JEALOUS FOR HIS OWN PEOPLE…POSTER WILL YOU BE HAPPY IF AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE VICTIM TRIES TO SEDUCE YOUR LOVER DESPITE YOUR SHOWING HIM/HER ALL THE LOVE, CARE, PROVISION etc?.
1For My own sake, for My own sake, I do it [I refrain and do not utterly destroy you]; for why should I permit My name to be polluted and profaned [which it would be if the Lord completely destroyed His chosen people]? And I will not give My glory to another [by permitting the worshipers of idols to triumph over you]. ISA 48 V 11

From the same wikipedia where you got your above definition of firmament it also says that "The word "firmament" is meant to correspond with the word raqia, or raqiya` ( רקיע), as used in Biblical Hebrew.
Firmamentum was used in the Vulgate, a 4th century Latin translation of the Christian bible. This term was consistent with the previous (circa 200 BC) Septuagint translation of the Old Testament which used the Greek stereoma, meaning solid structure, and with the notion of solidity advanced explicitly by other biblical passages.[3]

Job 37:18
With Him, have you spread out the skies(raqiya),
Strong as a cast metal mirror?

To the ancient Jews the firmament was a solid structure meant to divide the waters above from the waters below. . recent english translation have change the word raqiya to mean expanse. . . . .
Quote @Mazaja
From the same wikipedia entry on firmament it says: "The Jewish Encyclopaedia describes the firmament as follows:
The Hebrews regarded the earth as a plain or a hill figured like a hemisphere, swimming on water. Over this is arched the solid vault of heaven. To this vault are fastened the lights, the stars. So slight is this elevation that birds may rise to it and fly along its expanse.[15] "

Can any one tell me the Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa translation for; ATOM, NEUTRON,ELECTRON, PROTON, DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID, HEMOGLOBIN and many more……various description of the firmament with different names in Hebrew,Greek,Latin etc all try to explain term “void”…THE IDEAS IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED …ANOTHER EXERCISE; IN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE GIVE A WORD FOR “VOID” and see how many things it can mean, the summary is this;
FOR AS HEAVENS ARE HIGHER THAN THE EARTH, SO ARE MY WAYS HIGHER THAN YOUR WAYS AND MY THOUGHTS THAN YOUR THOUGHTS…ISAIAH 55V9.
