Career / Advice From 30 Year Old Me To 20 Year Old Me by Datevilme: 9:59am On Oct 26, 2015 |
11 things that I wish I knew when I was 20. I recently turned 30. For some very odd reason I've not warmed to the idea of it just yet. However as I began to evaluate my 20s I realised how many mistakes I've made and things I've learned in a decade of life. I took some time to write myself some advice. 1) Travel You have very little responsibility so go and travel. When you get to 30, you’re going to want to travel slightly differently, spend a little more, do slightly more expensive things, eat at slightly better restaurants. So work for a year and save enough money to experience the world on the cheap. How do you know what you want to do if you don’t know what’s out there to do? Don’t just travel to the obvious places. Travel to the tough places. Travel to learn. Travel to discover. Travel to the places that will challenge who you think you want to be. 2) Build things Don’t spend too much time working on other people’s visions or in other people’s meetings. Spend time figuring out what your own world view is (see point 1) and where you want to take your own life. Meetings are where ideas go to die. If you find yourself in a corporate job that you wish you could leave then do it. Leave. If you don’t have a corporate job yet see point 5. 3) Read Read every day. Read everything you can. Don’t just read about things you know about. Read about people. Read people. 4) Stop Watching Television Right now. Stop it. It’s not helping you get better at anything. 5) Career Do not take that corporate job. Just don’t do it (see point 2). 6) Trust Even if it kills your relationships. Even if it destroys your ideas. Even if you lose your friends. Even if it means you end up getting hurt. Trust people until they give you a reason not to. But don’t be naive. Some people are out to Bleep you. 7) People People are the best and worst thing that will happen to you. Some will help you go further, faster. Others will pull you down to their level and help you lose. Most are OK. Many are average. Some are excellent. A few people will change your life forever. Find them. You don’t need a lot of friends or people around you. You need amazing people who do for you as you do for them. It’s simple really, a lot of average friends will leave you feeling alone when you need to feel surrounded by people who care. 8. Value Time Don’t waste time on people who you don’t trust. Don’t waste time with lovers who cheat on you. Don’t waste time with friends who don’t treat you the way you treat them (see point 7) Do not be late. Value other people’s time. That means that if you’re late, you don’t give a shit about them or their time and that you think you’re worth more and therefore can keep them waiting. Some people will tell you that it’s OK to be late. It’s not. Some people will tell you that it’s just the way they are. Then you need to reevaluate them (see point 7 above). 9) Fail Fail a lot. Fail often. Fail at love. Fail at sex. Fail at socializing. Fail at making friends. Fail at work. Fail at business. Fail with family. Fail with existing friends. Fail. But do it quickly and learn a lesson. If you don’t learn something every time you fail then all you've done is failed. If you learn something, then you've grown. Every time you grow and learn and fail, you get better at figuring out how the hell to succeed. 10) Success There is no point at which you will have succeeded. Not in your twenties. Not ever. Get over that fact and start building things (see point 2 and combine with point 9). 11) Patience Be patient. Nothing worth doing is worth doing quickly. Nothing worth building is worth building in a rush. Nothing of value is formed in a minute. Plan in decades. Think in years. Work in months. Live in days. Career / 7 Ways Low Income Earners Can Make The Most Out Of Their Earnings. by Datevilme: 11:46am On Oct 19, 2015 |
It is a known fact that a substantial percentage of Nigerian Graduates are Unemployed, and from the few that do have jobs, many of them are underemployed and payed stipends that barely see them through to the end of the month. Here are 10 ways you can maximize your low income. 1. Cut your cloth according to your material. Acknowledge the fact that you earn a low income, don't spend above your means. Minimize your spending as much as possible. Bare in mind that your current status is only for a while, you will blow eventually. 2. Try as much as possible to ensure you do not spend too much on transportation. Transportation as we all know takes up a great chunk of ones earnings most of the time. If possible find someone who owns a car and plies your office route, and tag along with them. You have to be jovial, and make them like you, so that you wont be a burden, but rather good company. 3. If you are ever going to break out of your tight financial situation, and not be the type of person who lives from hand to mouth, you need to develop a culture of saving, yes! you need to save. No matter how little, you can make up your mind to save between 10 and 20 percent of your earnings. In the event that you lose your job, or an emergency comes up, you will have something to fall back on. 4. Pay your Tithe and Give cheerfully. The saying "Givers Never Lack" is one of the most accurate sayings ever. Try it and you will be surprised, it works like magic! 5. Dedicate a Fraction of your stipends to self development. Your chances of getting a better paying job will definitely increase if you have more skills, certifications, etc. 6. Check your Relationships!! Guys, is your girlfriend milking you dry? Girls, is your boyfriend feeding of you continously? The hard truth is that if you are going to move ahead, you need to cut off those that are constantly pulling you back. If they truly cared about you, they wont keep demanding, knowing fully well you don't earn that much. 7. Feel free to add up... 100 Likes 6 Shares |

topacs:The total Credit needed to graduate is 40 Credit Units. I also Registered the 8 courses which is equivalent to 20 units, this is the recommended credit load for first semester. If u want to drop some courses, it will mean u will have to do them later, maybe in a third semester, i cant really say which ones you should drop, but maybe u should choose the 2 unit courses. |

Just got info that the intake this year will only be about 52 persons, reason being that the DSSC officers are now more than the regular NDA officers, so they plan to bridge that gap. Before u all crucify me, am just reporting wat i was told by a senior officer. |

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nigerian Navy Direct Short Service Course Aspirants(dssc) 2015 by Datevilme: 11:18pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
I must say its really surprising that that some so called graduates here cannot interprete information as simple as this, and instead of looking for the right answers, they come here and mislead others, so u expect everybody to start travelling across the country to sign a form that you are not even sure you will use eventually However no need to over-flog this issue, if you feel the need to travel to your village to sign form...safe journey and goodluck. |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nigerian Navy Direct Short Service Course Aspirants(dssc) 2015 by Datevilme: 11:09pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
Jaidooo:For the benefit of doubt i actually read it again, and there's no statement specifying that the DPO must be from your state of origin. if you can present sufficient evidence that u are indeed from that LGA, and if need be your parents present their own supporting documents also, then any divisional police officer can sign that form for you. Obviously you are the one having trouble comprehending this simple information. Maybe you should also read it again |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nigerian Navy Direct Short Service Course Aspirants(dssc) 2015 by Datevilme: 11:03pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
softrise:Thats why you have a LGA certificate for him to verify with. As for criminal records, who is more likely to know your criminal record? the DPO in your LGA where u rarely visit, or the DPO in your place of residence? 2 Likes |

ajiyabod:It doesnt have to be someone from the military, read your form very well sir. |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nigerian Navy Direct Short Service Course Aspirants(dssc) 2015 by Datevilme: 12:41pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
Jaidooo:False o, divisional police officer simply means the divisional police officer within your residential address, it doesnt have to be from your state or LGA. if however you feel the need to travel to your village to see the DPO there...safe journey! |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nigerian Navy Direct Short Service Course Aspirants(dssc) 2015 by Datevilme: 12:38pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
softrise:Who says you have to go to your state to sign your LGA form, What happened to the laison office where you are or senior military officer from your state of origin. And who says the DPO has to be from your state Please read the form carefully before misleading people. Signing of these forms is a very simple process, dont make it harder than it is. 1 Like |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Bad Is It, Going To An Interview With Native Wear? by Datevilme: 4:28pm On Jun 12, 2015 |
I dont see anything wrong actually, its just that overtime it has become a norm and a standard to wear corporate for interviews. I think the key is being smart, if u wear a very sharp and decent looking native attire, u might even score positive points with your interviewers for being innovative and unique (thats for the open minded ones sha). Personally i have gone for an interview with one of the big financial companies wearing my sharp native, i got the job, but turned it down due to some circumstances. |
